Mighty Mouse just died...

I bought my iMac in March 2009, been working with Mighty Mouse on work before and ahd the usual scrolling problems, but they were always easely solved. Mine just died on me saturday night. I was working and selected "system preferences" and than "mouse" cause I wanted to adjust the tracking speed (depending on waht I'm doing sometimes I change this setting) and suddenly my dashboard start to appear and disapear in a non stop loop. To make it stop I unpluged the mouse from the USB port on the keyboard and the loop just stoped. I've plugged the mouse again but nothing happens, the mouse has just stoped working. I've picked another mouse to make the shut down and plugged the Mighty again. Restarted the computer, but the mouse dont work at all.
Now the question: I live in Portugal and I've bought my iMac from the Apple On-line store. I think this must be covered by some sort of warranty, does anyone knows how this things usually work???
Should I send my Mighty mouse to Apple? Anyone makes any idea????

The mouse is covered under the same 1-year warranty as the rest of your iMac (and the AppleCare extended warranty as well, if you have one). So if the mouse is indeed defective, Apple will replace it.
This forum is for older, pre-G3 hardware, so for assistance in determining what might be the problem, try asking in the appropriate iMac forum. Since you say that another mouse doesn't work, it doesn't seem likely that the problem is a defective mouse, so some troubleshooting would seem to be called for. You can also call Apple Tech Support, but if you don't have AppleCare on your iMac, you're past the 90-day free telephone support period so you'd have to pay for the call unless the problem does indeed turn out to be covered by the hardware warranty.
Regards.

  • Mighty Mouse just scrolls up

    Hi,
I just got a used (looks like new) bluetooth mighty mouse. The problem is the scroll ball only scrolls up. I set it to 360° and all other options. No effect.
Another thing is I can't configure the mouse as a bluetooth device. The mouse works (except the scrolling) an when I hit the bluetooth icon it is shown. But when I search for bluetooth devices oder even when I use the mouse configuration menu an click on "configure bluetooth mouse" it will not be found?
Does anyone know this funny stuff?

    You must clean it.

  • My mighty mouse has died(sort of)  and I have a system prefs conundrum

The mighty mouse when pressed now registers every click as a request for dashboard ( as I set it up in sys prefs to be centre button for dashboard) now the mouse is no longer working correctly and will only register centre clicks ...
How can I set the system prefs to change the mouse to one click only , without using the mouse?
At least then I can continue to use the mouse till I can get the shop/delivery next week for a new mouse (not a mighty muse tho !!).
    cheers
    esti

If you have a keyboard with a numeric pad, press the Option key 5 times. If you then hear a series of 5 clicks, you've activated the feature in +System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse+ that lets you use the numeric keypad instead of the mouse. The "5" is click, the other numeric keys will move the mouse.
I think this feature is OFF by default, though, so if you didn't activate it while the mouse was working, you can't turn it on now.
Otherwise, you need to get or borrow an actual mouse.

  • My wired mighty mouse just freezes especially after start-up

My keyboard works just fine. It's just my mouse that keeps freezing especially after my iMac starts-up after shutdown during the night.
Do you have any idea what's wrong?

Mine is doing the same thing. I am completely new to this and thought Apples were more trouble free. That is why I bought one in the first place. I found something about this issue on the support page and downloaded the latest OS and a patch fot the keyboard, to no avail. I have tried all the USB ports with no change. Is there a support number I can call with problems? I haven't found one on the web site. Good luck with your problem and please post back if you get it resolved as I would really like to know what fixes it.

  • Mighty Mouse buttons 3 & 4 not working

I am using the Mighty Mouse with a G4 PowerBook and the latest version of Tiger. At first the mouse worked fine. But a few days ago buttons 3 and 4 simply stopped working. I press them and nothing happens.
I checked the mouse preference pane and it was all there as it should be - it still showed the mouse with all 4 buttons properly allocated. Re-installing the software made no difference.
Am I missing something - or has my Mighty Mouse just malfunctioned?

Without using something like USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/) then I'm afraid you're stuck with whatever the Mouse preferences allow you to set buttons 3 & 4 to.

  • New Mighty Mouse have better scrollwheel?

