  • Migrating Netscape Directory Server 4.1 to a new server

    Hi,
In the current production environment, we are using Netscape Directory Server 4.1 as the authentication with Siebel CRM system. The server hardware is old and there is a need to refresh the server. As Netscape Directory Server is the only supported/ certified LDAP with embedded functionalities in Siebel Financial Services 6.0.2.300, we are planning to upgrade only the server hardware and migrate all the user information from old server and the new one, with Netscape Directory Server 4.1 remained.
I have studied the Netscape Directory Server 4.1 Deployment Guide and gone through the migration procedures, looks like the procedures are only applicable for migrating Netscape Directory Server to a newer version. There are no specific procedures mentioned for migrating Netscape Directory Server to the new server hardware with the same directory server version.
I am seeking for detailed procedures of migrating Netscape Directory Server 4.1 to a new server hardware with the same directory server. Anyone has done this migration before? I thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.
    Sincerely,
    Julie

Luckily, I have the technical documentation in hand, which contains all the configuration of the current server. So I need to use "db2ldif" to export the data. I am currently testing on the migration by following these steps:
    1. Install the new server.
    2. Stop the Netscape Directory Server and Netscape Administration Server services in old server.
    3. Copy the slapd-<server_name> folder from old server to a temp location of new server.
    4. Take the old server offline.
    5. Configure new server to have the exact configuration as the old server.
    6. Backup the existing slapd-<server_name> folder in new server, copy the slapd-<server_name> folder from the temp location to C:\Netscape\Server4 directory of new server.
    7. Start the Netscape Directory Server and Netscape Administration Server services in new server.
Will try out your suggested method. Thank you so much for your feedback.
    Regards,
    Julie

  • How can i migration netscape messaging 3.6 mailbox to iplanet messaging 5.2 mailbox

how can i migration netscape messaging 3.6 mailbox to iplanet messaging 5.2 mailbox

Once you have created all the users on the directory, you can use mboxutil and deliver, to copy the mails from one box to another. I have done this twice, but I can't send you the scripts for a legal problem.
If a user on the NMS3.6 use pop, there is only a folder called uid/inbox, with something like:
    ./uid/inbox/__VALIDITY__
    ./uid/inbox/__lock__
    ./uid/inbox/__deliver__
    ./uid/inbox/__GENNAME__
    ./uid/inbox/__highest__
    ./uid/inbox/20020106172021.AAA.4ce2af5a
    ./uid/inbox/20020106215444.AAA.4ce2af5a
    ./uid/inbox/20020106232803.AAA.4ce2af5a
    ./uid/inbox/20020106233026.AAA.4ce2af5a
All the files that begin with _ are useless. And the files like 200... are the emails. So you have the uid, and the files that you have to copy.
To deliver an email to a user, that user MUST have a mailbox. So first you have to create the mailbox, through execute "mboxutil -c user/uid/INBOX", after that you can copy the email using, "deliver -m inbox uid < ./uid/inbox/20020106172021.AAA.4ce2af5a".
You can use a script to first create all the mailboxes, after that you can deliver all the emails.
If your users use IMAP, then they can have differents folders, the idea is the same, first create all the folder(always create the INBOX first), in the _MAILBOX.LST file there is a list of the folders of every user.

  • Migrating Netscape Bookmarks

    Hi,
Received my new machine Thursday and am loving it! Upgrading from B&W G3 so unfortunately I can't use migration assistant as the G3 doesn't support Firewire target mode. Synced all my stuff through .mac and it was painless. Cloned my 2 hard drives from the G3 to and external HD and am moving it over and cleaning up.
My wife still uses the Netscape browser heavily and I need to move her bookmarks to the G5. I can't find those darn things! Can someone tell me where they are.
Will be surprising my stepson with a hand-me-down Mac tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
    Jim

    Good morning, Jim!
If the Mac version of Netscape is anything like the Windows version (I assume they're close), you have to actually open the Bookmark Manager (under the Bookmarks menu), and then in the Bookmark Manager you can select File -> Export Bookmarks.
Hope that helps out...best of luck!
    Cheers,
    Jason

  • Migrate netscape 4.12 schema to Sun One Directory server 5.2

I have a production environment with Netscape 4.12 Directory Server running. I need to migrate the production DS schema to a development server which hosts an Sun One 5.2 Directory Server.
How to perform this task. Thnaks in Adv.

Its going to be a manual process.
You need to identify what schema is missing, look up what that schema is on 4 then add it manually on 5.
There is no automated way to do it.
The easiest way to identify schema problems is to create a DS5 server instance and try to load an LDIF dump from DS4 into it. Just tackle the errors that you see, one by one ...

