Mighty Mouse (wireless) will only scroll up & not down

Has anyone come across an issue like this, I think it is hardware, but thought I would ask around first?
I tried using our 2nd wireless mighty mouse that is paired with the iMac and that worked correctly (scroll both up and down) when paired with my MacBook Pro. However, when I re-paired the mouse in question, it still only scrolls up.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

well it used to work...any ideas why it won't scroll down anymore? its just a few months old.
can the mouse get dirty inside? how to take the base off to clean?

Hi Craig, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
There is a post, somewhere, on taking it apart. Not for the faint of heart.
Standard advice, if you search on clean, is a lint free cloth dampened w water or alcohol / disconnect / turn upside down / roll vigorously in all directions. Maybe blow out w caned air. If it is still under warranty, take it in and let them do it. No luck then you get a new one.
    Good Luck, JP

  • My mouse will only scroll one way

My mouse will only scroll down and not up, it has done this before and self cured after a few days. any suggestions?

I assume you are referring to a mouse with the scroll button/wheel in the middle?
I have seen this a few times with more than one such mouse. I have "cured" it by putting some pressure (e.g. considerably more than normal) downward on that scroll wheel and moving it in the direction that it is no longer moving in (e.g. scrolls only down but not up, or vice versa). By applying a fair amount of pressure (don't break it but it's much more pressure than normal for a short time), it seems to suddenly "catch" and then works fine.

  • Does IceMat work with Mighty Mouse Wireless?

I am looking for the perfect mousepad. I am tired of the tiny and flimsy mousepads that move all over the place.
After looking around I found the IceMat. It looks pretty nice and seems like it might be a very good mousepad (It better for $30+).
Has anyone used the IceMat with the Mighty Mouse (Wireless)? If so, how was it? Has anyone used the IceMat at all? What do you think?
Any other suggestions for the perfect mousepad?
    IceMat Manufacturer site:
    http://www.icemat.com/
    IceMat on Amazon
    http://www.amazon.com/Icemat-10012-2nd-Edition-Blue/dp/B000BCZ8Q8

I used IceMat before and I won't suggest it for any mouse from apple.
If you really want a nice mousepad, go for FUNC1030. I am using it
with apple mighty mouse and they work pretty well together.
You can find more information about it on www.func.net
The reason I don't suggest IceMat is that if you read the description from its website carefully, you should notice it's made of glass. It will kill your mouse very fast. That's why they also sell Icemat Padsurfers to protect your mouse. However, none of them work with mighty mouse. Also, for a mousepad which has a hard material surface, you need to clean it very often. At least once a week or might be more often.

  • Mighty Mouse Wireless disconnect

Hi, i've a Mac Mini Intel with a Mighty Mouse Wireless.
After the lastest OSX upgrade, 10.4.8, i notify that my mouse randomly disconnect for a while (2/3 sec), than reconnect.
I decided to try to reinstall Osx from my dvd, and i saw that using mouse without drivers and OSX 10.4.5 there are no disconnection problem.
I tried with bootcamp in windows too and there is no problem.
Then i upgraded my system to 10.4.8 and installed mouse drivers, after this the mouse started to disconnect randomly.

However when I disconnect the external display and start using the laptop like normal...
Do you shut down or at least put the Mac to sleep before unplugging the display? All of Apple's Knowledge Base articles include closing the MacBook (or PowerBook or MacBook Pro) to put it to sleep before plugging or un-plugging an external display.

  • Satellite Mouse Pad will only let me scroll, cursor will not move.

Starting to get frustrated with this laptop.
I'm having to resort to using a usb mouse to even get to the page, which something that I don't want to be doing.
The most will not move at all, it'll only let me scroll up and down (when sliding with one finger).
I've tried reinstalling the driver, to no avail.
I've had this laptop for about a year now, never had a problem until now.
It literally came out the blue. Searching on Google, it seems to be a well known issue, but there's not one solid solution to the issue, which is ridiculous.
The mouse only move if I'm holding down either the right click or left click button, which is useless to me.
    Any help?