The new iMacs ship with a new mighty mouse -- anyone know if there's changes to the scroll wheel so it won't get dirty as easily?

  • Mighty Mouse Right Click

    Hi,
I have a Mighty Wireless Mouse, and a Wireless Keyboard.
1.) If I would like to keep the track wheel button as the dashboard, can I create a secondary mouse button, or a right click? I know Ctrl-click will be a right click most of the time, but I have a game, where a right click is very useful, but Ctrl-click doesn't work.
2.) Is the main part of the Mighty Mouse just one button, or can I set a primary and secondary on the left and right half of the mouse.
    Any advise?
    ~Christoph

Right. I am using the track-wheel button as dashboard, which I would like to keep. The secondary button doesn't seem to work at first. I told system prefs to put the right button as the secondary button, but after a restart, it is now working. I don't know why I had to restart, but it is now working.
    Thanks for the help, though
Sorry none of you get the nice, green star

  • What is your Mighty Mouse set to do?!

    Hey guys.
My mighty mouse just arrived, its quite cool. i find the side squeezers very faffy to use though, quite an effort. The scroll ball is great, and it clciks in nicely.
I was wondering what you guys have your buttons set to do?
Right now I am set to:
Scroll Ball Click: Exposé - All windows
    Side Squeezers: Dashboard
    Scrolling speed: Maximum (Fast)
    See ya

    That was an exciting response!

  • Mighty Mouse Problems - right click and battery changing

So I am on my second Mighty Mouse after the first one completely stopped working one day. Took it in to Apple and they gave me a new one.
This new one generally works ok (although right click fails every few days) but when I change the batteries and turn it back on the computer doesn't find it. I have to plug in my old Logitch and discover the Mighty Mouse and pair it again using the Logitech to control the cursor.
Then this morning the Mighty Mouse left click button stopped working so I turned it off and on again and once again, the computer didnt recognise the mouse and I had to go through the whole discovering and pairing process again using my other mouse.
Any ideas - I have checked the Bluetooth preferences and cant seen anything that I should be checking - it says my mouse is paired, connected and discoverable.
Any ideas or are Mighty Mouses just an ordinary piece of hardware - my experience so far has been ordinary!
    By the way - I have a new (December 07) 24inch iMac and 10.5.2

    Hey,
I just talked to German Apple telephone support. They fixed the problem for me! With fresh  installs of 10.7.5 the problem is that two files are missing that are needed for the mouse. In my case I could get them from another computer I own that ran Lion and did have the files. To get to the files you need do this:
    Go to
    /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin
control-click that file and choose "show contents"
now in the finder window navigate to
    Contents/PlugIns/
In this folder should be two files named
    AppleBluetoothHIDMouse.plist
    and
    AppleHIDMouse.plist
If you don't find these files, you need to get them and put them in.

  • My USB Mighty Mouse broke

I was using the USB Mighty Mouse (A1152) at library as usual, everything is all good, then my MacBook has no power and sleep by itself, when I went back home my Mighty Mouse just suddenly not working, the red light on the bottom is not lighting up, have no response at all when I connect it to any USB port on my Mac, and also not working on any other Mac or PCs.
Is my USB mouse broke or the circuit board burned?
    Thanks for your help!

Lucky I fixed it by myself! The  most complex part to fix it is to open it, it has glued outside, but it didn't take a long time and inside is really simple, the only problem cause it doesn't work is one cable was loose, I just plug it in again and all fixed! What a Genius! :D

  • Mouse Problems on new DC G5? or just normal mighty mouse behaviour?

Hey guys i bought a Dual core 2.0 G5 about 6 days ago, and i love it to death, theres just one thing thats bothering me, the Mighty Mouse tends to be annoying at times.
Let me go into detail, sometimes i will be searching up documents or going on the internet and if the page hasnt loaded or even if it has, the mouse disapears and runs me to the bottom of the page and wont let me scroll up and then the mouse disapears and keeps disapearing if i try to move it in that window, unless i click on the desktop and go back to the window....
what causes this? I know its only a software gltich or the mouse itself but cant be anyhting major but still its annoying, i heard others are having some of the same problems, any solution?

