Migrate my Library to Lion?

should i have migrated my LIBRARY when i got the migration options and if so is there a way to do this?
i seem to have only migrated Applications, Applications (Paralells), Desktop and Dropbox and I am now realizing that i have data in the Music folder (my iTunes library) and in Pictures (my Aperture Library) which I am going to move to another HD along with my DOCUMENTS, however I am realizing that I did not migrate my library...
TIA for any help.

If you haven't had this done yet, here is a way if you use Time Machine.
Back up everything from your Tiger Mac onto your Time Machine.
Plug it into your new Mac running Lion, open up migration assistant, you should be able to transfer everything from the time machine.
It's actually faster then using your network, I did Lion to Lion migration (over the network) and it took longer than Tiger to Lion migration using Time Machine.

Where can I find the USER LIBRARY in LION OSX?
    best wishes Barry.

You can reveal it permanently, if you prefer:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
         chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.

  • Jheadstart Migrating .pll library from designer

    Hello..
As teh library is concerned I have the total code for my forms in the library. The library contains all the trigger code on form level, block level and item level. This library contains the code for nearly 70-80 forms and the total business of the application is present in these forms.
As the forms internally call this library will I need to add the code manually in the java environment forms or can I migrate the library along with the form migration itself.
One more thing; I have a runtime database and designer database. After migration of the database how can I attach the generated Application with the runtime database so that I will be able to get connected to the database and retrive the existing data into the newly generated forms.
Hope to hear from you in this regard.

    Azher,
What JHeadstart migrates is the declarative, transactional behaviour of the blocks in the form. So basically the stuff that works without PL/SQL code. The J2EE architecture you are migrating to is very different from the Forms architecture. There are no form-, block- or item-level triggers, and what's more, there's probably code in those triggers that calls Forms built-ins that do not exist and have no replacement in the J2EE architecture we are using.
Therefore you will have to migrate any trigger/library logic that still makes sense to have in the new situation. Note that often not all code NEEDS migration, simply due to the fact that an HTML web application is a very different TYPE of application than a Forms client.
If you went overboard on 'thick-client UI features', where items and buttons are enabled/disabled/shown/hidden/coloured/filled with every action of the end user, you will either end up writing tons of javascript code, or you will give up and decide that an HTML application should not depend so heavily on this type of interaction.
For the code that you do want to migrate, the most important thing to do is to determine WHERE in the new architecture this needs to be implemented. You will have to think more in terms of 'migrating functionality' than 'migrating lines of code'.
I would recommend just trying the JHeadstart Designer Generator on a couple of Forms, running the application and determining what functionality is missing (compared to the original Form). Then you will need to think about where and how you would implement this functionality in the new architecture. Is is something that could/should be done in the ADF BC objects, or in the View pages, or in the controller, or perhaps a combination of those. Chances are that you will not even need to look at the original PL/SQL code that implemented this functionality in the Forms.
As to your question about connecting to your runtime database: the JHeadstart Designer Generator wizard will prompt you to create/specify two JDeveloper Database Connections, one to connect to the Repository, and one to connect to the runtime database. Your generated application will by default connect to the latter when running it. Of course this can be changed when deploying your application in another (production) environment.
This an much more information can be found in the JHeadstart Developers Guide, in the chapter on the Designer Generator.
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...
For a small company, if the Tiger server is running on a G4 Tower:
    -Roughly 500GB in user files
-Data resides on old-school ATA drives
    -OD Master - Kerberized
    -AFP
    -Mobile Homes
    -DHCP
    -DNS (for 2 domains)

    -Hosting website using MySQL
    -User & Computer Management
    Considerations/Hurdles/Challenges:
-Tossing old G4 into garbage, upgrading Mini client to Snow Leopard, adding Lion iMac client to the LAN
-Fresh OS installs on the Mini and iMac
-Upgrading from CAT5 to CATE on the LAN (not it the walls - just loose cables)
-All new hardware must be sourced out (take some time to price compare)
-Must find a way to transfer data from ATA drives to SATA drives or Lion Server
-Company must not have any email downtime (MX Records to be modified on DNS Providers site)
-Servers hostname goes from "companyserver.company.com" to "server.company.com"
    -ISP blocks some SMTP ports
-DNS Provider doesn't support TSL/SSL SMTP

That should just about cover it. I'll add any other details/hurdles as they come to mind.
Can you guys give me your best guesstimate as to how many hours you think this job should take? I'd appreciate any feedback as to how long you guys think it'd take you to make this transition. I'm trying to plan, and we're going to be down-and-out, the boss NEEDS to know for how long.!
    Thanks in advance guys!

It's about a gigabyte, so if you have a slow connection, it might take some time.
But - you shouldn't be getting the beach ball - that's a different thing.
Can you do open Activity Monitor, or is it stuck completely?

  • Migrate iTunes library from Windows to OSX

Hi all, just bought a new mac to replace my Windows PC and I want to get my iTunes library on it. Having a look around the net I found a few posts like this:

    and

which basically suggest just copying over the "itunes media" folder from my pc to the mac in the correct location and it should just work. As these two posts are both a bit old I thought I'd check up to see if there's a better way of doing it now or if that's still my best option.

