Mighty Mouse (wired) freezes sometimes. unplugging and replugging fixes it.

Not a big problem but kind of aggravating at times. The cursor freezes on the screen and the keyboard will not work. When I unplug the keyboard for about 5 seconds and plug it back in it is fine.
I AM using an extension cable to extend the keyboard because the stock one is too short. I don't know if this would be the cause or not.
Has anyone had any similar problems?

I supposed I could do that but it's an intermittent problem so I don't know how long it would take. I was hoping someone had already run into this specific problem and figured out what the cause was.

  • I am using a USB keyboard and everytime I wake the iMac from sleep the keyboard will not respond unless I unplug and replug the keyboard. I am using a mid-2010 iMac with OSX 10.6. Any help would be appreciated.

I am currently using a USB keyboard (PC Model) and everytime I wake the computer from sleep the keyboard no longer responds unless I unplug and replug it. The USB mouse I am using works fine with no issues and I have already gone through the prompt to identify the keyboard in the settings. If anyone know of a setting I can use to permenantly enable the keyboard so I no longer have to unplug and replug it that would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was.

  • The audio on my iPhone 4s cut out randomly; I have to unplug and replug headphones to get it back. How can I fix this?

For the last year I have been unable to use my iPhone speakers because of some bug. I can play music and audio through headphones, but that's it. And just today even the headphones became spotty. I'll play a song (through iTunes) for a while, then the audio will just cut out. I can get it back by unplugging and replugging the headphones (sometimes multiple times) but that fix doesn't last long; usually within a few minutes (if not much sooner) the music cuts out again.
I really don't want to buy a new one because this one otherwise works fine. How can I fix this?

  • Must unplug and replug charger several times (iPhone 5s)

I got an iPhone 5s in April. It seems to have no problems other than the one I'm about to mention:
The phone will not accept a charge unless I repeatedly unplug and replug in the charger, sometimes 50+ times. Once it is connected, it will charge normally with ZERO issues regardless of how I move the charger, use it, etc. whilst plugged in.
At first I thought it was the charger, but I've tried 5 different chargers now (3 were from Apple) all with the same problem.
There is definitely nothing blocking the charger, no dust, scratches, anything in the way, nor has any physical damage been done anywhere near it. The phone appears to be in perfect condition and has been in an Otterbox Defender case since the day of purchase.
I took it in to Apple twice and both times their "geniuses" didn't think anything was wrong despite them being unable to charge it there as well. -_-
One important other note: if the phone is dead or off, it will ALWAYS charge just until it turns on. Then it'll just stop. This is why I think it may be a hardware issue?

Hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the phone shuts down and let it restart.

  • External hard drive read only unless you unplug and replug in

I've got an external firewire hd (fw 400 with an adapter) connected to a MacBook Pro 2009 running OS X 10.6.2. It's been working flawlessly until recently. I'm not sure what happened and I don't think it's the result of any system upgrade or modification, but now, at startup, the drive shows up as read-only. But, if I eject, unplug, and replug it in, or eject, turn if off, and back on, it mounts correctly as read/write. Get Info on the drive shows that it should be read/write. I've tried repairing permissions and doing a repair disk from Disk Utility, but no problems are found.
Any idea on what the problem/solution is?

I'm not sure where the issue is but you do you do have it running. One thing you can do to see if it's the computer or the drive is to get another FW drive and connect it and see if it works. If the Mac automatically detects it (like it should!) then that tells you it something with the original drive and if it doesn't then it's obviously something with the MBP. If you take it to an Apple Store and explain the issue they can probably provide another drive to test it out.
If it turns out to be the drive (that's my guess) then it might be a power supply problem or the FW connection, a hunch tells me it would be the power supply.
At least you are finally making progress and can use the drive though!

There have also been others reporting problems with analog VGA connected monitors. If your monitor also supports DVI, then you may want to use the supplied HDMI to DVI adapter or switch to a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and a good DVI cable.

  • Mighty Mouse (wired) Button Config in Vista

Is there a comparable configuration application in Vista for configuring button actions on the mighty mouse? The windows control panel sees the mighty mouse but does not allow it to configure the side buttons or change the default action of the scroll ball. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

It isn't likely that there is an alternative available for the Mighty Mouse in Vista. This is because the buttons on the Mighty Mouse are optimized for use in Mac OS X, not Windows. The drivers and stuff that allow the Mighty Mouse to work in Windows are not the same as in OS X, and lack the driver support for the special buttons. I would recommend buying a "Certified for Vista" mouse if you want special features like that in Vista. If you're using Boot Camp on a Mac, I would recommend having a Mighty Mouse for Mac OS X and a Vista Certified mouse from Microsoft or Logitech for Vista.

if i unplug and replug the apple tv it reboots and works fine on the tv
i tried with three diff hdmi cables and three diff ports on the tv.. all same problem
    help

After successfully logging onto your network, your tv screen should display a 5 digit passcode for you to enter into your mac. Does it do this.
The tv should now have appeared in your device list in itunes and by clicking on the device you should be able to enter the passcode to register with itunes. Can you do this.
I suspect you can do neither from what you have said but whilst I wouldn't be surprised if the later didn't happen, I'd be surprised that the former didn't.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • BT Mighty Mouse Stopped Working ... and more!

