Migrate iCal Calendars from 10.5 to 10.6

After reading another thread about this I copied the entire folder from the 10.5 server from the location /Library/CalendarServer/Documents/calendars and everything under that to the new 10.6 server. I was careful not to copy the actual 'Documents' folder but copied the 'calendars' folder and then chose Get Info for the 'Documents' folder and Apply Permissions to Enclosed folders option, so that all the files and folders underneath got the _calendar user permissions.
But now when I login to the server from iCal on a standard 10.6 laptop, I click the + button to add a new server and choose CalDAV and enter the username and password and server address it responds with:
The server has not specified a calendar home for the account at "/principals/_uids_/DE66 etc --" https://miniserver.papsda.co.nz/".
How would one specify this calendar home that it is asking for?
Thanks,
Stephen

@spraguga have you referred to the manual at all also? It says the calendar structure has changed and that it will upgrade the 10.5 structure to the new one automatically. Doesn't mention anything else.
I have the same issue. I get "com.apple.launchd[1](org.calendarserver.calendarserver) Throttling respawn: Will start in 60 seconds
messages all the time.
I can't get ical server running.

  • TS3999 Sync Problem: Home iCal Calendar from iMac - iPhone 3GS via iCloud

I'm unable to sync Home iCal Calendar from iMac (Snow Lion) to iPhone 3GS via iCloud - events appear correctly on iCloud.com but not pushed to iPhone. However Home events created on the phone sync fine in other direction (appearing correctly on iCloud & iCal) - but they can only be amended on the phone.
My other Work iCal Calendar works perfectly in both directions.
Have tried various suggestions to fix but to no avail. Any help appreciated - thanks.

Really appreciating your help/time; it's so frustrating to try & sort this on your own!
So when I switch off iCloud on the phone, it asks me if I wish to retain the events from the iCloud - and I select it to delete them.
Then I go back into Calendar app, and I press on Calendar button(top left) I can see the On My iPhone" Calendar. If I select this to display I can see the events previously described. I then shut the phone off.
Having restarted the phone, I go back into iCloud settings to switch Calendars on and to at last answer your question (!!) there is no question to ask me to merge data (this good as it would duplicate entries)
Going back into Calendar app, it claims to be displaying both Home & Work calendars, but it only shows events in the Work calendar.
I've tried this a number of times and it is totally consistent in its failure to take Home events from the iCloud; I can't see anything different in the setup of the 2 calendars - do you think its a bug?
    Thanks again

  • Can I sync iCal calendars from two iMac's together?

Can I sync iCal calendars from two iMac's together?

    brettjbyers
No you cannot sync an iPhoto library between two macs. If you do you will corrupt the iPhoto Library file. iPhoto is a consumer level app, and this feature is not supported.
What you can do is share the photos but not the library. Each machine will need to have it's own library file.
The easiest way to do it this is to enable sharing (in the iPhoto Preferences) on both machines (one sharing the library, the other looking for the share). When you do this the shared library will appear in the Source (or left-hand) pane and pics can be dragged from that to the library in the other machine.

  • How do I locate an iCal calendar from a backup and restore?

