Mighty Mouse + Two-Finger Back Swipe = Wheel of Death

I'm a data-mining tech and I'm going to lose my job soon cause this new Mighty Mouse that I thought would be great and even more efficient for Safari surfing has turned into a disaster to use. It's not every time but often, when I use the two-finger "back" gesture, Safari ties up and eventually greets me with the beach ball of death. I think I'm going to have to plug my wired apple mouse back in to be able to work again. I have the special update for this new mouse installed and have even completely reset Safari. Any ideas all? Thx.

Hello s:
There are only a couple of things I can think of to try (I do not have the new mouse, so I cannot experiment).
1. Trash a preference file and restart (com.apple.bluetooth.plist).
2. Reset Safari.

  • Magic Mouse - Two Finger Swipe not working in Finder + iTunes

    Hello,
since OSX 10.8 I realized that in Finder & iTunes the backward/forward navigation has stopped working with Magic Mouse (two-finger-swipe gesture).
I have already read a lot of forums as well as apple-discussions and didn't find a solution apart from MagicPrefs or any other 3rd-party-app.
Is that a bug or just not meant to work? Does anybody know why Apple stopped providing this - very useful - gesture?
Thank you for your time and have a perfect day
    Sascha

    Pual_31 suggested good advise...
I would also recommend if that does not work, to reboot and run "repair permissions" from Disk Utilities.
Also might suggest downloading and trying MagicPrefs, it's a free program for the Magic Mouse and it really works great. May help with your problem, may not but I'd give it a try.

  • Magic Mouse two finger swipe (forward/back) not working with Opera 10.

Magic Mouse left and right two finger swipe (forward and back) works great with Safari, Firefox, and Camino.
I enjoy using Opera 10 and noticed that the two finger swipe does not function with Opera. Any ideas on why or what adjustments I can make to get it to work?

No workaround so far with this problem and also no posts in the Opera forums. Just have to wait until Opera includes this functionality in their next release.

  • Windows 7, Magic mouse, two finger swipe action

    I'm using the 27" iMac.
Does the newer bootcamp supports two finger swipe action on the magic mouse on Windows 7?
Also, the scrolling action works but I can't seem to control the speed of the scrolling.
Are these normal at this point?

    Hi,
if not already done, install the BC Driver update 3.1 http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/

  • Magic Mouse -- two finger swipe problem

I have the wireless mouse. Twice now, I have had to unplug my iMac to get the mouse to work with the two fingered swipe. Anybody else experiencing this inability to perform the two finger swipe?

Per your system info: +"iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.6.2)"+
G5 iMacs cannot run Snow Leopard. Only Intel Macs can. Therefore, you actually have an Intel iMac. Please correct your system info so that you will get the correct troubleshooting suggestions.

  • Magic Mouse Two Finger Swipe

I've had a magic mouse for quite awhile but there's one thing that has never worked correctly: two finger swipe.
When trying to use the gesture to navigate through web history or pictures, it will only work going backward (left swipe). When I swipe to the right, the active window is hidden. I'm very baffled and hoping there is a fix as I would really like to use this feature. Thanks!

  • Two finger "back" of "forward" swipe in Safari won't work on PDF web pages.

This is a problem that carries forward from OSX 10.6 when using the swipe gesture on the magic mouse for browsing "back" and "forward" in Safari. It now continues with the mouse and on the track pad in 10.7.  When viewing PDF web pages the 'back" and "forward" swipe gestures work only sometimes, and when they do work, it requires a much faster swipe.  There are no issues associated with clicking on the back and forward buttons at the top left corner of Safari, so this appear to be isolated to gestures.  Is there any solution to correct this inconsistency?
    Thanks,
    Marc

Indeed, swiping back from pdf pages sometimes works, but most often does not.
It seems that the swiping gesture has in all cases changed slightly. It is now necessary to swipe a little until a portion of the previous page is uncovered, and only then can one swipe back.
The fact that there is a specific way to swipe back from html pages suggests that there might be an equally specific way to swipe back from pdf pages. I am still experimenting. Meanwhile make sure no one is sitting to your right in case your trackpad flies off during a gesture trial.

  • Mighty mouse randomly goes back a page in Safari???

So I have a 2 month old iMac which came with the very sleek and sexy new mighty mouse. As comfortable as it is, I want to throw out a window. It randomly goes back a page on me all the time (even once as I was writing this very topic!!) as if i had right-clicked and chosen back. But I didn't, I swear it! No menu ever shows, and I can never ever repeat it on purpose. Doesn't seem to happen in Firefox for some reason but I don't use it often and again, can't make the issue occur. I have lost so much written text and time to this and am about to go back to the previous magic mouse. I cannot figure out why this keeps happening. Also finding the mouse absurdly sensitive in general no matter how the settings are configured.
Is this happening to anyone else?? Any ideas why?? Thanks.
(sorry if this should be posted elsewhere but there's no section for accessories as far as I could see)

It's been 24 hours since I fixed the disk permissions and reset safari with no repeat incidents (fingers crossed)! Thanks so much! Seems so obvious but I was convinced it was the mouse itself. Thanks again

