Migrate iPhone 4 from PC to Mac

I've done a fair amount of searching over the past few days and I seem to be unsuccessful at finding the information I want.  I'm sure this is a very common question however.
Having read some of the discussions, I have upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2 (11) on both my PC and MacBook Pro as well as upgrading to ios 5.0.1 on my iPhone4.
I just recently purchased a new MacBook Pro and I would like to ensure I still have my information (contacts, notes, music, apps, etc.) when I move from my old PC, which I wont be using with my iPhone4 anymore.
From what I've read, I understand that I need to copy the backup of my iPhone4 from the PC and move it to the Mac.  This is where I am stuck at the moment.  I am currently running Windows XP on my PC.
The only file I can find that might be the backup file is called APPLEMOBILEBACKUP.EXE-3A38FF8E.pf which is located in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and is 60 KB.   I can't see that being the file I am looking for though.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
David

Strange, but true... in my situation.
I use Thunderbird for my calendar which is sync'd with google calendar.
As far as copying iTunes, I also have "Logs", "Preferences", "Safari", "SyncServices" and "WebKit" folders listed in the same area.
I'm finally sensing some relief coming in getting this over with!

  • Transferring iPhone backup from PC to Mac - will this work?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am almost done with transferring everything from my PC to my Mac after a long full day and a half of backing up, reformatting external hard drives etc.
I have read to transfer an iPhone backup from PC to Mac you need to do the following:
If you are a Windows user, open the Start menu, click on "Computer" and then navigate to the "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" directory.
    And then:
Click on the "Finder" icon and navigate to the "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup" folder on the Mac.
I did the first step just fine, but when I tried to find the folder on the Mac by both manual navigation and then a spotlight search, it wasn't found, so I went into the Library/Application Support and then created a new folder with the name MobileSync and a subfolder 'Backup' within that. Will this work?
If not, could someone please help me on how to get my iPhone backup onto the Mac.
    Thankyou!

Ive migrated my apps from an old mac to my new mac. When i try to open my CS5 programs it get a pop up that says i need to install the legacy java SE 6. Ive done that and it still does not open?

I'm having a similar problem...but mine results from an OS upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.8.5.
Where did you access a clean copy of Java SE 6?  The link at adobe for archicval plug-ins is a dead download (and it doesn't appear to contain Java SE 6.).

  • I would like to migrate my idvd from my old Mac powerbook to my new Macbook pro? How to do it? Can someone show me the steps?

my new Macbook Pro does not have idvd and my old one has, so would like to transfer my idvd from my old mac to my new one. Can i do that? and how? thanks.

Right, I finally managed to get it sorted out.
iCloud only accept version 3.0 vcards, and the one I was using were version 2.1 so that's why it wasn't picking it up. So the easy way to get that sorted out is, use a gmail account.
I know you don't wanna do it because you think it's too much hassle and stuff, but trust me it only takes 5 minutes and that's it.
    1. Create a Gmail Account.
    2. Export your Old VCard files to the Gmail Account.
    3. Now Import them from Gmail to your PC again.
And, that's it, that's just makes the new imported version in 1 file contains your all contacts in version 3.0. Now you can just upload that on icloud and then sync it with your iphone.
That's what I did and it worked, and I am sure if you wanna replace this file in the Contacts folder under your User Account in Windows and then try to sync Contacts in Tunes, it should work, but as I said, I did it with iCloud and it worked for me. So aye, that's pretty much it. Phewwww..
Been searching for it for the whole day and it took 5 minutes in the end, badass...
Anyway, don't lose hope and always Google for everything!

  • How to transfer iTunes Library/iPhone data from PC to Mac?

    Hi,
I have just started using my Mac Mini. This is my first mac.
I need to copy my iTunes Library from my PC to Mac.
I searched for a solution and most of them advise to simply copy the iTunes folder to my Mac.
The problem is I am not sure if this approach will preserve my album ratings/playlist/playcounts/album art.
Most important, I wonder if this will transfer my iPhone data as well or not.
My contacts and stuff on iPhone are crucial to me. I need to be able to plug in my iPhone to my Mac and not be worried about losing my previous data.
    Any suggestions?
I am running leopard and am on wifi. I can transfer files over wifi.

The Apple store will do this for you.
You can call Apple Support and they will walk you through it.
You can type "move itunes library from pc to mac" into the google search bar.

