Mighty Mouse slow when computer busy

In January I bought a MacBook Pro to replace a Macbook and am using the same mighty mouse that I used with the macbook. I sometimes copy large files from my server to my macbook or the other way around. While the copy function is going on my mighty mouse lags badly so that it's almost not useable. As soon as the copy is finished it goes back to normal speed again. Same thing happens when I'm downloading something from the net. I'm also using a wireless keyboard with and a Samsung Syncmaster monitor. It did not behave this way with my macbook.
I've deleted the mouse and reinstalled it.
I've made the mouse a favorite
Any other suggestions?

Hello! The "low power" message means one of the usb devices was drawing too much power and the Mac "tripped out" the usb port. Some G5's have the pmu/smu button as shown HERE while later models do not. To reset the button type press the button once (sometimes you have to have all external cables unhooked) and for one that doesn't unplug all ext cables and let it sit for 30 min. or so to reset the pmu. I'd also repair permissions in disk utility once rebooted. Here's additional info on it. Tom

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Discount When Buying iMac

I recently bought a new iMac but accidentally forgot to check the box that says "wireless mighty mouse." I wanted to buy one yesterday of the online store but found they were £49!! When buying with an iMac they were £13. Is there any way that I can get one for £13? (I still have my iMac Receipt!)

I am sure that the £13 was the difference in price between buying the Mac with a wired vs a wireless mouse. It is £49 at full price. I doubt Apple is interested in trading you mouses, but the only way to know is to ask Apple.

  • Why is my mouse slow when I connect my MacBook Pro to a HDTV?

When I connect our MacBook Pro to our HDTVs, the mouse and cursor lag. Is this a problem because we are using the VGA connector? Should we be using HDMI?

  • Keyboard and Mouse Disconnect when computer hibernates

Everytime I get back to my computer, i have to hard reboot to get keyboard and mouse to connect???  Just started happening after years of use.

    Hi RedTruckMan,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If it seems like your keyboard and mouse are not staying paired to your iMac, first try resetting the NVRAM and System Management Controller:
    About NVRAM and PRAM

    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • ITunes Slow When Computer Connected To Network

    Hi All,
I have never seen this before until now.
I have a user who has an iPhone and iTunes installed, PC decent spec, running Kaspersky AV.
When not connected to the network the iPhone syncs fine and iTunes flies!
When connected to the network iTunes takes approx 5 minutes to open, sync hangs or takes hours and never completes and navigating through iTunes takes an age.
I have disabled Kaspersky to see if that was the problem and it isnt.
I have switched off all settings in iTunes that could interect with the network and that has not corrected the issue.
If i unplug the network cable it starts to fly again!!
    Anyone else seen this?

Same deal here. I thought the problem was with my iPad or iPhone4, until I happened to try something when the computer (XP Pro SP3) was disconnected from my home network. Until then the iPad would not be recognized by iTunes, but I could see it in My Computer. This computer is also used at my office and is part of our Domain. I didn't seem to have this problem at work, so perhaps this has something to do with it. Unresolved for now.

  • Mighty Mouse - slow left/right scrolling

Does anybody else find the left/right scrolling to be slow compared to the up/down scrolling? It would be nice to be able to adjust the speed on both axis.

Seems to work fine now. Must have been a software update somewhere along the way.

  • Turning off Mighty Mouse wakes computer from sleep

    Two part issue:
After sleeping the computer I find that the "power down" on the Mighty Mouse causes the computer to awake!! Does anyone have a solution to this Mouse-killing problem?
I find no instruction about shutting the Mighty Mouse (MM) off when it is not in use (say for overnight). I do see references to relatively short battery life so I imagine that we should power-down the MM when possible. But, the MM appears to be engineered pretty cheaply and it appears that it may not survive many cycles of power up-down. Anyone with thoughts on this?

Bluetooth or USB devices won't wake up a portable running off of battery power. That probably doesn't help you, but I thought I'd note that. I don't think moving the switch actually triggers the wakeup. Of course you can't do that without holding it by the shell, which almost always senses a button press because of the design of the entire shell as right or left buttons.
If you leave your mouse powered-on for a while, it should eventually go into standby mode with reduced power consumption. I use rechargeable batteries, so I don't worry too much about battery life. The batteries lasts several weeks before I need to recharge them and I can keep a charged set handy.
So I take it you're using the mouse to select going to sleep in the pull-down menu and then try turning off the mouse. At least with a portable I can turn the mouse off first then either use the trackpad to put it to sleep or just close the lid.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Sputters During Network activity

