Migrate Database 8i to 10g on diferrent server

Hello,
I want to migrate a database 8i to 10g R2
The version of database is: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.1 on windows 2000 SP 4, 32 bits.
The new server has the next features:
Windows 2003 lastest SP, 32 bits.
Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.5.
I checked a note 316889.1 Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 10gR2. The note mentioned all steps to realize a complete upgrade on the same server same operating system.
I will make a cold backup of my actual database, and I will restore the datafiles into the new server.
My question is Is there any problem whith headers of datafile because I'm using different operating systems. Or I need to use some techniques to migrate the database across platform before making the upgrade.
Regards

You should be able to copy over all the database related files to the new server and perform a manual upgrade. Export/import is also another option, assuming the database is relatively small and you can afford the downtime.
Pl be aware that 10gR2 is also out of Premier Support - you should be upgrading to 11gR2.

  • DB migration from 9i to 10g (in a new server) using a cold backup

    We have a cold backup of a 9.2.0.5 database,
    we would like to migrate this 9i DB to a new server with only 10g software already installed.
    1- can we use DBUA to do the migration?
    2- should we start the database before running DBUA?
    3- if yes then we need to prepare the pfile, and the password file?
    we would like to avoid installing 9i in the new server
    Thanks for help

    I have to Install 10g on Solaris 10 on a new server and then move my old >database which is 9i on Solaris 9 to the new box. I'm not sure how to go about >doing all this right since I'm new in the dba field and this is production.How much down time you have to perform this activity?
    How big is your database?
    Since you're moving the database from one server to another, You have to proceed with Export/import or datapump export/import(only if you can upgrade your 9i database to 10g).

  • Migrate Oracle 9i Database to Oracle 10g Solaris Platform

    Hi DBAs,
    Thank you very much all of you, you helped me in RMAN Duplicate Database, There was a problem in my backupset and now it has been resolved.
    I have now following task.
    I want to migrate Oracle 9i Database to Oracle 10g ASM, both are on Solaris platform. Please provide me step by step solution. I have very big Database about 250G Database.

    In the "Complete checklist for manual upgrades to 10gR2" is written:
    PREREQUISITES
    =============
    + Install Oracle 10g Release 2 in a new Oracle Home.
    + Install the latest available patchset from Metalink.
    + Install the latest available Critical Patch Update.
    ... so "Install the latest available Critical Patch Update" step is that for the Oracle 10g database Oracle Home or Oracle 9i database Oracle Home ? I think that is for the 10g database/ Oracle Home ...
    after applying the CPU pacht there is some "Post Installation Instructions":
    3.3.5 Post Installation Instructions which demande a connection to the database:
    3. For each database instance running out of the ORACLE_HOME being patched, connect to the database using SQL*Plus as SYSDBA and run catcpu.sql as follows:
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\CPU\CPUJan2007
    sqlplus /nolog SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    SQL> STARTUP
    SQL> @catcpu.sql
    SQL> QUIT
    My question is ... If I want to upgrade a 9i database to 10g and I apply this CPU before the upgrade is done (to 10g Oracle Home), how could I connect to an instance which is not present to run this script ? ... is this step mandatory or is optional ?
    Thanks,
    P.

    1.By using DBUA
    2.By using PL/SQL scripts provided by oracle like utlu102i.sql
    3. Using exp/imp utilities

  • Migrating with RMAN from 10g to 11g

    Hi gurus,
    I am following the following procedure to migrate database from 10g to 11g using rman
    Source side:
    RMAN>connect target
    RMAN>backup database;
    RMAN>backup archivelog all;
    RMAN>backup current controlfile;
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;
    Copied datafile, archivelog backup files and pfile and password files to target side. i.e. on 11g server side
    Target side:
    Set proper parameters for 11g
    SQL>startup nomount;
    RMAN>connect target
    RMAN>set dbid=<source database id>
    RMAN>catalog start with '<rman backup file location';
    RMAN>restore controlfile;
    RMAN>run
    set newname for datafile 1 to '<target datafiles location with file name';
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;
    finished
    upto now it's success full when i am trying to recover
    RMAN>recover database;
    it is saying
    rman 00571
    rman 00569
    rman 00571
    rman 03002
    ora - 19698
    can you please suggest the solution for this.
    thanks a lot.

    I'm not sure what you're doing is supported.
    You are taking a 10g database and restore and recover it using 11g software.
    I think you are allowed to do that with 10g software only.

