Migrate 10g Discoverer

Hi All,
We are planning to migrate the discoverer 10g(10.1.2.3) to the new linux server(oel 5).
Please guide us to move the application, We have installed(new machine) the base 10.1.2.0 and upgraded to 10.1.2.3 as per the old machine.
For this we have a few questions on the architecture or infrastructure.
1.We have a saved public and private connections in old discoverer link(em), how can we import those connections to the new link.
2.Also how can we setup that infrastructure because we coundnt see the connections in the new link-EM(Discoverer--->administration--->configuration).
3.Aslo we have observered in the old link(Home-->dicoverer-->Discoverer portlet provider) which is not listed in the new link...Did We missed anything while installing?
Insatlled software details:
BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE(10.1.2.0).
Location:/business_intelligence/Disk1/install/ ./runInstaller
Upgraded to 10.1.2.3
Please help us on this, we are confused to migrate.

Hi Anu,
It would be better if you freshly install OAS10g on RHEL.
Then Configure forms and reports according that of Solaris environment
Then deploy Your Application on OC4J.
According to me,Copying the Infra and BI Home directly on RHEL Box and then using chgiphost command,
would create a problem as both Rhel and Solaris are two different environments.
Open a SR, it would be helpful

Error while migrating the discoverer repots

we are getting the error while migrating the discoverer reports. Find the below script and the error.

the above error says the role not found to the particular responsibility. Please let me know how to rectify the above error.

Hi Keka
I am assuming that responsibility does in fact exist in the database? If not, you will need to create it.
Also, try putting double quotes around the responsibility name.

Migrating Oracle Discoverer Workbooks to OBIEE 11g

Hello,
Can you tell me how can we migrate Oracle Discoverer workbooks in to OBIEE 11g , I have heard that there is a tool which is released in last summer for this migration can anyone provide me details on this one.

I'm afraid Oracle has had no success in converting Discoverer workbooks into OBIEE. It is still on the radar but as yet they have nothing.
For some of my clients this is a huge setback. I have a client who has more than 32,000 Discoverer workbooks and adding more at the rate of about 5,000 a year. Obviously a customer of this size is a potential customer for OBIEE. The only thing they can do right now is to rewrite all of the reports.
To do this would be a mammoth task and I did some mathematics for them. Let's say you can rewrite one report every 15 minutes, allowing for testing and parallel runs. Thus you could convert 4 in an hour or 32 in a full day. Diviiding 32 into 32,000 means they would need to allocate 1,000 man days to the task. Bearing in mind that on average a person works about 220 days in a year and you are looking at around 5 man years, not including potentially 1000s of new Discoverer workbooks that have been created in that time. Needless to say my client is not happy with Oracle and refuse to go down this path sticking with Discoverer.
I know for a fact this company is not alone and I personally implore Oracle to allocate resources to correctly converting Discoverer workbooks. I know part of the problem is that there are things that Discoverer takes in its stride which OBIEE either cannot do or has great difficulty with. Until OBIEE can do everything Discoverer can do I don't see how customers can convert.

Changing the port number in 10g Discoverer- Middle Tier & Infrasctructural

Earlier I had insalled 10g discoverer which incudes both Middle Tier & Infrastructural Tier with default port numbers.
Now i would like to change the default port numbers to other port numbers. This is because , i am got to do another discoverer installation with default port numers.
In this case i have one question. Is it required to change all the port numbers that exist in the file "portlist.ini" of both Middle Tier & Infrastructural Tier.
What change still i need to do in Oracle 11i application front.

I did troubleshooting to verify the group, but this just changed the port number back to the default in the listener.ora & tnsnames.ora.
So I did all the steps again to change the port number from the default to another - via lsnrctl status, i see that the new port number is being used, I can also log in to the database via Toad using the new port number, in v$parameter i see that the local_listener is registered on the new port number....only under the Fail Safe manager, the port number (under listener parameter) has not changed....it still shows the default port number. Anyone know how to change this???

How to install 10g Discoverer on 11.5.10 solaries application server

Can some one help me in giving step by step installation of 10g Discoverer on 11.5.10 application server.This is on Solaris 5.9.
The metalink note 313418.1, seems to be little incomprehensbile.

1 Whether you going to upgrade Discoverer 4i into 10g
2.Whether you going to install 10G on seperate oraclehome or a server.
If you select second option you make sure wherther you plans to implement SSO to access the Discoverer or not.Can you tell me your plan.

Hi User,
Create a new shared folder.
Provide access to all the users.
Now, ask the user who created the report in 'My Folders' to save the report in this new shared folder.
And, Delete those reports in 'My Folders'.
Now, as the report is saved in New shared folder you can access - this one.
Else--- Ask the user who created the report in my folder to make sure that it is available to all users. (Permissions - Permission should need to be provided for Administrator group)

I was able to install Discoverer 10g successfully.
Changed the profile options of Discoverer and tried to access it from R12.
But getting below error.
A connection error has occurred.
- OracleBI Discoverer was unable to complete the connection initialization.
- Attempt 1. CORBA protocol : 0 of 1 processes started. Hint: An administrator can further diagnose connection problems by running the "checkdiscoverer" script under <ORACLE_HOME>/discoverer/util.

We are using the function Evaluate because the SUM function doesn't allow to use OVER PARTITION BY. The problem we are having is that it when we use the measure we get an error that says that window fuctions are not allowed. By taking out the ORDER BY it works, however it doesnt do what we want it to do. It doesn't work either if we add the order criteria when creating the report, we get the same error.
Is there any way to make it work?

I believe you have the desktop client version. Plus and Viewer are Discoverer versions that are typically loaded on a server so that multiple clients can access them over the web. Discoverer Plus and Viewer are components of the Oracle Application Server.

Migration of Discoverer of Linux to AIX

Hi everyone,
I want to know if somebody can help me with some information
I am doing a migration of Discoverer (connected to a EBS 11.5.10) of Linux to AIX, and i have found a document of migration this document is only migration of Discoverer between platform.
But post to the migration, i must install some patch in EBS or in the Discoverer of AIX for that working with the EBS?. The version of Discoverer of Linux and AIX will be the same.

Pl identify which version of Discoverer. You will need to follow one of these Docs
Using Discoverer 11.1.1 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i (Doc ID 1073963.1)
Using Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Doc ID 313418.1)
and apply the patches as needed, then migrate the EUL from one server to the other.

Disco 10g discoverer and OWB

Currently We plan to use disco 10g discoverer (web based). We have installed oracle application server but for some reason we cannot have portlet right now. so my question is without running lineage.sql(because we cannot get OWB database DAD, default one is portal30), can we still maintain hierarchy which generated from OWB? Or whether we can get someway to know OWB DAD?

Database Providers must be registered in OAS, under the "Providers" Tab.
You'll be able to maintain your hierarchies, no worries!

Hi Joel,
currently Java in the database is not part of XE (beta). But Oracle seems to consider making it available in the production release, hopefully as an optionally to be installed feature. But nothing is official as of now.
JAVA_XA is a package that is installed with the JAVA option, thus it is not available now. I don't think you can use the scripts of an SE or EE Oracle 10gR2 to install java and I wouldn't want to try :).
I am not familiar with XA but there are two possible scenarios, I believe.
1) Your application code IN THE DATABASE (java stored procedures or plsql stored procedures) relies on the JAVA_XA packages. Then it will not work unless you modify your application.
2) The JDBC / OCI driver you use to connect to the database uses the JAVA_XA packages. Then you might be able to use a different driver. He was referring to the following thread: Re: javavm in the database
