Migrate from Kerio E-mail to OS 10.4

Hi All,
Does anyone have a good manual or know how to move FROM Kerio e-mail to MAC OS Server 10.4 ?
This is my first time attempting this and would be very helpful.
Thank you!

Kerio is a mail server and not a client program, isn't it? If you're trying to migrate a server from one to the other, you may have more success getting this question answered over in the Tiger Server Mail Services forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=711 or in the Tiger Server Setup, Install, and Migration forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=703

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail - can't import Notes

Hello, I am migrating from MS Entourage 2008 to Apple's Mail. I have imported the mailboxes and my accounts and contacts without problem, but not my 500 Notes. I've exported them for Entourage in many ways but can't import them in Mail.
When I drag the notes to the desktop they are stored as [Title].ics and those files can't be imported into Mail.
Please I need some help here as I have around 500 notes to bring with me.
    Thanks

Well because Entourage use a single central database and Mail uses the standard UNIX separate folders method.
Also maybe Apple Discussion thread might help.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail

I want to move my E-Mail from Entourage to Mail. I'm using a new MacBook Pro with 10.6.1and wondered if there were any tips I need before I start the process.
I'm intending to use the "File/Import Mailboxes" function in Mail
Also - I have a lot of subfolders which will also need transferring to Mail and am a little scared of messing up the process and losing important messages.
Any advice before I make the transfer will be gratefully received.
    Thanks

I had nothing but problems with it.
I got a roughly 15 GB mail database (roughly 100.000 messages) which I am trying to import from Entourage to Mail using 10.6.1. None of my folders with more than roughly 2500 - 3000 messages in them could have been taken over. None of them. When the import reaches somewhere more than 2000 messages in the actual folder, the import stops and just results all the rest of the folders left empty.

  • Migrate from entourage to mail keeping folders

does anyone know if this is possible and how i would go about it? the user has about 100+ folders and 3GB of msgs, so manually is out of the question.
i know i did this once before but cannot remember how i did it.
    thx!
new imac   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

I had no problem importing my mail and mailboxes from EntourageX to Mail version 1 (Panther). All the mailboxes were there under Import along with my mail.
I am here today (and have been for days) because Mail version 2 (Tiger) is a extraordinary problem and bringing the mail out from the Import folder even in Mail v1 was a problem.
Whatever you do - BACK UP.
Backing up EntourageX is a mess too, if I wrote the mail file to DVD it would not read nor would it copy. Has to be back up to a live drive.
At this point, I would be very happy to get my mail OUT of Apple Mail version 2 and into Thunderbird. From my days of research I am finding that Apple Mail version 2 (Tiger) is just a complete mess. Abandoning the universal Mbox format (it still says Mbox but its really broken into emlx files for spotlight in version 2)
EntourageX fails at around 2GB (or was it 4)- so you are right to get out of there, but after what I have been through- and still am going through because my mail is GONE and rebuild just loses more, and those support pages on apple.com are down and no one has been able to answer any of my questions posted here- I would say DONT move to Apple Mail version 2 Tiger.
    Good luck

  • Migration from Windows Live mail to Mac mail

    Hello Friends,
Please try and help me out as need a solution desperatly.
At present, I am using Windows live mail and intend to move from Microsoft to Mac. I have got many emails on my server host which would be easy to migrate as per the normal procedure. But I have archived most of my emails. I have created few additional folders and moved the emails from the server inbox to these respective folders. But those has been saved on the hard drive of the computer and not on the server.
I have been using windows live mail for 2 yrs and have got a lot of emails in these archived folders and is very systematic. I tried speaking to Apple guys at their outlets but never got a comcrete answer for the migration where by these folders will remain as it is and wont get jumbled. One of their staff said, it is not possible as emails will get under one folder and wont be as what is intially but as a result I will lose all the hard work.
I am trying to give as much information so I can get a solution to it. I even tried to speak to the server host but they said I have to create individual folders and mose th foldres again which is a very tedious process.
    Kindly get me a solution.

    Hello,
    Many thanks for the reply.
I am using Windows Live mail on my Microsoft pc. And Mac air will be latest so i think it is Mac mail.
I am only more concerned of my saved folders and its email contenets. Someone said I need to transfer it back to my server and then if I migrate all of it will get transferred. Is it correct or some other solution.

  • Migrating from Outlook to Mail

    Hi all,
I purchased my iMac several months ago after years of Windows experience. As a trial of course, but now I am so happy with it that my once beloved Dell notebook running XP seems to have lost it's glory completely.
So I will be going for a nice new MacBook Pro as my personal friend. It will probably arrive within a couple of weeks. I will have to migrate all my personal stuff to the new Mac. Which brings me to my question...
How can I move my e-mail history from Outlook 2007 into Mail. I checked the import options in Mail, but have not found a solution.
    Any suggestion is very welcome.
    Kind regards, Hans.