  • I received an error trying to migrate from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird on Windows 7 and my folders didn't migrate over. I get an error trying to import setting

I have windows 7 professional running MS office 2010. I have 3 email accounts that I send and receive mail. these are all IMAP accounts. I installed Thunderbird and tried to import everything and the contacts import ok (except for my icloud contacts) but there is an error when importing the settings. The mail seems to import fine however I can only access mail for one of the email accounts. The other two just show a folder and no subfolders in the mail tree iin the left pane.
When I try to look up the accounts, I only see one account configured, the other ones are not there

  • How do I migrate Thunderbird POP messages from my old Mac to my new Mac without going through gmail?

Bought new Mac last November. Need to migrate 5 years' worth of Thunderbird POP messages from my old Mac to my new Mac. For security reasons, I do NOT want to upload everything through gmail, but copy them directly through a flash drive. Don't know where to find the Thunderbird POP message files inside Mac OS. Help?

  • Thunderbird crashes when importing high amount of Outlook Express .dbx files.

    Greetings !
I'm trying to make a migration from Outlook Express to Thunderbird for a professional. His mail folder is made of around 1400 .dbx files (18GB of mails -woh-). Every time I'm trying to do the importation, Thunderbird crashes.
I think I should specify that this importation is happening on the new computer I set up and from the old hard drive.
I also tried importing small amounts : it worked but it's killing the file tree, which is not acceptable on a such amount of mails.
I found mention of an 'Undbx' software that could help me. I'll try it very soon and report.
I will provide a dxdiag.txt soon too, but I really think the PC is set up correctly (I have some experience in this domain).
Importing this mail folder is critical since it's a professional need, so I'm relying on you and deeply thank you for your effort here.
PS : English is not my native tongue, excuse the grammar and spelling mistakes.

    Dear Matt.
I can proudly announced the problem is solved !
In 'accounts settings' (not sure of my translation here), I set the mail storage folder to a new one, near the hard drive root, then launched the importation. And it went just well, keeping up the file tree and all.
Thank you a lot for the informations you gave me. I wouldn't have found out the path length is limited to 255 without you. '''You rock, sir !'''
    I owe you.
Keep up the good work. Thanks again.
    Sincerly yours,
    Jack
PS : Some information on this issue on the database would be welcome I think and I'd happily participate.

  • 10.5.3 update issue with netscape 7.2 and Mail wont import

After using software update to update to 10.5.3, I can no longer open my netscape 7.2, which I use for email still. (I know it's ancient) but now what? I can't get Mail to import my netscape mailboxes, it crashes. My time machine filled up my back up drive a month ago and I didn't sort that out, so my backup is older than I want to go and try to restore from a backup. Any ideas how to get netscape to work?
    thanks,
I can't get email right now

Netscape 7.2 is pretty old and quite likely isn't Leopard-compatible. You might instead want to take a look at Thunderbird, the modern email application from the developers of Netscape. I believe Thunderbird can import mailboxes and settings from Netscape, if memory serves. Firefox would be the web browser component if you want an alternative to Safari. If you really prefer to have a single application that handles both, as did Netscape, Seamonkey is the modern replacement for Netscape.
    Hope this helps.

  • Migration from Outlook Express loses everything after "group"

    Hello,
I migrated from Outlook Express to Thunderbird on XP, then moved the files to Windows 8.
I had one "group" in my OE address book. Nothing after that group name (which began with an H) was migrated into the new address book. In other words, I lost everything after H.
I also have these contacts on Gmail. Is there an easy way to retrieve them from OE (I guess I could delete the group and start over, but that's a long process and I fear losing the mail I've already sent on TB), or is there an easy way to get them from gmail?
    Thanks.
    S

there are several solutions to your problem, which is best for you I do not pretend to know.
There is the option of simply copying the WAB file from outlook express to Windows 7 asnd double clicking on it to have it imported to the windows contacts folder. I have instructions here http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/windows-contacts.html that include the windows contact folder into Thunderbird.
Alternatively you can install one of the gmail contact sync add-ons. I use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/google-contacts

  • Is there a .pst migration tool available?

