Mighty mouse won't connect after reboot

Hi all,
I updated my ~3 month old Mac Pro with the latest security update on 11/13/2009, and went home for the weekend. Returning on Monday 11/16/2009, I found that my mighty mouse would not connect to the Mac. I'd had intermittent connection issues previously, so I rebooted to no avail. Investigating further, I found that if I click on the Bluetooth menu and select the mighty mouse and click Connect, the Bluetooth icon flashes to connected briefly then back to unconnected. I can repeat this ad nauseum with no success. If I go into Mouse preferences and select Set Up Bluetooth Mouse, and then turn the mighty mouse off and then on to initiate pairing, the setup window will find the mouse. I then click Continue and it attempts to connect, but on the first try it always fails. If I then repeat the discovery and connection process again, it will pair successfully. After that the mouse works normally. However if I reboot my machine, the pairing is lost when Mac OS comes back up. This always happens with the mighty mouse, and maybe 50% of the time when I perform the same procedure with my wireless keyboard. I then have to go through the semi-successful pairing process again. I've tried various fixes including deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and rebooting, but nothing has solved this. This also happens if I try to use a magic mouse I bought for my Macbook Pro on the Mac Pro. I haven't had any bluetooth problems on the laptop.
This was addressed in another post but the original user marked it as answered after Apple had him pair the mouse with another computer and then with the first. Tried that too, doesn't work for me.

Try making the BT devices "favorites."
Go to system preferences>bluetooth. Highlight the device. Click on the little gear and "show more info." Click on the gear again and make the device a favorite.

Mighty Mouse won't connect after 10.6.7 update

I updated my Macbook to 10.6.7 this morning and almost straight away I started having intermittent connection problems. First I disconnected the mouse and attempted to re-connect but no dice. Then I deleted the Bluetooth pairing and tried to re-pair only to get the following message:
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. This configuration of Mac OS X and Bluetooth software could be invalid or unsupported."
The Macbook is less than a year old and the mouse probably only about 6 months. My wireless keyboard doesn't seem to have any issues. I can't believe I'm the only person having this problem!

I noticed that after 10.6.7 you now have to click down on the mouse before it is recognized after sleep or restart. The mouse simply will not move until you click once, then after about 2 or 3 seconds it is captured by the OS and begins to function. You never had to do this before 10.6.7. I did reset SMC but that does not solve this "delay of getting recognized until you click" issue.

Bluetooth mouse is not connected after reboot or bluez restart

I followed all possible guides to make my Apple MagicMouse. I saw on the forums that the key is to mark it as "trusted". I did it in bluetoothctl and put it to "trusts" file in /var/lib/bluetooth/xx:xx..../.
It works fine if I connect it manually but after restart I see only messages like this in bluetoothctl:

Messages are printed when I click a mouse button. There is a small delay between "Connected: yes" and "Connected: no" and during this time I see a bluetooth sign in the notification area (I have Gnome).
Sometimes I see a paring request from the mouse. Sometimes authorisation request and if I go to the bluetooth settings it even propose to type a PIN code on the mouse )
Regardless my action after restart of bluez I am at the starting point.

I mentioned that, because this "solution" used to work for me on previous similar problems. After these steps the mouse used to autoconnect again after reboots and wakeups. Then after some weeks the problem appeared again.
Now this also doesnt work anymore. Now, everytime the mouse is disconnected, I have to push connect-button on the mouse and then manually initiate the connect process from the notebook (KDE: bluetooth applet -> Mouse -> Connect). It is not enough to just turn on the mouse.

Wireless Mighty Mouse won't connect with MacBook Pro in Bootcamp

I recently swapped my Bootcamp-partitioned hard drive from an older Core Duo MacBook to a late-2007 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. I had no problem using the wireless mouse with the MacBook. I'd click on the Windows desktop once it booted up and it worked flawlessly.
But on the newer MacBook Pro it won't stay connected. I have to pair it with the Windows Bluetooth control panel each time I log in.
I'm not sure if this is connected to the issue or not, but I'm not able to use the trackpad and buttons on the MacBook Pro keyboard either.
I've seached the discussions without any success. Advice anyone?

Well, by some stroke of dumb luck it finally connected. I slid the on/off switch open until the green light started to blink, when the mouse connected I opened it all the way and decided to work.

Mighty mouse won't work after installing 10.5.2

I tried pairing it again but it is not recognized. It's on with fresh batteries about a foot from my powerbook. Thoughts?

i found just the opposite.....it was unusable in 10.5.0 and 10.5.1 but now it works perfectly. And I almost sold it .........

Mighty Mouse won't scroll

None of the answers to this topic solved my problem. All of a sudden my bluetooth mighty mouse won't scroll. I can set it to 360 degrees and it will scroll horizontally. But it won't scroll horizontally or vertically if I set it to both. Help!

Have you tried resetting bluetooth?
I have been having the same problem since nearly as long as I've had my mighty mouse, and cleaning it never solved the problem.
I just called apple and got them to send me out a new one, but before they did they told me to do this.
Turn off your Mac, removed the power and battery and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Then turn it back on, but while you turn it back on hold down the altcmnd+RP buttons together. You will hear it ching two times as it turns on, let go after the second ching. This apparently resets the bluetooth and it fixed my mouse, it now works perfectly.
I'd recommend taking the advise of an apple technical advisor first before trying this, I have a MacBook from last year and that's what i did.

I had the same problem after updating to iOS 7 today. I did follow the advice on another site, but additionally rebooted my iMac. Worked after that.
Follow these steps to reset the Lockdown folder:
Disconnect all iOS devices from your computer and quit iTunes.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.
Type the following and then press Return:
/var/db/lockdown.
The Finder window should display one or more files with long alphanumeric file names.
In the Finder, choose Edit > Select all. Then, choose File > Move to Trash. Enter an administrator password if prompted.
Note: Do not delete the Lockdown folder itself. Delete only the files contained inside the Lockdown folder.
Reconnect your iOS device and open iTunes
My Additional step: reboot the Mac. Your iPad should give the first indication that it has worked by asking you to "trust this computer" or some such. Agree. Then iTunes should have reopened with your iPad showing and syncing.

Open System Preferences/Bluetooth and delete the mouse from the Devices window. Restart your Mac.
Close the slider on the back of the mouse. Restart your Mac, open the slider on the back of the mouse. Open System Preferences/Bluetooth and re-pair the mouse and see if that helps.
Check the battery levels. System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse and click Bluetooth. When it gets down to one green tab on the left, time to change batteries. You CAN use rechargeable batteries.

Hi. First post. Anyone heard of this problem? Appears to be location-sensitive. Problem described below, but first, short background...
Just bought entire Mac system after decades in corporate world with PC. Believed the TV ads that it would be simple. Already have been back to Mac store 6 times and have spent roughly 7 hours on phone with help line. Mac store even replaced Macbook entirely in case it was faulty logic board/Bluetooth circuit -- didn't help. Also, problem doesn't happen in store. So, to get to the point:
Wireless Mighty Mouse doesn't work properly when hooked up to Macbook -- herky-jerky, slow, unresponsive, sluggish, imprecise, intermittently better/worse. Went through a few Mighty Mouses and finally gave up; now using hardwire mouse and there's no problem. But before I return Mighty Mouse for refund, would like to see if there's a solution b/c I'd prefer wireless.
System is the latest little souped-up Macbook, 23" HD Cinema external monitor, external wireless Apple keyboard (which works fine), wireless Mighty Mouse (the culprit), Airport Express, HP printer. All brand new from local Mac store (Fifth Avenue, New York)... where the Genius counter folks have given up. I'm not convinced they believe me because (a) the problem doesn't occur there, and (b) after a couple of new Mighty Mouses, they finally just gave me a new Macbook to make me go away... but after going through the whole system setup once again, same problem. Have tried many different mousepads, BTW.
Tried all the stuff phone tech support suggested -- removing/installing/reinstalling software, etc. Airport works fine; using modem and printer connections there. Bluetooth works fine with keyboard. I've scouted around for intefering devices; even unplugged electrostatic loudspeakers and old tubed amps in living room (concrete wall separates rooms), unplugged hifi in same room, etc. On 40th floor of Manhattan hi-rise; concrete walls between neighbors. Have never had interference before with anything; previous PC system worked fine with Microsoft wireless (optical) mouse.
This is no longer urgent because hardwired Apple mouse works well. It's just mysterious.
Any thoughts?
Other than that, I like the Mac environment so far. Fifth Avenue store is cool, also, because it's open 24/7.

Hey, thanks! That was fast. I'm impressed by the Mac community.
This program helped my hardwired mouse, actually, and did give me wider parameters on the wireless mouse, but it didn't correct the herky-jerky/sluggishness -- actually amplified those problems.