    Hi Rich,
I've been a faithful Windows user for many years. A couple of months ago I bought an Imac just because I liked the design so much. Also some friends were very enthusiastic about their Mac. Since then I have bought my 2 daughters each a Macbook (I am no longer bothered by them because their computer is failing again and have ordered my new MacBook Pro which will replace my business computer in a couple of weeks. Don't hesitate! Just make sure that you order VMware fusion at the same time, so that your Mac can support your current Windows applications if necessary.
As far as your question is concerned. Yes, O2M works flawlessly. Just make sure that your pst.file is opened in Outlook's navigation pane. Itr will automatically recognise all available pst's and will ask you which one's should be imported. You will also be able to choose per pst whether to import mail, contacts, agenda items, or a combination of those.
    Good luck, HANS

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.
    *_iCal question_*
How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?
    *_Address Book_*
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    *_Address Book question_*
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    *_Mail question_*
Any clues as to how to do that?
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.
    Dominique =)
PS: sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I was not sure where I could put it.

sorry - wrong place to ask.

After you sync with Address Book, and you uncheck the Sync in Entourage, they will not be deleted from Address Book.
For email, open Apple Mail, File Menu, Import Mailboxes..., then choose Entourage.
Or you can drag each folder from Entourage onto your drive, which makes a ".mbox" file which is compatible with many different mail programs. You can import those into Apple Mail (or into Thunderbird, or into Outlook Express, etc.).
You can also use a Gmail account, using IMAP (not POP), and drag'n'drop the emails from Entourage into that, then connect to it from Apple Mail and have them back.
Killing off Entourage is harder. Assuming you don't want to uninstall Office, you'll at least need to go to System Prefs, Accounts, and delete the Login Item for the Microsoft Database. I'm not sure what other steps may be necessary.

  • Migration from 10.4 Mail to 10.6 Mail from a backup copy of the home folder

    Hey all.
I am having problem reconstructing the contents of Mail.
The old mail had a few mailboxes/folders with emails sorted into them.
I read in some threads that copying the ~/lybrary/mail folder and the com.apple.mail.plist would rebuild the old contents... is it possible that this solution isn't working because of structural differences between 10.4 and 10.6?
    - Is there a way to at least salvage the mail messages?
    Thanks for your time.

    Message was edited by: Darthen

Hmmm...I did everything that you suggested, and everything seemed to go smoothly...until I attempted to open the mail in the imported mailboxes: In each Apple Mail imported mailbox, the email headers are visible, but there is no content in the email messages; and the POP account imported mail had both headers and content, but only the first 4 of 8 years of emails were imported.
I looked into the /Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes folder, and found that each named mailbox had two versions: one with a folder icon named exactly as named by the user, and one with an inbox icon named in format [mailbox name].mbox; the version with the folder icon is empty, whereas the version with the inbox icon has various items, including Info.plist and Messages; the Messages folder has all the email messages.
So if the Apple Mail import used the former versions, then it makes sense that there is no content (but the headers are present).
Do you know why this happened? And can you suggest a way to remedy it?
    Thanks!

  • Migration scenario from 3rd party mail server to GW12?

    Hi
We need to migrate from existing e-mail server (Axigen ) to GW12.
The main concern is how to do that as quickly as possible or step by step without disrupting mail traffic and users.
    Here is the situation:
In local network there is mentioned Axigen mail server serving aprox 70 users at single location.
Our official domain is hosted outside by Hosting provider where their mail server forwards all mail to our DDNS address where is ported to local mail server. Forwarding is performed discrete on user base. Each [email protected] is forwarded to [email protected]. where local server taking over.
This setting is harder to maintain because it is necessary to maintain users and aliases on outside server manually. However, this setting has some advantages. First of all, forwarding is happened immediately. If for some reason , local server is unreachable, outside server will keep on trying for two more days.
Second advantage is that we can use anti spam and virus blocking at the providers side.
Both functionality we could'nt achieve with simple global forwarding of all mail to local server.
This comment is digresion from main topic.
Outgoing mail is relayed by local server over our Internet Connection provider's SMPT host.
    Local mail is delivered locally.
We maintain local DNS server too.
Most users are using POP service, while IMAP is used by few only. All users are using Thunderbird so far.
All users in the future should use full GW capabilities with regular GW client, mobile clients and so on.
GW12 server is installed and up already. It is tested locally and tested for remote sending. So, only remote receiving is not tested yet, so neither correct domain is set yet.
Present users authentication is performed by Axigen server and LDAP connection to eDir. STARTTLS is used between clients and server.
Our plan is simple to change local DNS record point to new GW server, to change NAT/routing point to new server and set correct domain for the GW server.
We expect that this will be transparent for users while they will continue to use Thunderbird (certificate mismatch will be issued by first connection and first mail sending. But we plan to warn users in advance together with instructions what to do. My phone will ring that morning many times, I am sure). Few IMAP accounts we can prepare in advance by move mail manually to local folders and back to GW server later.
Latest step should be migrate users from Thunderbird to GW client. This need to be perfomed manually at each user seat. Each Thunderbird client need to be switched to IMAP and then mail need to move to GW server.
Here is concern about old mail volume. Many users have their old mail archived in local folders by years. Some of them has quite huge amount of archived mails with heavy attachments. However old mail can be moved gradually later.
So, this is our plan. Does anybody has any suggestion, comment or wish to point some problem we didn't aware of?
    Thank you.

