Migrate Metadata into KM

We have a large amount of MS Office documents and PDFs that we are plannning to move into our KM repository.  These documents all have metadata stored within the document, i.e. Dublic Core metadata.  We want to copy this metadata in the documents to the KM database.  For example, we want to copy the Title metadata field of a MS Word document to the Name property of the corresponding document in KM.
Has anyone else done this?  Could you recommend how?

Hi Andrew,
I was involved in similar kind of activity in last year.
I followed below activities to mass upload the documents to KM and set metadata properties.
1)  Design folder hierarchy on local system and moved respective documents to the folders
2) Manually collected all the meta data of those documents in an excel sheet.
(optional : I used VB script to convert these metadata into XML file )
3) Drag the Folder ( i.e. is created in local system) to the KM Folder using WebDAV.
4) Create KM Application which take XML/excel file and parse the XML/excel file and used KM API's to set meta data of those documents.
Hope this will give you some clue to your solution.

  • Moving metadata into content server

    Hi Everybody,
Does anybody have an idea on how the Metadata in KM can be moved to Content server ?
What configuration steps to be done both from KM and Content server?
And once metadata is moved to content server how the documents can be accessed in KM from this migrated metadata(Documents, content) In content server?
    Could somebody help on this.....
    Thanks & Regards
    Sireesha.

    Dear Vasudeva,
    Please refer to SAPNote "900571".
There is no specific way to move metadata into content server all CM Modes DBFS, FSDB metadata is always stored into Portal DB and I don't have much Idea for DB Mode....
If you want to store KM files into content server than its possible using DBFS & FSDB Mode but not possible to migrate metadata into content server

  • Error while Importing Metadata into DAC Repository

    Hi,
After the successful first time login into DAC and creating repository, when I try to import metadata into DAC repository.
DAC > Tools > DAC Repository Management > Import
I don't see any Applications listed under "Application List"
Can anybody suggest the troubleshooting steps for this?
    Regards,
    Jitendra

If this is the first time that you are importing make sure that the directory you are importing from is like this -
    C:\OBIEE\OracleBI\DAC\export
If this is not the first time then
Can you go inside the following directory
    C:\OBIEE\OracleBI\DAC\log
and check for export.log - Look for Applications Section, if you have any application then you had exported it and you should see it under the applications tab when importing otherwise you don't !!Since its an xml file that is generated i believe you have not exported by selecting the applications yo want and that is your problem.
    Hope this helps !!
    Cheers,

  • Embedding extended XMP metadata into a PDF file

    Hello.
I am preparing a thesis for submission into our library repository. They keep some additional information about the paper in a separate XML file which looks like: http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/ethos-oai/2.0/uketd.xml
The metadata can be then easily harvested by other libraries etc.
Because the papers are downloadable and can freely circulate over the Internet I would like to also include the metadata into the PDF itself.
I've managed to extend the PDFX (MiKTeX) package such that it writes custom metadata in addition to the default fields (Author, Title, Subject, Keywords) into the PDF.
The problem is that the library metadata (see above) makes use of XSI schema which is apparently not compatible with RDF format of XMP.
Is there a way to get such rich metadata sets into a PDF file in a portable and accessible (thinking about search engines) way or should I stick with plain Simple Dublin Core?
    Thanks for recommendations.

  • Incrementally appending  custom XMP metadata into PDF files

I have a problem writing custom XMP metadata into a PDF document (I'm using the XMP Toolkit SDK).
The problem is that I don't know whether is possible to expand the XMP packet in order to append metadata incrementally into the document, and, if it is possible, I don't know how to do it. The program I wrote succesfully appends an item to an array four times, but it fails when trying to append the fifth one. The reason obviously is that the packet gets full and there is not room for more metadata. The error message, if I force the PutXMP call, is:
ERROR: Can't fit into specified packet size
So, what can I do? How to enlarge the packet or make it expandable? Or, otherwise, have I to inject a new XMP packet with the up-to-date information in it? How?
And a last question: Have I to scan for packets when dealing with PDF files? No smart handlers are available for this kind of files?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How do you embed/inject xmp metadata into a mpeg 2 video file?