I don’t know what notebook model you have exactly, but if you have some problems using the internal touchpad, i would recommend you to recheck the additional touchpad settings:
Control panel -> mouse -> last tab (click settings button)
If you will not find any settings related to this touchpad issue, please check if the touchpad isn’t disabled. Usually FN + F5 (in some cases FN + F9) would enable or disable the touchpad.
Last but not least the issue could be related to hardware malfunction but before talking about hardware issue, the notebook should be recovered to factory settings.

  • Mighty Mouse Wireless Right Click not working

    Hi Friends!
I am having some difficulty getting my Right Click on my Wireless MM to work. I am aware that I need to keep my left finger off the mouse but it still does not seem to be working.
    Any thoughts ?
    Thanks !
    J

Try replacing the battieries (or just taking them out and putting them back in). Forcing the connection between the Mighty Mouse and the iMac to break. Then put the new batteries, or the ones you were you using from before, in the MM.
Re-link the Mighty Mouse to the iMac and try applying the settings for the right click function in System Preferences.
Remember to mark as helpful or solved.

  • Mouse will scroll up, not down.   Any fixes?

I'm a new mac guy having bought an imac a few months ago.
I've been working on this regularly up to and including a lot today. All of a sudden, just a moment ago, my mouse (the USB one that came standard) will scroll up on web-sites but not down. Make that in all settings, not just web-sites.
Unlike the PC mouse I was accustomed to, I don't see a way to clean anything on this one. I feel it's too new to already be worn out but maybe these things have a very short life.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

Hi Clayton: I have seen this issue pop up a few times on here. This is what Apple has to say about cleaning the mouse. I don't have first hand experience doing this, but it looks fairly straight forward on the little instructional video.

  • Extend Wireless Network using a Telstra technicolor Gateway wireless Router to Airpot extreme but Airport will only except join not extend and I can not get a network on the Airpor Extreme ethernet ports but can ping Airport extreme from Technicolor Rout/

Extend Wireless Network using a Telstra technicolor Gateway wireless Router to Airpot extreme but Airport will only except "join a wireless network (which it does) not "extend a wireless network" (Led turns yellow and I can not get a network working on the Airpor Extreme ethernet ports but can ping Airport extreme from Technicolor Router.
    Airport gets it address DHCP.

Funny how I can ping the Extreme but the Hard Ethernet ports dont seem to work correctly.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "Join" a wireless network, the Ethernet ports are not enabled.
Oddly, the AirPort Express has a special feature that will allow it to to "Join" virtually any wireless network.....and the Ethernet port can be enabled. So, an Express would work for your purpose to provide an Ethernet connection to the media player. This assumes that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main router.
Note that the Express will not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "Joins".

  • Windows 7 and Wireless Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard and sound problem

    Hi,
I just installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my iMac 24" white ( OS X Leopard 10.5 ). Surprisingly, it installed without any problems. The only problems I have now are the Wireless Mighty Mouse and the Wireless Keyboard ( alu ).
After I installed Windows I inserted the Leopard Instal DVD and installed Boot Camp. I got a message right away saying that: "This program has known compatibility issues...". I clicked Run program and continued. Soon I got the same warning, but this time not for Boot Camp, but Intel Chipset Device Software. I clicked Run program yet again and it continued installing. Then I got a different warning: "Service KeyAgent' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." I clicked Ignore and installation continued. I got another "Service Mac HAL' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." warning, clicked Ignore again and after that it finished soon and I restarted the computer.
When I came back into Windows there was no Apple folder anywhere or any sign that I have just installed Boot Camp ( should there be? )
I installed Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows XP ( because Vista x64 version wouldn't start ) and basically I got the same warnings I did when I installed Boot Camp from the Leopard DVD ( described above ). I also tried to instal Boot Camp Update 2.2 for Windows, but it didn't start. I also downloaded Bluetooth Update 1.0, but all I got was a message saying: "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed.".
    There is also no sound.
This is basically it, I really hope some of you who run Windows 7 with wireless keyboards and mice can help me, because I desperately need this to work ( I use a Windows only program for school ).
PS. I have a 2007 iMac 24" white and while it is not on the we're-not-supporting-that list for the infamous Windows 7 Boot Camp update, all other iMacs from its generation are. Any ideas?

