Migrate a GoLive site manually to Dreamweaver

I tried migrating the site manually from Adobe after the
GoLive/GL2DW extension locks up on the Components in GoLive
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/migrate_golive_dreamweaver.html
In the Article it covers how to migrate the Templates and to
change the extension but it doesn’t say a thing about the
Components
Does anyone know if you are supposed to make a new folder and
follow the same directions as the Templates and label it Library
and drag the components into that and then in Dreamweaver change
the extensions to .lbi?
I called GoLive Support yesterday and they did not know.

Define the site in DW to point into the root folder of the GL
site. You are
done.

  • Migrate a Adobe GoLive website to Adobe Dreamweaver

I need to migrate a Adobe GoLive website to Adobe Dreamweaver. I am running a Windows 7 64 bit machine and cannot get Dreamweaver to install from the original DVD or the downloaded installer from Adobe.com. I receive an error message indicating "Failed to launch." Any thoughts?

    What version of DW?
You may be better off downloading it from Adobe and using the serial from your disks to activate it...
    Download and Installation Help
Once it's up and running, start fresh with DW and a new site. There's no good way to convert an old GL site without a ton of manual fixing. The code GL produced was "pretty bad" back in the day, now I would consider it pretty much "hysterically outdated" and not worth attempting to salvage.

  • Migrating from GoLive 7

Can I migrate a site from GoLive CS (7) to Dreamweaver CS3?
The free migration assistant provided only works with GoLive 8 and
    9. I've tried a manual migration but this does not seem to work! I
    would welcome advice.

Dreamweaver has a couple of similar features: DW templates,
    and library
items. However, I recommend you set those menus up as
    server-side includes -
way better. Basically you grab the code for the menu, and put
    it into its
own page, then call it into each page right at the place you
    want it to
appear with the following code: <!--#include file="your
    menu.htm" -->
The only other thing is that the actual pages need to have a
    server side
suffix, like .asp, or if your server doesn't support those,
    use the .shtml
    suffix.
The advantage to using the server-side includes is that you
    only edit the
include and put it up to the server - with templates and
    library items, you
have to update locally, then post all the changed pages to
    the server. Also,
there are certain nasty glitches to both the templates and

  • Golive 6.0 to Dreamweaver CS3 or CS4

About a year ago I called customer service and asked if I upgraded Golive 6.0 to CS3 the migration kit would work, I actually still have the chat record with customer service where I specifically asked them if I could migrate. I was told yes so my company purchased Dreamweaver CS3. Of course when I tried the gl2dw migration, it didn't work and I opened a support ticket and went back and forth with support for weeks trying resolve the issue. I asked for a trial of golive 9 or cs2 so I could upgrade and they sent me invalid links. Finally after a few weeks I was just basically told too bad we can't help you, offered me a refund if I hadn't installed the software which of course I had. So I have had cs3 for over a year and haven't ever used it. Now I see CS4 is out and it says that you can migrate from golive 6.0. Is that really true? Have they ever fixed it so you can upgrade 6.0 to CS3? I can't even get the upgrade version for CS4 because I used my upgrade on CS3. I have a company website with over 500 web pages I need to convert. I really need to upgrade to DW and soon. My company buys thousands of dollars of software and licenses from adobe every year, we are a non profit agency and I can't keep spending money on things that don't work! This is extremely frustrating. HELP!

Making changes site wide can be accomplished 2 ways but in reality unless you are using a dynamic site that draws its page designs from a  central template page.
In retrospect you may want to consider creating a Library item first for anything you may want to change site wide (The first way). Being that you are not there yet you will probably want to use the Edit > Find and Replace from the menu bar (The second way).
Simply open up the file you have changed and another you have not. Next (assuming the option is not right in front of you) on the menu bar: View > Code and Design, making sure you can see both code and Design in both files. Then from the menu bar: Edit > Find and Replace. Copy the code regarding the object that you want to change making sure that you copy any opening and closing tags if appropriate from the unchanged file then paste in into the FIND box. Do the same with the file that you have changed except you will paste that into the REPLACE box also making sure that you have copied the same area.
Make sure Find and Replace Settings are:
Find in: Entire current local site
      Search: Source code
Then press the Replace All button.

  • DW 4 not seeing GoLive .site file!

I have several sites created in GoLive 7. I downloaded the GoLive 9 free trial, brought them over into GL9. Then I did the "Convert Site to New Structure" command as I have seen suggested. Downloaded the GoLive to DW migration extension and installed it. So far so good.
But when I go to Import GoLive Site, and navigate to the folder where the site file is (there are actually several, only one is the current one), Dreamweaver does not "see" the .site files, even though when I look in the window in explorer, they are there. All I see are the web-content, web-data, and web-settings folders, but no .site files at all.