  • Migration of files from Snow Leopard Mac to Mavericks Mac

    Ethernet cable connection.
    Mavericks Mac.
The window: Select the information to transfer - Choose which information you'd like to to transfer to this Mac.
"Checking "My Name" computer", which is the Snow Leopard Mac
Spinning pin wheel, and the Continue button is dim.
    Snow Leopard Mac.
The Migration Assistant window: Connect to the other Mac.
    "Looking for other computers".
Spinning pin wheel, and the Continue button is dim.
Now my question is, has the Mavericks Mac made a successful connection to the Snow Leopard Mac and because of the 300/350GB of files on it, the Mavericks Mac is taking a long time locating the files that would be transferable? If so, how long should "Checking "My Name" computer" take before I will be able to select what I wish to transfer? And how long would it take to transfer 300/350GB via ethernet cable connection?

Ended up making a connection via Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.
Restarted SL Mac in target disk mode.
Had to restart Mav Mac and after a bit of fiddling around, a connection was finally made. Info is now being transferred from the SL Mac to the Mav Mac.
Three to four hours to go.

  • How to migrate Library/DB from Windows to Mac

I am moving my photography business from windows to Mac (Vista convinced me). I already figured out how to get from adobe the Lightroom and CS3 licenses transferred, but I wonder how to deal with my pics? I have all my pics in a network hard drive and the library on my laptop with a backup on the network drive. My new configuration would be one iMac for doing all the work and one Mac Book for working on the road and sharing wit customers.
How to migrate my DB and photo collection?
How to set things up so I can use lightroom in both: My Macbook and the iMac? I ran a quick search and found many responses but I could not quite understand what needs to be done or confirm whether this scenario of two machines accessing same DB is supported for a NAS drive.
    Thanks!

Thanks Don, I am a writer and a photographer and probably not as savvy as you with technology or forums. I ran searches before posting my question, but nothing came back when using the keywords windows to mac, migrate DB, etc. So obviously I cannot even think about the right terms. Any link you can provide me with? So far after reading many posts around looks like LR will not work for my business because it does not support multiple PCs, but at least while I find another software solution, I want to be able to use my Macs with lightroom :-)

  • IPhone transfer from PC to Mac

  • Transferring the iphone 3G from PC to Mac?

I have been using my Iphone 3G on the PC running Vista for the past few months and I have recently got myself the MBP17. I would like to use the iphone with the MBP exclusively so how do I do this please?
I basically need to be able to use my iphone on the mac just like how I am using it on the PC, without losing any settings, music, videos, apps, etc.
Is there any online guide that I can follow to transfer the iphone from my PC to the MBP? On the PC currently, I have music and videos that I have ripped from my own CDs and also those that I purchased from the itunes store. I also have apps that I purchased from the app store.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you

You need to transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac.
Your iTunes library on your PC is in an iTunes named folder and the default location is in your My Music folder located in your My Documents folder.
The default location for the iTunes named folder on a Mac is Home > Music > iTunes. If there is an existing iTunes named folder in your Music folder, transferring the iTunes named folder from your PC will replace the existing iTunes named folder on your Mac.
    This link may be helpful.
    http://www.myfirstmac.com/index.php/mac/articles/how-do-i-move-my-itunes-library -from-pc-to-mac-and-keep-my-settings-intact
You need to authorize your Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes. Be sure to have iTunes quit on your Mac before transferring the iTunes named folder from your PC.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. When syncing an iPhone with an iTunes library on a different computer, all iTunes content on the iPhone that was transferred from another computer will be erased first - even when transferring the same iTunes library from another computer. This also applies to photos that were transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process from another computer. What is erased first will apply to iTunes content and photos transferred from your PC only - no other data on your iPhone will be erased.
Before syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, which you want to select.

  • Migration iTunes Music from Windows to Mac

Hello, I currently have a PC on Windows Xp, I usually use iTunes for Windows to manage and buy my music for my iPod and iPhone.
I would like to buy a Mac mini to replace my Windows XP computer.
I currently stored my music managed by iTunes for Windows on a Buffalo Raid NAS and that work very well.
    My questions are :
I would like to know if I will able to use my music from the Mac Mini ?
Is there any migration process to be able to use my personal music and my music bought on iTunes store on the Mac Mini ?
I will lose all my personnal data on my iPhone, if I connect my iPhone to iTunes for Mac on the Mac Mini,
Is there any migration process to be able to use my Apps bought on iTunes store on the Mac Mini with iPhone ?
On my Windows Xp computer, we have 2 windows user accounts (one for me and one for my wife to be able to our own contacts each other on our iPhones), so we have one iTunes library for each account and we are using the same iTunes Store Account for the 2 iTunes Library, will we be able to do the same on Mac Mini and iTunes for Mac ?
    Thanks for your help.