I am migrating pop maliboxes (.pst) files onto our JMS server using IMAP and it is sluggish. The server is an x4140 (2 dual core processors) with 4GB RAM and SAS (SCSI) HDD's and yet over our 100Mb/s LAN it takes 2.5 hours to move 1GB (~5000 emails) up to the server. It only takes 17 minutes for Thunderbird to import them from the .pst file. Is there any tools that can migrate pst folders into a users mailbox from the server itself?

    ethoms wrote:
Whilst you are performing the migration, is the bottleneck Outlook,Thunderbird or Messaging Server i.e. are you seeing high CPU/I/O load
on the Messaging Server end or on the PC end?>
Bottleneck seems to be IMAP itself, or the performance of server, I have not checked the server's load whilst uploading. I would not know how to, in linux or Solaris Express I have 'top' command which would give me a rough idea. You can use the "prstat" command to check CPU utilisation.
In general I'm getting good performance from the comms suite, comms express is incredibly fast and normal usage of thick clients seems fine. The IMAP append operation which is used to copy emails using via the IMAP protocol is very write-I/O intensive as you need to write the actual message data and also perform multiple store database operations (new message, message IMAP flags). This means the speed and throughput of your I/O subsystem is essential.
You should always make sure that you have set the store.dbtmpdir configutil parameter to a temporary filesystem e.g.
    # ./configutil -o store.dbtmpdir
/tmp/msg-mailstore1This will help to reduce I/O load.
I do find that Outlook is more sluggish than it was with POP accounts though, tbird is much better IMAP client IMHO.No argument here.
It seem sto me it's the hand-shaking that is taking the time, not the data transfer. The IMAP client shouldn't be reconnecting for each new email that is being copied so there is no additional "hand-shaking" after the first message.
In that respect I would guess that 1GB of data in 200 emails would upload much faster than 1GB of data in 5000 emails, but that's just a guess.I would expect the same as you would also have much fewer IMAP flag operations.
I notice that in the outlook connector configurator it does support conversion/uopload of "Microsoft POP accounts" as well as Exchange. It supports "MS POP profiles" i.e. MS Outlook configured to use a POP account.
When I install the connector of these accounts it sometimes manages to transfer the contacts and tasks to the server, but not the email folders. Is it possible I just need to tweak the configurator a little more? There is an option to enable the conversion/upgrade of "MS POP" and "MS IMAP" profiles in the User Profiles tab in the latest version of the Outlook Connector (7.3 update 1). Have you selected both of these options?

    Shane.

  • BB10 and Thunderbird calendar

Hello - can you advise if BB10 can sync with Thunderbird calendar yet?
I am (either fortunately or unfortunately) not tech savvy, so i will attempt to describe what I see currently at my workplace.
We are currently in the process of migrating away from Outlook to Thunderbird, and according to our IT dept, the only device that they can support currently is iPhone (which I personally cannot support).
One of my team has purchased a Z10, and has his email working fine, but cannot get calendar sync to work.  An invite emailed to him will find its way into his BB calendar, but not events created from his desktop Thunderbird calendar.  I did a search of "Thunderbird" and cannot find any previous posts (and the ones that I did read are very technical in nature...).
I had a Z10 waiting for me on launch day, but have held off buying it until this gets resolved (and at this point might wait for the physical keyboard model).  I would like to stay with thre brand - I even went back to an older Bold when my Torch gave up the ghost last fall in anticipation of the new devices...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey neillt,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
To better assist you what type of email are you planning on setting up on the BlackBerry Z10? (Example: POP, IMAP, Active Sync) Depending on the type of email account you are setting up you may be able to synchronize your email and Calendar wireless.
    Thanks.

  • I want to use a Thunderbird address book folder to mail merge into MS Word letter [name, address]. How to?

I recently migrated from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird. I have contact folders. I publish a newsletter in MS Word. I want to mail merge my newsletter with now a specific contact database [folder] in the Thunderbird address book. So my question is, how to do this?

Unfortunately, the tight and smooth integration you have experienced between Outlook and Word is due to those two products having come from the same Office stable and having been designed from the outset for such interoperability. With Thunderbird coming from a third party author, there's not much incentive for Microsoft to support or encourage interchange of data between Office components and Thunderbird.
If you have Outlook and Word, what advantages do you anticipate in using Thunderbird? (Personally, I do exactly the same because I dislike Outlook and its Ribbon in particular). But I don't have much call for the sort of task you are attempting.
The long and short of it is that you'll probably have to export your TB Address Book to a format that your Word mail merge can use. Since I haven't tried this for myself in a long time, I don't know what Word can use. I'd hope that CSV would fit the bill.
If you are thinking about moving away from Microsoft Office, then you might look at Libre Office, which can, IIRC, use a data source such as Thunderbird's address book as a mail merge source. But this alone may not be a very good reason to move away from tools you know. :-S
