Mighty Mouse No Scroll Down

I've tried playing with this problem using the Mouse Preferences, every combination of options I can find, but my Mighty Mouse now (suddenly) refuses to scroll DOWN. It scrolls UP but now DOWN. It even scrolls side to side if I select that option, but NO down. Ummm?
Anyone else been having this same problem.

*Hi cloudmountain, Welcome back* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Most likely it just needs cleaning. Lint free cloth, slightly damp w water or alcohol. Unplug and vigorously and firmly roll the scroll ball around. Blowing it with canned air can help too.
Search the forums on "clean mouse" or "scroll." There is an Apple Support page as well.
Good Luck, JP

  • August 08 imac. Mighty Mouse wont scroll down.

Hey, I have August 2008 iMac and since about Febuary the mighty mouse will not scroll down. I havent been using it much (Had major pc problems... Been working on my pc alot.) and am moving it to somewhere where it will get used more.
How can I get the wheel to scroll down again?
I have tried unplugging it and wiping it on my shirt, and rolling the scroll ball on a sheet of paper upside down. But those didnt fix the problem.

The mouse ball is dirty, you need to use a damp towel and vigorously rub the mouse's ball for at least 30 seconds. Another technique is getting a clean sheet of paper, placing it on a flat surface, turning over the mouse and vigorously rolling the ball on the paper.
If that doesn't fix it (it should!) then it is covered by your original warranty so contact Apple or take it to an Apple Store for replacement.

  • Mighty Mouse will scroll down but not up.

All of a sudden my mighty mouse won't scroll up. It will scroll down, left and right but not up. The mighty mouse is about 6 months old and has worked fine on my old Dual 1GHz G4 MDD.

your mighty mouse should have a 1yr warranty on it, take it to an apple store and let them know what the problem is.
as I have never used a mighty mouse I cant offer advice, other than perhaps its dirty inside and maybe you could clean it...

  • Wired Mighty Mouse cannot scroll down.

I have had my wired mighty mouse since 2007. Every once in a while the scroll would stop working for a second but once i rolled it around, it would start scrolling again. Now my mouse has not been able to scroll down all day. I have read online that if you roll the scroller around on paper, it will clean the roller and it should start working again. I tried this many times and my mouse is still not functioning. Is there a way to fix this or should i just purchase a new one?

You need to open & clean. Watch this video.

  • Mighty Mouse not scrolling down

Hello. I have a problem with my mighty mouse. Suddenly it will no longer scroll downwards with the small ball when view web pages/itunes etc., although it will still scroll up. Does this have anything to do with the latest security update that i recently installed? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem and it turned out that the moving parts inside were just dirty.
I used a slightly damp face cloth and pushed hard against the ball and rolled it around for a few seconds.
This cleaned the bit of dust or whatever was interfering, and it has worked fine since.
I read elsewhere to use rubbing alcolhol instead of water -- but I used a very damp cloth and that did the trick.
    Good luck!

  • Mighty Mouse only scrolls down and to side

It was working fine, then I was told to reboot after some webobjects update or something like that. Now it won't scroll up. It's clicking and not gummed up, and it was working seconds before the reboot. Anyone run into anything similar? I dunno if I have a mouse driver cdrom for it, as I got it for Xmas and tossed all packaging and it worked right off the bat in my iBook so... any suggestions? I can hunt down the packaging maybe, or if they have drivers online, maybe the driver just got pooched a little. If anything, this will help the next person who has this problem when I do find a solution.

I just figured it out. There was some gunk inside there. It's weird because it was working before the update reboot. Must have just been too much and a coincidence. I found the gunk when I accidentally pushed down while scrolling up and it forced some of it out. It's work now. That's good info to remember in the future since I still can't find my driver CD. Thanks!

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse not scrolling down?!

I have tried all tricks mentioned in previous posts, cleaning etc. - but NOTHING is helping!
Scroll ball looks and feels clean and scrolling up works like a dream.
This is driving me completely crazy - and putting me off buying Apple products. Someone, please, do you have any other tips or is a trip to the shop (which is 45min drive away) the only option?
    Help!

I was about to give up because I've already tried rubbing the scroll ball against a clean T-shirt and other things.
I've heard some recommendations to use a residue-free solvent to de-gum the scroll ball, but I didn't have any rubbing alcohol. My last ditch effort was to use Zippo lighter fluid - the kind for their wick lighters. I don't smoke, but I use the lighters for camping, and the fluid is handy as an acceptable substitute for solvent based cleaning fluids. They have a newer "synthetic formula" that has a considerably milder odor with almost no smell once it dries. It also doesn't irritate the skin like the previous formula would if a lighter leaked. I believe this is similar to a lot of magnetic head cleaning products out there; many are just petroleum-based solvents. Of course I was very careful (I disavow anyone who tries this and sets their house on fire). I placed a little bit on a napkin and rubbed gently. This was done far away from any source of fire and this type of fluid doesn't have heavy vapors that linger like gasoline fumes.
I tested it first on a less visible section of the mouse, and it didn't mar the finish; I didn't expect it would do anything to plastic, but I wanted to be sure first.