Im looking to add keywords and descriptions to original file (raw MPEG-2) and have the metadata stick when i go to the transcoding process and batch convert the orginal file to either a wmv and flash file. how can i achive this? what tools are available ? and or is this a custom job? any info and or programmers looking to test this im open to all the help i can get.

Yeah I kind of figured that. I've been trying various ways of trying to batch inject metadata into video files and thought I would start with the master file but because of the limitations the raw digitized mpg 2 video file has. In that case I have yet to find a transcoding program that will batch out various formats and read a xmp side car file to inject the metadata into the outputted file (does anyone know if Adobe media encoder 4 can accomplish this where a xmp sidecar file is created then transcoding into a wmv and or flash file , curious if the metadata will stick and be read in the outputted file) In anycase  I may have find an alternative way and use my current Rhozet carbon coder transcoder program to try to inject an xml file during the batch transcoding process. If anyone has successfully accomplished this with injecting xmp metadata in a batch transcoding program please let me know. I've been exhausted searching for the solution this problem for a long time and I don’t want to wait till a mpeg 7 solution comes out.

  • Use of XMP Custom Panel to automate insertion of metadata into PDF file.

I'm new to the world of XMP so please bear with me.
I'm exploring ways of automating the insertion of metadata into PDF files, either at the time of creation, or through a batch process. The metadata values for a given set of documents would be static, so these could be "hard coded" into the mechanism use to insert the metadata.
Would an XMP Custom Panel be something I could use to achieve this goal. If so, can you please provide some details on how to go about doing this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Export Bridge Assets including metadata into searchable web gallery

    Hi,
We have several thousand images that we have tagged with metadata in Adobe Bridge. We want to be able to export these images and their associated metadata into a searchable web gallery so that customers can search keywords or at the very least pick attributes in order to narrow down the image selection process.
What software has the ability to do this?
    Thank you!
    -Mike

Apologies.. my advice may have been wrong.. it is a while since I figured it out.. trying to remember what it was I did..you do have to shorten that file name.. but it may not be the caption you need to change. I suspect I may have selected all the images.. then gone to meta data batch change and done something under the custom button which then applied to all images.
In my case I needed to get the web address for the gallery created from:
    http://homepage.mac.com/farish/Smartbins™%20Chewing%20Gum%20Bin%20and%20Cigarett e%20Bin%20Image%20Gallery/
    down to:
    http://homepage.mac.com/farish/Chewing%20Gum%20Bin%20Cigarette%20Bin/
I did manage it but can't quite remember how I did it.
I will keep playing and when I figure out what I did that worked will post again.
The web gallery name you choose affects how Google sees the site as when you publish the web gallery - the web gallery name can pop up in Google
It's quite difficult to figure out exactly what to do. If anyone else knows a definitive answer please advise!

  • How to import XMP-MP metadata into organizer

I have a fairly large number of photos with face tag metadata.  Since Adobe is part of the working group that developed the XMP metadata standard, imagine my surprise to find out that Photoshop Elements 11 doesn't use it!
Is there any external program you guys know about to import face tag metadata into the organizer?  I used Windows Photo Gallery to do the face tagging and it properly writes the metadata to the XMP fields.  Problem is the photoshop organizer doesn't read the XMP fields!  It's using it's own standard(?)
We are talking thousands of photos here so re-tagging is just not an option.  Is there a way to get photoshop to import the tags and regions?
    Struggling User

I think most of us who deal with large amounts of photos usually have a multi-application approach to things.  No one application does it all.  I crossed the 10,000 image point some time back and the thought of face tagging all that again makes me more than a little queasy!
I looked at PSE 11's organizer and realized it was very close to what I want.  I'm going to use PSE for pixel editing anyway so it looks like an ideal one-size-fits-all application.  However, of course I now know PSE doesn't use tags in the same way as others.  So it's just a deal breaker plain and simple.
    Right now I use:
Photo Gallery (formerly Window Live Photo Gallery) for organization and face tagging and subject tagging
GeoSetter for location tagging by the way it recognizes the Microsoft face tag data so I can use the people tags to sort in that app too
ExifTool for metadata manipulation where needed (camera data or other interesting info)Also note the ExifToolGUI (no longer maintained also recognizes the Microsoft face tag metadata)
    Photoshop Elements for pixel editing
I use the face tags as keyword tags so you get a double benifit.  The big deal of course however is the face region tag.  Having a picture of many people and a separate list of keywords isn't helpful.  You only know that John Smith is in the photo somewhere but you don't know which person he is!  Like you said however, it's not important to everyone.
I will keep researching this.  I'm betting someone has written an app to extract one set of data and make it available to another app.

