Mighty mouse: left-handed

hi,
i want to use my mouse as a left handed mouse.
i configured the secondary button to ben on the left, just worked.
but i notice when i move the mouse up, down, left or right it moves diagonally.
i understand this is because right handed people hold the mouse like this: \ but i hold the mouse like this /, so it moves diagonally.
is there any way to change this?
i could not find anything in preferences, do i need to search better or maybe i can change it by setting one of those defaults write com.apple.whatever by terminal?

I am ambidextrous but I hold the mouse "vertically, like this | " not on a slant, whichever hand I use.
If I do tilt it slightly, I do not see any angle movement - perhaps I automatically compensate for it??
You are asking for some kind of anti-skew option. You might search for some 3rd party software to do it. AFAIK, there is no standard built-in setting for what you are looking for.

  • Getting the mouse left-handed

    Hello Folks!
Beccouse I am lefthanded I would like to "mirror" my mousecursor. I'm using GNOME 2.24 and gdm as login manager.
I have downloaded once a left-handed mouse-theme from Gnomelook. But this proved to be very inconsistend. Also I could not find a way to get another mouse-theme working on gdm.
    Any ideas or howtos???

I used a little program called xcur2png to convert a xcursor theme to pngs and a conf file.. then flip horizontally each png with imagemagick, mirror the focus coordinate in the conf file, and pack everything with xcursorgen...
I didn't find xcur2png in aur though, so here's the PKGBUILD if you need it ...

  • Left-handed mouse pointer in OS 9?

My Dad recently lost use of his right arm (he is right-handed) and so he now has to mouse left-handed. He is using OS 9 and wants to know if there is a way to change the mouse arrow (pointer) so that it is angled to the right (for a left handed person) instead of to the left (as most right-handed people like)?
Does anyone know of a way to do this in OS 9 and/or in OS X? He actually has two computers one running each OS.
    Thanks!

Great going Niel... been searching for hours!
For OSX this plus Application Enhancer +may work+...

  • Mighty Mouse Problems - right click and battery changing

So I am on my second Mighty Mouse after the first one completely stopped working one day. Took it in to Apple and they gave me a new one.
This new one generally works ok (although right click fails every few days) but when I change the batteries and turn it back on the computer doesn't find it. I have to plug in my old Logitch and discover the Mighty Mouse and pair it again using the Logitech to control the cursor.
Then this morning the Mighty Mouse left click button stopped working so I turned it off and on again and once again, the computer didnt recognise the mouse and I had to go through the whole discovering and pairing process again using my other mouse.
Any ideas - I have checked the Bluetooth preferences and cant seen anything that I should be checking - it says my mouse is paired, connected and discoverable.
Any ideas or are Mighty Mouses just an ordinary piece of hardware - my experience so far has been ordinary!
    By the way - I have a new (December 07) 24inch iMac and 10.5.2

    Hey,
I just talked to German Apple telephone support. They fixed the problem for me! With fresh  installs of 10.7.5 the problem is that two files are missing that are needed for the mouse. In my case I could get them from another computer I own that ran Lion and did have the files. To get to the files you need do this:
    Go to
    /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin
control-click that file and choose "show contents"
now in the finder window navigate to
    Contents/PlugIns/
In this folder should be two files named
    AppleBluetoothHIDMouse.plist
    and
    AppleHIDMouse.plist
If you don't find these files, you need to get them and put them in.

  • Mouse pointer is frozen at left hand corner

    Hi
My USB mouse pointer is frozen at the left hand corner. I saw posts from users who have had same issue but did not find any answers.
    I have tried the following.
    1. Using different USB ports to connect the mouse
    2. resetting PRAM
    3. resetting SMC (I think thats what it is called)
    4. Cleaning the mouse
    5. Doing a hardboot
    None of this has helped.
The mouse seems to work (e.g. I can click and it opens up the menu or if the screen saver has started, clicking the mouse stops it etc.
Other info - I always shutdown my machine. I guess this is legacy of Windows days
I dont want to reinstall the OS - that would also mean I have to update all the required OS updates post 2008 when I got the iMac
Any one has a solution for this ?
    Thanks
    Tapan

The mouse is bad, you can replace it with just about any Generic +(Logitec, Kensington, microsoft)+, a Mighty Mouse, a Magic Magic or the new Track Pad from Apple with your computer.

