  • Migrating MOSS from windows server 2003 x64 sp2 to 2008 R2

    Dear All,
I can't find too much data supporting this issue
all articles says restore farm / migrate IIS / copy and replace 12 hives
I don't believe this is so practical
I need more in depth details like how IIS will be migrated [Should I use web deployment tools]
what about customized solution that modifies the web.config file and deployed as farm solutions will IIS migration tool override the changes on it
    Thanks for help

I have my HP 855c/driver working on Win 7 Ultimate x64. I used the 'printui /s' procedure and 4 files described above with some minor changes.
I pulled WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe down from the Microsoft website. Running the file causes the exe to unpack into a temp folder at the root drive. A 'Setup Error' message box is displayed once the file is run. I left this
message box up until I copied ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, and sp2.cab from the temp folder.
I copied driver.cab from a Windows XP Pro disc. I also needed amd64\stdnames.gpd which was already in my Windows 7 c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 folder.
I created a folder with the 5 files (ntprint.inf, ntprint.cat, sp2.cab, driver.cab, and amd64\stdnames.gpd). This is my 'Have Disc' folder.
I followed the 'printui /s' instructions, first changing the permissions mentioned above and then installing the driver. Next I followed the instructions to add a printer from Control Panel 'Devices and Printers' - 'Add Printer', choosing to 'use an existing
driver' when installing the HP 855c.
I used a slightly different ntprint.inf, size 1570418. The readable contents of ntprint.inf is as follows. Notice the line 'CatalogFile=ntprint.cat' is not included. I tried using the 1570468 version of ntprint.inf; when I did I received an incompatibility
message (probably the same one mentioned above).
    ; NTPRINT.INF (for Windows Server 2003 family)

  • Upgrade CF9 to CF11 w/IIS can't get to migration/configuration stage

I finally go approval to do my upgrade not as a stand alone, side-by-side upgrade which was requiring me to do a major hack that wasn't working due to our funky coding and security twists we have implemented in the code.
Unfortunately, when I do the upgrade/installation it installs, but I can't move on to the migration/configuration stage of the installation.  I can't see anything in the error logs.  Sometimes I'll get the 500.19 error message when I try to connect to the administrator myself, other times nothing.  When I get the HTTP Error 500.19 Internal Server Error it refers to the ApplicationHost.config or web.config file that contains malformed xml element.  When I look at the old web.config file it contains about 9 handlers that are using either jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll or jrun_iis6.dll.  I do have the IIS6 to IIS7 configuration selected in the new installation of CF11, but I can't move forward.  I want to just copy these 2 files from my CF9 installation, but I don't know where to put them.  I've even renamed the web.config file so that IIS would recreate it so it wouldn't be referring to the old CF9 web.config file and getting stuck there, which one error message once referred to these lines in the CF9 web.config file.  I understand that this question blurs the ColdFusion/IIS category boundaries.  I'm not sure where my error is lying, with IIS or CF11.  I want to just enter these handlers manually in IIS 7, but my boss seems to think we need to have wsconfig do that for us in case it is putting code elsewhere and we are missing configuration changes that really puts us in a spiral.  Thoughts/suggestions anyone?  I hope I was clear enough.
Another thing is that we have our CFIDE folder for CF9 located in a different directory, for security purposes I'm guessing, yet I can't figure out how CF is recognizing that it should go there to run.  In CF Administrator it is referring to a different folder for CFIDE that doesn't exist.  I have only seen one referrence to the correct location, and that was in the registry when I was ensuring CF11 references were deleted. CF9 had it there. I guess I'm wondering if there is a setting somewhere that i need to change so CF11 will look in the correct location and then run and go forward with the migration/configuration part of the instalation.  I can't find it in any of my searches that look for that foldername in the files.
I have inherited this project and there is very little documented regarding configuration changes that were done.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Jennifer

OK, my installation is working, although I'm still trying to get the applications to work (permissions issues I think).  Since I kept having migration difficulties we created a CAR first with CF9.  We then ended up just doing a straight upgrade on our development server.  I performed the install with server configuration and selected Configure my webserver for ColdFusion 11, IIS.  When you launch the browser to connect to CF11 administrator if you get the 500 error message it may be because the SSL for the CFIDE>Administrator folder in IIS is selected.  Deselect it and that error messge should go away (if it is that that is).  We kept getting a 404.7 error message of deny file extension.  I was thinking it had to do with my cfm extensions because I was trying to open a cfm, but it wasn't the case.  The error message mentioned isapi.redirect.dlls.  I finally found an error message under my IIS FailedRequestLogs that mentioned something about Request Filtering.  Turns out .dll was not in the allowed list of my virtual Jakarta folder.  Once I added this and restarted IIS I was able to get into my CF Administrator 11 and installed the CAR file.
Now I keep getting Unauthorized errors and need to figure that out. Permissions are looking like the cause of that.
Things I learned (you may already know this):
CF9 can have CFIDE placed wherever, but CF11 needs to keep it where it is installed.
CF11 doesn't need IIS 6 Metabase Compatability installed, whereas CF9 did (at least ours did)
We kept getting a duplicat MIME Type error message too for .air.  That was added at the server level and inherited at the website level.  I deleted it at the server level and added it at the website level.
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Migration to SDK 2.1, from HWC to IIS