I've gone through a lot of the posts on the topic and, while there are a lot of people with the same problem, I tried to do something in System Preferences and discovered a snag of sorts that I haven't seen mentioned.
    Here's the background information:
    1. I've been working with a Mighty Mouse since it came out and everything was fine.
    2. Spilled orange juice on it and got a new one.
    3. New one worked for about three weeks and then just stopped connecting.
    4. I replaced the existing batteries (that were as old as the mouse)... nothing.
    5. I started going through the posts and trying the different remedies (e.g., pulling out all USB and Firewires before rebooting, et al.)... nothing.
    6. I paired the mouse with two other computers (both Intel) and it works.
    Here's the part I haven't read about:
I just went to System Preferences, clicked on "Bluetooth," and my System Preferences got hung up (spinning ball) for about three or four minutes while the top of the window said "Loading Bluetooth...". Once in, all four checkboxes were checked. I clicked on the second tab "Devices" and it hung again. Same for the third "Sharing." To write this post, I just tried it again, and the same thing is happening.
I have a D-Link DBT-120 Nodule that I've been using for years. I can still connect to and transfer information to and from my phone with it.
Any ideas? Should I get a new nodule? Different brand of nodule? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

For better tracking, ideally, you should always use a mousepad. A shiny clean table surface will not always give you the best performance...

  • WDTV Live Medi Player - remote will not work unless I unplug and replug media player

Hi I know somebody may have answered this on another thread but I could not find it.  I was wondering: Has anybody found the solution to the remote not working until I unplugged and replug the power adapter of the media player?  It seems to me that something either gets reset in the unit to cause this and we just have to reset it by stopping the power from going to the unt and it somehow resets it back. I have the latest firmware on it, 2.0.32 I think. ansj64

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse keeps freezing after upgrading to Leopard

My bluetooth mighty mouse has frequent, intermittent freezes (which appear to be a loss of sync to the iMac) after upgrading to Leopard (now 10.5.1) from 10.4.11 on my iMac 24" alum body. This mouse was rock solid on my iMac running Tiger. Luckily I do have a corded mouse which I've been forced to use the past week or so.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks.

I was just trying to help my Dad with the same exact issue (Mighty Mouse stops working on waking from sleep & trying to open bluetooth prefs at that point causes the system to lock up. Have to hold down power button to reboot)
Oddly I have Leopard on my iMac 2.16 Core 2 Duo and have no issues with my Mighty Mouse.
Hopefully someone comes up with an answer .... My Dad is 80 and just bought a new Powerbook and Mighty Mouse. It's hard to explain why the mouse doesn't work.

  • Mouse pointer freezes sometimes

Whenever I unplug my iPod (shuffle) from the keyboard (of course after having the volume unmounted), some seconds later the mouse pointer freezes and the computer is totally unresponsive for some seconds. Then everything is normal again, i.e. the mouse pointer can be moved again.
The "system.log" tells something about communication problems with the USB and bus reset or similar.
Is this meant with "hot pluggable"? Should not the iPod be independent from the keyboard or mouse?

    As far as I remember:
    - It does not happen when directly connected to the computer
    - It has never happened with the G3, only with the G5
And, yes, the iPod's firmware is the latest one.
And: Connecting the iPod to the keyboard is just more convenient, even if it's slower. As the MacOS does multitasking, I do not mind if a data transfer runs with two megabytes per second or with one, because I can do something else in the meantime.

  • Mighty Mouse/Mice "Freezes" On Windows 7 w/ iMac... Solutions?

    Hi.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a Mac OSX 10.7 using Bootcamp 3.0.
I'm using an iMac 21.5" Late 2009 model.
There seems to be some connectivity issues with Mighty Mouse's Bluetooth and Windows 7.
As I tend to move the mouse, it begins to "glitch up" and freeze... this happens randomly
at any given moment for a couple of seconds.Sort of a jerkiness motion. Before it would make
    a "BEEP" sound.
I've already taken some measures to solving this issue.
    1. Through services.msc, I set "connectivity" to Automatic
    2. Through the Bluetooth settings on system tray, it does NOT alert for connectivity.
Despite these resolution attempts it still doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone have a solution to make the Mighty Mice work properly?
    Thanks for your help.

There is a Boot Camp forum, because your issue only seems to be with in Win 7 I'd recommend reposting there.
