Mighty mouse side buttons

I use a wired mighty mouse with my mac. I use the side buttons for expose in mac. But in windows I could not find any option to customize the usage of the side buttons. Thus they are by default set to back function. Its very annoying sometimes as I may click them accidently and thus the webpage I am viewing changes to previous page. Its very annoying is there any option to avoid this?

Before messing with the mouse, please find the Caps Lock key on your keyboard and turn it off
The mighty mouse side buttons can be configured to do ONE thing only as far as I know - they both operate as a single button. In the mouse configuration tab of System Preferences you can set the buttons to a pre-specified option or you can tie it to running an AppleScript. Perhaps using an AppleScript you can figure out how to make this work.

  • Mighty Mouse side buttons going haywire

My wired MM just recently lost complete bodily function of its side buttons. Practically any movement of the mouse (especially touching it around the area of the right side button) will send it in a frenzy. I can hear the little click too, as if I were pushing the buttons super fast. Because I have my side buttons set to "show all windows" it pretty much renders the mouse useless. I can't work with Expose flipping it's lid, obviously. Has anyone else encountered this? Is it just a matter of cleaning out something inside?

  • Possible to Key Modify (command, option) the Mighty Mouse Side Buttons?

    Hey Everyone!
I'm just wondering if it is possible to key-modify the Apple Mighty Mouse so that I can have it do the following with the side buttons:
    Squeeze = F11 Desktop Exposé
Option + Squeeze = F10 Application Windows Exposé
Command + Squeeze = F9 All Windows Exposé
I don't think this is possible with Apple's system preference but if there is a third party app/utility/driver or some sort of trick to get this working please let me know. I think it would be really efficient to my workflow! I've tried "SteerMouse" but I can't seem to figure out if it is possible. (confusing interface) Please help! Thanks!
    PowerMac G5 2.0DP   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   4.5GB RAM, 2 x 300GB HD, X800 XT

Okay I just figured it out like 2 minutes after I made the post! Hopefully this will help others if they are looking to do the same thing:
Just go to the "Dashboard & Exposé" Preference Pane and hold down the key you want to use as a modifier as you select the mouse button you want to use from the menu (in this case Button 4 is the side buttons). Simple. So simple I overlooked it!
    Until next time....

  • Mighty mouse side buttons going

I have the original wired mighty mouse (the one that released on August 2, 2005). I keep having the same problem with it. The side buttons randomly click; I need almost no pressure on them to make them do that. When I'm just normally using the mouse, expose activates, it's very annoying.
Why does this happen? How can I fix this? Is it fixed already (the latest update, look on wikipedia)?

    sb.net,
The Apple mighty mouse has always been a OS 10.4.x and higher specifications mouse.
You might have success with usb overdrive: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7115/usb-overdrive-x
I didn't bother with such things though. I got the Logitech LX3 and it comes with
a software installer for all the neat bells and whistles that I don't even use the half of. But anyhoo...
    Good luck!

  • Mighty Mouse side button gives 'new mail' sound

I have recently noticed a strange phenomenon with the mighty mouse on my iMac :-
Whenever I squeeze the side buttons in either Mail or Adobe Reader it gives the (submarine) 'new mail' sound. Other applications are fine. I am using Steermouse, and the side buttons are configured to give the 'page back' command in my browser, which works correctly. But I'm sure that the strange sound problem didn't used to occur.
Any ideas what's going on ?
    Cheers,
    Chris.

It's because there is nothing to go back to, so it plays the "alert/error" sound.
Just like it would if you were to hit the shortcut key....

  • System acts as if I am pressing my Mighty Mouse side buttons.

I have recently begun to experience issues where my system acts as if I am squeezing the side buttons. Sometimes it is find for hours, others it is constantly going back and forth acting like it is being pressed and released constantly.
I tried a regular mouse from my wifes PC and it worked fine. Do I need to reload the OS or is there a repair option that will not delete the 150GB of data I have on my system. Or os there another solution.

    Hi dogstar20
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
For the last 2½ years I've had to leave the blasted touchy side buttons turned off!
There's just something about the way I grip the mouse, no matter what system I use, mine, my (friends & neighbors), even the new models on display at BestBuy and the Apple Store.
Go to: *Apple / System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse / Mouse* and turn the Side Buttons off.

  • Can't assign "Dashboard" to Mighty Mouse Scroll Button

For some reason assigning "Dashboard" to my Mighty Mouse middle button (Scroll) doesn't work. Any other function I assign to it works fine.
If I assign "Dashboard" to either the left or right butons...it works fine, but I want it on the Scroll button. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Script for Button 3 or using side buttons on Mighty Mouse for Button 3

Looks like the preferences for Mighty Mouse only allow the side "squeeze" buttons to be used for Button 4. I don't want to use the scroll ball for Button 3 because it keeps zooming when i do. Does anyone know how to write a script to configure the side buttons to be Button 3?