    Hello,
I have an azure webrole running on SDK 1.8, it has a handful WCF services and a common data access component to access an Azure SQL database and Azure Storage. It was running using the Hosted Web Core (HWC) - no Site definitions as I do not host websites
on it - so far this worked really fine for the last two years.
Now I wanted to update it to SDK 2.1 (which should be latest for VS2010) and I am facing several issues:
I learned that hosting the WCF services via HWC is no longer possible since SDK 2.0 and I have to use IIS.
This leads to the problem that the webrole is running under a different process as the webservices.
So far I have created a common component that is initialized when the webrole was started. It read the configuration, which contained the parameters to access the SQL database and the storage. This component was used by the webservices to read/write data
    to database and storage.
Now with IIS, the initialization only happens for the process of the webrole. This leaves the webservices with a non-initialized data access component.
    To the questions:
1: What would be the best practice to access a SQL database and the storage from the webservices. These have been completely stateless so far, but now they each would need to read the access parameters for the database and storage.
I am lacking a defined entry point there to initialized the component.
2: Why was HWC hosting removed? For my scenario (Webservices with database/storage backend) I see no benefits of using IIS (just a lot of issues for migrating and redesigning the architecture).
Any advice would be helpful, also an explanation why HWC was removed (so I can understand it).

Hello Will, thanks for the answer,
Yes, I am using an Azure hosted SQL database. I would like to retain having the sql server connection parameters in the webrole configuration instead of the web.config. That way I can react to the role configuration changes and don't need to recycle the
role when switching databases. Same when storage settings change.
I have found the article you posted about IIS and changes from HWC as well, but I found no explanation why the possibility hosting a webservice HWC style was removed.
Did it cause problems or issues or was it a strategic change to only go the IIS way? So far I did not have many issues hosting webservices without IIS (in contrast to experiences with IIS, which did not always go smoothly).
I am now rewriting the data access component to initialize itself lazy-loading style on the 1st access (even if I am no big fan of that pattern, I usually prefer to have a well-defined initialization at startup).
Anyway, I know I can't go back because sooner or later the older SDK versions will become unsupported. Learning why HWC was removed would help to understand things better.
Maybe this post helps others to identify migration issues early without a lot of searching.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Windows 2003 SP2 servers migrating from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5 without upgrading to Windows 2008 R2

I have 3 Windows 2003 SP2 servers running IIS 6.0 and my client wants to upgrade to IIS 7.5 without having to upgrade the OS to Windows 2008 R2. Is this possible?
    Thanks

No I'm afraid not. The full versions of IIS depend on the OS, so IIS6 on 2003, IIS7 on 2008, IIS7.5 on 2008 R2.
The Express version of IIS can be installed on 2003 but that's for developers only so no use in your situation.
Also worth nothing in terms of upgrading, unless your 2003 installation is 64-bit then you can only do an in place upgrade to 2008 IIS7. There's no 32-bit option with 2008 R2, and no way to do an in place upgrade between 32-bit and 64-bit, so if you really
need to upgrade to IIS 7.5 then your only option would be to start with a new install and then migrate the websites from one server to another.

    1. This seems to be incomplete description.
    2. You can enable legacy technologies while installing roles and features.
    3. For application pool(s) you should consult respective developer/vendor team(s) for help.

  • WebDB Migration to IIS (server)

How do I migrate my present WebDB Applications to an IIS server

    Hello,
as long as you are using more then one DC/DNS/GC in the domain there is no problem removing the DC and after demotion and COMPLETE removal from the domain to reuse the name.
BEFORE reusing the name please assure that all old references in DNS, AD UC and AD sites and services from the old  DC name are removed.
Personally I prefer to work with new names for DCs because if there are some old information stored somewhere you may run into trouble.

  • IIS Site migration to Plesk

Hello, I have my IIS web server running on a Windows 2008 machine. I want to migrate one of the SSL sites(which has its database running on Mircosoft SQL server 2008r2) to another server because of the huge traffic and logs it generate. The new server
that I've got had IIS,sql server 2012 and Plesk panel already installed. When I tried restoring the data and databases, it doesn't show up. I've installed .net framework 4 and mvc 3 since its a .net site. But it just doesn't load, shows a blank page, and when
I tried to browse the foler using localhost, it showed 403 forbidden error and the issue might be with default document or directory listing. I enabled directory listing and checked the default document, but there's nothing.  Does this have anything to
do with Plesk being installed, because even the default iis site shows the Plesk panel. Please help asap.
    pf

    Hi pf,
About the 403 forbidden error, it seems to be plesk issue. Please refer to the document which might help you resolve the issue:
    http://knowledge.3essentials.com/web-hosting/article/1120/Access-is-denied.-Exception-from-HRESULT-0x80070005-E_ACCESSDENIED-Error-with-Plesk-9.5.html
If not working, I suggest you could enable Failed Request tracing in iis to troubleshoot it. For more information, please refer here

If the issue persists, as other mentioned, you post in IIS forums for better support.

