Mighty Mouse Warranty?

Yes like many others the scroll wheel on my mighty mouse has almost stopped working.
It is just under 2 months old. I have taken out the apple care package so would/does apple replace this FOC??
I do not want to shell out £35 for something that has broke within 2 months

Hi Ryan,
I would call them, but only after I had tried the usual cleaning steps mentioned in many previous threads (dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol on a cloth rubbed quickly over the scroll ball for example) or you will only be asked to try all these and call back again. If you purchased it from a store near you, then take it back to them if your cleaning doesn't prove successful.
I can use one of these mice for a year with no trouble, but my skin is dry, and I don't even leave dirt on my keyboards. My son on the other hand, if he uses a mouse for a few days, you can see dirty marks in many places, even though we make him wash his hands before using computers. He has sweatier hands than me. I won't let him use mighty mice!
Karn.

  • Can't get Mighty Mouse replaced with AppleCAre warranty

I need to get my mighty mouse replaced and I am still in Applecare warranty and I've done this process before. I enter my serial number and go through the online service process and when I finish and hit "submit" it says error and I should try again at a different time. I tried last night, I tried today, I tried it in Safari, I tried it in Firefox, still doesn't work...

Why don't you just call them?

  • Does apple care warranty cover mighty mouse?

    hi.
as many has experienced, i experienced problems with scrolling up and/or down w the mighty mouse. i tried to clean it with a few methods, and the one that worked was when i used a clean piece of paper, turned the mouse upside down, and rubbed it forwards and backwards several times.
unfortunately, it now seems that i might have solved the scrolling problem (but its slowly not scrolling as well already!). but i cant activate the 3rd button anymore. i press down on the ball and instead of activating the 3rd button, it right clicks or left clicks instead.
i also notice the ball is not as smooth as before. there is some fraying on the surface of the ball.
my intel imac has apple protection care plan till june 2009. can the mighty mouse be replaced?

Actually in 2 months my Mighty Mouse will be 3 years old.
*Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol* and a clean old T-shirt.

I have an air compressor with an air drier on it, you can buy canned air at any electronics store.

No, like Kenichi say's nail polish removers are way to strong and drinking alcohol is way to sticky.

  • Mighty Mouse no longer working properly

The Mighty Mouse has been irritating me quite a bit because the scrollbar frequently stops working. Usually, the cleaning method provides a temporary solution (very temporary considering I've lost count of the number of times this has happened) but now, something different has happened. While trying to use the cleaning methods suggested, nothing worked. I kept on trying and now, not only does the scrollbar not work but the buttons don't work, either. Whenever I try to left- or right-click, my dashboard keeps popping up.
Maybe if Mac could make a mouse that we could open up and fix, this wouldn't be a problem...

    Well there you go then.
Contact Apple with regards to a replacement as I do believe the mouse has a 1 year warranty.

  • Returning a Mighty Mouse

    Hi everyone
I bought a wired Mighty Mouse back in April and while its great when it works, i have to clean it at least twice a month.  Now the scroll ball wont work when scrolling down.  It used to work when i cleaned it but now it just wont work.
I find paying £40.00 for something which only works for some of the four months unacceptable and I dont want to take it apart to clean it as that will void the warranty and it may break.
Would I be able to exchange it for another one at the Apple store I bought it from? I still have the receipt but not the box.

    thanks for the replies folks.
i'll see what they say when i phone them in the morning, then i'll see if i can take it apart and clean it.
If you take it apart (for which it was not designed) you will void the warranty.
When I had mine replaced under AppleCare, they invoiced me for the replacement. As soon as they received the original mouse they cancelled that invoice = free replacement.
But you are right, they only work for about 6 months. For the past year or more I have used a cheap Logitech B110 mouse. No cleaning. No problems whatever. Cost one quarter of the price of an Apple mouse.
The Logitech has only one drawback: it is black! Solution: use it on a black mouse pad, so nobody can see it!