  • Not enough disk space to migrate your library

When launch the new Photo app, and it attempts to migrate my iPhoto library, I receive the message:
״There is not enough disk space to migrate your library. It is estimated that you need at least 33GB of additional free space.
I have 47 GBs free on my main HDD, so I don't understand why this is an issue - anyone else seen similar?
I have a 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display with 256GB flash drive

I found a solution to this issue, just in case anyone is interested in the future.
Essentially, despite the fact that I freed up some disk space, the amount of free HDD space in About This Mac, and Disk Utility were still showing the "old" disk space. This is a known issue in that these numbers are gathered by the Spotlight index and are NOT a realtime snapshot. Photo's clearly uses the same view of available disk space.
It will eventually resolve itself over time (indeterminable, sorry), but if you want to force the recalculation of the free space, the solution is here:

    OK
    Here is a problem:

    Now what?
    Follow UP ---
I fixed the terminal error by repairing disk permissions...
Now I can see my users library, and I'm happy again.
Why would Apple choose to hide the Library in Lion?

  • Time Machine is stuck (blocked) since I migrated to OS X Lion / What are the tips ?

    Hi,
Since I migrated from SL to Lion on yesterday, Time Machine is stuck (my last - and only one backup in Lion is blocked at 17 kB whereas there still remains more than 17 GB to backup !).
I still can explore the backups by entering Time Machine but any new backup seems to be stuck.
Should I reformat my Time-machine USB external disk ?

  • Migrate back to Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
I have a small issue at hand - as a school we lease our Mac's and they are all preloaded with licensed software, however new replacement machines are running Mountain Lion. I cannot upgrade them without an Apple ID (the particular image is not supposed to ask for an ID, but it does in error)
Now some of my clients have gone and upgraded to Mavericks on their leased machine. I don't seem to be able to use Migration Assistant (via network) to Migrate from Mavericks -> Mountain Lion. The machines do not find each other. Is this by design?
If so its unfortunate, because I am only interested in migrating documents and leaving applications and system settings behind. Migration doesn't give me a 'document only option' during OSX downgrade, it just doesn't find the other machine.
Time backup the only option in this case? (or trying to upgrade target machines to Mavericks?)

    Thanks baltwo,
Unfortunately with several Mac's to migrate it will take too long with that process.
I will be encouraging our lease team to upgrade their image to Macericks, and will be doing a time-machine restore of documents only to the target machine.
I will answer myself and say no, migration will not work downlevel.

  • Forced to migrate to Icloud and Lion?

Why Apple customers accept being forced to migrate to Icloud and Lion (an OS with bad reviews) before the end of June when knowing that Mountain Lion will be available a few weeks later?

For the reviews on the App Store, people who have problems are the one's most likely to post. Millions of people out there didn't give their opinion. Lion has some problems like every other previous OS that came out and it's getting better with each new release. As others pointed out, SL was no different. I've read posts on every system that came out about how bad it was and they wanted to go back to the previous version.
For the loss of the MMe features, I can't do anything about that. I've never used MMe, but the only thing I see that's being lost is iDisk. Most unfortunate for those who use it, but surely it can be replaced. iCloud does provide other features that MMe didn't have.
Other than iDisk, you can still keep your .me address with SL and continue to use it. You don't have to transfer to Lion. The .me is IMAP and will sync between all devices.
For your question, I've never used iDisk personally. If you state exactly what your question and concerns are, someone else may have an answer.

How do I migrate iPhoto library from MacBook Pro to iMac and keep Events and Faces?

Copy the iPhoto Library package/file from your MBP to the iMac.  Connect the two Macs and drag from MBP to the iMac and place in the Pictures folder.  Or if you have an external HD use it to transfer the library between Macs. DO NOT try to import the MBP library into a library on the iMac.

  • Migrate iPhoto Library from my desktop to laptop

Currently, I have my iPhoto library with edits and albums on my desktop (iMac G4 1.25 GHz, 10.4.5, 5.0.4).
I am planning to stop using my desktop and am trying to figure out the best way to migrate this library as it is across to my wife's laptop (iBook G4 1.2GHz, 10.4.5, 5.0.4).
Any advice on the best way to do this?
Is there any way to simply sync the two iPhoto libraries?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Neil,
Copy iPhoto Library folder from one Mac to another
-If the library is small enough, burn the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to CD/DVD.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder from the CD/DVD to your Pictures folder of the iMac.
-If the computers are networked, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac.
-If you have an iPod, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the iPod. Connect the iPod to the other computer and copy the iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac.
-If you have a firewire cable, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto LIbrary folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac
    Things to keep in mind:
-If the usersnames are different you might have to set the permissions on the iPhoto Library folder to Read/Write for the new user. Check the "apply to enclosed items" at the bottom of the "get info" window.
-If there is another iPhoto Library folder on the other Mac, change it's name so it doesn't get replaced by the iPhoto Library folder you are copying into the Pictures folder...or....drag it to another place on your hard drive.

  • Migrate iTunes Library from old Leopard computer to new Lion

I am finally retiring my trusty old G5 desktop in favor of a new iMac with Lion in anticipation of iCloud this fall.
We have been using our G5 to sync and store all of the music and apps for the entire family for about 7 years.... Everyone's iPhone, iPod, and iPad is synced to the old computer.
How do I migrate all of this to the new computer??
I have tried to Migrate from my Time Machine Backup for the G5 (kept with this in mind) and Migration Assistant refuses to recognize the Time Machine disk. It shows on the desktop and in Time Machine on the new computer, so I am quite sure that it is attached!
I tried to copy and paste from the backup into the new computer's iTunes Library, but I am refused due to permissions problems. I assume this is for the purchased items from the iTunes store.
    Any suggestions??
    thanks
    Terri
