Migrate cognos cubes to essbase

Hi,
Does anyone know the steps to migrate Cognos cubes to Essbase 11? I've no idea where to start from other than doing it manually from scratch, like building the outline & loading data.
Can we export metadata & data from Cognos in a format which can be loaded to Essbase w/o much tedious manual task?
Any suggestions?

How do you compute complex calculation in cognos.can we do scripting in cognos as we do it is essbase using calculation scripts.

How can a security be migrated from cognos to essbase.
Have you used any third party tools for migration.
What is "report matrix " I don't have idea about cognos.

Using or migrating Cognos Powerplay Cubes in/to Oracle OBIEE V 11.1.1

Hello,
is it possible somehow to use cognos cubes (used in Cognos Powerplay) in OBIEE out of the box? Or with some tricks?
If not, is it possible somehow to do a elegant migration, without starting from the scratch?
Any ideas or good links, informations about this topic?

Hi Tina,
I unzipped the install file to the root drive i.e. (C:\bishiphome in my case or D:\bishiphome in your case). Some of the folder structure for SampleAppLite goes pretty deep, and I'm wondering since you've got the install folder nested in some folders, it might start hitting Windows file path limit.
I know for a fact, when I installed 11g to C:\app\oracle\product\obiee11\<obiee11>, when it came time to uninstall, I couldn't delete the SampleAppLite files because their file path's were so long. From then on, I just installed it to the root directory to avoid problems.

Unable to load data into Essbase cube using Essbase Studio

Hi
We are creating an essbase cube using Essbase Studio using flat files as data sources.
We have taken different hierarchies into different flat files and created one fact file having dimension intersection along with data.
We are able to create the cube and the hierarchy but not able to load any data.
We are getting the following error
Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Unable to perform dataload from more than one flat file.
Could anyone please help on this?

Oh this was killing me, so I did this test in 11.1.1.3:
1) Excel 2007 format -- no go, Essbase didn't see it
2) Excel 2003 format, three sheets -- only the first sheet was read into an empty rule
3) Excel 2003 format, one sheet -- the first sheet was read into an empty rule
4) Excel 95 format, one sheet -- the first sheet was read into an empty rule
The lesson?
1) Excel 2007/2010 sheets don't work (no surprise there as the .xlsx format isn't supported).
2) Excel 2003 and lower (hey, if you have Excel 4, I'll bet that works as well) work, but only the first sheet is recognized.

Error in deploying the cubes in Essbase Studio

I am getting below error when I try to depoly ASO cubes in Essbase Studio.

***Caused By: Error when retrieving data from SQL source***

***Caused By: [Hyperion][DB2 JDBC Driver]SQLDIAGGRP was specified and not null.***
I also checked the error log generated in the applications asking to increase the NETDELAY and NETRETRY COUNTS in ESSBASE.CFG, the config file. I made those changes, restarted the services and deployed again but in vain.

There have been a number of MaxL bugs with encryption that produce 'Parse error near...' messages. If you login to Oracle Support and search the Knowledge Base on 'Parse error near' you will find them. I can't see anything specifically relating to 11.1.2.1 or a known defect in the release notes... ...I'd get a support ticket raised, if you haven't already.
You don't mention platform, but I've also run into a bug running 'deploy' in 11.1.2.1 on a 64-bit Windows environment and there was a Unix bug too, but they both caused crashes so probably aren't your problem.

Could anyone tell me what am I doing wrong and how to fix this? I have changed my account to be an administrator in Essbase (I also have selected ALL available rights in Shared Services), but still without any success.

You could increase the number of connections windows can create, it means updating the registry and rebooting.

Bex Query Designer running against a Cognos Cube

Hi
Is it possible to run Bex Query Designer against a Cognos cube ? I know you can do it the other way around - run Cognos against a BW cube. But I can't find anything on creating Bex Query on a Cognos cube.

I think that's not possible. I've never seen that, there is no information about it anywhere.
But, why would you like to connect BEx to another tool? As you said, you can connect Cognos to BW (as well as Microstrategy, Business Objects and ohters). And this is because all these tools are better in front end desing (even after BI7, i think BEx reporting tools are awful).

I'm using Essbase studio11 and trying to deploy my cube into essbase using the deployment wizard. But I keep getting this error:

No direct one for the time being. You can't import Cognos metadata into the rpd like you would for Essabse or MS Analysis Services.

Cube Deployment Essbase Studio maxl

Hi,
I created an Essbase Cube with Essbase Studio. Everything works fine.
Now I want to schedule the cube deployment (build the outline and load data). I tried to use the maxl deploy statement like it is explained it the Essbase Technical Reference.
I used the following statement to delete the database and to build the outline:
deploy outline from model MyModelName with option delete_database login admin identified by password on host localhost;
But all I got is this error messages: "BPM error: Parse error near ;"
The syntax of my statement should be the same as in the documentation... but I think there missing some points like application name and database name?!?

Restoring Cube in Essbase Fusion

I have a problem in restoring my Cube in Essbase Administration Services, it says " database need to be unload before performing restore. please unload the database and try again."
how do I unload my database?

Unload means you must stop the application.
Read Admin Userguide (7x version at least) pages 715 & 717.
here's some info:
When you stop an application, Analytic Services unloads all information and databases from memory on Analytic Server and closes the application server process.
STOP appname Stops the specified application. ● MaxL: alter system unload application appname;
● ESSCMD: UNLOADAPP
● Administration Services: Right-click menu off
application node in Enterprise View

Voyager connections to Cognos Cubes

Hi All,
Can anyone please give me some info on the following:
1) Can we connect to Cognos Cubes through Voyager? If yes what is the procedure? Do we need to have any additional Addin's or installations?
2) Can we create a Universe directly connecting to an existing Cognos Cube just as we do with SAP BI Cubes?
Any answers on this will be really helpful.

We cannot connect to Cognos cubes using Voyager. Voyager doesnu2019t support Cognos cubes.
I am not sure if we can create universe directly connecting to an existing Cognos Cube as there is no option in it for us to do it.