Ok I had the same problem when I got mt new DCG5. The MM would think I was holding the button down all the time among other wierd things. It cleared up after I did my usual reinstall to clean all the apps off I don't want that come stock. Not sure if that helps but it did go away so it wasn't a bad mouse like I originallt thought.

  • Got through 2 Mighty Mouse's in just 4 months?

Am I the only one experiencing the tiny scroll ball packing up after just 8 or so weeks. I find that it starts to screw up scrolls. I can scroll up okay, but I have to really hammer it like mad to get it to scroll down a page. Not I've got through two of them and I have to manually drag down the page via screen as they just pack up too soon?
Any reason for these unreliable scroll ball issues or any way of fixing them?

It is difficult to create an item that can easily accommodate to the various levels of sweat and natural body oils that many different people produce, especially with such a tiny scrollball. A quick search of this forum will show others have similar issues. Many of us don't. I would suggest a regular cleaning schedule for your mouse, since you know that for some reason yours accumulates "something" quite rapidly and doesn't operate at maximum performance. Also a quick hand washing before computing may be in order to allow the mouse longer periods of time before cleaning. If mine appears the least bit sluggish I turn it upside ddown on my bluejeans and run it around on the scrollball a bit.

  • I just purchased a used wireless Mighty Mouse. Do I need to have Blue Tooth installed on my machine to use it?

    Hey
So I just purchased a used wireless Mighty Mouse at a Goodwill very inexpensively on the 50/50 chance it would work. Right out of the gate I figured I might need to have Blue Tooth installed on my machine to use it, is this the case?
I have a Mac Pro Tower running 10.6.7, but I didn't opt for the Blue Tooth a few years ago when I purchased it. I knew I should've!
    Thanks.

Well I purchased the Mac Pro in 2009 I believe. It could've been late 2008, but I can't quite remember. When I ordered it from the Apple store online I customized it. I had the amount of Ram I wanted put into it, and had two hard drives installed. While doing all of my customizations I could've opted to have the Blue Tooth card installed into the computer but for some reason I didn't see myself using it. I did get the generic wired mouse that came with the computer.

  • My wireless Mighty Mouse is not working correctly

I purchased a mighty mouse (wireless) for my powerbook G4, and it doesnt work anymore, i mean it works to use as a cursour but the scroll doesnt work and most of the time the right click button doesnt work, it used to work fine then it just slowly died down to where it isnt able to be used anymore, for an APPLE tech my order number is: W21988486, if you can let me know what to do if i can request an exchange for a working mouse or should i visit the local Apple store? thanks -Daniel ([email protected])

It looks like most of the problems seem to be with OSX 10.4+ as mine with 10.3.9 works fine. However, at one time I had the mouse pointer move, but the left click not working. All it took was two new batteries... all the functions (10.3.9 lets me have) came back. Scroll, left and right clicks.
I did test the batteries with a meter that were removed and they had 1.2 volt left in them of the 1.6+ that a new one has. So, my guess is that this little mouse is sensitive to a little power drop, less then I would of guessed.

  • Mighty Mouse sudden scroll issues on Mavericks

My bluetooth Mighy Mouse (a little ancient, but still works well for me) was functioning perfectly till suddenly the vertical scrolling increased speed rapidly, followed shortly by the horizontal scrolling failing completely. This all happened after an episode of letting my battery die to the point of power down, me plugging in the Mac, giving it a few minutes to boot only to find everything very slow, then doing a restart. Upon start up, my Mac returned to being its normal speedy self, but this Mighty Mouse issue occured.
The settings in preferences -> mouse are ''lowest scroll speed'' and "vertical and horizontal" scrolling
I have reset the SMC and PRAM. This did nothing.
    Any suggestions???

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know of that preference item.
But changing this did not help, in fact it seems to coincide with the System Preferences>Mouse>Scrolling (change one, and the other changes too). And changing this scrolling setting anywhere from low to high doesn't seem to change my current scrolling speed. It is unregulated.
I should also mention that I have two bluetooth Mighty Mice and one corded Mighty Mouse. All of these have super-fast vertical scrolling and NO horizontal scrolling.
Also, when resetting the PRAM, it is an obvious restart. When resetting SMC, is there any visible/audible cues that the reset has occured? I just want to rule these two possible solutions out.