  • Mighty Mouse scroll ball has issues

I've had my Mighty Mouse for about a month of standard use, but suddenly the scroll ball will no longer scroll down (up and side-to-side are fine). I've carefully cleaned the ball, to no avail. I understand that some others have had issues, but that their issues remain unsolvable (they contacted Apple Support for an exchange).
    1) Can any one tell me the number to call Apple (from the USA)? I haven't been able to find it on the site map (all the support numbers are associated with AppleCare).
    2) I only noticed the problem after the upgrade to X.4.4. Could that possibly have anything to do with the problem?

    Hi Jessica,
It could be a software or a hardware problem, I had the same problem with my MM but made the mistake of disassembling it.
Take the mouse to another Mac and see if it works, then you'll know it's a MM problem.
When you roll the ball do you hear a slight clicking noise? This would mean the ball is making contact with the rollers.
Maybe the ball needs to dry or be cleaned with rubbing alcohol (as it evaporates)
You would call the AppleCare number, and yes they might give you a headache about AppleCare, but tell them you have a hardware related warranty call.
If you find it works on another recent Mac (with MM software installed) it might be a OS problem of some sort.
What's good to do occassionally is to clone your boot drive, this way you can boot off a slightly older version of the OS to sort through bugs like this.
It also makes a good backup method.

  • Keyboard & Mighty Mouse problems

    Hi all,
I am using the new style keyboard with my MBP and for some reason I keep losing the bluetooth connection & the message " keyboard connection lost " the keyboard is next to my MBP so I cannot understand why I am getting this message ? Also when I receive this message my Mighty Mouse seems to move across the screen very slow ?
If anyone has a clue why this is happening and could give me some help in solving this problem I would be very great full.
    Thanks Clinton

Edit: You may want to ignore the below. I just realized it was pertaining to the Mac Pro, and not the MBP...
Try reading through this thread and see if it helps:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=633522&tstart=0
In a nutshell, it could be a Bluetooth-related wiring problem. Some people have gone and fixed the problem by opening up their machines and following the instructions here:
    http://www.thelocale.org/files/howtos/mac-pro-bluetooth-howto.pdf
Since tampering with the innards of your computer will probably void your warranty, I would suggest that you NOT do this yourself unless you have to. If you're still under warranty, perhaps you could go to an Apple Store to get it looked at, showing them the above to sort of nudge them in the right direction...

  • Mighty mouse has lost functions!!

Hi everyone, i havent been able to find warranty info on the corded mighty mouse that came with my machine... How long is the mouse and keyboard warranty? Well the main problem.. is that the side buttons.. (default to Expose) and the 3rd click when you just click the mouse by pushing the scroll ball makes the dashboard work.. well those two functions quit working, i reset pram.. mouse isnt dirty.. scroll wheel works fine and left and right click work. but no side buttons or button on mouse, i did find one strange thing. if im in safari... and i click down on the mouse ball.. like i want to make dashboard come up.. and start to move the mouse around the entire page moves. (kinda like a PC) any ideas??? Any help would be appreciated.. I am running leopard.. 10.5.1 I am under my year of warranty... can i just take the mouse in to my apple store and swap it out??

ok, i went into the apple store and they did replace my mouse with the newer non grey buttons on the side.. they are now white.. But it still didnt fix it.. Leopard was messed up, i did a fresh install of leopard and everything works fine.. I still wonder though... what got corrupted??

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Pointer not moving

Need some advice. My 7 month old IMAC wireless mighty mouse is scrolling fine but does not move the pointer...can someone help? Thanks!

    Hi Rich:
That file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences. Sometimes (rare, but it happens) preference files become corrupted - causing all sorts of odd behavior.
If that does not help, try resetting the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not fix the problem, take the mouse to an Apple store or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty issue. Apple does replace things under warranty at no cost (shipping paid both ways). I have had a mouse and keyboard replaced in the past and was pleased with the service.

  • Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse stopped working

Any ideas on how to make it work?
I have a regular wireless mouse which does work, but the mighty mouse doesn't. I've tried turning it off and on several times, replaced the batteries, cleaned the little ball, but nothing works.
    Thank you,
    Lee Anne

    Hi Lee-Anne-
Does anything happen at all? Does the Mac see it in the Bluetooth setup?
It may be time to invoke your warranty or AppleCare.

  • Apple Wireless Mighty mouse

    Hi,
I have a wireless mighty mouse, and over the past couple of weeks I have noticed that the scroll wheel is acting funny. It will scroll down and side to side, but not up. This will happen sometimes then the mouse will start working normally again. It's still within the years warranty, but I'm not sure if I could find the receipt but was wondering if they would have a way to locate my purchase because I paid by card? Is there an easy way to fix this or should I just return it to Apple for a refund?
    Regards,
    Michael

It takes a lot of caution, but I use a cleaning solvent (light fluid). I've tried cloth and dry t-shirts, but nothing had worked quite as well for me. The polycarbonate shell won't get marred by the solvent and I haven't had any problems with the rubber on the scroll bar.
Of course using flammable liquids means you're doing so knowing the risks and can take responsibility for your own safety. I've heard of people who tried killing head lice with gasoline and the fumes were ignited by a water heater.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse & No Bluetooth

    Hi
Some time back when my MacPro was still in warranty I complained to Apple that my Mighty Mouse wasn't working. They sent me a replacement - a wireless Mighty Mouse. I have no Bluetooth so I complained and they sent me a wired one.
Now I've got to thinking there's times when I could do with getting that wireless mouse to run....
Can anyone explain how to do this? Can I just buy a dongle or some such to stick in a USB port? Or is that not possible with this machine?
    Thanks in anticipation
    Jim

Hi Kappy - you're right in thinking my MacPro came without - it was a Refurb, so the basic model.
Appreciate your point that some BT to USB adaptors may be better than others, and I'll google for suggestions which might be best for MacPro - had hoped someone here might have knowledge of what works and what doesn't.
Meanwhile I'm 100 miles of Scottish highland roads from the nearest Apple retailer, so I'll see if anything emerges from websearches before I pack it up for the journey!!
    thanks for your help

  • How can I get Mighty Mouse scroll button to work?

My Mighty Mouse has started to not respond to the scroll button. Sometimes it will scroll up but not down at all.

If you don't mind losing warranty you mighty want to open your mouse. A good tutorial to do this can be found here: http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2005/08/dissect.ars
I already did this twice and it worked like a charm. But be aware that you do this on your own risk.

  • Mighty Mouse Applecare question

    Hello,
I've exhausted all options, the mighty mouse that came with my iMac G5 simply will not scroll down. I've tried all of the recommended steps to get it working, but without luck.
Still covered under warranty, and purchased via the internet, I'm unclear on exactly how to exchange it? Do I simply bring it with my web order receipt to an Apple store? or should it go to a service center? There's probably a simple answer, but I just couldn't find this in discussions.
    iMac G5 isight   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Have you tried the following:
    System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Mouse
Make sure Vertical Scrolling is enabled?
Check the Slow & Fast slider settings?
    =================
TIP: To get to the gook inside the scroll nipple use a plastic toothpick.

  • August 08 imac. Mighty Mouse wont scroll down.

Hey, I have August 2008 iMac and since about Febuary the mighty mouse will not scroll down. I havent been using it much (Had major pc problems... Been working on my pc alot.) and am moving it to somewhere where it will get used more.
How can I get the wheel to scroll down again?
I have tried unplugging it and wiping it on my shirt, and rolling the scroll ball on a sheet of paper upside down. But those didnt fix the problem.

The mouse ball is dirty, you need to use a damp towel and vigorously rub the mouse's ball for at least 30 seconds. Another technique is getting a clean sheet of paper, placing it on a flat surface, turning over the mouse and vigorously rolling the ball on the paper.
If that doesn't fix it (it should!) then it is covered by your original warranty so contact Apple or take it to an Apple Store for replacement.

    Roger