Mouse won't work after computer wakes

I have both the original iMac keyboard and mouse (wired) and also a (wired) Microsoft USB Keyboard and mouse set. It doesn't matter which set I'm using as this happens with both. Whenever the computer sleeps and is then required, the mouse won't function. It stays in the centre of the screen.
With the MS Kb and mouse combo I use an additional 4-port USB hub. I have the latest MS software (6.0 for Mac) installed for this set. When needed after awakening, the mouse just sits. No activity whatsoever. The only way to activate it is to unplug the USB connection from its port on the hub. Now it will work fine.
Using the Mac set, the Mac mouse is connected into the Mac keyboard USB port. There is no USB hub in this scenario. However, the same thing happens. I have to disconnect the mouse from the Mac keyboard and reconnect it.
Any idea what is happening here? When I first started the Mac or MS sets there was no problem. Could it be that one of the Mac software updates is causing a glitch?
The reason I use the MS keyboard and mouse (MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard V1.0 and MS IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0) is because I prefer the keyboard layout. I have difficulty with the straight-across keyboards.

Also is the hub externally powered? Or does it draw power through the USB? Non-powered hubs have caused issues.

Mighty Mouse Won't Scroll Down - Solution

My iMac's mighty mouse wouldn't scroll down even after furious cleaning with a damp cloth and all that this discussion site advised.
I took the mouse into the new Cabot Circus Apple Store here in Bristol, UK. Five minutes later I was out again with a fully restored mighty mouse scroll ball.
The 'genius' used a isopropyl alcohol Prep Pad, as used by your doctor to sterile your arm before using a hypodermic needle. You can probably buy these down your local Chemists/Pharmacy. He gave me a strip of these sachets marked "Medium - Alcohol Prep Pad" manufactured by Dynarex Corporation. They seem to be selling for about £1.25 for 200. Cheap as chips even in this day and age.

He then advised me to clean my mouse this way once a week to keep it in tip-top condition.
I'm sure I read somewhere that one wasn't supposed to use anything other than a damp cloth on these devices. Oh well, there you go.

I think you have missed the point.
Try asking yourself, what would you do if rubbing your mouse on paper was no longer enough? That's the situation I was in.

Mouse cklick 406S connecting with my macbook pro 15' OS Lion 10.7.2 (second half of 2011).
After 5 minutes motionless mouse not connected.

Mighty mouse keeps loosing connection

so iv had my mighty mouse for over a year and its been used with numerous laptops. i bought a wireless keyboard there a few months ago. i mainly use my mbp as a desktop. yesterday i decided to lug in a 19" dell external monitor. since i plugged that in the mouse was slow and every minute or two (literally) it would come up with the lost connection image. The keyboard works fine. Actually now that i think bout it while i was using the monitor for maybe the first few hours this didn't occur. I did a search of the forums and didn't find much except the relation to the monitor. i unplugged it and the issue has stopped. i tried a different monitor and it also happened. Any ideas anyone?

Mighty Mouse won't wake up on new MBP

Just got my new MBP 2.4 ghz last week. I have a Mighty Mouse (not the wireless) plugged into an external Apple keyboard which is plugged into a non-powered USB hub. The hub is plugged into the MBP. After a period of inactivity, the mouse won't wake up. The light comes on when I move it, but the cursor won't move. If I unplug the hub from the Mac and the plug it back in, the mouse works again. Small problem, but annoying. I'll bypassing the hub to see if that makes a difference but thought I'd check to see if anyone else has noticed this problem or what to do about it. My 2007 model of the MBP did not have this problem.

I have the same problem the computer wakes up if I press s button on the mouse, but the light doesn´t work and I have to unplug and plug the mouse.

First BT keyboard, now BT mouse, won't connect

Yesterday my Apple BT keyboard wouldn't connect. Flashing green light on kb. Changed batteries, no difference. Deleted pairing. When creating new pairing, it sees the keyboard but can't receive the pairing code. I read the forum here, figured I wasn't alone and that there'd be a fix reported here shortly, and decided to be patient.
This morning my Apple BT mouse also won't connect. Deleted the existing pairing, but it won't connect to create a new one. Both mouse and keyboard are about 18mths old. It's not batteries or battery contacts - both are in good condition.
I'm running Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 1.6.0f2 on Mac OS X 10.4.2 (8C46)

I had a similar problem (once) with my BT keyboard. I tried all the trouble shooting things but it got to the point where it gave me a code but then would not accept it. Here is what I tried (may or may not have 'fixed' the problem. I shut my computer down. I unplugged all USB devices (this is a workaround for a missing BT - not your issue). I walked away for awhile. I restarted, repaired the devices (the keyboard code was accepted, and the problem has not returned).
As I said, I have no idea why this worked - and I do not believe in magic!
I do not think both devices would be faulty - although anything is possible.
