Mighty Mouse: Problems with it everyday!

Can someone please advise me on what to do with my new mighty mouse? I've had it for a couple of months now, and everyday it is affected by at least one of three functional glitches. These are:
1. The click, scroll and side bars stop functioning (the movement sensor still functions)
2. The index finger scroll pimple stop functioning in the up direction only (but not the down).
3. The movement sensor becomes slow and jittery.
I paid good money for this state of the art bluetooth device, and I expected more. I used a wireless mouse designed for a windows OS last year at it never had problems like this. (And it cost less than half the price!)
I know if I take it back to the shop they will just take it away and test it and I'll be without a mouse for a few weeks, so what should I do? Is it faulty? Is this normal?

This is not normal operation. You should have it checked out. This will help with the scroll ball not functioning in one direction.

  • Wired Mighty Mouse problems with Mavericks.

Alright, so today I was gifted a wired Apple mighty mouse for Christmas and immediately after I started to use it, the cursor started to 'rubber band' (snapping back to previous positions). I've searched around and tried numerous supposed fixes that include resetting the Hot Corners, rebooting into safe mode and cleaning the mouse itself with no success. I recently updated to Mavericks if that's any help. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi ~Bee Thanks for your advice I do believe it its fine now !
Looks like I need a new Mouse mat, It's strange how the mat affected the mouse I haven't had any problems in the past ? I have also cleaned the mat and still have the same problem if I continue to use it. Could you recommend a mat to buy by any chance ?
Thanks also to you Dave, Looks like we got there in the end !

  • Apple Mighty Mouse problems with OS Leopard

Ever since I upgrade to Leopard a fortnight ago, I've had problems with my Apple wireless mouse (Mighty Mouse, which I bought 2 months ago). When my computer wakes up from sleep, my mouse stops working. I would then go to System Preference - Bluetooth Preferences, but the computer would get stuck; I would have to Force Quit out of System Preferences. Then, when I shut down the computer, it would go through the normal shutdown process but get stuck at the blank screen with the spinning gear icon; it would stay there for more than 10 minutes (which is the longest I waited before doing a hard shutdown). I have re-paired the mouse with my computer numerous times, recalibrated the machine with the assistance of the Apple helpdesk tech support, but still my mouse would not work when my Macbook Pro wakes up from sleep. Even the tech-support person at apple did not know why my computer gets stuck when I try to shut down. The annoying thing is that it only happens when my computer wakes up from sleep; otherwise, it works fine. My mouse worked perfectly when I had OS 10.4. Hopefully it is bluetooth bug that apple will fix with a new 10.5 update. Can anybody advise?

Same issues for me with my iMac.
I migrated from Windows to MacBook (about 14 months ago).
I was so pleased with Apple, and decided to ditch my PC for an iMac about three months ago.
Sadly Leopard has not proved to be a bug free stable OS for me, and I am sorely disappointed.
The Mighty Mouse BT issue is incredibly annoying for me.
Interestingly, sometimes when I do manage a restart, and it freezes, my menu bar indicates that my internet connection is by Airport (a known bug as well, I think?). My iMac connects via Ethernet, and Airport is switched off. So is there a link? Co-incidence?
Bottom line: I am very disappointed with these frustrating bugs, and Apple appears not to be listening.
My MacBook also some sporadic issues: when I wake it from sleep, sometimes the svreen goes blank, and unresponsive, and requires a restart. I use a trackpad.
Leopard has some bad bugs, and I feel very letdown by Apple.