  • SSO With XI 3.0 on IIS

I've searched these forums and finding bits and pieces of information so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I've successfully installed XI 3.0 on a new server.  We're trying to get SSO to work from our custom application so that users won't have to sign onto BO seperately.
Most of the documentation I've found has been related to XI 2.
I'm very new to administrating BO.  I'm assuming that the SSO on XI 2 (which we currently have our users using) cannot simply be copied over (I've tried.).  Also, I'm assuming that the SSO is part of a SDK or API.  If so, are these installed by default or are they seperate downloads?
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

3.0 does not support IIS for infoview, only java app servers. We can enable SSO for those.
As far as what migrates over from XIR2, the users, groups, plugin config, but the SSO settings do have to be applied on the web/app server(s)
If you get 3.1 (same license code) that does support IIS/SSO. You should get 3.1 regardless 3.0 was the very 1st version of 3.x and therefor has the most bugs.

    Tim

  • ActiveSync stops working after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

We have started the migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We've followed best practices and everything is working great except ActiveSync. I've performed Exchange migrations in the past so this is nothing new for me. I've also been referring to
a great guide which has been a big help,
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/planning-and-migrating-small-organization-exchange-2007-2013-part1.html.
Once a user is migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013, ActiveSync stops working properly. Email can be pulled to the device (Nokia Lumia 625 running Windows Phone 8) by performing a manual sync. But DirectPush is not working. The strange part is it's not affecting
everyone who's been migrated. Anyone who is still on Exchange 2007 is not affected.
At first I thought it was our wildcard certificate. 99% of our users are running Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 or higher but we do have a few terminal servers still running Outlook 2010. Outlook 2010 was giving us certificate errors. I realized it was the wildcard
certificate. Rather than making changes to the OutlookProvider I simply obtained a new SAN certificate. Although that resolved the issues for Outlook 2010 users, ActiveSync was still a problem.
Rebooting the phones and removing the email account from the user's device and re-adding it didn't resolve the issue either.
Then I performed an iisreset on the CAS server. This didn't help either. I didn't know it at the time, but I was getting closer...
I tried using the cmdlet Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity but it gave me the following error:
WARNING: Test user 'extest_0d9a45b025374' isn't accessible, so this cmdlet won't be able to test Client Access server
    connectivity.
Could not find or sign in with user DOMAIN.com\extest_0d9a45b025374. If this task is being run without
credentials, sign in as a Domain Administrator, and then run Scripts\new-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1 to verify that
the user exists on Mailbox server EX02.DOMAIN.COM
I started reviewing how Exchange 2013 proxied information from the CAS to the mailbox server and realized the issue may in fact be on the mailbox server.
I performed an iisreset on the mailbox server and all of a sudden ActiveSync started working again. Awesome!
I can't explain why. The only thing I can assume is when some users were migrated from 2007 to 2013 something wasn't being triggered on the Exchange 2013 side. Resetting IIS resolved the issue. I guess I'll have to do an IIS reset after I perform a batch
of migrations. Disabling ActiveSync and re-enabling it for the affected users didn't help - only the IISRESET resolved the issue.
If anyone has any information as to why this happens, please chime in. Also, if anyone knows why I can't run the Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity cmdlet, I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In Exchange 2013, the Public Folder is changed to Public Folder mailbox instead of Public Folder in Exchange 2007 database.
Due to the changes in how public folders are stored, legacy Exchange mailboxes are unable to access the public folder hierarchy on Exchange 2013 servers. However, user mailboxes on Exchange 2013 servers or Exchange Online can connect to legacy
public folders. Exchange 2013 public folders and legacy public folders can’t exist in your Exchange organization simultaneously. This effectively means that
    there’s no coexistence between versions.
For this reason, it’s recommended that prior to migrating your public folders, you should
first migrate your all legacy mailboxes to Exchange 2013. For more information about migrating public folder from previous versions, please refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx

  • Reg:: SharePoint Foundation 2010 site Migration

    Dear Techys,
I have a scenario regarding SharePoint 2010 Migration, Please guide me for below one.

    Hi,
The easiest way is content database attaching approach when the following conditions are fulfilled.
If you do not have the custom developed stuffs such as (web parts, workflows, event receivers and any other business logic involving in dealing with web services or assemblies.)
If your SQL Build version and Cumulative updates /Patches on the server is higher and identical respectively.
On second scenario where you have some custom stuffs on your server that need to be updated along with server edition, then you need to move this (assemblies, workflow related xml files if any) on first and then use SharePoint Power Shell Command site backup
and restore on your target server.
Before doing this, take copy of your old server's web.config and web application related IIS configuration files to cross verify any of the migrated stuffs missing or get well informed about exception occurred on backup/restore and migration process.