most of this sounds good. With such heavy imap/pop usage, you MIGHT
want to consider installing a temporary dedicated gwia just for that
separate from the smtp handling gwia. But that might not be necessary at
all. 70 people isn't THAT much.

  • Migrating from messaging direct -- problem with read messages

    Folks,
We are migrating from messaging direct's mail server. What I am doing is tar'ing up a user's account, moving it to the new server and untar'ring it. I them use mboxutil to create the folders and then make the '00' directory and number the messages appropriate and move then in. Then I run reconstruct on the mailbox and it works great. The problem is that all the messages are now unread. How do I make them read again???
    keith

I had to do a similar migration from a different mail server. I migrated the messages to each user via IMAP, using a Perl script.
The Perl script would determine a few message states and set the IMAP flags appropriately.
I don't recall seeing anything in the docs about setting message states directly. However, in your case, it appears you already have the messages in seperate files. You could try loading via IMAP and setting the flags. I used the NetxAP perl module from CPAN. An alternative, there is an import utility for iMS2. I haven't used it, but you could convert the mail to UNIX mbox format and then load into iMS52.

  • Migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server

    Hi all,
I'm looking to migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server.  I work for a company with roughly 30 employees and they use exchange for mail, contacts and calendars.  We want to take full advantage of OSX Server and to completly get off of exchange.
What are the best ways to do this?  Are there any tools available to help this process?

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.

  • New iMac, migrated from macbook and now mail won't work. Tried re-installing operating system, still doesn't work. Can anyone help me to get mail working? thanks

I just bought a new iMac and I thought that it would be simple to migrate from my MacBook.
I have a time machine back-up so I decided to migrate using that. Everything seemed to instal pretty well with the exception of mail.  To begin with I had 2 mail icons, then I started to read some forums and checked that i had the one I wanted in the applications folder, deleted the other and then downloaded the new operating system.  Mail had to be force quit first and even when the download was complete Mail still wouldn't open or run. The only thing I can do is compose a new message, but I can't see my inbox at all.
It's really frustrating and I would love to know in a simple step by step guide how to get mail up and running with my existing migrated emails in it.
If anyone can give me some advice that would be great.
    thanks in advance.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard to new iMac running Mountain Lion

Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard time machine files to new iMac running Mountain Lion.  I can run connection doctor OK.  But the activity window is blank.   If you try to open message viewer window then mail program crashes.  Would really like to get my old emails back as the old imac is totally dead.  Thanks for any help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • SPAM rules on Inbox after migration from Exchange 2003 - GFI Mail Essentials

    Hello,
Few times ago, we had an Exchange 2003 server with mailboxes which were configured with "rulemgmt.exe" tool (from Microsoft ?) to manage users mailboxes and SPAM redirection in these mailboxes.
GFI MailEssentials (antispam) was installed on a mail relay and once a SPAM was detected, it was redirected in Inbox/SPAM folder on user mailbox thanks to the rule defined by "rulemgmt.exe".
Recently, we did a migration from Exchange 2003 to 2010. Unfortunately, "rulemgmt.exe" doesn't work anymore on Exchange 2010 and it's replaced by a "Transport Rule" which works fine but only to redirect SPAMs in Junk e-mail folder. However,
if I don't set up this transport rule, SPAM redirection still works from mailboxes which were created on Exchange 2003 and e-mails go to Inbox/SPAM as before... For new mailboxes on Exchange 2010, it doesn't work which is normal.
My question is: for old mailboxes from Exchange 2003, where are the SPAM redirection (Inbox/SPAM) information stored? I don't understand how SPAM can be redirected if the information is not stored in Exchange...
The aim is to use Junk E-mail folder with the Transport Rule at the end everywhere and to clean old rules used for Inbox/SPAM.
I contact GFI support but they couldn't help me.
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    DeltaSM

Those old mailboxes probably have old rules still set.  You can use the Outlook.exe /cleanrules switch to purge those old rules.  This would require that you create an outlook profile for each of those impacted mailboxes.
You can also look at using MFCMapi -
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2860406/en-us
When that is done, you might want to perform a Clean-MailboxDatabase and then look at the mailbox rules (get-inboxrule).  If that does not work for you, could be something else within the mailbox and as such, I would recommend working with MS to get
    more info.
