Migrate iprint OES1 linux to OES2 linux following TID 7002644 notworking...

Hi.
I'm trying to move iPrint of our OES1 cluster to a standalone OES2SP1
server following TID 7002644 but I can not get it to work.
I get an error in /var/log/messages saying "The iPrint Manager was not
able to exec child process /opt/novell/iprint/bin/." and then ipsmd goes
inte "defunct", ipsmd.log just claims ipsmd was started without any issues.
It is NOT running on NSS volume but on reiser.
Googling the above error message gives me to hits neither of which seems
relevant.
Any clues or anyone have any other way of migrating the printers to a
new server without needing to reinstall on workstations?

  • Migrated iPrint from NW to OES2, but doesn't autostart?

I ran this through my test lab and it seemed to work okay using the MigGUI to migrate iPrint from NW 6.5.7 to OES2 SP1 Linux
New driverstore object name, and manager names, of course.
We then created an NSS volume and used the script to migrate it to NSS aftewards.
    everything works fine EXCEPT:
If we reboot the OES2 server, the driverstore and the manager do not seem to auto-start.
We can go into iManager and start them and then it works.
Whereabouts would I find the log file to indicate why it's not auto-starting? (or perhaps it's trying to auto-start and is failing for some reason).

I doubt it since the init script itself specifies which conf to use via
the CONF_FILE variable. I know you said you can start the driverstore &
manager using iManager. What if you try starting them manually using the
    init scripts?

  • Newbie consulting about migration to Arch Linux from Ubuntu

I am using Ubuntu until I find Arch Linux, and I feel I quite agree with its principle of simplicity. I am considering a migration to Arch Linux.
The two major aspects I am thinking over are NTFS support and Chinese support.
As for NTFS, I need a system which has the capability to both read and write NTFS partitions, and stability is quite important for me. I cannot afford any data loss! With Ubuntu, I have never suffered a data loss from NTFS partitions.
As for Chinese, I do not care about the UI language. Usually I use US English. But I need the system to display Chinese and allow me to input Chinese.
Does Arch Linux meet my requirements? Or is it possible to configure it to have those capabilities?
Thank you! And sorry for my poor English.

    Runiq wrote:
ntfs-3g takes care of NTFS support. It's quite stable here, and I reckon Ubuntu uses it as well.
From my experiences with writing Japanese, I'd say that Arch is definitely able display Chinese as well. Writing chinese Characters shouldn't be that difficult either, given the fact that all Linux packages are basically the same. It's also possible to display and write Chinese characters in a console.
As for stability, I never had any problems, though it's in rare cases necessary to refer to the homepage before updating system-critical packages. I'd also update at least once a week if I were you.
    Thank you!
The stability I stated mainly refers to the stability of ntfs-3g.

  • DB2 Migration from Windows - Linux supported with Backup/Restore ?

    Hi folks,
we have to do a DB2 V9.1 migration from Windows -> Linux. Both servers are Intel based. Is it official supported by SAP to do this without SAP migration tools? E.g. with a backup/restore or redirected restore? I heard about it, but i'm not sure.
    Thanks a lot
    Jochen
Edited by: Jochen Raab on Mar 1, 2010 5:40 PM

    Hi Jochen,
Please have a look at the DB2 docu.
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r7/topic/com.ibm.db2.luw.admin.ha.doc/doc/c0005960.html
It clearly stats that Linux and Windows are not compatible.
DB2® database systems support some backup and restore operations between different operating systems and hardware platforms.
The supported platforms for DB2 backup and restore operations can be grouped into one of three families:
    Big-endian Linux® and UNIX®
    Little-endian Linux and UNIX
    Windows®
A database backup from one platform family can only be restored on any system within the same platform family. For Windows operating systems, you can restore a database created on DB2 Universal Database (UDB) V8 on a DB2 Version 9 database system. For Linux and UNIX operating systems, as long as the endianness (big endian or little endian) of the backup and restore platforms is the same, you can restore backups that were produced on DB2 UDB V8 on DB2 Version 9.
So you need to do an eport/import.

  • Migrate my Suse Linux users account  to mac os x moutain lion?

Can someone tell me how to migrate my Suse Linux user accounts, including mail, to mac os x moutain lion?

You need write a script to map your /etc/passwd database to the values in MacOS. Use the dscl command like here: http://www.deadmarshes.com/Blog/20111105010130.html or here: http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=141798
You can't take the /etc/shadow, because MacOS encrypts the passwords other than Linux.
Your users need to change their password:
    - via Webinterface from Mountain Lion
    - or via Server.app
    - or on a linux client using the OpenDirectory (LDAP) from ML
Each mail user needs to belong to the group com.apple.access_mail. You can configure with ML-tools any forwards. Tools: Server.app (Appstore), WorkGroupManager (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1567)
I'm migrated/migrating my users from Solaris LDAP. I'm using this technology.
Migrating the Mail system is an other task.