Has anyone figured this one out yet.
I have a wireless mighty mouse that when you copy files to or from a computer off a network,
it sputters and barely moves when trying to use it. If i plug in a usb mouse there is no problem at all.
Was using a verizon wireless router and just bought an airport extreme. Guess what. Still does it. When I hard wire my computer to the router all works fine.
I just cant think of what this could possibly be. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are a lot of people with this problem - mostly MacBook owners, but probably because they're more likely to have the wireless and BlueTooth running.
I have the problem with a Logitech mouse on a Mac Mini -- cursor goes bonkers at random intervals, with terrible mouse lag, and I basically can't use the mouse when it's happening. It doesn't correlate with anything I can see in the Activity Monitor, but I can stop it if I turn off BOTH Airport and the router.
Not likely to be RF interference with the signals, IMO, but some have reported that switching to an 802.11n router (or 802.11g with b compatibility disabled) solved the problem.

  • Mighty mouse compatibility with Beige G3

    Hello,
I have an interesting problem with trying to connect a mighty mouse to my beige G3. When I depress the mighty mouse button, the computer thinks it is a control-click rather than just a normal click. This seems to happen about 80% of the time if I can recall correctly. (a control-click brings up a submenu of other choices rather than the regular single click.)
I am suspecting the problem is because I am running OS 10.1.5. The mighty mouse is suppose to only be compatible with OS 10.2 and later. But generally, it seems to work fine on my OS 10.1.5 system - except for this control-click problem.
Would anyone know of any solutions to such a problem?
Should I try "USB overdrive" perhaps?
    http://www.usboverdrive.com/USBOverdrive/News.html
My other solution is to just use another USB mouse. My other USB mouse (from my blue and white G3) works fine on the beige G3. The problem is only with the mighty mouse.
    Thank you for any suggestions,

The final problem has now been solved. I am a little embarrassed about this because I now realize I had no clue how to operate the mighty mouse. All the problems listed above I have now discovered were due to my own operator error. Oops. I did not know the mighty mouse had a left and a right button! Its so elegant that you cannot see this. I thought that when you click down on a mighty mouse, it was always a regular click. What I discovered today was that the mighty mouse can sense if you click on its right side or its left side. What a smart mouse! It can distinguish between pressure on its left versus its right. If you click on the right side of a mighty mouse, that signals a right click. I wasn't aware the mighty mouse was so sophisticated. No wonder the submenus (that traditionally pop up when you control-click) kept appearing so often when I clicked the mouse - I must have been right clicking without being aware of it.
Problem solved. I suppose I should have read the instructions before I plugged in the mighty mouse.
    PS
I tried the free 30 day trial of USB overdrive [1]. Nice program. It wasn't necessary to operate the mighty mouse on my beige G3 but it sure is useful - especially for customizing the mouse buttons. Great program.
There is a beta version of USB overdrive that works for OS 10.1.5. Works very well.

  • Laggy Mighty Mouse (BT)

My mighty mouse cursor is lagging often... It looks like it's "skippin" a bit around.
That was not happening on my Mini before I switched to the Mac Pro. Any ideas?
There is nothing running the background or weird process hanging either.

I am having the same issue. My Mighty Mouse lags when I start and slow on mouse movements. I too went from a mac mini to a Power Mac.
The only things I have connected are they Bluetooth Keyboard and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse.
I even checked to make sure my phones Bluetooth was off.
I downloaded the "imousefix" on version tracker and it somewhat helped. It is better but not 100% like it was on my mini.

  • Mighty Mouse Scrolling

    Hello,
While using my iMac the other day I began to have trouble with my mighty mouse's scroll ball. I could scroll down, left, and right, but I could not scroll upwards.
I have had this problem before with the mighty mouse (also when scrolling backwards) and a quick blot and rub with a damp cloth was enough to solve the problem. I guess it cleared some dirt out of the scrolling mechanism. I have tried this method again but it will not remedy the problem.
Has my scroll balll gone bad, or am I just not doing something right? My machine is still under the 1 year warranty, so it's not a crisis. I just want to make sure that the mouse has malfunctioned before I call AppleCare.
    Thanks.

    hi dv guru--
cleaning the mighty mouse is the best first step. i would try a couple of other things. first, i would do a pmu reset. instructions are given here. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446. make sure you don't just unplug the cord from the outlet where it is plugged in. unplug the cord from where it goes into the back of the computer, and leave it plugged into the outlet, then, after half a minute or so, plug it back in to where it goes into the power supply. if that still doesn't get it working, try booting to the install disk and running disk repair. instructions for that procedure are here. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 let me know if either of those things works. • Mighty Mouse Eating Up Batteries and Reporting Incorrect Battery Levels?