I need help in restoring a calendar that I deleted. I haven't used Time Machine since May, but I do use SuperDuper and have a clone of my hard drive backed up through yesterday. I am pretty sure the file is there somewhere, I just don't know where or how to get it back into iCal.
    Here is what happened...
*I use Mobile Me to sync my iMac (primary), MacBook and iPhone.*
A week ago I was trying to get my "Sports" calendar subscribed to my daughters old iMac. After reading the forums, the suggestions were to rename the calendar and try again, which I did. Changed it to "Kids Sports" and it seemed to allow her to subscribe, although updates/additions/deletions never made it to her computer. I left it alone at that point, knowing it still wasn't working properly but she had the brunt of her schedule.
Then sometime in the last few days I downloaded a schedule for my child's soccer tournament using my MacBook. It placed 3 games (with all the times, locations, etc) onto my MacBook, I thought wow, how cool, I didn't have to type all the info myself. I have never downloaded a calendar file before.
I noticed a little while later that those 3 games did not sync to my phone or iMac. I investigated and thought the time zone may have been the culprit, I can't remember what was listed but it wasn't a time zone, it was something like "undetermined" or along those lines (can't see it now because the calendar is gone), so I changed each of those 3 events to Central Time manually. Later they show up as 5 hours earlier than Central Time.
Yesterday I open up iCal in the MacBook and it's showing my "Personal" calendar with thousands of duplicate entries that are selected to "never" end, going back to around the year 2000. I have no idea how my "personal" calendar got this way, I haven't changed anything with it. Since I've been working on the "sports" calendar mess. I deleted the events in the "personal" calendar from October 1st going forward, of course everything prior to that is still there. About 4 events listed for everyday and to never end.
I also get a message that I have over 2200 entries that need to be reviewed in iCal before syncing last night. It's the calendar labeled "kids sports". I can see that in iCal I now have 2 sports calendars, "sports" and "kids sports", they both seem to have the same information in them, so I sync with the "kids sports" calendar to be deleted. WRONG answer! All that is left are the 3 events from the calendar I downloaded online, in the calendar labeled "sports".
Everything is already deleted from MobileMe as well.
Soooo, is it possible to pull the "kids sports" file from somewhere in the applications area and put it back where it belongs from my back up?
It seems like once a year I have a major issue with MobileMe duplicating, but I have yet to understand what I am doing wrong!
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Anyone?
Let us get home from work first
I see my daughter's old iMac still has the "kids sports" calendar showing up with all the info still showing on her iCal, but she is subscribed to that calender versus syncing with it. I'm not sure if she has it set to manually refresh or automatically refresh.
If the calendar shows up fine on her computer the easiest way to get it cleanly is to get it from her computer if that is your goal. I'm assuming this is a calendar you created on your computer and then published and then she subscribed to it?
    _Go to her computer.
_Click on the calendar in question on the left hand side once.
_Go to File > Export > Export and save to the desktop.
_Bring the resulting .ics file to your computer.
_Delete the current kids sports calendar from your computer.
_Double-click the .ics file your brought over and add it to a "New Calendar"
_Now you can re-publish that calendar.
I don't understand why I can't use Superduper! to find the deleted calendar (deleted today and sync'd)
I'm afraid I've never used Superduper! so I can't offer any suggestion there. You may want to ask the maker of that software how to restore from their backups. I use Time Machine. However if SuperDuper! clones your hard drive as you say then all your calendars are stored in Your User > Library > Calendars on that backup.
You don't restore individual Calendars with iCal because it is one large database (in truth you can but it is very time consuming as every single event has it's own individual .ics file). So when you want your calendar from a certain restore point in time (when you made the last backup) you can follow these steps:
    _Quit iCal completely
_Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > iSync
    _Open iSync
_Go to iSync > Preferences and remove the check mark for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    _Reset Sync Services: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
_Remove Your User > Library > Calendars to the Trash
_Copy the Calendars folder from your backup and put it in Your User > Library where the old one used to be
_Launch iCal and check for your calendars
_If the calendars show up ok go back to iSync and re-check the box for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    Hope that helps.

  • Restore an iCal calendar from Time Machine

    HELP!
I stupidly deleted one of my iCal calendars. How do I restore it from Time Machine?
    Please Help me!

I found this on another thread and it worked well for me.
    Here are the instructions:
    1. Quit iCal, and enter Time Machine.
    2. Choose the timeline that you want to use for your restore.
    3. Select your "Home" Folder.
    4. Open the "Library" Folder.
    5. Click on the "Calendars" Folder.
    6. Choose "Restore Calendars To..." from the Action Menu (Gear Icon).
    7. Select the Home/Library Folder for the destination.
NOTE: After doing this (running lion) i found that i had to search in the search bar to find the Library folder to restore it to. After it's restored, the folder called "Calendars (Original)" is the one you want to use. Move the "Calendars" folder to the trash and delete "(Original)" from the folder name, and re open iCal. If this works, you can go ahead and empty the trash!
    Good luck!

  • How can I remove iCal calendars from touch?

I posted this to the iPod forum so this is a cross post ... just in case anyone here knows.

    Hi there.
I don't think you can delete a calendar from your Touch directly. I think you have to delete it from iCal. Once you have done that then it should disappear from your Touch. Of course this is assuming that you are connected up with Mobile Me and doing an air sync.
If you are not doing an air sync, then probably you can make changes in iTunes about what calendars get synced and which do not.
    Good luck!

