Hi,
how can I Migrate oracle 9i DB to 10g R2. ?What is the size of your database?
If your db size is small then you can use export/import.

    Hi,
Now I'm looking for positiv or negativ agruments and
reasons to migrate from 8i to 10g, could you help me?
    1. Extended Supports ends at 31.12.06, what means
this? could we continue to work without support>Remain on 8i: If data is not mission critical, If application code base is static, if data scale is manageable on existing hardware
Remaining on 8i is viewed as a LOW risk management position.
Upgrade to 10g: Technology change will occur between now and 2010. If the data is mission critical, the size of the data used will reguire new hardware, and upgrades to code base occur.... then it is possible for the 8i Oracle install to require a patch or upgrade to support NEW HARDWARE, NEW CODE FEATURES, GROWING SCALE and compexity of data.
    2. ... is there other agruments/reasons that we have
to consider if we don't migrate> (see above)
    3. ... is there other agruments/reasons that have a
"need" to migrate? 10g is a Modern-Robotic Database Management Platform.
    a. 1 Sr DBA can do the work of 3 mid-range dba (i.e. Due to the ease of backup-recovery, Tuning Advisors)
    b. FlashBack Recovery is a great up-time feature, table-row history
    c. dbms_pump: supper fast data load tool
    d. Many AutomatedPerformance tuning features: ADR, ADDM, ASM, improved Data Guard
    c. SQL enhancements such as regexp_like
    d. streams (etl tool)
    e. A LIVE 10g demonstation shows how different a platform 10g is than any other, very robot-like.

  • Migration: Oracle reports 6i to 10g issue - Diiference in the data

    Gudmorning everybody,
We are doing a Oracle reports migration from oracle reports 6i to oracle reports 10g.
I am facing a problem in the output generated ny the reports.
I have to generate a CSV file in 6i and similarly in 10g. Both the reports are hitting the same database but still it is
showing some difference in the count generated in the report.
Its a report where it compares the data from the web and data from the application and gives a count for the each row.
In the CSV creation procedure TABLE TYPe is used. I am not very good in Oracle procedures.
Do u guys have faced similar situation? Not every data is different, some of the count is diff even though both the reports are hitting the same database.
Anybody suggest me a solution. It will b really helpful. This happens when I am a giving 6 mnths date range. When it is 15 days range it shows proper output.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Raneesh.

I think Werner is suggesting you ask your question in the appropriate forum.
Go up 2 levels (to Community Discussion Forum) and look for the Database category. It's not that difficult to find, and you will be discussing the question with people who actually care about that kind of question.
The people who read and interact in this forum do so to discuss Documentation questions. Specifically questions about how to improve the documentaiton.

  • Complexities of Migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris to HP-UX Itanium

Can anyone share their experiences with regards to migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris on a Sun platform to HP-UX 11i v3 (Itanium) on HP Integrity servers. We are trying to consider all the risks associated with such a move. How much time delay did you experience in resolving unexpected issues along the way? How complex is the process? If you had to do it all over again, would you?
In addtion, we will also be migrating Oracle eBusiness Suite 11i (11.5.10.2).
    We appreciate your helpful feedback.
    Thank you.

    Here is more information:
    - the database size is currently about 500GB
    - our ASP allows us to be down as much as we want however the company's own needs can only allow a downtime window of two days (over the weekend)
    - i presume further that RMAN might be an option to use to backup the database and instance to some transportable media
    - it would take about four days to get that media from the ASP to our facility so durign that time the instance at the ASP would have to be used
    - after we get the backup media and load everything into our in-house site, our last step would be to find a way to migrate all changes over the WAN. I am told that unless the platforms are the same on both ends, mirroring will be extremely difficult or impossible. If we have a platform that is different from the ASP platform, then the migration of all changes will require conversion and other mechanisms. I am told that HP-UX has so much complexities that this will be a daunting task to accomplish.
Do you have any opinions and recommnedations?

  • Problem of Data Import/Export after migration of Oracle DB 9i to 10g

We have encountered the following problem after the migration of Oracle DB 9i to 10g R1 and ESRI ArcSDE 8.3 to 9.1.
In our development server, a view was created by joining of one feature class (point feature), two attribute tables and one F table. We have to perform a process to export all the features in that particular view from the development server and then import them to the production server. In total, there should be about 60,000 points.
Form our past experience (using Oracle DB 9i and ESRI ArcSDE 8.3); we spent about 15-20 minutes to complete the import-export procedure. However, after the system migration, the speed of the import-export procedures is extremely slow, which is talking about 2 hours for ONLY EXPORTING 5MB data.
We would like to seek advice in solving the above problems. THANKS!

Try to delete old stats, then gather new stats on the schema and try the export again.