  • Import Bridge CS4 metadata into LR3?

Is it possible to import metadata into LR3 that I've created in Bridge CS4?
Another thread here said it's possible, but there was no explanation on how to proceed.

    Yes it is possible.
The "metadata shuttle" between Bridge and Lr is the XMP-file.
( As an aside: Strictly speaking LR writes metadata to xmp-file (side-car file) only in the case of Raw images, whereas in the case of JPGs, TIFFs, PSDs the metadata is written into the header of the file. I suspect that this is the same in Bridge. But in >Catalog Settings >Metadata tab the term "XMP" is used indiscriminately.)
To import the metadata that was created in Bridge in Lr, do a <Read metadata from file> via >Metadata >Read Metadata from file (in the Library Module), or >Photo >Read metadata from file (in the Develop Module).
Please be aware that by < read metadata from file> the complete set of metadata will be imported, including any develop steps you might have done in Bridge, and this will overwrite all metadata already done in Lr (including develop edits which are also metadata). I believe this will even be so in case you have done no develop steps in Bridge, i.e. any develop steps done in Lr will be overwritten with "0". <Read metadata from file> cannot be undone, and there will be a warning to that effect. A selective reading of metadata (for instance keywords only) is not possible.
So you have to import the metadata from Bridge as a first step right after importing the photo in Lr, and before you do anything in Lr.
The "metadata shuttle" works also from Lr to Bridge if you <Write metadata to file>.
Color labels will be imported correctly only if the textual descriptions for the individual labels are identical in Bridge and in Lr.

  • How do you import  (or convert) XMP metadata into iPhoto '08?

Having recently made OS X my primary operating system, I switched from using Picasa/Windows Photo Gallery on Vista to catalogue my photos to iPhoto '08. However, the 7,000+ pictures I have all have XMP metadata tags. None of them show up in iPhoto '08 after import. Needless to say, I am not looking forward to having to retag 7,000+ pictures in iPhoto.
I know people in various forums, here and elsewhere, have said that iPhoto '08 does not do XMP at all. Is this true? Is there a workaround or plugin? I find it weird that XMP has been an open standard since May, and 6 months later, there isn't a plugin or solution, especially from Apple. Unless I am just daft and missing something obvious, which is entirely possible.
At any rate, I would really appreciate any help in me not having to retag over 7,000 pictures...thanks in advance!

    mrbofus:
Do you still have the PC and the photos on it? If so you might look into the demo version of iView MediaPro and see it if can read those Picasa files and embed the metadata into the files like it can when reading an iPhoto library on the Mac platform. If it can, you'll be able to write the metadata to the files and bring them over again to the Mac and import into a new library. This is only speculation as I'm not conversant in Windows at all.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Loading metadata into EPMA applications using Interface tables-Automation

    Hi,
I am loading the metadata into epma applications using interface tables as ODI dont perit to load metadata into epma applications. Is there any way of using ODI and interface tables together to load the metadata
This process also need to be automated.

    Hi,
It is certainly possible and has be done, though there is not anything available that will do it for you, you will have to put in some effort learning the structure of the interface tables, then build interfaces and then a package in ODI to streamline the process.
    Cheers

    Hi,
I have installed OBIEE 111.1.1.6 on the sever and OBIEe client tools on my local desktop.
now when i am trying to import metadata into my rpd by connecting to database it shows me the error "Unable to connect"
can you please let me know if i am missing any prerequisties on my local desktop or any settings that i need to actualy srt importing?
    Please help me.
    Thanks

If the call interface is OCI, enter a full connect string or a net service name from the tnsnames.ora file you set up within the Oracle Business Intelligence environment, in ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.
If you are using a native interface for a different database, enter the name of the database for that system.
If the call interface is ODBC, the data source name field displays a list containing all the User and System DSNs defined for ODBC on the local computer. Select the correct one for the data source to which you want connect.
If it is helpful, please mark as correct or helpful