  • Mighty Mouse wont scroll?!?

Hey guys... for some reason my Mighty Mouse quit scrolling down today. It will still scroll up but not down. I can't feel anything when I scroll down that makes it seem like its catching something, so I am cluecless. Any ideas?!

    Use this article first: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417
I have to clean mine a couple of times a month, when the above cleaning method doesn't work I resort to more drastic measures. I use a small amount of Rubbing Alcohol on a clean old t-shirt to clean the ball and then blow it out. I have done this many times in the last year, works well with no ill affects to the mouse.

  • How can you set a wired mouse to scroll down?

My mouse is set to scroll horizontaly and vertically but it will only scroll up on a page, not down.  Is there any way I could fix this so my mouse can scroll down as well?

A mouse that will scroll down but not up typically has a mouse ball with junk in it.
To clean, turn upside-down and roll around on a rough-ish piece of clean white paper such as copy paper.

  • Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling

I have an Intel iMac with Tiger. Recently the scroll ball on my Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling. Nothing happens at all when I move it. I went to the preferences to see if a setting was wrong. Most of the mouse options have the word "Expose" (I can't figure out how to do the accent mark) so I looked that up. It seems Expose is the reason the windows sometimes fly apart for no known reason. I wish I could turn that off, I hate it. Anyway, I tried different mouse options and the scrolling hasn't come back.
    Thanks for any help offered.

I will try cleaning the scroll ball like that.
I want to be able to scroll, but I don't want the windows to suddenly jump apart. I don't even know what button makes that happen. I didn't know Exposé (got the accent, thanks) existed until today. Can you tell me exactly what setting gets rid of Exposé but not scrolling?

  • Safari won't let me left click mouse and scroll down page

Safari won't let me left click on the mouse and scroll down the page, which I can do in Internet Explorer. That means I have to manually click on the scroll bar on the right side of the website.

Hopefully it's a cache issue not your Magic Mouse.
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
This seems to be a "feature" of Safari
    No.. it's not.

  • Mighty Mouse sudden scroll issues on Mavericks

My bluetooth Mighy Mouse (a little ancient, but still works well for me) was functioning perfectly till suddenly the vertical scrolling increased speed rapidly, followed shortly by the horizontal scrolling failing completely. This all happened after an episode of letting my battery die to the point of power down, me plugging in the Mac, giving it a few minutes to boot only to find everything very slow, then doing a restart. Upon start up, my Mac returned to being its normal speedy self, but this Mighty Mouse issue occured.
The settings in preferences -> mouse are ''lowest scroll speed'' and "vertical and horizontal" scrolling
I have reset the SMC and PRAM. This did nothing.
    Any suggestions???

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know of that preference item.
But changing this did not help, in fact it seems to coincide with the System Preferences>Mouse>Scrolling (change one, and the other changes too). And changing this scrolling setting anywhere from low to high doesn't seem to change my current scrolling speed. It is unregulated.
I should also mention that I have two bluetooth Mighty Mice and one corded Mighty Mouse. All of these have super-fast vertical scrolling and NO horizontal scrolling.
Also, when resetting the PRAM, it is an obvious restart. When resetting SMC, is there any visible/audible cues that the reset has occured? I just want to rule these two possible solutions out.

  • Wired Mighty Mouse lacks Scrolling Options

    Hello,
Is there a way to enable zoom-scrolling on a wired Mighty Mouse?
I was reading Mac Help on mouse settings and noticed a feature that I've never noticed before: Scrolling Options. Help claims that this feature allows to customize the scroll-ball behaviour, including 360 degree scrolling and zoom-scrolling. Alas, I failed to find this feature in my Keyboard & Mouse pane.
I searched on Google, and it seems that this feature was introduced in the new driver that ships on a CD with the new wireless Mighty Mouse. Look here: http://tinyurl.com/pyx7s.
Will this new driver work with the wired Mighty Mouse? if yes, where can I get this driver?
    —barmalutka
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The Zoom function appears to be giving the wireless MM access to the Universal Access System Preference "Zoom" feature.
The MM already has 360° scrolling. I sense that the pulldown menu you see in the System Preference Pane for the new wireless MM probably gives you control to limiting the direction of the scrolling to left-right, or up-down and possibly diagonally.
Who knows, if we are lucky the new MM System Preferences may appear in a future OS X update.
    Until then these 3rd party mouse System Prefs are available;