  • Irratic magic mouse behavior: Left handed user

    Hello,
I have a magic mouse that I use on the left-hand side of my MacBook Pro and experience irratic mouse behavior and unexpected jumpiness - i.e. while working on a PowerPoint presentation, the screen jump to a different slide even when I'm not touching the mouse. The screen often jumps on its own even if I'm not typing or using the magic mouse.  I've tried several fixes, including:
Setting up my preferences to Ignore trackpad when mouse is present
Setting up my preferences to Scrolling without intertia
Tryinf a couple of apps (Mountain Tweeks and MagicPrefs)
I'm wondering if my continued issues have to do with the fact that I'm using the mouse on the same side that I plug in my computer power cord and speakers.
I've search extensively for a solution to this issue and have been unable to solve it. Any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi shelleyfromely,
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
If the "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" option is not enabled in the Bluetooth System Preferences, the Bluetooth icon will not display in the menu bar.  Enable this option in System Preferences, then check the status of the Bluetooth icon in the upper right menu bar. If the Bluetooth icon does not appear in the menu bar, restart your computer.
Slide the On/Off switch on the bottom of your mouse to turn it on. Note: If the battery compartment cover is not installed properly the On/Off switch may not function correctly or may be difficult to operate. Remove the battery compartment cover and carefully reinstall it.
When your mouse is on and paired, and the batteries are charged, the indicator light glows steadily.
    Check preferences
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences, then choose Bluetooth from the View menu. The Bluetooth preferences pane will list the Bluetooth devices paired with the computer, the status of the devices (paired or connected), and whether Bluetooth power is on or not.
Click the gear icon and choose "Connect" to connect a device that is powered on.
Keyboard or mouse intermittently stops responding
    Click the mouse
Click the mouse once to reconnect it with your Mac. It may take a moment for the mouse to respond.
Check the battery level of the mouse. Choose System Preferences from the Apple (), then choose Mousefrom the View menu. The battery level indicator is in the lower-left corner. Replace the batteries if they are low.
    Check for signal interference
Wireless networks that operate on 2.4GHz may cause interference.
Move cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other 2.4GHz electrical devices away from the Mac if you suspect interference.
Keep wireless devices within 10 meters (33 feet) of the Mac.
Avoid putting metal objects between the device and the Mac.
Mouse does not track as expected (jittery, jumpy, slow, fast).
The Apple Wireless Mouse can be used on most smooth surfaces, however if tracking issues occur try these options:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
    - Judy

  • Expand/Collapse a tree using a Left Handed Mouse not working

I have a couple of forms that use a tree item. If I set my mouse to be left handed I can no longer select a node on the tree or expand and collapse the nodes.
I'm using Oracle JInitiator: Version 1.3.1.17 and Forms [32 Bit] Version 9.0.4.0.19 (Production).
    Is Oracle Forms Leftist? :)
    Richard

Hi, stumbled on this today...not a real techie fix but may be useful in your projects...
Left handed mouse setup as per MS Windows Mouse settings only allowed switching of primary and secondary mouse button function...(XP Pro).
Happened upon an NT Workstation and attempted to setup mouse as above, however on this workstation there was an MS Intellimouse set of software (5.2/4.1) in the mouse setup.
I switched the buttons to make it left handed...
Accessed our application and set about navigating the left hand tree, it worked normally single clicking on each node...prior to this the left tree was awkard for left hand mousers.
Installed these drivers on XP machine and same results...left hand tree works fine..
sorry if this low tech but I am a front end user rather than a coder.
    Cheers..........Nige

  • System beep every time I mouse to the lower left hand screen corner

Can anyone help me with this?
Every time I mouse to the lower left hand corner of the screen, I get a system beep.
I am using a Mac Book Pro with a 24 inch Cinema Display attached.
I do not use Expose or Spaces, I have no hot corners set.
I have no hot corners set for the screen saver.
    Any suggestions?

Sounds like the beep I get when I go to the upper right corner, for which I've set the "All windows" in expose. Try this: go to System Prefs >expose&spaces, and set your lower left corner for all windows. Then close system prefs, and throw your mouse into the lower left corner to activate expose. Then go back to system prefs and set that corner for nothing (just the dash). Now try it and see if that beep still happens.

  • Mouse stuck in upper left hand corner...