I think I'm having a similar problem. Lately, my side buttons have been activating seemingly on their own. I hear multiple clicking sounds. I know I can turn off the button, but I use USB Overdrive to activate page back in browsers and the Finder, so I can be surfing and be brought back several pages at once. Very irritating. It doesn't seem to be consistent either. I bought my latest iMac in June, so I the warranty should be in place, but I'm an hour and half from the nearest Apple store, making it somewhat inconvenient to have the mouse looked at.
Heh, right when I was about to post this message, it went back several pages.

  • Resetting bluetooth may fix your mighty mouse scroll button

I have had this problem with the scroll button on my mighty mouse for months and months, and the only advise I have managed to get from here when I complained was to clean it. But I tried that many times and I have had nothing but problems with it, so much so that I recently called Apple and they agreed straight away to send me a new one.
What made me call them today was the clicking action and side buttons on my mighty mouse also failed completely, and I thought the thing was totally broke. Whilst I was on the phone I happened to mention that my wireless keyboard also keeps losing its connection, and the advisor told me to do this following...
This advise was used on my MacBook 13.3inch model from last year.
Turn off Mac, removed the power and battery and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Then turn it back on, but while you turn it back on hold down the altcmnd+RP buttons together. You will hear it ching two times as it turns on, let go after the second ching.
This apparently resets the bluetooth and it fixed my mouse, it now works perfectly.
Anyway, I called apple back to say that this reset not only fixed my keyboard, but also my mouse. Everything now works perfectly. The problem was bluetooth all along and not that the button needed cleaning.
But they said they would still send me out a new one, and so long as they received a mouse back in the post they wouldn't charge me. I accepted that offer and I'll see how it goes with the one I have. I feel that I may have damaged the scroll button trying to clean it and feel that I probably should get a new one anyway on account of that.

    Hello stu:
What you apparently did (based on the feedback you got from from Apple) is reset the SMC (system management controller) and the PRAM. When one has odd problems that do not appear software related, those are sometimes suggested as troubleshooting steps.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Resetting the SMC should not, however, be used until other avenues have been exhausted (based on Apple guidance)

  • Mighty Mouse (wired) Button Config in Vista

Is there a comparable configuration application in Vista for configuring button actions on the mighty mouse? The windows control panel sees the mighty mouse but does not allow it to configure the side buttons or change the default action of the scroll ball. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

It isn't likely that there is an alternative available for the Mighty Mouse in Vista. This is because the buttons on the Mighty Mouse are optimized for use in Mac OS X, not Windows. The drivers and stuff that allow the Mighty Mouse to work in Windows are not the same as in OS X, and lack the driver support for the special buttons. I would recommend buying a "Certified for Vista" mouse if you want special features like that in Vista. If you're using Boot Camp on a Mac, I would recommend having a Mighty Mouse for Mac OS X and a Vista Certified mouse from Microsoft or Logitech for Vista.

  • Mighty Mouse "Back" button

I want my back button like I had w/ my intellimouse explorer or my logitech mx1000 or mx610. Not having a back button is driving me crazy!!!! Am I just missing something in the options??
    yar

Apple's software for the Mighty Mouse doesn't have a direct key mapping feature. Windows mouse software usually assigns the back button to mouse Button 4, which on the Mighty Mouse is the side-squeeze buttons.
An Apple shareware application called SteerMouse can assign shortcuts to the Mighty Mouse buttons.

  • Pro Mouse "side buttons" useless?

I just came into the posession of an Apple Pro Mouse.
I see this mouse has the "squeeze side buttons" the mighty mouse has, but to no avail, I can't find any drivers on the Internet that will let me use these side buttons on my Pro mouse. Running OS X.
    Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Those are not buttons; they're just part of the case design. The Apple Pro Mouse is a single-button mouse.

  • Mouse side buttons

is there a way to set the mouse's side buttons to go back pages while surfing with firefox

Stihlmania, the arrow can be anywhere on the page. Does not have to be placed on the back or forward browser buttons and/or arrorws.
I found this out by accident when I kept flipping through browser pages when I first got my G5 iMac which included the Mighty Mouse. So I had to get into the habit of keeping my finger off of the scroll nipple until I needed to scroll and/or flip through browser pages.
I am new to OS X. I did not want to change the "default" settings of MM until I got use to Tiger. Still learning to use Tiger but, I got the hang of MM so I am keeping the "default" settings for now.