  • Creating and Using View Objects on JDev 10g against SQL Server 2005

    I'm currently working on this project on Jdeveloper against a SQL Server 2005 DB (I couldn't talk this people to migrate to Oracle... :-( ), and it's the first time I work with JDev against a database other than 10g.
    I had no problem making the connection, and I can see the DB in Conections->Databases, but when I create an app. module, and create entities and views and add them to the app. module to access them through the Data Controls, these don't work. I can see the view on the Data Controls, and when I drag them to my jspx page it shows the menu that let's me choose whether I want to create a table, or a selection, or a tree, but once I choose one, it does nothing.
    I've search all over the internet and haven't found a solution, so I come to this forum desperate for help, seriously.
    Please get in touch; if anyone knows another solution that doesn't involve not using JDev or SQL Server 2005, please let me know, because I basically need to have a few selectonechoice showing some data from a few tables.
    Thanks for reading this post, and hope to get help.
    Carlos.

    Hi,
    can you run the model in the ADF BC tester ? If this is possible the SQL Server doesn't seem to be the problem. Are you on JDeveloper 10.1.3.3? If not, just get this latest build

  • Migration the db portion only to different server

    Gurus,
    Current configuration of EBiz application is
    AIX 5.3 - Apps (11.5.10) + db (10.2.0.4) on the same server. The plan is to delink the database from the existing AIX server and migrate to different hardware so that database can be on a different server and apps can continue on the same server.
    One of my friends suggested me to move the concurrent manager portion also to the db server (New server).
    Does anyone buy that idea?

    i Just had discussion with one of colleague,i believe you can archive it, but you can't use shared applications option, if you use diffrent os, we have setup that discoverer running on HP Unix and EBS 11i in Linux, I am not sure about diffrent OS for EBS configuration, what is current OS and what is new OS.

  • Doubts on Migrated Database.

    Hi all,
    I have just migrated the sql server 2005 database to Oracle 10g R2. Unfortunately after the migration has completed and I found there were around 50% of the stored procedures had some compilation problems. When I went through the compilation error I found that most of the problems were a result of certain tables have not been migrated (may be around 3% out of 600 tables).
    But I am not quite sure of how could I capture specific tables and convert them to Oracle. If any one has a better way of solving the problem it would be much appreciated.
    Guys I am not sure whether I have posted my doubt in the correct category. So please do bare with me a provide me a solution...
    Thanx in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Asif Muahmmad.

    Hi,
    You sure that compilation error is because of table not being migrated and not because there may be difference in the way procedure is written in sql server and oracle server.
    If yes,
    Then you can use below query to find all the objects/tables that are being referred in your Oracle server but is not present
    select referenced_owner, referenced_name, referenced_type from dba_dependencies where
          (referenced_owner, referenced_name, referenced_type )
             not in (select owner, object_name, object_type from dba_objects)and owner in ('LIst of all the schema of Oracle which has been migrated') ;Regards
    Anurag
    PS: I am assuming you are not using dynamic sql as you have recently migrated from SQL to Oracle.

  • Can i create a standby database in oracle 10g standared edition ?

    what are the steps required for creating a standby database using oracle 10g standard edition. or Any other feature for mirroring database in oracle 10g standared edition

    Dear mithun,
    Please read the following online documentation;
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/standby.htm
    +"+
    +2.3.2 Oracle Software Requirements+
    +The following list describes Oracle software requirements for using Data Guard:+
    +* Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition. This means the same release of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition must be installed on the primary database and all standby databases in a Data Guard configuration.+
    +Note:+
    +It is possible to simulate a standby database environment with databases running Oracle Database Standard Edition. You can do this by manually transferring archived redo log files using an operating system copy utility or using custom scripts that periodically send archived redo log files from one database to the other. The consequence is that this configuration does not provide the ease-of-use, manageability, performance, and disaster-recovery capabilities available with Data Guard.+

    Hope That Helps.

  • How do l create a new database in Oracle 10g Express

    How do l create a new database in Oracle 10g Express, other than the one that is created on installation?

    Hello,
    You cannot create a second XE database on the same server.
    But, Oracle database can support as many Schema as you want.
    "Oracle database" is like "SQL Server Instance" and "Oracle Schema" is like "SQL Server database". I means by this shortcut that for
    the end users accessing to different Schemas looks like accessing to different databases.
    You can have several applications on the same database. Each application has its own Schema and Datafile (Tablespace) structure.
    So on your XE database you can add a new Tablespace and create a new User/Schema as follows:
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
    create tablespace {color:red}new_tablespace_name{color}
    extent management local autoallocate
    SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
    datafile '{color:red}complete_datafile_name{color}' size 100M autoextend on next 10M maxsize unlimited;
    create user {color:red}new_schema_name{color} identified by {color:red}password{color}
    default tablespace {color:red}new_tablespace_name{color}
    temporary tablespace TEMP
    quota unlimited on {color:red}new_tablespace_name{color}
    grant connect, resource to {color:red}new_schema_name{color};Then you can connect to this new User/Schema as you defined it and create your new structure and load datas.
    Hope it can help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin
