Migrate data to new storage

i have some solaris system connect to a old storage, now i plan to migrate all data to a new storage. is there any solaris command to do this? if there's no LVM installed on my solaris, how to do this migration?

Are able to create some mirror, it's simple with zfs or svm ?
What is the solaris version do you use ?

  • Windows 2008 R2 Cluster - migrating data to new SAN storage - Detailed Steps?

We have a project where some network storage is falling out of warranty and we need to move the data to new storage.  I have found separate guides for moving the quorum and replacing individual drives, but I can't find an all inclusive detailed step
by step for this process, and I know this has to happen all the time.
What I am looking for is detailed instructions on moving all the data from their current san storage to new san storage, start to finish.  All server side, there is a separate storage team that will present the new storage.  I'll then have to install
the multi-pathing driver; then I am looking for a guide that picks up at this point.
The real concern here is that this machine controls a critical production process and we don't have a proper set up with storage and everything to test with, so it's going to be a little nerve racking.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I would ask Hitachi.  As I said, the SAN vendors often have tools to assist in this sort of thing.  After all, in order to make the sale they often have to show how to move the data with the least amount of impact to the environment.  In fact,
I would have thought that inclusion of this type of information would have been a requirement for the purchase of the SAN in the first place.
Within the Microsoft environment, you are going to deal with generic tools.  And using generic tools the steps will be similar to what I said.
    1. Attach storage array to cluster and configure storage.
    2. Use robocopy or Windows Server Backup for file transfer.  Use database backup/recovery for databases.
    3. Start with applications that can take multiple interruptions as you learn what works for your environment.
Every environment is going to be different.  To get into much more detail would require an analysis of what you are using the cluster for (which you never state in either of your posts), what sort of outages you can operate with, what sort of recovery
plan you will put in place, etc.  You have stated that your production environment is going to be your lab because you do not have a non-production environment in which to test it.  That makes it even trickier to try to offer any sort of detailed
    steps for unknown applications/sizing/timeframes/etc.
Lastly, the absolute best practice would be to build a new Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster and migrate to a new cluster.  Windows Server 2008 R2 is already out of mainstream support. That means that you have only five more years of support on your
current platform, at which point in time you will have to perform another massive upgrade.  Better to perform a single upgrade that gives you a lot more length of support.

  • Migrate data into new DB?

    Hi there,
Is there a way to start with a completely new/clean ZEN 6.5 Inventory database,
and then import/migrate data into it using copies of an older ZEN 6.5 Inventory
    database?
    Thanks,
    Eric

I thought maybe starting with a clean db and then importing/migrating the data
would help with some strange Sybase ASA db server errors. I cannot find these
    errors documented anywhere on Novell.
Duplicate index "i$CustomValue#" for table "t$CustomValue"
Duplicate index "i$logdevice$deviceid" for table "t$LogicalDevice"
No unique index or primary key for table "diskusage"
I've already tried running sybindex to no avail.

  • Migrate zpools to new storage array

I am in the process of migrating to a new EMC storage array. I used EMC SRDF to copy all tracks from the current disks to the new disks, so that all new disks look identical except for the actual device path since the WWN is different on the new array. I was hoping I could simply unmask/unmap the old SAN, mask and map the new SAN, and ZFS would be able to import the pools from the new SAN (like you can with veritas), but I didn't take into consideration that the device paths/names would be different and ZFS wouldn't like it. Is there any way to get solaris to see the new ZFS pools that now exist on the the new storage array so that I don't have to mirror and then remove the disks from the pool and pretty much wipeout all of the sync work I've already done with the EMC software?
Hopefully this makes sense, but please let me know if I need to explain further.

No issue, works as expected, I just didn't split the synchronization between the old and new devices, so the new disks were still write disabled in EMC land. Once I split the sync, everything imported without a hitch, so it was my stupid mistake.

  • Migrating Data to New iMac

I am unable to migrate data andsettings from my old iBook G4 to m new iMac.
I am using Migration Assistant. The iBook restarts in target disk mode without problem.
The iMac, however, doesn't seem to recognize the iBook as a mounted disk. Migration Assistant on the iMac has the "Continue" button on the "Restart Your Old Mac" window grayed out.
    Both computers are running 10.4.10.
All cables except the firewire and the iMac keyboard are disconnected from the computers.
I've tried restarting the iMac after the iBook goes into target disk mode but still encounter the same problem.
Since the iBook goes into target disk mode without problem, this doesn't seem like an "Open Firmware Password" proble.
I've read articles 58583 and 2333 but didn't find anything there to explain or solve the problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I signed up for the 60 day free trial of .mac and synched my address book/mail/calendar settings and my Safari bookmark through that. Mail still has to go through the process of "learning" what is junk mail, but other than that everything came across fine. After you sign up for .mac, go to System Preferences on your OLD computer and pick .mac in the Internet/Network pane. When that comes up the second choice in the bar across the top is SYNC. Go there and pick addresses, bookmarks... whatever. Click sync and your info goes out onto their servers in the sky. Next log into .mac on you NEW computer and go to System Preferences and sync the same selections in .mac there. The info should pass on to your new computer.
It's been long enough since I did this that I may be leaving out a minor detail but it was really easy and pretty fool-proof. I think it asked me which direction I wanted to save information so that I didn't accidentally wipe out my OLD computer with the blank data from the NEW computer.
I hope this works for you!

  • Migrate data to new folder structure

I need to migrate a lot of data to a new folder structure, one of the things I will have to deal with is file paths which are too long.
To copy the data I have made a powershell script which uses robocopy to copy all data.
Of course I do not want to have disruption in this process (or the least disruption possible), what can I do to prevent issues with long file paths ?
Is there an easy way to modify my script and detect issues with long file paths ?
What would be the way to go preventing many copy errors during the robocopy action and fix possible issues before starting ?

There are utilities out that (free / not free) that you can run and it will give you a report on which folders are too long.  What I did was, I would take the results in the report and email it to an admin assistant or some type of key person in each
department, and they would fix the problem.  Once I had them all done, then I would do the migration.

  • How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor

I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro.  I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk.  My problem is, I have only 1 monitor.  Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?

If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the  monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.

  • Ideas for migrating data to new iMac from faulty eMac?

My wife's old eMac died, but she was able to copy her user folder (all 58+ GBs) to an external drive prior to it finally giving up the ghost. It was copied via finder (not cloned or done via Time Machine), so it doesn't appear to have permissions set (i.e., I can mount the disk on another computer and access all her files).
She needed her new iMac set up right away to finish some work, so only a few files have been transfered.
I don't know if Migration Assistant can deal with the files, but I'd rather not migrate her stuff at this point. Migration Assistant isn't particularly granular (i.e., you can't choose which apps or which email to transfer - it's all or nothing). I'd rather access her home folder (as the user) to clean out her files (i.e., email, downloads, iTunes, iPhoto, etc.) prior to migrating them to her new computer. At a minimum, I want to log into her old account to backup her contacts to transfer over (or access them some other way).
Can I set up a user account for her on another computer (same name and pw), go into the advanced accounts settings and point to her folder on the external drive, and then log into her account? Or do I need to do some terminal work?
I believe the HDD was corrupted by the HW failure, but if Target Disk Mode is preferable for what I want to do, then it might be worth some troubleshooting on the eMac to get Target Disk working.

  • Migrate data to new dual drive setup

I am adding a second hard drive to my Mac (Mavericks) but am not sure of the best way to go about moving the data across. The new drive is a SSD and the old one is a HDD so I want to move the OS and most other things (excluding music, photos, movies) to the new drive. Is the best way to do this to just restore from a Time Machine backup? Can I somehow restore a TM backup to an empty drive or do I first have to install Mavericks on the new SSD? I was thinking of booting into the Recovery partition of my HDD and using the "Restore from a TM backup" feature on there but can that restore it to the SSD or does that only apply to the HDD (of which the recovery partition is a member of)?
On that recovery partition there is also an "Install a copy of Mavericks" option. If I use that to install Mavericks on the SSD, is that in any way different to downloading the installer from the app store and using that? I think I remember something about the old versions of OSX installing slightly differently depending on how it was done, ie pre-installed vs retail DVD vs included install DVD...
    Any suggestions?

You can buy an enclosure and put the old hard drive in it. Then, you can start up the computer from this hard drive and use Disk Utility's Restore feature to restore the hard drive content onto your new one > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html
You may have to format the new hard drive first. You can do it in Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Remember to format your new hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and with the GUID partition table

  • Trouble migrating data to new macbook

I'm on a G5 dual-processor running 10.4.6. I've gone through the migration assistant and after restarting the G5 holding down the "T" key, I get the correct symbol, but no data is trasferred. Assuming that my firmware might need updating, I went to the page for firmware updates, but the links to those updates seem to take me to a page no longer in existence. Do I need an update and, if so, where do I get one???
    thanks

This page lists appropriate firmware updates: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117. There's no indication of what you're trying to mount in target disk mode; another computer? More details on what you're actually doing, etc. would be helpful.

  • Please help  ! Can I cut-off New G/L migration date during fiscal year ?

