Migrate from Test to New Server - OBIEE

Hi,
I have been 'evaluating' OBIEE functinality on a small test server for some time, where I have done a large amount of work on both writing reports. developing dashboards, configuring user security and the necessary data architecture in the physical / business model and presentations layers in BI Adminstration.
My question is, what is the easiest way to port the solution as it stands to a different server, without needing to perform extensive rework?
Thanks for any advice,
Robert.

Lowest level: copy the RPD and web catalog over to the other server, adjust the NQSConfig.ini and instanceconfig.xml and off you go.
That's assuming you didn't change any web messages, add custom pictures or files, change the styles and/or skins, you're still pointing to the same data sources etc. etc.
You should have a look at one of Marks write-ups from a while back: http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/04/28/migration-obiee-projects-between-dev-and-prod-environments/
Cheers,
C.

  • Windows users doesn't work after migrating from old to new server!

We have done a complete re-install on our XServe with OD. We have about 10 Windows users, and after the installation all their settings and mail are gone. All the "normal" files are there though.
I'm not sure we have done it the right way though: We did a backup from the old server (a bootable copy with Super Duper), then we formatted and installed everything. We made new accounts (with different names if that's good to know) and copied the users home folders to the new location. The Mac clients seem to work good, but all the settings on the Windows clients are gone...
Is there an easier way to this? We still have the workable copy from the old installation. There seems to be some kind of export/import way to do this, but I haven't got a clue how to do that...
    Please help!

    davidh,
We didn't reintegrate smb.conf, but set the new server up just like the old one. We did however compare these files to see that the vital parts (netlogon, shares and so on, and of course basic settings) were correct.
We also copied the user files and profiles and made them identical on the new server, except for placing them under the new usernames.
Regarding the Local Settings folder, it doesn't exist on the old server, that's one of the weird things. We've checked the profile for a user on the client machine, and it is a roaming profile. That's why we're a bit puzzled as to why the login works and all files are there, but the user preferences and Outlook doesn't work.
I know I've read somewhere that the Local Settings aren't replicated like the other files in a roaming profile, but I haven't finished checking up on that. I wouldn't expect anything else than that Windows takes care of Outlook e-mail for a roaming profile as well though; I mean, the user must be able to read his/her mail from any computer in the domain, what else would the purpose of a roaming profile be?
Except for the weird thing about us not being able to find the user preferences or Outlook files for the client amongst the files on the server, I feel we're missing something; Apparently Windows isn't as straight forward as one would expect (not sure why I did expect anything, come to think of it).
We're going to give it a new go next weekend. Except for doing further research we're thinking of copying /etc/smb.conf and the files in /var/samba and /var/db/samba to the new server, along with exporting and importing the old user accounts to the new server, and then see if everything works as expected.
If so, we'll see if we can change the account names in a nice way, it's really desired to do so.
If not, we really need to do some more research, but if I'm not mistaking, the Samba-related files I just mentioned are the ones that pretty much make up the Windows Services in OS X, isn't that so?
    Thanks!

  • Migrating IR Reporting to new server

We are moving from an old production Workspace server to a new one. It will be the same version of Hyperion (11.1.2.1) and have the same name - this is simply a Hardware upgrade. The problem is that there will also be a new repository database server. Is there a way to migrate the repository from the old server to the new one?
The issue is this: We have lots of users that have saved Interactive Reports (IR), and if the reports won't run after the migration, there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from our user community. Joking aside, we would very much like to avoid this. We are told that LCM is the proper methodology for migrating - will it also preserve the repository entries so saved IR reports will continue working? If not, what can we do?
    thanks,
    -pat

LCM is the best way to migrate from environments or even between apps on the same environment. So you shold be fine to:
    1. create LCM
    2. install new server, hyperion software,
    3. restore via LCM
The only issue I could see coming up relates to the ip address which would be different from old to new server, which is why LCM should get around that.
*I haven't used LCM for IR reports specifically, but all for other workspace items:  FR, WA reports and user settings are migrated if you chose to do so.
Here are a couple of useful links:

  • Migrating from test to prod

    Hi All,
After migrating a BPEL process from test to production changed the deployment descriptors for BAM hostname/username/password using BPEL PM (prod). However, the changes did not take effect. Sensor data was not sent to the production BAM server.
What's the best way to migrate from test to production a BPEL process that has BAM sensors?
    Thanks.