  • Migrate Oracle 9i Database to Oracle 10g Solaris Platform

    Hi DBAs,
Thank you very much all of you, you helped me in RMAN Duplicate Database, There was a problem in my backupset and now it has been resolved.
    I have now following task.
I want to migrate Oracle 9i Database to Oracle 10g ASM, both are on Solaris platform. Please provide me step by step solution. I have very big Database about 250G Database.

In the "Complete checklist for manual upgrades to 10gR2" is written:
    PREREQUISITES
    =============
+ Install Oracle 10g Release 2 in a new Oracle Home.
+ Install the latest available patchset from Metalink.
+ Install the latest available Critical Patch Update.
... so "Install the latest available Critical Patch Update" step is that for the Oracle 10g database Oracle Home or Oracle 9i database Oracle Home ? I think that is for the 10g database/ Oracle Home ...
after applying the CPU pacht there is some "Post Installation Instructions":
3.3.5 Post Installation Instructions which demande a connection to the database:
    3. For each database instance running out of the ORACLE_HOME being patched, connect to the database using SQL*Plus as SYSDBA and run catcpu.sql as follows:
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\CPU\CPUJan2007
    sqlplus /nolog SQL> CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    SQL> STARTUP
    SQL> @catcpu.sql
    SQL> QUIT
My question is ... If I want to upgrade a 9i database to 10g and I apply this CPU before the upgrade is done (to 10g Oracle Home), how could I connect to an instance which is not present to run this script ? ... is this step mandatory or is optional ?
    Thanks,
    P.

  • Migration Oracle 8 client to oracle 10g client

    Hi,
is there any way to migrate oracle client 8 to oracle client 10g?
    Regards.

If you are talking about the client, there is not migration or upgrade path. Just install the 10g client at a new Oracle Home.
if you are talking about consideration on scripts, you must bear in mind, from the administrative point of view, that 8.0 used to work with the svrmgrl administration interface (instead of sqlplus) it required the connect internal instead of the connect / as sysdba, and the way it used to connect to the database was by means of the SID in the connect descriptor, instead of the SERVICE_NAME.
You must make sure that all the applications that used to work with the 8.0 client are compatible and certified to work with the 10g libraries.

    Hi,
u can go for any of the migration steps provided by oracle..say
    1.By using DBUA
2.By using PL/SQL scripts provided by oracle like utlu102i.sql

  • Getting Error While Opening the Oracle Form 6i in 10g

    Hi All ,
FRM-10102: Cannot attach PL/SQL library XXX. This library attachment will be lost if the module is saved.
I am getting above error message while opening Oracle 6i Form in 10g.
I get the following Alert message when I try to attach the library to my form -
    Attached library name
S:\.........xxx.pll contains non-portable directory specification. Remove path? Yes/No?
If I select 'No', the Form compiles and runs without any error.
But if I select 'Yes', I get the following error message:
FRM-40039: Cannot attach library xxx while opening form.
All files (fmb, fmx, pll, plx) are on the same path. I detached and then re-attached the library but this didn't work for me?
    Help Appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ram.

use the shiped batch program frmplsqlconv.bat to convert all your forms/librarys from Forms 6i to 10g.
you can call it in wizard mode from the start menu (e.g. OracleDeveloperSuite <OraHome> => Forms Developer => Forms Migration Assistant (GUI Mode) and follow the instructions step by step
or you can call it by batch to convert all your forms/librarys. The batch file is found in
    <ORA10g_HOME>BIN\frmplsqlconv.bat
    =>
    frmplsqlconv.bat <formname>

  • Hotkey (Ctrl+B) is not working after migration from Forms 6i to 10g

    Dear Gurus,
Need your help regarding the following problem:
After migrating from Forms 6i to 10g (Rel 2), Ctrl+B (used to list the blocks in a form) hotkey is not working anymore (all other hotkeys are working fine). I've checked my FMRWEB.RES and it contains an entry for Ctrl+B:
    66 : 2 : "Ctrl+B" : 70 : "Block Menu"
    Additional Information:
    OS: AIX
    NLS_LANG = UTF8
fmrweb_utf8.res also contains the same text for Ctrl+B as above.
I tried to reproduce it on my Windows Machine (with NLS_LANG set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1) and its not working as well. I don't have right to put move files on AIX server but i can try anything (on my local system) suggested by the Oracle gurus.
    Best Regards,

    Dear Gerd,
"are you sure, that it is the hotkey"
Yes, i am dead sure. Since:
    (1) It was working fine in forms 6i
    (2) If you run a form and select Help => Keys, you will see Ctrl+B on the top of list
The problem is its not taking into account the keys which i am defining in the file (although i am following the same procedure detailed on metalink.oracle.com).