  • Migrating Wiki Calendars from Lion from Lion

This was an information article, since I spent a few hours on this one and there was no documentation and may help someone one day!
Description: This article was a guide on how to move a Wiki Calendar form a Lion server to another Lion Server.
Problem: Wiki Calendar Service wasn't running properly, and the service was stopped / restarted and never came back on. There was a few errors on our XServ regurading this, but since there was no phone support, I created a work around by migrating the data to another mini, to get calendars back up and running. This may come in handy for someone to migrate servers.
Another problem that came into factor here was also we upgraded from Snow Leapord, so instead of all of your files being in 1 place like they would be on a lion machine they were in multiple directories, which made the process more difficult.
Process: A few steps will have to be done in order for this to work. As our configuration was binded to AD, in a multi domain forest. Also remember the wiki calendars are inbended into the wiki, so not only moving the calendar files are enough to get it working on a different machine.
    1) Bind to AD and get your 2nd machine up and running
    2) Migrate the Wiki Calendars over using the KB article on apples forumn. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5082
    3) Copy the config files for the Calendar - I included the default folders for this below.
    /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Data ---> /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Data on the new server
    **note**
If you came from a snow leapord machine you will have a folder called migrated-data / .calendarserver_version files stored in a different place, once found it will have to be copied to /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Documents
Both of these files need to be in this folder on the new server if your using the apple defaults ---> /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Documents
I also had renamed my calendars-migrated to calendars-migrated-old after they were moved to the proper location.
The folder calendars-migrated will also have to be copied over via a USB drive since hidden attributes are embedded and any sort of network sync drops these files. (rsync / sftp) If you navigate into the calendars-migrated data, you will see filse like this with permissions drwxr-x---@ and you need to retain the @ if you have multiple calendars in 1 wiki.
Once the folder calendars-migrated is moved to the new location in /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Documents/ you will have to use a chown to change the ownership of the permissions for the calendars-migrated folder
    # sudo chown -R root:_calendar calendars-migrated
    4) Next we will have to export the database for caldav
Stop the calendar / address book services
    # sudo serveradmin stop calendar
    # sudo serveradmin stop addressbook
Export the Database to the /tmp folder (file will be called caldav.pgdump)
    # sudo pg_dump --format=c --compress=9 --blobs --username=caldav --file=/tmp/caldav.pgdump caldav
Move the file /tmp/caldav.pgdump from the old server to the new server on /tmp/caldav.pgdump.
One the new machine wipe the database so you can import it with the correct version (form moving the .calendarversion file over)
    # sudo dropdb -U _postgres -i caldav
Create a new database on the new machine
    # sudo createdb -U caldav caldav
Import that database to Collab so it can be used in the wiki
    # sudo -u _postgres pg_restore -d caldav -U collab --single-transaction /tmp/caldav.pgdump

    Hi,
I'll just say my try of wiki migration from SLS(MacPro) to LS(MacMini with Internal Disk1&2).
1)Fisrt I made a bootable backup of SLS to Disk2 of MacMini.
2)Second I booted from Desk2.  MacMini was  running as SLS.  After that, I installed Lion and LS from App Store.
Wiki migration was successful. So Disk1 is an original LS and Disk2 is LS with wiki migration.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot get iCal calendars from Mobile Me back on laptop and iPhone

After completing the latest MobileMe upgrade, I lost all my iCal information on my laptop. I was relieved to see it still on MobileMe online, but now I cannot get it back onto my laptop. Have tried through System Preferences MobileMe sync from MobileMe back to laptop many times to no avail. I have also attempted to recover through Preference within iCal, but I do not have the appropriate "Account URL" to set up a new account. How do I find my account URL or get my iCal information back on my laptop. Thank you

    Greetings,
Backup your calendars before you do anything else.
Follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4226Go to "backing up data" and then "Backing up from me.com/calendar"
       2. Go to Apple > System Preferences > MobileMe > Sync and remove the check mark for Calendars -- this is no longer necessary as calendars do not sync with the new MobileMe calendar.
       3. Once you have backed up your calendars for safe keeping follow this article to add your calendars to iCal (be sure to delete any pre-existing MobileMe entries you may have made in iCal > Preferences > Accounts): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
    Cheers.

  • Migrating iCal data from v2.0.5 to v3.0.5

I guess I was hoping I could Backup my iCal 2.0.5 data and Restore in my iCal 3.0.5 computer. Doesn't work. Error message
    "Restore Failed
iCal data has not been changed."
Since I have 15 calendars in my iCal 2.0.5, I was hoping I could just backup the whole thing a move it to my new computer. Anyone know of a quick way of doing this?
Moving data from an OS X 10.4.11 G4 Tower to an OS X 10.5.5 24" iMac.

    Bryan,
Try using iCal>File>Export... on the G4, and iCal>File>Import... on the iMac. That procedure will be complicated by the fact that you will have to repeat the steps 15 times, but if it works...