  • Novell iPrint for Linux

    Good day,
I have a server running SLES10 SP4/OES2 SP3, with iPrint, and have started seeing the following error:
Error: Create Print Manager Failure java.net.SocketException: Connection reset IPP Error: 0 x1007
We have just started troubleshooting this issue, but we found TID 7003554 which had as it's title the same issue that is currently being seen in iManager, (we have tried both the server version of iManager (where we get page cannot be displayed) and the workstation version of iManager (where we receive the IPP Error : 0x1007)
Additionally TID 7001424 has also been tried (steps 1 and 2 ) did not alter the outcome, still seeing errors accessing the iPrint for this one server.
So far we are only seeing this issue occurring on one server/iPrint system.
    Thank you,

  • Migrate GW7 to Linux GW7 or 8 with c06b , with libraries

    Howdy ,
( reason for my migration is speed of Linux and slightly damaged edir , so in this scenario i also have created a new tree!)
After browsing around because i bumped into the c06b error when trying to load the poa on linux i was suprised that there was little or no information around to upgrade to linux with libraries .. apart from the check in check out options .. which actully works ...but safety of documents id thought id post the way we did it to spare people the check in check out option and just migrate to full :)
In my company there are 30+ libraries stored on the same server .. residing outside our poa , on the same disk system but not within the poa ..
    * old system * NW6.5 SP8 / GW 7.03 (tree 1 )
    WEBACC (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\dmn\web)
    GWIA (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\dmn\gwia)
    POA &MTA (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\poa) (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\mta)
    Remote storage area's
    (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\poa\lib1)
    (\\SERVER\VOL\grpwise\poa\lib2) etc etc
    migrating all this to
    * Linux OES2 SUSE10 (tree 2 )
    7.03 / 8.0 agents installed ( default location)
    /media/nss/VOL/grpwise
so keeping my structures basicly the same..
Now for the basic file transfer we decided to go with Rsync .. , this gives us time to copy while on production and resync when we want to have a freeze point to actually go live on linux, whitout disturbing production.
during this rsync , we created a new tree and created all the users inside the new tree , reinstalled zenworks etc etc ..
so tree2 was tested with login scripts etc while the rsync was copying data from the old NW server to the New LNX server.
once rsync was done we grafted the groupwise objects into the new tree (LINUX)once in the new tree the paths of the remote storage area's has to be set then a rebuild of the poa is prefferred .. however here's 1 catch
all the files are still UPPER and LOWER case , u need to correct this (ON LINUX).. there are scripts around .. after correcting this .. we tried to load the poa .. no success .. ( changed UNC paths from console one windows, also added the native linux path to match our newly system )
    c06b ( ran gwcheck .. same result)
so we setted up a new netware server in the new tree .. resynced to that server , regrafted the lot again .. ( gwagents installed )
modify the storage area paths again .. and it loads .. ON netware 6.5 sp8 ..
from this point we tried the migration tool to merge it into linux ( since we want a new tree .. and im quite certain it doesnt migrate trees .. )
we had to set up the netware box ( once again not to disturb production )
only this time using the migration tool .. ( since the data was present on the lnx server migration took 2 hours ) however when completed ... no poa on linux .. c06b error ..gwchecked again .. same result ..
so then we tried loading the poa on the netware box with the storage area's on linux( once again modifying the paths in console one/windows )
it worked .. my new netware box was running storage area's on linux .. without errors on the netware poa .. so there has to be something off .. don't you think ?
so proven that the netware server can load the storage area's of the linux server ( in the same tree ... this was my fall back if linux failed to migrate)
however still no poa agent with libraries on linux .. here's the sollution
install console one on the LINUX server with gw snapins .. ull notice that all the storage area's UNC paths have changed .. this is incorrect.. u have to modify the UNC path to the native linux one .. and u have to do this on the linux consoleone version ..
console one windows UNC path of the storage area looks like this
    \\SERVER\VOL\POA\LIB
when loading LINUX consoleone UNC looks like this
/media/nss/VOL/SERVER/VOL/POA/LIB or similar ...........in my case this should be:
    UNC
    /media/nss/vol/poa/lib
    LINUX PAth
    /media/nss/vol/poa/lib
u can verify this by bringing up your new POA on linux with NOCFG
( be sure to make changes to the MTA /PORTS ETC, so it can communicate with the poa ! )
modify the paths in linux console one and watch the magic ,,,ull notice that if u access the library ( poa loaded with show :) ) and the path isn't modified correctly the c06b error pops over ..
Give it time to update though ..
after that u can launch your new POA from the console without NOCFG
and every works nice and dandy !