In the past week, my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse has eaten up 3 sets of batteries (all brand new). Two sets became completely dead and one set now has 70% battery which is steadily going down. In the past 5 min it has dropped from 72% to 54%. I shut my Mighty Mouse down when I am not using it, and I haven't had a problem with it since I got it 3 months ago.

I got a Mighty Mouse which came with my 27" iMac.
I cannot believe how fast this mouse drains batteries. It's ridiculous.
In the 2 months I have owned this computer, I have gone through more batteries than my previous Logitech wireless mouse in two years. I'm not kidding.
I would say that I have to switch batteries about once every two weeks to three weeks. I try to remember to turn it off but I usually forget. However, my behavior is no different than when I used the Logitech on my G5.
I'm wondering if the distance of the signal has something to do with it.
My Logitech mouse used a little USB receiver which plugged into my keyboard, so the mouse was always right next to it for the most part, about two to three inches away most of the time.
However, with my iMac, there is no receiver you have to plug in. It's built into the computer itself, and since my computer sits back on my desk, and my keyboard and mouse sit on a keyboard tray underneath, I wonder if the greater distance causes the battery to drain faster?

  • Crazy Mighty Mouse! its brand new, but it's not working properly!?

I bought a Mac Pro last summer, amazing machine. However, the mouse! Not so good. Since the beginning the mouse has been acting weird. For instance, when I move the mouse, the cursor jumps to another direct. Sometimes, it moves opposite to where I am moving the mouse! Bottom line, the mouse is possessed!
    - I thought it’s a software problem. I did a recover… the problem persists.
    - I used the mighty mouse on another computer… the problem persists.
    - I tried using it with and without a mouse pad… the problem persists.
So I bought a cheap $10 mouse! And used it on my Mac… it works fine!
Conclusion >>> Mighty Mouse doesn’t got some kind of problem.
Time passed, about 2 month, and I am still using the cheap mouse I bought, but I would like go back to the mighty mouse. What can I do? What are my options? Should I send it to apple? How? Etc..
    Thanx for the help

I've found that if I used a shiny, reflective mouse pad with a shiny reflective white stripe on it my pointer jumps all over the place when it crosses the white reflective stripe. I also have a cloth top mouse pad with non-reflective white printing and it works OK there.
Got this from an IBM support site:
Test the optical mouse without using a mouse pad. When using an optical mouse with a mouse pad you may experience poor tracking or responsiveness. Due to the nature of optical mice, you should avoid mouse pads that are very glossy or highly reflective because they may cause poor tracking. You should also avoid very dark mouse pads. If you are not sure if your mouse pad is causing tracking issues, try a plain piece of white paper to see if the optical tracks better. If so, then the mouse pad you are using may be the problem. Experiment if possible. Light colors like white, tan, or gray that have a flat, non-reflective finish work best. The optical mouse takes microscopic snapshots of the working surface at a rate of more than 1,000 images per second. If the mouse is moved, the image changes. The tiniest irregularities in the surface can produce images well enough for the sensor and DSP to generate usable movement data. The best surfaces reflect but scatter light; an example is a blank sheet of white drawing paper. Some surfaces do not allow the sensor and DSP to function properly because the irregularities are too small to be detected. An example of a poor optical-mousing surface is unfrosted glass.

  • Mighty Mouse will not scroll horizontally uder 10.3.9 why???

    Hi all
I was trying out my Mighty Mouse under 10.3.9 and it's not scrolling horizontally and on Apple support sight it said that it should scroll horizontally and vertically but it just doesn't scroll horizontally why is this? I have tried it on 10.4.10 and no problem here so I know that the scroll ball works and not broken. Is it a software/hardware "glitch" under 10.3.9 or a typo in part of Apple and if not how can I make it scroll horizontally under 10.3.9????
    Thanks!!!!!
PS: Here's what Apple says in they're "Support" section:
+*If you use Mighty Mouse on a computer with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier, the mouse offers the following functionality:*+
+*Primary and secondary button functions are assigned to left and right buttons respectively*+
+*Vertical and horizontal scrolling is enabled (scrolling can't be disabled)*+
+*Can activate Exposé from the Exposé pane in System Preferences*+

I believe the booklet that came with the mouse explains what features work with each version of Mac OS X (I can't remember the page - I don't have the booklet to hand at the moment); I would expect the scroll ball to work with 10.3.9...
