Migrate cluster to OES2 Linux and new storage

Hi,
I want to migrate a 4 node OES2/Netware NCS cluster to a 4 node OES2/Linux NCS cluster. The storage also has to migrate from old to new storage. The two storage devices are not connected to each other, so I figured a rolling migration is out of the question. So I will build up the new cluster, migrate all resources with the tools provided by Novell and some manual changes.
The cluster hosts several volumes, DNS, DHCP, GroupWise and ZENworks. I don't see much trouble in the migration of DNS, DHCP and GroupWise, but changing references to all ZEN objects is a tedious job.
To minimise the necessary changes in ZEN objects, login scripts etc, I would like to know if it is possible to rename/renumber the new cluster after everything has been migrated and give it back the old name and ip numbers. If not, what would be the best approach?

I'm not sure how well eDir works in this case. Typically, creating a NEW volume (even with the same name) will not automatically re-link the eDirectory objects.
Example:
You have a ZEN NAL object that deploys a network-based MSI like:
\\server1\vol1\data\something.msi
You now create a new cluster object and a NEW virtual server\volume object. I'm not sure you can create a NEW virtual server object with the same name as the old one (I could be wrong--I've never tried it). I guess it would be possible if it was in a diff. eDir container.
Regardless, even if you CAN create a new \\server1\vol1
It's going to have a different GUID in eDir and the eDir objects that WERE using the "old"
\\server1\vol1
are not going to magically know about the new stuff.
Now, from a CLIENT perspective, the Novell Client (assuming 4.91 SP5 here) would happily map to the "new" one with the same name and not be any wiser.
But the home directory attributes on users, and ZEN objects WILL know the difference and you will have to re-edit them all.
It's possible that SOME ZEN NAL objects will just pass along the stuff to the client, in which case, IF you can keep the UNC path (or mapped drive letter) the same, then you should be good to go. But not all ZEN objects are created equally (ie, your ZFD inventory object, server objects, etc.)
Login scripts can easily be adjusted (just depends upon if you have LOTS of them to do or not as it can be time consuming).

  • Migration Problems with Time Capsule and New MacBook Pro

    Hopefully someone on here can help with with this problem I'm having. I just bought the new 13' MacBook Pro this week from the store and I no longer have my old MacBook Pro. I have a Time Capsule with complete backups of my old MacBook Pro and I also have the internal hard drive from it as well.
    I had installed the beta version of Mountain Lion on the old MacBook Pro and the new one still has Lion.
    The problem is that every time I have tried to use the Migration Assistant (and I've tried 3 times now) my files and applications are getting messed up.
    iPhoto won't open. It says that it needs to be updated but when I check to update it it says that there is no update needed.
    I'm seriously about to beat my head against the wall because every time I migrate the data it takes about 12 hours. I'm thinking at this point that it might be easier for me to just swap out the internal hard drives in the units because it is possibly an issue with the OS' and wait until next month to try migrating to the new drive again after Mountain Lion is officially launched.

    I appreciate your honest and prompt response. I was VERY SPECIFIC when I told the sales rep I was hoping to use the Time Capsule with two different MacBook Pro's on different subnets (one is behind a firewall on a router, one is directly connect to a WAN side IP with no firewall) and the sales rep made a point of saying that the dual band feature would facilitate this connectivity which left me with the impression (obviously wrong) that the WiFi features of the time capsule could be used to communicate with multiple Macs regardless of their own networking configurations. (I have been configuring fairly complicated networks for 20 years and only bought my first Mac two and a half years ago; the second Mac is only six months old; the third will be bought next month.)
    This isn't the end of the world for me... it does require reconfiguring my network and doing a lot of port tunneling for the box outside of the firewall in order to bring it inside as well as giving up some remote access redundancies (which were based on the ability to connect to both machines using VNC software which is port specific which means that it needed separate WAN side IP addresses).
    Overall I love the Mac approach compared to the nightmare that was (is) Windows (although I do also run an Ubuntu Linux box just to keep me honest). That said, your sales reps do your products a HUGE disservice when they give glib and incorrect answer to what was, I believe in my case, a very specific and precise question.

  • Can both the old(migrated from another external HD) and new time machine backup be read on iMac?

    HI,
    I lately migrated the time machine backup from an external HD(WB) to a new one(G Drive).  If I connect the new one i.e. G Drive to my iMac for Time Machine, will there be a new folder created in G Drive?  Will it be a new backup i.e. backup everything on iMac?  Can the old time machine backup be read when I enter Time Machine on my iMac?  Thanks in advance.