  • HT203171 Magic Trackpad fail. It keeps clicking, sticking, selecting everything to the point of unusability. I'm lucky I have my old "mighty" mouse as a back up. SO annoyed right now. What gives anyways? Why did the trackpad just stop working all of a sud

    It's bugging me so bad.
I loved everything about it too, the swiping, gestures and everything are so intuitive. Now, no more thatn 20 minutes ago it just goes crazy. Rebooted the computer. Changed the batteries. Disconnected and reconnected everything. ARGGGGGG.
So lucky I kept an old wireless Might Mouse around, but it feels like being stuck in the past.
    Now I'm really upset.
OK, so that was mostly a rant, but man, I'm really ticked. My productivity has gone down in half! I was very acustomed to the trackpad by now - 1 year after purchasing my iMac... and conveniently AFTER the warranty. Those things are like $70!!!
So far there doesn't seem to be a solution. I know it's not a battery or anything - the trackpad is separate from the computer. Tried cleaning the trackpad several times, and no effect.
    Please help -
    Thanks,
    Sm34rZ

Forget everything I wrote about bluetooth device interference having anything to do with this issue. I was obviously headed down a rabbit trail with this suggestion.
What I've since determined (that is working for me) is to focus in on the small round bumpers on the backside of the trackpad. I suspect that over time these probably loosen and become more sensitive or even stuck. This might explain the auto-selecting in the erratic behavior of the trackpad.
As a workaround, I used a felt cloth (folded several times) to elevate the backside of the trackpad so that the bumpers no longer touch my desk. This takes a loose or stuck bumper switch out of the picture. Then I enabled the trackpad features for "Tap to click" and "Secondary click," which are located at:  System Preference > Trackpad > Point & Click.
Only if you have serious computer repair skills would I advise attempting to adjust the sensitivy of the bumper switch: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Magic+Trackpad+Click+Feature/6171/1
As for myself, I'll be purchasing a new trackpad tomorrow morning. I love this device, but it seems that once the bumpers begin to wear out, they do so quite abruptly, and your best course is to get a replacement before pulling out any hair you still have left.
Again, my apologies about the mis-cue on the bluetooth issue. Good luck!

  • Assign Mighty Mouse Button to "Back"

Ok, this isn't perfect, but it works "natively" without shareware or special installation.
Create a new Applescript, with one line "tell "System Events" to keystroke (ASCII character 8)", then save as an Application in a folder somewhere (maybe ~/Library/Scripts?). Finally open the Application bundle and edit info.plist to include "LSUIElement" and set it to "true", ie:
    <key>LSUIElement</key>
    <true/>
Then set the squeeze button assignment in System Preferences to the Application you made. It's not a perfect solution since the application has to be launched each time you press the button, but it's fairly fast and there's no dock interaction or "blur".

it looks like "key code 123 using {command down}" may be a little better overall

  • I upgraded my imac to snow leopard and now every time I click the mouse I get the spinning wheel of death

One morning a week ago I got the "White Screen Of Death" and my desktop imac wouldn't load so mac support told me I had to erase my history and upload imac again. We went through every senario to get it to work to no avai. I had a snow leopard disc so I uploaded that as well. In the last few days I click on my mouse and I get the "Spinning Ball Of Death" most every time I click. It lasts for about 5 - 20 seconds every time. I am not a "techie" at all. Is there any way to stop this. I am not sure what could be causing this. I erased my browers cache on Safari and that didn't help. I also turned the comp. off then back on and that didn't work either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Step by step how to's? I am not totally ignorant in computer speak but not an expert by any means. Thanks!

    Greetings,
What do you mean by "events to update"?  Do you mean invites to new events or changes to existing invites?
    Troubleshooting:
    1. Your profile indicates you are running 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is the current version Apple > Software update.
    2. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Back swipe freezes safari

Safari recently started this:   Using a two finger back swipe to go to previous page, it will start to slide, then freeze.  Cursor will move off-page, but swipe functions on track pad do not work in Safari.  Have to exit Safari and start again.  Using OSX Mavericks latest version (10.9.2)

    Linc,
I tried doing a restart before I posted this problem.  Didn't resolve it.  After reading your response I decided to do a complete shut down, thinking the parameter RAM may not get a re-write using the restart option.
Later on, I restarted/fresh booted and the problem was fixed.  Thank you for the assist!
For what it's worth:  After I finally got fed up with Windows (malware, browser hijacks, etc.) and going back to Apple after many years in the DOS/Win/Novell worlds, I have been very happy with the virtually trouble-free operation of my iMac.  I had to remind myself that Macs are still boxes full of chips and software that aren't perfect, but they sure are a lot closer to perfect than Microsoft ever was.   Thanks again.

  • Two finger swipe caused me to lose input

A couple of times now, I have been inputting data into a form in Safari and accidently did a two finger page swipe that took me off the page. Of course once I swiped back to the page, everything I had entered was gone. How can this be made avoidable?

In system Preferences, under mouse, select More Gestures at the top and uncheck the first item, "swipe between pages"

In mountain lion (MAC OS X 10.8) I use " command+alt+Y " key combination to watch the photos from any folder and use my two finger to swipe photos foreword and backward.