  • Mighty Mouse problem with duo core intel mac mini & 26" LCD/TV display

I have an Olevia 26" LCD/TV display connected to my Intel Duo core mac mini and I have been using a Mighty Mouse with it from the start but all of a sudden the mouse pointer will not come out of the upper right corner. It moves out a little and then pops back into the corner.
I connected the Mighty Mouse to my g4 PowerBook and it tracks and scrolls fine. I've also cleaned it and tried it on a solid, dark service while connected to the mac mini and those things don't help either.
Any suggestions anyone. I've been using the Mighty Mouse for months and I love especially the ability to scroll horizonitally as I use Final Cut Pro and that features is GREAT in the timeline window.
I can't seem to find anything here in the discussions specifcally with this issue so any guidance would be appreciated!

    hi there--
if all is fine on the install disk, run disk repair http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672. if not, i would reset the open firmware. do this by holding apple-option-o-f on keyboard while you start up and you get a screen that says "welcome to open firmware". type in following commands, without quotations-- "reset-nvram" (hit return) and "reset-all" (hit return). second command restarts the computer. good luck.[:)]

  • Will the wired Apple Mighty Mouse work with Windows Vista SP1?

The above question. Will I have to download any extra drivers? Is the MM really that bad? Thanks.

*" Will the wired Apple Mighty Mouse work with Windows Vista SP1?"*
    Officially...No: http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/specs.html
In reality... probably. Why would you want it anyway? There are many many better mice out there.

  • Apple Mighty Mouse problem

I bought a Apple Mighty Mouse for my MacBook and now when I'm moving the cursor it instantly appears in another position that has nothing to do with the positioning I'm moving it. Do you know why this happens? Can you help me?

If its the wireless Mighty Mouse, I had problems with tracking, too.
(Also right button click, but that's a whole 'nuther story)
Some put it down to possible RF interference from other devices causing the problem, while my local Genius put it (and the click issue) down to a botched MM. In the end I gave up and went to a Macally BTMouse Jr. No problems at all.

  • Keyboard & Mighty Mouse problems

    Hi all,
I am using the new style keyboard with my MBP and for some reason I keep losing the bluetooth connection & the message " keyboard connection lost " the keyboard is next to my MBP so I cannot understand why I am getting this message ? Also when I receive this message my Mighty Mouse seems to move across the screen very slow ?
If anyone has a clue why this is happening and could give me some help in solving this problem I would be very great full.
    Thanks Clinton

Edit: You may want to ignore the below. I just realized it was pertaining to the Mac Pro, and not the MBP...
Try reading through this thread and see if it helps:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=633522&tstart=0
In a nutshell, it could be a Bluetooth-related wiring problem. Some people have gone and fixed the problem by opening up their machines and following the instructions here:
    http://www.thelocale.org/files/howtos/mac-pro-bluetooth-howto.pdf
Since tampering with the innards of your computer will probably void your warranty, I would suggest that you NOT do this yourself unless you have to. If you're still under warranty, perhaps you could go to an Apple Store to get it looked at, showing them the above to sort of nudge them in the right direction...

  • Mighty Mouse Problems

    Greetings all - I have a new iMac 2.4, 24 inch running OSX 10.5.1.
Have been having problems with my cordless Mighty Mouse - basically the right click function stops working. It just suddenly doesnt work anymore (ie it just does the same as left click)
I have tried changing the batteries, reselecting the secondary button option in System Preferences, restarting the computer and nothing fixes it - it just starts working again when it wants to.
Now (since yesterday) it suddenly starts moving really slowly - Ill move the mouse at normal speed but the cursor moves slowly and jittery across the screen. Again, this just fixes itself when it wants too.
Any ideas - I love the form of the Mighty Mouse but its performance so far has left a lot to be desired - might be time to bring out the trusty old Logitech again.

check out threads/forums under "mighty mouse freezes". You'll find some dialogue, perhaps ways to solve there....