  • WebAccess on OES2 Linux and C005 error

    Hi All
    I am going around in circles! GW 8.02 running fine with a PO, Dom and GWIA. I am trying to install the Web Access agent however during the configuration I get an error at the Gateway Object page
    An attempt to add an object to the directory failed (c005)
    Following a few hours of investigation I can only find a TID 10096216 which doesn't help as I am selecting the domain
    cn=cexc-dom,ou=server,ou=windsor,o=cexc
    where cexc-dom is my GW domain

    1:Is there change in DB architecture as CUIC is the only option as compared to previous linux version UCCX ?
    I assume this is from the tables regarding historical data. The database schema essentially remains the same since UCCX 9.0 had CUIC too and we had a seperate DB Space for CUIC and we still continue with that. The traditional historical tables remain and the replication process remains the same too.
    2:Is there any version change for Linux OS used as VOS,
    The Linux version is Red Hat Linux 5. To be precise:

    3:Is there any API architecture change in UCCX 10 from previous releases ?
    I can answer this more of an overview. The only enhancement in the API side is the introduction of REST API step in the script editor. You can now make REST calls from the script and this ofcourse opens up a whole new world of possiblities.
    4:Since from UCCX 10 , we can only use either CAD or Finnesse at one  time, whats the impact of changing this after some time in production,  let say , i used CAD for 2 months and then i decided to move to Finesse,  whats the impact ? or is it a smooth change as switching CUIC and HRC  in previoius release ?
    For the scenario you mentioned, there is absolutely no problem. The point to note is that the Finesse services are activated/deactivated but the CAD desktop services are ALWAYS running. The only condition to keep in mind is that you can use ONLY ONE type of agent desktop at any time.  Also if Finesse is not used and CAD operations are used extensively, it is advisable to shutdown the Finesse service.
    5:Is 3rd Party UCS hardware supported by UCCX 10 instead of using Cisco manufactured UCS , can i use HP hardware for Virtualisation ?
    Yes, it can be used. This is something called as "Third party specs based specification". The most important things seen for compatibility are:
    Inter CPU Model
    It it is on thVMWare Hardware Compatibilty List

    6:Is Host name change supported?
    Yes, the hostname change is supported. The prcocedure is documented in the UCCX 10.0 Administration Guide:

  • Migration assistant fails and eats storage

    Mac Book Pro 10.10
    While utilizing Migration Assistant between two OS 10.10 machines (old and new) via thunderbolt connection the migration stalled with 1 min to go. I turned off both computers an rebooted them seprately. The new computer displayed the account I had created while in migration assistant and logged in with the appropriate credentials however no files were displaying. I logged out and signed into another admin account I had created before the migration and deleted the account specifically check the box to erase the home folder of that user. At this point I had already noticed that it had eaten 300+ GB of my storage and hoped that deleting the account would give me back the storage. However after restarting several times, running disk utility and emptying the trash, there still seems to be a phantom 300 GB of storage somewhere on the machine un accessible by me. Any insights would be helpful. I would like to get my storage capacity back without having to wipe the entire HD.

    So I Found the issue.... It was stored in Private/var/zz/cleanup at startup
    I found the profile name (home file) in the cleanup at startup folder and deleted it. System is working and now I have my disk space back.
    I followed the directions that Linc Davis suggested in this post: How do I resolve 43+ GB of missing storage on the Macintosh HD?

  • Hyper-v Cluster and new AD organisation.

    Hello everyone.
    We have a very very bad situation.
    In one of our new customers we get the following configuraion.
    Organisations AD was corrupted and lost 
    there are Hyper-v nodes WinSrv2012 in failover cluster hosted on  8x HP c7000 blade system
    there is HP P2000 datastore 49.5 Tb full size. 
    there isn't VMM (please don't ask me "Why"
    2 CSV volumes pesented to cluster (i suppose via Failover cluster services)
    And the worst thing we actually don't have any backups. I suppose previous local administrators were irresponsible.
    So we have the following behavior of system
    We don't able to move Virtual machines between nodes even manually.
    DAtastore is full. We cannot create  new LUN because All disks are used.
    There are too many critical VM's which couldn't be stopped for a long time.
    I have new AD but i can not rejoin nodes to the new domain because almost all node contain critical machines and as i told i can not move ones to another node as well. Also i cannot do it because in this case moved node will deleted from Failover cluster so
    in this case i can damage csv volumes.
    Actually i can turn off each VM for a little time. 
    So i have a question. What is the best solution in this situation. can i use for migrate all hyper-v infrastructure to new AD but keep all most part VHD's in place.

    Ouch, this is a horrible situation.
    My advice would be that you
    1. Connect a new Hyper-V host to the new domain (You can disconnect one from your old cluster, format it and connect it to the new domain).
    2. Configure it as a new cluster, this can be performed with one node.
    3. Copy the VM's from the old cluster to the new cluster. Your going to need to work out a way to have enough free space to perfrom this. I would try using local disk space to free up a Lun then assign that Lun to the new cluster. Continue copying untill
    another Lun free's up and so on.
    4. After all VM's are copied and imported to new Hyper-V you can format the second cluster node and join it to the new cluster.
    5. Your going to have to re-join every VM manually to the new domain.
    Hope this gives you some insight on a solution for your problem.