No, but encourage it.  Hold down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and guide it to the library.itl file in the iTunes folder.

  • Change iphone 3G from PC to Mac?

When I originally got my iphone, I had a PC, but I've since migrated to a MacBook Pro.  The iPhone, though it will sync to the MacBook Pro, doesn't seem to carry with it any personalization....
I have a feeling I missed something and must have to do some sort of reset on the phone?

An iPhone is not authorized or tied to a particular computer in any way. You can activate an iPhone with a Windows PC and then sync it with a Mac or vice-versa. Some sync their iTunes music and video with their Mac but sync everything else with their Windows PC. You can sync iTunes music and video with one computer but an iPhone is not authorized to any one computer.
What happens when you try to sync your iPhone with your MBP? Any error message provided?
iTunes includes an Export Library and Back Up to Disc options which can be used to transfer your iTunes music from one computer to another.

  • Questions re: iPhone switch from PC to Mac

    Hi everyone -
I finally made the switch from PC... I bought a shiny new iMac over the weekend, and so far, I love it!
Anyway, here's the situation: my iPhone 3G was previously synced with iTunes on my PC. I now am "phasing out" my PC in favor of the iMac. Once I get all of my stuff migrated to the iMac (like all my music), I want to start using the iMac exclusively to sync with the iPhone.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Is there anything special I need to do before I just go plugging in the iPhone into the iMac? and
    2) I presume that once I do plug it into the iMac for sync, the iPhone will reformat itself for use with the Mac. Am I looking at potential total destruction of my Apps? My contacts, calendar etc. are already on MobileMe - so they're safe... but how do I save my lovely Apps collection?
Thanks for taking a look - hope someone out there has some answers!

You should get everything working on the Mac first.
eg: Export your contacts from your old computer (to some .CSV file) and import into Mac's address book.
Make sure all music, videos, etc are on your Mac (or available via some drive it will have access to).
Your apps are on your computer so back them up too. Go to your apps, right click any one and say Show in Windows Explorer and it will go to where it stores the files for apps, so back them up over to your Mac too.
In iTunes on your Mac, make sure you are logged into the iTunes store before importing anything into it and that computer is authorized on your account.
In the end, you should have your library all setup on the Mac seeing all the files you had before.
You should export any contacts and import them into your Mac.
Once your mac is all setup, then you can sync and yes it will wipe your phone (not everything and it is not considered a reformat, it will just delete your music, videos, etc). But you can resync all that back since the new Mac can see those files now.
MobileMe is done via settings on the iPhone so you should be fine with that.
Others here may point you to a FAQ on this as I know there is one and they lay it out step by step about migrating from Windows to a Mac (for iTunes as iTunes may have some tools to help).

  • "Migrating" iPhone & iTunes to a new Mac computer, how to do it?

I sync my wife's iPhone and mine via iTunes on my MacBookPro. I now bought an iMac and would prefer to do the syncing from the iMac.
How do I correctly 'migrate' the iTunes to the iMac? Just copy iTunes to the iMac? Or are there some "authorization" issues involved?
Thanks in advance for all the advice. Cheers, Veit

But I DO seem to have a problem with the "AlbumData.xml" file: Picasa says that the file is corrupt. I did try to solve this according to Apple's suggestion, i.e. "rebuilding" this Data file by opening the iPhoto Library while holding the Command & Option keys pressed. The process took quite some time (my iPhoto library spans several years and has 120GB), but Picasa still says "corrupt AlbumData.xml".
Would you or anyone have suggestions how to solve this?
You should check the iPhoto forum (you are inthe iTunes forum) for help resolving this issue

  • Migrating Lightroom 4 from Windows to Mac?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro.
My photos are on an external hard drive, NTFS formatted.
Mac can read NTFS just fine.
How can I migrate my catalog to Mac? Is it even possible?
e.g. I'm concerned about Lightroom importing the catalog but not "finding" any of thoe photos, and then having to point it at each one manually. I have, of course, thousands.

Hi Bruno! Are you Portuguese or Brazilian?
Do you have an iPod, which you could use as a transfer way? If not I would recommend you to use the "Back up to disc" feature. Then just insert your DVD's in your new MacBook and import your library.
If you want to use your iPod, then read this:
First sync your content to the iPod.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Use one of this programs (all of them will preserve your metadata):
    [iGadget|http://www.ipodsoft.com/site/pmwiki.php?n=igadget.Homepage] (Mac and Windows)
    [iPod Access|http://www.findleydesigns.com/ipodaccess/index.html] (Mac and Windows)
Hope this helps! If you still have doubts, please reply.