Not sure if this is where I should be posting this, but I couldn't find a more appropriate heading. I have a couple year old iMac running OS X 10.2.8. Just yesterday I was surfing the web and all of a sudden my mouse pointer got stuck in the upper left hand corner of the screen, and I haven't been able to move it since. I have tried new known good mice and a new keyboard...neither had any effect. I also tried clearing the PRAM and running disk utilities from my install disk. The pointer is still stuck and I'm not sure what else to try?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance

    pegasusroscoe,
Are you able to open the Trash, and view it's contents?
If so, are the items individual files, or are there system folders there?
I don't know if it will do any good, but are you able to run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

  • Setting up Left Handed Mouse option

I am only able to use the left hand and I am running both Mac OS and Vista VM Ware on my Macbook Air. I am using a wireless Kensington mouse because I needed two buttons to operate Vista.
Being left handed I configure the Apple System Preference panel so that:-
    - the trackpad would NOT be disabled when I use the mouse
    - the main button on the mouse was the right button (since I cannot use my right hand).
Mouse works fine but since I have selected these options the trackpad mouse is simply disabled! But if I reset the mouse option to left button as main button, then both mouse and trackpad bar work.
THIS IS A BUG that is in the way of disabled people! Can you please provide a fix which allows me to use a mouse for left handed, WITHOUT at the same time disabling the trackpad bar/mouse?

  • Right hand and left hand click without mouse

Hi, i'm novice in using mac. I'm not to sure how to use right hand or left hand click without using mouse. For instance, how do i click download when i gonna download mp3 files? Pls help

Did you mean how to do a normal click and a right-click?
For normal click, you can either use the big button below the trackpad or you can tab the trackpad (Note that tabbing is disabled by default, you can enable it from System Preferences>Mouse&Keyboard).
To right click, tab trackpad with 2 fingers.
    Hope this helps

  • Cursor/Mouse is stuck in top left hand corner by apple icon HELP

My cursor is stuck in the upper left hand corner and will not budge. I've restarted from the OS disk, looked at system profiler - usb profile and the mouse appears. This means it should be software related, not hardware related. I've restarted the cpu multiple times logging in under differnt users and have replaced the mouse & keyboard it's attached too with backups. NOTHING WORKS! My mouse is stuck in the top left hand corner barely touching the apple icon. When I click the mouse, the drop down menu appears so it is communicating with the cpu. However it just will not move/track anywhere! I'm an almost 20 yr mac user having survived a few 'sad mac' faces in the Mac Classic, Performa, & 8100 days, but have never run across something like this before.
HELP PLEASE!!! Would love to know a fix for this, or even what has caused it. In lieu of that I suppose I'd be okay with re-installing my system software as all programs & sensative info is on a seperate HD.
FYI I can't reinstall by rebooting via OS disc because the mouse doesn't work. Any help here?
FYI I do not have (not sure what it's called exactly) the function/preference turned on which allows me to move the cursor with the keyboard & can't get it turned on now as I can't navigate the system preferences windows in a functional manner.
    Thanks & PLEASE HELP,
    Phillip

    Phillip,
I had this problem recently with a 3-year old Mac Pro intel, which was eventually replaced by Apple due to myriad other problems. When the frozen mouse happened, there was nothing I could do. Very frustrating to have the screen boot and the cursor is up there stuck, on the top left corner of the screen. Frozen. I called support several times. They were amazed. At one point they had me buy a cheap USB mouse (I was using a wireless mouse from Logitech and they thought there might be some kind of conflict). The USB mouse didn't work, either. Neither did an Apple mouse when I went out to buy one.
I ended up driving 70 miles to take the Mac to an Apple Store. I think they reinstalled the (Leopard) system in some secret way, because when the mouse was frozen so was everything else and I couldn't open the disk drive to put the OSX disk in there.
Why I'm here right now is that the same thing happened today with my NEW 3-month-old REPLACEMENT MAC PRO using its brand new wireless mouse, and I was hoping to find some insight. Again, a frozen cursor after the boot. Same top-left corner of the screen. Unlike you, when I click the mouse nothing happens -- no drop down.
Luckily, when I hard-rebooted by holding the button in, the mouse cursor came back. This time. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off. Been there done that before. Anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Changing my mouse setting to left handed

I've researched how to change my mouse setting to left handed but my system preferences screen is not the same as what the examples are showing me. There is no option to change from right to left handed. Can anyone help me in my situation? I have OS X 10.9.4, if that helps.

It's not as obvious as it once was if you have an Apple Magic Mouse. Under OSX 10.9, go to System Preferences > Mouse and select the Point & Click tab:
Under the "Secondary Click" label (outlined above) is smaller text that activates a pull-down giving you the choice of which side of the mouse executes the secondary click. The primary click will switch accordingly.