  • Mighty mouse compatibility with Beige G3

    Hello,
I have an interesting problem with trying to connect a mighty mouse to my beige G3. When I depress the mighty mouse button, the computer thinks it is a control-click rather than just a normal click. This seems to happen about 80% of the time if I can recall correctly. (a control-click brings up a submenu of other choices rather than the regular single click.)
I am suspecting the problem is because I am running OS 10.1.5. The mighty mouse is suppose to only be compatible with OS 10.2 and later. But generally, it seems to work fine on my OS 10.1.5 system - except for this control-click problem.
Would anyone know of any solutions to such a problem?
Should I try "USB overdrive" perhaps?
    http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/News.html
My other solution is to just use another USB mouse. My other USB mouse (from my blue and white G3) works fine on the beige G3. The problem is only with the mighty mouse.
    Thank you for any suggestions,

The final problem has now been solved. I am a little embarrassed about this because I now realize I had no clue how to operate the mighty mouse. All the problems listed above I have now discovered were due to my own operator error. Oops. I did not know the mighty mouse had a left and a right button! Its so elegant that you cannot see this. I thought that when you click down on a mighty mouse, it was always a regular click. What I discovered today was that the mighty mouse can sense if you click on its right side or its left side. What a smart mouse! It can distinguish between pressure on its left versus its right. If you click on the right side of a mighty mouse, that signals a right click. I wasn't aware the mighty mouse was so sophisticated. No wonder the submenus (that traditionally pop up when you control-click) kept appearing so often when I clicked the mouse - I must have been right clicking without being aware of it.
Problem solved. I suppose I should have read the instructions before I plugged in the mighty mouse.
    PS
I tried the free 30 day trial of USB overdrive [1]. Nice program. It wasn't necessary to operate the mighty mouse on my beige G3 but it sure is useful - especially for customizing the mouse buttons. Great program.
There is a beta version of USB overdrive that works for OS 10.1.5. Works very well.

  • Odd mighty mouse problem...applecare replacement?

This morning my mighty mouse(cable) was having a scrolling issue most likely caused by gunk-buildup. I gave it a cleaning, the way I usually do, although I used a different cloth(which might have NOT been lint free) after this cleaning, the scroll ball felt odd against my middle finger, than it normally does, kinda like it was 'lower'.
Because of this, it won't scroll properly AT ALL, if I attempt to scroll up or down it sorta feels like it 'skips a beat' and will not scroll down or up a page more than a few centimeters. I gave it several additional cleanings using my 'usual' cloth this time, but it sorta feels like the ball is dislodged or something. Shortly after, I found that whenever I attempted to close/open a file/window, the mouse would not respond at all and any additional clicks within my browser opened that secondary scroll-4-point arrow thing, it was completely unusable, and would not let me open/close/initiate ANYTHING afterwards.
I had to use my wacom in order to do anything, though was relieved it wasn't a problem with my mac since the pen stylus/wacom mouse still worked fine. I was able to get into my mouse settings, and oddly enough disabling the 2 side grey buttons, fixes most of the problem, but i am still unable to scroll via the scroll wheel and while these 2 buttons are disabled, it won't 'right-click' at all.
Did I really mess up the mouse that bad by using a different, probably non-lint free cloth? and if so does apple care cover the replacement of a mouse?

AppleCare replaced my Mighty Mouse. I took it to an Apple Store. The guy at the Genuis Bar took it to the back room to attempt a cleaning. I was not asked if I tried to clean it.
Unless your "non-lint free cloth" was wet toilet paper or paper napkin, I don't think it would cause this problem.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse Problems - NO RIGHT CLICK.

i tried dozens of times... i can't use the right click. it acts as a primary button even though i set it to secondary...
is there another way of setting it so that it is secondary that i didn't do so that it would cause such a phenomenon?
    I NEED HELP. please.

    Alex,
Do a search of this forum for "mighty mouse right button" or "mighty mouse secondary button." There are a number of problems it may be. The first thing to be sure is that you aren't touching the left button at all while you try to right click. The MM works via sensing whether a finger is on the right or left side of the mouse, and if you are touching the left button even slightly it will register as a primary click rather than a secondary.
Second, there are also issues that have been reported with the BT MM losing the ability to sense that primary / secondary difference after some period of time. Replacing the mouse (sometimes needing to go through a few replacements) does seem to eventually fix that.
If it doesn't seem to be an issue with contact on the sensor, I'd suggest returning the mouse and requesting a new one.

  • Odd Wireless Mighty Mouse  behavior with new Mac Pro?