If you are using BPEL 10.1.3.1 there is a bug with BPEL PM that any time you modify any of the descriptor values, you must retype the password. Failure to do this will cause BPEL PM to encrypt the *'s as the password.
Check and make sure the user account that BPEL is connecting to BAM with is not locked out because of this.
Once you get everything typed in and saved correctly, do a restart on the BPEL container to make sure everything is reset.

  • Migration Date when migrating from classic to new g/l

    Hello gurus,
I am planning a migration from classic to new g/l, but this fiscal year it will be not possible to finish phase 0 (from migration model plan). Is it possible to do it in the middle of the new fiscal year, what are the withdrawls or issues? what do you recommend me? What strategy can I use?
    Thanks,
    Silvia Guillen

    Hi Silvia,
There is differnce in migration date & activation date. Migration date will always be the firts day of new fiscal year.
But as on migration date you have to bring your config changes to PRD.

The warranty is NOT international. You must take it back to the country of origin if it needs repair. The E.U. is considered a single country for warranty purposes.

  • Got new iMac, I had completed the migration from PC to new Apple computer, but still unable to see the files on the iTunes

got new iMac, I had completed the migration from PC to new iMac, but still unable to see all the apps and music that were saved from the old PC to new iMac. Please help.

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Is the HDD in the 2009 15" MBP dead?  (The original source of your data)  If not, you might want ot take it out and put it in an enclosure.
You might try spotlight on know files to see if that gives you any clues where your data is located.
You might down load from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It should show you all of the files you have on your MBP and enable to locate them.
    Ciao.

  • Migrate Mirror Database to New Server

    Hi,
I need to migrate my SQL server Mirror Database to
a new server. my current setup is as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server B Mirror     (192.168.1.200)
now i have a new server (Server C) to replace server B as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server C Mirror     (192.168.1.300)
my question is how to migrate mirror db to new server without any affect or downtime on principal server, please share idea/experience for above.
    note: SQL SERVER 2008R2 EE(64BIT), Win2008R2 EE 64bit.
    Regard
    Faisal Wahid

    Thanks for your quick response.
Is it possible something like in oracle (pardon as i am oracle DBA not sql server guy),
(Oracle Steps to migrate standby(mirror) db to new server)
    1. Pause replication on primary(principal)
    2. Move standby(mirror) database files to new server(using copy/rman/etc).
    3. Update connection information (TNS in oracle) on primary(principal) to point new server.
    4. Start replication on primary(principal).
the above steps will simply migrate the standby(mirror) database to new server,
can we do something like above in sql server?

  • DFS New Setup migrating from 2003 R2 file server to 2012 Server STD

We currently have a 2003 R2 flat file server with multiple layers of nested network shares with over 2.5TB of data. We want to migrate to DFS on 2012 Server standard version with deduplication enabled. We have never worked with DFS and deduplication and
any white paper on DFS and deduplication would be greatly appreciated. Not finding anything on DFS step by step for 2012 and in particular migrating from 2003 file share to 2012 server DFS.

Thank you for the URL to your DFS write up. This was very helpful in my research of DFS. I have a couple of questions. Do I have to start DFS with two servers? I completely understand why you should have more than one server in the DFS pool (high
availability) but is it necessary? Also after setting up the two 2012 Servers with DFS, namespaces, and new shares managed by DFS manager, how do we migrate (move or copy) the existing shares to new server without losing the permissions? From what I've read
in your write-up all end users with have read and write permissions and admins have full. Also is there a best practice on how nested the shares should be setup within DFS? From looking at your write up the shares are one folder deep only. At this
company I'm migrating from a file server with shares 3-8 layers deep build up over the last 20 years.

  • Migrating from an OLD G4 Server to a new G5 Server

I have been running Server 10.5.8 on my G4 without a problem for the last year. Now we are upgrading to a new G5 server and was wondering how can I migrate the email accounts from my users.
I know that I have to export all my OD users and import them back in the new machine, setup the DNS (or can I copy these settings?) among other things.
This is our email server using IMAP and I just dont want to lose all my users emails. Is there an easy way of doing it?
    TIA!