  • Database migration/upgrade from Linux (10.2.0.3) to AIX (10.2.0.5)

We are migrating 120+ Oracle 10gR2 databases (10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.3 & 10.2.0.5) from 30+ physical Linux (RHEL 4.6 & 5) servers to an AIX 6.1 virtualized environment running on two new P770 servers. Our migration approach will be to use Datapump Export and Import as we are moving between platforms and 95% of the databases are 5-10 Gb in size, so long export/import times should not be an issue. We have access to IBM's Xenobridge migration tool, but will try to do most of the work manually to offset the tool's high license cost.
Our server team is in the process of creating our AIX image(s) and we are preparing for the Oracle software installation . My question relates to the Oracle 10gR2 patch level on the new target AIX servers as our client has asked about patching all migrated databases up to 10.2.0.5.
Can I simply install the 10.2.0.1 base software on the AIX server, apply patch 10.2.0.5 and follow-up patch p10248542 before importing?
Is my upgrade approach then to simply export the 10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.3 databases on Linux using the lower version of the Export utility and import into a copy on the AIX server using the 10.2.0.5 Import utility?
Will the Import utility take care of the upgrade from 10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.3 to the 10.2.0.5 level?
Do I have to perform a manual upgrade and should there be any outstanding issues specifically related to Daylight Savings Time operability?
    Here's my high level plan:
    1. Install 10gR2 on AIX server and patch to 10.2.0.5
    2. Export 10.2.0.3 database on Linux server using 10.2.0.3 Export utility
    3. Use DBCA on Linux server to create "database create" template and transfer this template to AIX server for later use
    4. Create "shell" database on AIX using DBCA on AIX server referencing template copied over from the Linux server
    5. Import 10.2.0.3 database export into 10.2.0.5 shell database
Just wondering if all the steps in the 10.2.0.5 patchset notes (Readme for 8202632) still apply when using the export/import approach?
All feedback and comments around missing steps would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

Your approach is correct - imp/exp (or impdp/expdp) will work. You can ignore the notes in 8202632. I would highly recommend that you perform a test upgrade first to validate, tweak as needed, and perfect your process.

  • IPrint for Linux client, Lexmark and HP

So far, we have only had iPrint working on OES2 Linux for Windows (XP) clients. On my openSUSE/SLED workstation I have had to setup local printing instead using CUPS and PPD for our networked Lexmark MF and PS laserprinter.
Now before installing a new HP Designjet T790PS plotter, I wonder if iPrint can be set up for Win7 clients plotting and by using HPLIP for plotting from Linux clients?

Using iManager in the iPrint section you can setup the Plotter and other Printers for network printing by creating: The Driver Store, Print Manager(s), Printer(s) and Driver Profile - - this would allow you to effective setup all for printing from Windows and SLED.

  • A question about license date validity during OS migration: AIX to Linux

    Dear all,
I would appreciate if you could kindly give us
your advice about the following issue.
We have an environment dedicated for training. The environment was
initially installed on AIX platform. However, after a while the
technical direction decided to migrate to Linux.
The migration was done at 18 September 2009, and during this process
the very date was chosen and designated by SAP to be the
valid start date of the new SAP license.
Now, our problem is, that the data programmed in this SAP envionment
(used for training) is not compatible with the current date. In
order to make them work properly, the host system date must always be
set to the last year (this is because we had unfortunately some delay for
    the migration).
It is fundamental to remark, that currently, we are absolutely not able to
modify the data and the sole solution (although not the best one) to
tackle this problem is to modify the operating system's date. This is
precisely how we proceeded, but unfortunately we encountered a SAP license
    check problem during logon.
As I explained, the migration from AIX to Linux was performed at
18 September 2009, which means, this was the date for the new license.
Yet, we need to go further in the past and to choose 24th July 2008.
On the operating system, of course, there is no problem and the
administrator can modify the host date with the appropriate date, but
on the other hand, by choosing this date, we are no more able to work
within this SAP environment. At the logon time, we receive a license
check error, which is normal, because the host date (24th July 2009) is anterior
than the start date for the SAP license (18 September 2009).
Also, we cannot ask for another license, because we will have the same problem,
they never create a license dated for the last year, and they always create an
    up-to-date license.
Could you kindly guide us how we can manage to solve this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,
    Dariyoosh

I think you're better off opening an OSS message in this particular case.

