Migrate Oracle Rac 11.1.0.6 SE to Oracle Rac 11.2 EE

Hi,
is there some guideline to migrate e 11.1.0.6 RAC Standard Edition with ASM to a 11.2.0 RAC Enterprise Editon?
Database is almost 800gb, index included.
Some best practice? Some suggestion? Some links?
Thanks in advance,
Samuel Rabini

Or from 11.1.0.6 Standard to 11.1.0.6 Enterprise.
I can find anything on internet to do such a migration.
Thanks in advance.

  • Migration from Progress (version 8.36 - 9.1) to Oracle 8i or 9i

Hi all, I am trying to migrate data from Progress version 8.36 above to Oracle 8i and possibly 9i in the future. Has any of you implemented this before or know where I can get valuable hands on information or link on how to do this, especially the obstacles and issues involving this migration.
    Thanks

    Phil,
There is an informix 7 oracle migration workbench plugin and related documentation for informix 7 to oracle8i and oracle9i. In the oracle workbench download area.

  • Migrating Functions that return TABLE from SQL Server to Oracle

I have some functions in SQL Server that return a TABLE datatype. When these functions are moved to Oracle 9i using Migration Workbench, they give compilation errors. In the migrated function it says that the DDL stmt is passed to the ddl file, but the table is not created. I checked the ddl stmt for temporary tables and it is wrong. Its a create table stmt with no size for varchars and we can't even edit these stmts in the workbench.
Also the migrated function has the table name for return type, which doesn't works in Oracle. Oracle needs a datatype to be returned from Oracle.
How do we return a table from a function?

    Yes.
If you do not enclose the object names (table/view/index etc) in double-quotes, they are stored in uppercase format in the data dictionary.
If you enclose them in quotes, they are stored in the same case ans you entered. As such, while accessing such objects, you need to tell Oracle not to convert the names to uppercase, hence the requirement to supply the names in quotes.

  • Oracle Applications 11i Load Balancing does not work with RAC one Node

    Hi all,
Could you help me to resolve this issue.
    Architecture environment is :
    - One APPS tier node
    - Two nodes Oracle Database Appliance (Primary node 1 holds INSTANCE_1 et Secondary node is configurured to holds INSTANCE_2), i.e RAC one Node.
    - The primary node have instance_name SIGM_1 and the secondary node have instance_name SIGM_2, but in RAC one node, the secondary instance is not alive.
We convert our EBS 11i environment to RAC following note ID Using Oracle 11g Release 2 Real Application Clusters with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 823586.1].
When testing Database failover, Oracle Applications 11i load balancing does not work anymore.
The root cause is that, when the primary node of the Rac one node is down, the INSTANCE_NAME_1 is automaically relocating to the surviving node,.
During test failover, we imagine that when the primary node goes down, the secondary node start or relocate database with instance_name SIGM_2, and in that case the Oracle Applications load balancing works.
Currently, when the primary node goes down, the instance_name SIGM_1 is relocated on the secondary node, which cause failure of Oracle Applications Load Balancing.
    Thank you for your advice.

This is something I observed a long time ago for Safari (ie: around version 1). I'm not sure this is Safari, per se, but OpenSSL that is responsible for the behavior. I'm pretty sure Chrome does this and I've seen some Linux browsers do it.
What I have done at the last two companies I've worked for is recommend that our clients do not use SSL SessionID as the way of tracking sticky sessions on web servers, but instead using IP address. This works in nearly all cases and has few downsides. The other solution is to use some sort of session sharing on your web servers to mitigate the issue (which also means that your web servers aren't a point of failure for your users' sessions). (One of the products I supported had no session information stored on the web servers, so we could safely round-robin requests, the other product could be implemented with a Session State Server... but in most cases we just used IP address to load balance with). The other solution is to configure your load balancer to terminate the SSL tunnel. You get some other benefits from this, such as allowing your load balancer to reduce the number of actual connections to the web servers. I've seen many devices setup this way.
One thing to consider through this is that - due to the way internet standards work - this really can't be termed a bug on anyone's part. There is no guarantee in the SSL/TLS standards that a client will return the same SSL Session ID for each request and there is not requirement that subsequent requests will even use the same tunnel. Remember, HTTP is a stateless protocol. Each request is considered a new request by the web server and everything else is just trickery to try and get it to work the way you want. You can be annoyed at Safari's behavior, but it's been this way for over 5 years by my count, so I don't expect it to change.

  • Migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal

Hi, I'm in charge of evaluate the viability of a project that comprises the migration from Sun Java System Portal Server to the Oracle Portal. so I'm wondering if there is a kind of out of box migration tool in Oracle Portal or exists some guidelines to do the migration. In the other hand there is the option of migrate from Sun Java System Portal Server to Oracle WebCenter?
    Thanks in advance!

The migration path for Sun Portal Server is Oracle WebCenter Suite. WebCenter is a significantly different architecture so there are no tools planned for the migration. However, we do plan to document and publish a whitepaper once we've assisted a few of the initial customer migrations.

  • Migration upgrade from albpm 5.7 to 6.5/Oracle 10g

    Hi !
We need to upgrade our current ALBPM bpm 5.7 deployment into portal 6.0, to Oracle 10g/bpm6.5.
    1) Does this need to be a two step process. Upgrage from 5.7 to 6.0 and then again from 6.0 to Oracle10g/BPM6.5?
    2) Is there any documentation regarding upgrade from ALBPM 5.7 to Oracle 10g or from ALBPM 6.0 to Oracle 10g?
    3) What is the portal version supported with ALBPM 6.5/Oracle 10g? Will ALBPM 6.5/Oracle 10g run on Portal 6.1 ?
If anybody has any upgrade experience or can point any ALBPM upgrade related doc.
    Please respond.
    Thanks and regards
    Manoj

    Manoj,
Currently the upgrade process is from one version to its direct following version. We are looking forward to implement a straight migration from ALBPM 5.7 to Oracle BPM 10gR3, but this does not have a firm timeline yet. If you are urged to migrate, you will need to first migrate from ALBPM 5.7 to ALBPM 6.0 and then from ALBPM 6.0 to OBPM 10gR3. If you are only migrating your project source code without in flight instance migration, you may want to attempt the export of your projects in ALBPM 5.7 and then import them directly into OBPM 10gR3.
As per the migration documentation, you may want to check in the eDocs for ALBPM 6.0 and OTN for OBPM 10gR3.

  • Migrate Sun Cluster (+RACdisks to new hardware running Sun Cluster ( + RAC)

    Hello,
We have old hardware (v490s) running Sun Cluster 3.2 + Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4.0 connected to SAN. We need to move to T4. Oracle advised against including new hardware into existing cluster, so we are planning on building a new cluster with T4's, same software (Solaris 10, Sun Cluster 3.2, RAC 10.2.0.4.0).
When ready, we plan to shut down existing cluster, zone new cluster to existing disks and bring up everything on new hardware (simply stated).
    Will it work?
Any gotchas - like need to clear disk ids or Sun Cluster panicking? RAC panicking? Any reference docs out there?
    Thanks
    user12961096

Do we absolutely need that in our new setup or could we forgo that additional layer? Would Sun Cluster give us anything that the OS + RAC doesn't give us?Yes, Oracle Solaris Cluster does make things a lot easier. It looks after your device space and gives you consistent DID devices for CRS/RAC. It gives you the choice to use sQFS, raw metasets, or ASM. It has clprivnet which is a lot easier and performs better than an IPMP solution. The node failure detection time is <= 10 seconds which is quicker than CRS on it's own and it uses SCSI fencing instead of a STONITH approach. Finally, you have all the off the shelf agents that Solaris Cluster offers.
However, if you are only doing RAC and you just want ASM and you don't need the last few seconds of failure detection that OSC gives you and you think STONITH is good enough for your fencing purposes, then CRS on its own is perfect. There are many, many deployments both with and without OSC, it's not a simple yes/no answer.
Having worked for the Solaris Cluster group, I'm still slightly bias to including it rather than going without. Others have the alternate view! :-)
    Hope that helps,
    Tim

  • Migrating 3 Gig Sun Sybase Hyperion db to HP Oracle

I am trying to get a sense for how long this project will take using the Migration Workbench. An insight to timelines would be much appreciated. I will need to migrate the database as is to an oracle environment to rest as a query only db. Any feedback on how easy or difficult the Migration Workbench was to setup? and also migrate databases? Thanks in Advance - Jeff

Something in writing from someone authorized by Oracle -- e.g. someone in Licence Sales -- would stand in a court of law.
Nevertheless, if you want "different inputs" from here :
Oracle licences by the number of cores.  Off hand, since the number of cores is different, the licence count is not the same.  However, Oracle also has "core scaling factors" (called Oracle Processor Core Factor Table) for different types of CPUs.  You should see the Software Investment Guide at http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/index.html and Oracle Database Licensing under Specialty Topics from the same URL.