I did this from xServe G4 -> G5 Mac Pro -> xServe Intel a while back when our G4 died - while we don't run email on it, we do have OD Master, iCal, Wiki etc, and operate in "Simple" mode.
Each time I booted the "old" machine off the 10.5 DVD, and did a disk copy (image restore?) from disk to External drive, then did same on new machine and restored from External drive to server. The last time I did it (to Intel xServe) I had no authentication (corrupt LDAP I think) but an OD restore from a recent OD archive got that back up and running.
Considering it was 3 transitions from old to latest technology, I was pretty impressed it went so smooth...

  • Content migration from old to new database server

There is thread upon thread upon question (as well as answer upon answer) of this already. I have 3 farms running concurrently. 1 production, 1 development and a new production (farm A, B and C respectively). Farm A's databases are on SQLa\SP while Farm
B is on SQLb\Beta and Farm C on SQLb\SP. I've successfully copied the content database over from Farm A to Farm B & C without an issue. Farm A and C are identical except for server names (service accounts etc).
What I'm trying to do now though is just a simple content refresh from FarmA to FarmC. Aside from shutting down FarmA and C, backing up & restoring the database again, is there another way to do this?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is you want to find another way to change   farm A production environment to farm C production environment aside from shutting down FarmA and C, backing up & restoring the database .
    It  involves moving a farm.
Moving a farm typically involves the following steps:
Set up the new server farm
Move the databases to the new server farm
Shut down the old server farm
So how to move the databases to the new server farm is the point. For moving all the databases, you can backup and restore. Another way is detaching and attaching as the thread states:
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/25215/the-best-practice-for-moving-content-database-between-two-farms
But copying the files is also a dangerous option due to file locks etc, and you don't want to take down the farm just to copy the data.
For more information, you can have a look at the blog:

  • Migrating PS from test to production server

    Hi,
I'm going on a evaluation test for PS. It's installed and configured on a temporary server (the test server) and working fine. The next step is to have this working on the "real" environment, it means in the production server.
What will happen with the documents I've already applied a policy? Can i use this documents with the new installation? Will the documents be managed with the new server?
    Thanks, regards.

Given this, I think I would be inclined to set up a virtual server or
DNS alias for the production server, like
    adobepolicyserver.mycompany.com.
That way, you can freely move the policy server function around by
moving the software and changing the alias. If you simply use a name
assigned to the server for another purpose, you could hit the
situation where someone else decides that name has to change for
administrative reasons, or where e.g. there come to be two production
servers and someone decides Policy Server needs to move to the second
    one to balance the load.

  • Migrating web sites to new server

    Hello all,
just got a new Mac Mini Server edition with the latest Snow Leopard etc. I am migrating all my various sites from the old server which was just running standard Leopard. I am having a hard time finding where everything goes. If anyone can point me to some good tutorials on setting of web hosting using Snow Leopard I'd really appreciate it.
For example, we use the server for local testing only, not public serving so on the old server we'd just go to http://192.168.1.5/sitename and that worked great. So where the heck is htdocs located on Server? Most of are sites are PHP/MySQL stuff like Wordpress and Joomla etc. So I'm guessing I'll need to enabled PHP 5 and MySQL and all that. I've got a few good tutorials bookmarked for that, but if anyone has a great Server specific one, let me know. I'll be porting everything using phpMyAdmin.
Looking at the help info for the Web Server Preferences, it says adding sites is for static HTML sites of which I have basically none.
I'm going through the Server booklet that came with the Mini, but I could really use some tips on where to put things like our shared project folders etc. I'm new to this server configuration stuff. Thanks a ton for any tips!

I am trying to do the same thing. I have an old Leopard server that has some internal websites on it. I am planning to migrate them over to a new Snow Leopard server this summer. I am just now starting to play with it. I wave been able to successfully move over wikis, but am having trouble with the user blogs.
To move the wikis, I found them in /Library/Collaborarion/Groups. Each wiki was listed as a separate directory. I moved the contents of the groups folder over to the new server in the same directory, and changed the permissions to those directories to match what they should be. To do this, I went into Server Admin and file sharing and browsed to the Groups folder (no further in) and propogated the permissions (owner and group names) down to the contents of the Group folder fo that each user and group was _teamserver. Shop and restart web server and the wikis were back.
I tried to do the same for the users, but that does not seem to work. Still trying some things there. I did not do any of the things that power mac suggested with php or mysql.
Hopefully, this works for you. I will try to post if I can figure out the user blogs. I would have thought they would have worked the same way as the wikis, but they were in the users folder instead of the groups folder. They are all listed there in the finder, but they do not show up in the web interface when I list the user websites in snow leopard.