  • How can I restore a desktop iCal calendar from an iPad backup copy? The iPad is routinely backed up to the computer and still has the calendar on it but I cannot get it to display on my desktop.

One of several calendars was accidently deleted from the desktop. It is still present on the iPad and backed up to the desktop. Additionally, the iPad version can no longer be edited, copied or moved.

    Thanks for confirming my approach.
I have tried your approach. I have a calendar with the most recent and future events; it is visible on all appliances; and, it syncs to the cloud without issue. I think I will wait for a very rainy day to transcribe five years of past events.
BTW, the corrupt calendar cannot be deleted from the iPad using any normal appoach; additionally, the events cannot be edited or modified except as described above. I will follow up with Apple but this calendar predates the iCloud and apparently there are known issues in moving those calendars to the cloud.
I tried restoring the calendar folder from Time Machine. It loaded initially, at least for the month I was watching as it loaded, and then deleted it again. So, the calendar I want to display still exists but is not accessible.
Thanks for your time and help. If I learn any more from Apple, I will pass it along.
    Cheers, ...

  • Is it possible to recover iCal calendars from disk image of hard drive?

Hi, I made and saved a disk image of intel imac hard-drive with a g4 imac running leo. I now want to recover the info contained on iCal in my account on that disk image. Is it possible without restoring that disk image on to an intel imac?
I wanted a clean install on the new imac for reasons that are valid, and some that I'm not quite sure were valid reasons such as security, since I don't know what is on the net that can or cannot compromise security either through website visits or email.

Yes it is, and with the links provided below in the "More Like This" you'll be able to get the right info.

  • How do i get Thunderbird/Lightning to see my 2009 iCal calendar

    friends:
i'm using mozilla thunderbird and postbox as my email client. they both support the Lightning plugin which looks pretty cool.
i would like to be able to read and write to my iCal calendar from Lightning. i know how to create a calendar in Lightning. it asks if the calendar is on the net or local. if i select local, i get an empty box for the location of the calendar. i don't know what to put in it!
i've seen some notes on making Lightning talk to google calendar, and this might work, since i'm also using busysync to push my calendar up to google for my MS friends to read and write.
i also use daylite, which interacts perfectly with iCal, and i use missing sync to sync my palmOS treo to iCal.

  • ICal Calendars list blank, MissingSync, MobileMe issues

I'm using OS X 10.4.11 and iCal 2.0.5. I recently installed Missing Sync 6.0.4 for Palm OS (to sync with a Palm TX), so am finally actually using iCal instead of the Palm calendar. I also just got around to resubscribing to .mac (without realizing that I was doing so smack in the midst of the MobileMe launch). I'm listing all three of these questions together in case there's some connection -- most likely something connected to MissingSync or MobileMe setup.
    1. iCal was working fine for me, synched with the Palm via Missing Sync, etc., but now I can't see the list of calendars. I can see events in the calendar itself, color-coded for different calendars, but nothing shows up in the calendars list (left-hand pane). Any ideas how to get that list back?
And two other questions, in case anyone here has answers:
    2. Sent this query to Mark/Space (MissingSync) a couple days ago, but no reply yet -- when I sync Palm and iCal, events entered on the Palm do not get copied to the laptop. No error messages, and all else goes fine ... Events conduit is set for "Synchronize," "All calendars," and to put read-only events in "Unfiled."
    3. Sent this query twice to Mac's MobileMe help, but have gotten only a completely unhelpful form letter with generic links back ... (Yes, I realize their support people are probably utterly bogged down right now.) I used to have .Mac, but expired 1/07. Now have a .Me account. I can't sync at all, even just to my iDisk (let alone with my other Mac) -- .Mac in System Preferences won't let me set up Sync (when I click that tab, it "thinks" for a while, then get a "problem with the sync operation: .Mac login failed" error message). Specifically re: iCal: is there some workaround? Some painless way to sync iCal events to iDisk without a functioning Sync feature? I'm hoping the sync failure is just a temporary glitch, and not a sign that I need to upgrade to Tiger if I want basic .Mac-level functionality, but main thing is just being able to view/use my iCal calendars from my work computer!

Installation continues to degrade. On startup of the application, all buttons and controls are missing.
Closing and restarting iCal causes the buttons and controls to return, but all calendar entries are missing.
Restarting the computer causes the sequence to start again - controls are missing, restarting the app brings them back but then calendar entries are useless.
    Totally useless.