    Dear Experts
I know that the principles of migration date of New G/L migration should be on first day of fiscal year and Year-end closing of the old fiscal year must be complete before New General Ledger Accounting is activated.
However, if I need, can I cut-off new G/L migration date during fiscal year before year-end closing ? And Which points should be concern.
    Best regards,
    Suphawat

    Hi,
First you should have installed the cockpit., you should have completed the testing and migrated the transports before the end of the Fiscal year which is 31st March in your case.  Depending on the scenario, this will take 20 - 40 days.
You can begin the migration once your year end activity is performed.
If you have not installed the cockpit and completed the configuration and tested it.. forget it for this year, do it next year.
    Hope this is clear now.

    Hi,
There is indeed a migration program to transfer the G/L accounts data to SAP. You can use LSMW tool to migrate the data.
    Program Name: RFBIBL00
Program Type : D (Direct Input)
    Object : 0100

  • DPM 2010; migrated DPM protection group to new storage pool ; data on source disk is not expiring

I am running DPM 2010 with 4 storage pool disks. 2 are iSCSI; 1 is SAS; the fourth, also iSCSI, was recently deployed to replace the SAS storage pool disk.
    (1) iSCSI
    (2) iSCSI
    (3) SAS - Source
    (4) iSCSI - Destination
Initially we tried to migrate the entire data source (3) to the new iSCSI storage pool disk destination (4). This failed
Set-ProtectionGroup: The allocation of disk space for storage pool volume failed because there is not enough unallocated disk space in the storage pool (ID: 358). (Sorry, I was not allowed to attach an image).
We believe the source disk previously created dynamic links to the long-term retention device (tape) which resulted in exceeding the available space on the new destination iSCSI storage pool disk. The source storage pool disk was totaling ~2.5TB, but needed
    ~9TB for the destination.
Instead I've tried to migrate the DPM protection group. The migration was successful. I followed the procedure outlined here
"Microsoft DPM 2012 Sp1 – How To Migrate Data Source using MigrateDatasourceDataFromDPM by ICTtechie" (Sorry, I was not allowed to include a link).
My understanding / expectation was that the data on the source disk would expire within 5 days (as this is our retention time set for disk replication); instead data started to expire from the other 2 iSCSI (1), (2) storage pool disks.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks

  • Migrating data to a "new" setup, questions

    Hi fellow Archers,
    This is my current setup:
Atom+ION board with 3 SATA ports + 1 PCI card with 2 SATA ports.
    Storage:
    2x 2TB
    1x 1.5TB
    1x 1TB
They are all part of the same vg:
    [root@ion ~]# vgdisplay

    System ID
    Format lvm2
    Metadata Areas 4

    Free PE / Size 0 / 0
    VG UUID E15rQM-mRJc-OLJH-C3Jo-NL6Y-g2ZQ-MP7PSz
I now have a new mainboard and a SATA controller card (PCI-E 1x) coming, with two new 2TB drives. Also a cheap small SSD on the way for the OS.
What I want to do: Migrate all data to a new RAID5 array consisting of 4x 2TB drives.
Is this possible without losing any data?
    Thanks!

    Shameless self-reply-bump;
I now have the new parts except the controller. When I get that I'm going to set up the new system, trying to migrate away all data off one 2TB drive so I can pull it out of the lvm volume group.
Then I can create a new RAID5 array with 2 new and 1 old 2TB drives and start moving the data to that one. When that's done, I'll move the other 2TB drive that was in the volume group, to the RAID5 array. That way I should end up with 4 2TB HDDs in RAID5.
I need to do some research first on what stripe size to use, filesystem, etc, as well as if it's best to have the HDDs on the controller (PCI-E 1x) or on the onboard SATA controller (which should be faster since it's not bottlenecked by the PCI-E 1x bus).
    Thanks
Edit: New system installed, data migration ongoing. Managed to borrow a 2TB drive off a friend, migrated data to that so I could take one old 2TB out of the lvm, thus giving me 3 unused 2TB HDDs, on which I created a RAID5 array. Currently migrating data to it while it's initializing the parity etc...

sata_mv: For data safety, do not use sectors 8-9 on "Legacy" drives, and avoid the final two gigabytes on all RocketRAID BIOS initialized drives.
That was the culprit! I shrunk the device usage per partition like so:
    Avail Dev Size : 3907025072 (1863.01 GiB 2000.40 GB)
    Array Size : 11702108160 (5580.00 GiB 5991.48 GB)
    Used Dev Size : 3900702720 (1860.00 GiB 1997.16 GB)
So it's using 1860 out of 1863 or so GB per partition, that way I should be safe corruption wise. It would be best to shrink the actual partitions (sd[b,c,d,g]1), but I don't know how to do that without messing everything up.