  • Migration of EBS Linux to AIX

Hi, i am making a migration of EBS 11.5.10 CU2 of Linux to AIX 6.1, and only i have a question about the documentation.
    The steps are:
    1) Generate and upload the manifest of customer-specific files
    2) Create the Target System APPL_TOP
    3) Clone the AutoConfig XML context file on the Target System
    4) Install the Middle Tier Technology Stack
    5) Apply the Oracle interoperability patches
In this step (5), i have my question, how can i apply the patch of interoperability?, i must execute: adpatch, but adpatch is a binary that is in APPL_TOP and the APPL_TOP is of Linux not AIX, so the executable doesn't run. How can i apply the patch so?
Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Hussein, first thank you for helping me.
About the question no, in the Note of metalink even in a white paper of IBM the step 5 we must apply a special path a Metalink of compatibility for the new environment so in this case i need to apply the patch for my new environment in AIX.
So the readme of the patch says:
    Abstract
    Platform Migration patch
    Update 11790872
    Product Applications Updates
    Release 11i
Platform IBM AIX on POWER Systems (32-bit)
    Built FEB-18-2011 15:45:45
    Instructions
Note: This patch is specific to your Applications system code level, at the
time the file manifest was generated. Discard this patch and request a new
one if you have applied any patches to your source system after requesting
    this patch.
    1. Source the APPL_TOP environment file on the target migration system
This environment was created during the execution of AutoConfig.
See MetaLink Note 238276.1, the step entitled "Run AutoConfig on the
    Target Node."
    2. Unzip this patch into a patch directory. This will create the
    directory 11790872.
    3. Change directories to the 11790872 directory created in step 2 above.
    4. Run adpatch from the current directory to apply this patch using
    the u11790872.drv driver:
    ./adpatch options=noprereq
So my question is, how can i use adpatch in the step 4 if i don't have the adpatch still as binary of AIX.

  • Migrating to Fedora (Linux) - Will Adobe products work well in WINE?

I am doing a big change to my systems and OS's, I see that Linux will do what I need. I am finding options for my other Apps, but I would prefer to continue using my Adobe products (they are not my main Apps). Do Adobe products work well in WINE environment? I am also looking at a crossover app that works in a virtual machine.
Thanks for any help or direction.

Migrating software programs from one machine or HD seldom works.  You need to actually *install* software from downloads or installation disks.  You don't mention which product ver you have.
Run the CS or CC Cleaner Tools below to wipe all traces of Adobe products from your HD.  Then re-install the customary way.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Typically you only need to deactivate if you had previously installed your products on 2 machines.  Creative Cloud software installed on a 3rd machine will deactivate the previous installations.

  • Migrating network from Linux to Apple

I am new to the Apple world (first post ) and I would like advice on the best way to reconfigure my network from a Linux based "do-it-yourself" to an easier Apple happy network, reusing as much exsisting hardware as possible.  I have 150GB of media data excluding the many DVD's I want to digitize (this should easily exceed 500GB once completed) so it is available to all apple devices.  I have a 500GB HDD Mac mini, small USB 500GB HDD, Linux server with 2 x 500GB HDDs, my old gaming Windows PC with a 500GB HDD, and various apple products that access the media.  The mac mini will be the central Apple media computer but I want to back it up using Time Machine and need to store the movies on an external disk in a way that does not break the media sharing, like Apple TV.
    My questions are,
    1. Should I store the extra movies on the 500GB USB HDD and then use the Linux server as a SAMBA share for Time Machine, or vice versa?
    2. Given the hardware I have, how would you set-up the home network?
Again, my goals are to provide an immediate back-up (time machine) and a 3rd back-up that protects against fire, flood, or natural disaster.  I want to avoid issues where I am writing scripts again.  I am an engineer that is used to manually configuring all of this but am also getting older am having less patience.  This is what caused me to buy the Mac Mini in the first place.
Thank you in advance for detailed advice/discussion,
    -AR

    Hi,
You should be OK to do this since export/import works well cross-platform, providing you are on roughly the same version of the database - I doubt that you would have any major problems from 9.2.0.4 to 9.2.0.7.
If you are doing a full export/import and you are relying on the import to create tablespaces and datafiles, then you will need to make sure that your HP server has the same filesystem layout or you will get failures.
What I have tended to do when doing migrations like this is to pre-create the database on the target server (i.e. create the database and all the tablespaces and datafiles) and then import the relevant user schemas (you might want a first pass which is a full import but without inserting data so that all users get created). Assuming that your database is in good shape and no user objects are owned by SYS or SYSTEM, it should be fine.
Probably the best advice I can give is to make sure that you give yourself time to run through (i.e. practice) the migration a few times so that you are sure of the process before doing it 'for real'.
    Cheers,

Has anyone successfully migrated/moved over a 2 tier 10g AS installation from Sun Solaris to RedHatLinux?
Will it require a new installation of 10g AS for Linux and then move over the data? We plan to re-use the same hostnames and IPs. Any ideas or suggestions?

So the plan is to install 10g AS on Linux using the same hostnames and IPs and then move over the data. Please forgive my ignorance, what's the best way to move over the data? A fulll db import/export, moving over DBF files, or?