    Hi,
I have a brand new Mac pro and Wireless Apple Mighty Mouse & Keyboard.
The mouse however is not operating properly, it is jerky and slow to respond on a intermittent regular basis. I can move the cursor around the screen but it will stutter and jerk slowly then pick up ok?
I had the mouse and keyboard with my iMac and it worked fine. I have run all updates and re-installed but to no avail. The keyboard is fine.
I suspect it's a hardware issue with my new mac Pro but i'd love it if someone has any other possible causes.
    Thanks.

Hi, there's a quite a few people with similar problems, including myself.
My keyboard likes to drop it's connection for no apparent reason, which in turn likes to mess up my mouse and cause it to stutter for a while. Pairing up new devices can do this too, I've found.
It's been thought that some Mac Pro's came with their WiFi and BT wires incorrectly fitted, if you have a search you should find a link to the tutorial if you want to try switching them around.
That said, it didn't make any difference to my BT keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse, so I switched them back.
I've been hoping for a software fix, but no joy so far, glad I got a three year warranty as standard.

  • Mighty Mouse problems - dead click

Recently purchased a Apple Mighty Mouse. Works fine until the click is no longer read by the computer. Usually when switching apps. The cursor moves fine and it causes the dock to appear and react correcly when moved over it but nothing can be clicked or activated.
Even if I have another input source plugged in (Wacom, trackball) these no longer react to clicks eaither. Most of the time I'm running without them.
The keyboard also seems to be in-active at that time.
Is this a known problem or conflict of some type? The only solution seems to a full power reset since the I can't bring up force quit with keyboard.
    Thanks.

    Hi Scott
I bought a mighty mouse shortly after they were released and I found after a while, that if I used Button 4 [the squeeze button on the side] as the Application switcher then the left and right click wouldn't be recognised until the computer was restarted.
The only soultion I have is to not use Button 4 for anything and stick to Command & Tab for using Application Switcher.
    Hope this helps

  • Mighty Mouse Problems - right click and battery changing

So I am on my second Mighty Mouse after the first one completely stopped working one day. Took it in to Apple and they gave me a new one.
This new one generally works ok (although right click fails every few days) but when I change the batteries and turn it back on the computer doesn't find it. I have to plug in my old Logitch and discover the Mighty Mouse and pair it again using the Logitech to control the cursor.
Then this morning the Mighty Mouse left click button stopped working so I turned it off and on again and once again, the computer didnt recognise the mouse and I had to go through the whole discovering and pairing process again using my other mouse.
Any ideas - I have checked the Bluetooth preferences and cant seen anything that I should be checking - it says my mouse is paired, connected and discoverable.
Any ideas or are Mighty Mouses just an ordinary piece of hardware - my experience so far has been ordinary!
    By the way - I have a new (December 07) 24inch iMac and 10.5.2

    Hey,
I just talked to German Apple telephone support. They fixed the problem for me! With fresh  installs of 10.7.5 the problem is that two files are missing that are needed for the mouse. In my case I could get them from another computer I own that ran Lion and did have the files. To get to the files you need do this:
    Go to
    /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin
control-click that file and choose "show contents"
now in the finder window navigate to
    Contents/PlugIns/
In this folder should be two files named
    AppleBluetoothHIDMouse.plist
    and
    AppleHIDMouse.plist
If you don't find these files, you need to get them and put them in.

  • BT Mighty Mouse Problems

My Bluetooth Mighty Mouse has had a number of issues in the past few days (since updating to 10.5.5). The battery percentage dropped from 67% to 22% during one days time. It took over two months to drop to 67%. Then the next day the batteries were entirely dead.
I installed new AA batteries and found that within a day they were flat/dead. Now the MightyMouse won't respond even with a new set of batteries. The green light will flash, but no movement. At times it will even connect to the iMac, but will not move. Any help would be wonderful thanks.

    Hello TV:
I suspect that the problem is with the mouse. Hopefully it is within the one year warranty period. If it is, either take it to an Apple store or call Applecare with a warranty issue.