This is an issue that I have never come across before. You're
    using a
non-standard filename extension, so it doesn't particularly
    surprise me
that Dreamweaver ignored it. Have you tried entering
    .properties in the
list of filename extensions, as I suggested? If that works,
    your problem
is solved. All that's needed is for the documentation to be
    made more
    explicit.
On the other hand, if your filename extension is likely to be
    in
widespread use, perhaps it's something that should be added
    to the
standard list of files that Dreamweaver handles. Submit a
    feature
    request to the Dreamweaver team.

  • Migrating from GoLive

I am working on my first site using Dreamweaver, I had used
GoLive up until now. In GoLive when I created a menu I would create
the menu and save it as a component and then bring in that
component into my pages. It was great, if you had to add sections
all you had to do was add it in the component and that would update

would I have to update all of the pages manually?

  • How to edit a PC based golive site on mac?

    Hi,
I have a golive site file I always edited on golive cs2 on a PC. the PC version crashes too often to be useful. I'd like to try to use the golive site on CS2 golive on the mac side, but I have never had sucess opening the entire site file.
is there some way to convert the file to be mac-centric? individual pages are easy enough to work with in either system, but the site file itself crashes in windows 7 and mac.
Using MacPro 8 core 2.8, 32 GB ram, leopard 10.5.8, have traditionally used parallels xp virtual machine to edit, but now i run windows 7. the windows 7 doesn't work as well as the old XP.
I love golive, fiddled with dreamweaver for several years, but it is not for me, so, please do not just say use dreamweaver.

    Hi

It will prompt a connection details tab wherein you can view and modify the connections

  • Can I Import a golive site?

I wanted to bring a golive site into DW and edit it from now
on in DW. I assume this is possible and that some things will break
in the process but I have looked at export import info but it is
    not very clear to me.
If I try to export my GoLive site after opening it, my only
non grayed out option is ( site Locator )
If I try to import from within DW, I only see 2 grayed out
options ( xml or Tabular )
I'm not even sure it is possible to do this, bring a golive
    site into dreamweaver.
Can someone help me out here.
    Thanks.

Just create a site in DW that points to the root folder of
    the GL site. You
will be able to edit the files directly.
None of GL's special features will work in DW, however -
    smart objects,
    components, etc.

  • Quicktime in Golive is activex in dreamweaver

I used GoLive successfully on my own large multimedia website
for several years. Got a message that Adobe no longer supports
GoLive so i bought Dreamweaver. All the films on my site were
created using Golive's quicktime placeholders. Now i notice that
when i open these pages in Dreamweaver, they shows as ActiveX. I'm
not even sure what that is. Going to the media menu, I don't find
any quicktime, but lots of Flash and lots of Shockwave. Searching
for Quicktime in the help menu, i get this statement to use
quicktime/shockwave. I am not a web designer, just aperson who
learned GoLive and figured out how to make things onscreen look the
same on the Internet. I don't really care what all this means. Can
someone simply tell me which flaovr to choose in the media menu so
that the largest audience possible can watch my movies, which
usually .mov format. i don't own a copy of Flash and don't want to
buy it, mostly because i dopn't want to have learn another piece of
complicated software. A pro has told me that "everyone" is now
using Flash format for movies. I do own Quicktime Pro, if that
    helps.

If you own Quicktime Pro you can convert most movie files (I
say most because there are extensions like the MPEG-2 Extension)
and you can convert it into FLV format. I would have to agree that
this is probably the best way to go for quality and size. If there
is a reason you need a higher quality, embedding MPEG-4 files are
the second best way to go.

  • Password Recovery for a GoLive site

Is there anyway to recover a password from a site that is built in GoLive? And if so how is it done. I've done internet searches and haven't found any way to do it.
I have an old GoLive site that I'm working on and need to recover the Password so I can move the site over to Dreamweaver.
    thanks for your help.

The best option to deal with a forgotten password is to reset that password. Nobody should be using old passwords. That is a security risk. Passwords should be refreshed regularly. You can refresh a FTP password by contacting the hosting company. If the master account for the password is also not known, the hosting company can typically refresh that once you prove your identity by confirming the method of payment (credit card number).
There are two ways that I have recovered passwords from my own computer. These methods require that you have at least one program on your computer that can still connect to the FTP site.
One way is to 'sniff' your network traffic to see what plain text username and password is sent to the server. This will not work on SFTP connections (and is why you should use SFTP connections to be more secure).
The other way is to use a password revealer tool. Whenever you see a password field filled with asterisks, there is a password behind it that can be revealed.
Both of these methods can be accomplished with freeware. Should you look for these easy-to-find tools, be sure to get them from reputable sources. You should not want password revealer malware running on your computer that can secretly send your passwords home to the software's creator.

    Greetings,
Can you create a site map with Dreamweaver?
Crawkers do not work because many of my pages are not linked.
    Thanks

I'm not too sure what Crawkers is, but I do not think DW has that capability out of the box.  There are some web based solutions that will scan you site for you and give you a map for search engines.  I choose to go with a commercial option which is pretty good from WebAssist, it's called Surveyor: http://www.webassist.com/dreamweaver-extensions/surveyor/ .