  • Changing Hyper-V host and cluster virtual IP addresses to new subnet/VLAN

    I have a 2 node Hyper-V 2012 R2 failover cluster, managed by System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2, and I would like to change the IP addresses of the hosts and the cluster, in order to move them to a new subnet and VLAN. The existing and new subnets
    are able to route to each other so all hosts will still be able to communicate throughout the parts of the process where they may be on separate subnets. There is also a dedicated cluster heartbeat network on its own subnet and VLAN that I am not altering
    in any way.
    The 2 hosts are configured with 4 nics in a team, with dedicated virtual interfaces for each of the following:
    -Live Migration
    -Cluster Heartbeating
    -Host management/general traffic (the cluster virtual IP address is also on the same subnet as these interfaces).
    It is the host management/general traffic addresses that I want to change. The interfaces were created and configured with the Add-VMNetworkAdapter, New-NetIPAddres and Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan commands.
    Please advise if the following process is correct:
    1) Evacuate all the VMs from the first host to be changed and put it in maintenance mode.
    2) Use Set-VMNetworkAdapter to change the name of the interface (the current name refers to the VLAN it's on)
    3) Use Set-NetIPAddress to change the IP address and gateway of the interface as appropriate
    4) Use Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan to set the VLAN ID
    5) Take the host out of maintenance mode and move all VMs off the other host
    6) Repeat above steps on the other host
    I know that I will then need to change the cluster virtual IP address, but I have no idea how to do this or where to look for that setting. Please advise!

  • Migrating Protection group to new storage pool

    Hello all running DPM 2012. The environment was setup prior to my arrival and it was setup with 10 1.5TB storage pools.  I heard the thinking was this was the recommended size for storage pools.  Problem is now we are/have run out of disk space
    on those storage pools and jobs are failing with "DPM does not have sufficient storage space available on the recovery point volume to create new recovery points (ID 214)"
    I have created new 4 new storage pools of 10TB each and I want to know how I can migrate the protection group data to the new storage pools and have the protection group use the new storage pool moving forward.  I want to empty the smaller storage pools
    so I can kill them off and create larger storage pools.
    Unfortunately the GUI does not allow me to point to specific storage pools, it should, and I'm not familiar with DPM Shell commands.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    The following commands can be used with the ntdisk number as seen in either the get-DPMDISK output, the Windows Disk Management GUI or DPM Management - Disks GUI.  In my example disk-0 is the system/boot disk and not used by DPM storage pool.
    EXAMPLE These commands show the migrations going from NTDisk 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 to NTDisks 11,12,13,14 
    $source = get-dpmdisk -dpmserver DPM-SVR-NAME | where {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 -contains $_.ntdiskid}

    $destination = get-dpmdisk -dpmserver DPM-SVR-NAME | where {11,12,13,14  -contains $_.ntdiskid}
    $destination
    Once you are satisfied the outputs are what you want, then run the following to do the migration:
    MigrateDatasourceDataFromDPM.ps1 -DPMServername DPM-SVR-NAME -source $source -destination $destination

  • Migrate zpools to new storage array

    I am in the process of migrating to a new EMC storage array. I used EMC SRDF to copy all tracks from the current disks to the new disks, so that all new disks look identical except for the actual device path since the WWN is different on the new array. I was hoping I could simply unmask/unmap the old SAN, mask and map the new SAN, and ZFS would be able to import the pools from the new SAN (like you can with veritas), but I didn't take into consideration that the device paths/names would be different and ZFS wouldn't like it. Is there any way to get solaris to see the new ZFS pools that now exist on the the new storage array so that I don't have to mirror and then remove the disks from the pool and pretty much wipeout all of the sync work I've already done with the EMC software?
    Hopefully this makes sense, but please let me know if I need to explain further.

    No issue, works as expected, I just didn't split the synchronization between the old and new devices, so the new disks were still write disabled in EMC land. Once I split the sync, everything imported without a hitch, so it was my stupid mistake.

  • H/W & Data migration form AS 400/DB2 V5 R4 to Unix/Linux and Oracle

    We are considering migration of huge data(in Terabytes) from AS 400/DB2 V5 R4 to Unix/Linux and Oracle.
    We are changing operating system and data base also..Please advise if R98403 can be used to move data in terabytes.
    I understand Oracle work bench does not support V5 R4.
    I would like to know pointers on possible tools and approach for the migration.

    Hi,
    May I know the reason for this huge change? As most of the current setups of E1 are on AS00 only. Then also if you are planning to migrate your hardware and data from DB2/OS400 to Orcle and Unix/Linux you can consider below options for data migration:
    1) R98403 and R98403A are best approach for this type of migration it may consule some extra time but accurate..! As no other tools like Oracle Workbench can
    provide 100% accuracy.
    2) Archive data size if possible with the help of BA team and work on some purging this will help you to great level.
    3) If you decide to go live on new setup please consider going live module wise as a specific module data can be moved fast, and if BA team can specify some specific tables only getting hit for module trasection they can develop TC reports for specific data to be migrated and can save your time instead of copying entire data set again at go live.

    I used the migrator utility to transfer itunes and photos from my old PC to my new Mac and ended up with 2 accounts on my new computer. How do I transfer the music and photos and only have the 1 account on the new Mac ?

    That's not easy.  The Windows migration tool makes a new user account, and you can't prevent it.
    You may be able to transfer what you want manually, but it's not quick or easy.  See Transferring files from one User Account to another.