Found a solution for the "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" message. Here is the link: http://www.techulous.com/hardware/how-to-apple-boot-camp-64-bit-for-windows-7-on -unsupported-macs.html
Everything works ( for ) now. Yay!

  • Mac Mini and Bluetooth Recent Problems (Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard)

    Hello there,
I have an issue with my Mac Mini.
We had a storm here recently, so I switched my Mac off. After that, I turned it on, but to my surprise my Wireless Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keybord do not function any more. The green dot under the mouse nad keyboard flashes for a few seconds and turns off. I tried to plug my regular mouse and keyboard but it seems the do not work too. Any solutions?

i dont know if you have another mac around but have you tried repairing the disk by putting it into Target disk mode and hooking up another mac to it? if nothing else, try putting the install CD/DVD and boot from there by holding down "c" as it boots. if that works then it may just be a bad BT card. if it doesnt work then you may have bad usb ports. i hope you have applecare!
a tip for bluetooth HIDs, spread them apart. you will experience problems on occasion where their signals get crossed and they fail to sync right.
by the way, if you went the extra mile to turn off your mac because you were concerned about it, then why didnt you just unplug it from the outlet?

  • Mighty Mouse-Wireless?

Hi, I see the new machines are wired for wireless keyoards, etc. So, is the mighty mouse available as wireless? I see as an option we can order the keyboard and mouse but it looks like it's the old mouse. Seems strange to offer the mighty free with the machine and try to get people to upgrade to wireless and then offer the old model mouse. Is this true? Or does a wireless model exist? If not, sure a matter of time. It's just that I'd like to order a wireless model and not have to pay for a new mouse in a month. Any thoughts? Thanks all.

Alan, regarding that copy written on Apple's iMac page is meant to be fun, as normally you'd expect a copy to be written as "... sold seperately or ... not included"... but this time it's the reverse, it is included.
Now that Apple has bundled the Mighty Mouse with the iMac, I have a feeling that in the future, Mighty Mouse will be "standard issue" on all macs ship.
As for a wireless version of the Mighty Mouse... patient everyone, I am sure in no time one will pop up.
    Cheers

  • Mighty Mouse (Wireless Pairing)

    Hi All,
Yesterday a shiny new Mighty Mouse, aptly named Squeak!, arrived in my pidgeon hole @ work.
This is easily the best pointing device I have ever used. It is, like the rest of Apple's arsenal, incredibly well designed.
I do have a query about pairing the device.... Is it possible to set up something like Automater to do pairing on booting up the MacBook?
I noticed that while the MacBook remembers the device's name and button settings, I have to pair the devices each time I boot the laptop up & wish to use the MM. It's not a big deal really - just hoping to automate the procedure.
    Any and all advice appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Dan

    Dan,
Bluetooth will always be looking for any devices that have been paired in the past. In most cases, all you should need to do is press and hold the mouse button for a few seconds (the mouse must send some kind of signal for the computer to pick up.
I have found this process is much faster if I add a previously-paired device to my "Favorites." Open up your Bluetooth preferences. In the "Devices" pane, select your Mighty Mouse, then click the button labeled "Add to Favorites."
You'll still need to send something from the Mighty Mouse to activate the connection. Clicking the button once should do it.

  • 2nd Mighty Mouse Wireless

I got a MM wireless and it started to not work, when I pressed the button in the back off & on fast, it started to work again. I took it in and they gave me a new one. This was ok then it started acting up.
I was wondering is there another wireless mouse out there that is not Apple but will work on my new imac (20"). If I get one and use it that won't ruin my warranty will it?
Please let me know what other wireless mouse you use.

    Hello cb:
That behavior for an Apple (or any other) mouse is not normal. If I were you, I would take it back and have Apple replace it.
In answer to your question, I do not use non-Apple mice, so I have no suggestions. Your warranty for your computer should certainly not be affected if you use a third-party mouse (many people do).