I have no idea what "Oracle Hetrogenius Services" is, so I can't help you with that, sorry.
SQL Developer might also assist you. SQL Developer can connect to SQL Server as well as Oracle and has some tools for migration. See the documentation for details:

  • Upgrade ASM Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 to ASM Oracle 11G R2 on Windows 2008 SP2

Please advice on procedure or where I can find information on upgrading ASM from Oracle 10G to Oracle 11G R2 (Winwdows 2008 SP2 64bit environment) for mutiple Oracle instances (not a RAC environrment).
The current scenario is as follow:
    - Two oracle homes; one for ASM instance and another for the Oracle Databases (in current case only two oracle instances possiblly more at a later time). Both (ASM and Oracle databases) have the same version of Oracle 10.2.4.0.
The Oracle database home can't be upgraded due to application restricition (Vendor Application not tested on Oracle 11G) but will like to upgrade the ASM instance to Oracle 11G (Oraclle 11G R2).
    Questions:
    - Is is a feasable solution? Can I upgrade ASM instance to Oracle 11G R2 to take advantage of new features? Will the ASM upgrade scenario is compatible with the Oracle Database Instance running Oracle 10G? Any possible issues that I should be aware or concerns?
Is it possible to have ASM running in Oracle 11G R2 and service the need of Oracle database instance running in 10G?
Please advice or where I can obtained information on the matter. Also possibly if someone has done it on Windows 2008 SP2 (not Windows 2008R2).
    Thanks in advance

Thanks so I can upgrade the ASM Home instance and leave the Oracle Databases home on Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I agree with you not just 100%, actually 120%. Fortunately, the vendor is finally understanding by pressure provided by DBAs and Application Teams that they are very behind the curve. It is working and by summer we should have an oracle 11G compatible product.
The same thought went when I was told of their compatability database level.

  • Oracle 8.1.7.2.1 upgrade to Oracle 9

Oracle 8.1.7.2.1 upgrade to Oracle 9
I'm doing a manual migration to Oracle 9
When I do a shutdown immediate, and use the datafiles to do a clone, I find the database is not consistent when I do a Startup Migrate.
Is this a problem with this version of Oracle 8? Startup migrate will not let me do a open resetlogs...anyone got any suggestions thanks

    Jeremy
    From your question
    - "Is this a problem with this version of Oracle 8? Startup migrate will not let me do a open resetlogs" -
what I guess you are doing is after cloning, you have tried starting Oracle using the same old Oracle 8.1.7 home. You need to make sure that that you change your oracle home to the new 9i home after you have cloned your files.
Also ensure that all required parameters are changes in the initialisation parameter (e.g COMPATIBLE) and those that relate to directories have changed to new. Also that all orace ENV (ORACLE_HOME, PATH, ORA_NLS33, LD_LIBRARY_PATH) point to the new 9i home.
Then try the STARTUP MIGRATE and run the upgrade script.

  • Get date from Oracle when local time zone is different from Oracle time zon

    Hi!
    Local machine time zone= +2
    Oracle time zone= +1
I set date to Oracle using java.sql.Date.
From application I save date at 00:30 clock and send e.g. 28.06.2002, but in Oracle date is save as 27.06.2002 01:00 (hour=01 , I suppose that is because java.sql.Date hasn't time the Oracle set it time = time zone=+1) And when I get date from Oracle I get incorrect date. In SQL I don't use date masks. Maybe solution is to use java.sql.Timestamp object (when save date to Oracle) instead of java.sql.Date?
But if I save date at e.g. 01:00 clock and send e.g. 28:06.2002 in Oracle, date is save as 28.06.2002 01:00 and when I read from Oracle I get correct date.

  • Oracle 10g (10.1.3.1.0) ant-oracle-classes.jar

    Hi,
I dint find Ant Task for stopping/starting/restarting the Oracle Application Server, but the http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/web.1013/b28951/anttasks.htm#BEIHFIIC specifies that you can do so with the Ant Tasks. I went through "ant-lib.xml" present in the ant-oracle-classes.jar, even it does not have these tasks.
Is it by any chance that Oracle shipped a wrong library of "ant-oracle-classes.jar" in Oracle 10g (10.1.3.1.0) is with that of Oracle 10g Release 3 (10.1.3), since this Release 3 does not support the stopping and starting of the server with the Ant tasks.
If any one has any idea, please let me know.
    Whom should I report/ask?
Can anyone give some pointers for the same. I would be very very thankful.
    Rgds,
    Prashanth Babu.

    Thanks a lot Mike.
But then, the problems donot stop there.
I went though the decompiled code of JSR88StartServer.java and JSR88ShutdownServer.java and found that doStartServer() of JSR88StartServer and doShutdownServer() of JSR88ShutdownServer, both call only one method ie deploymentManager.shutdown(), which is present in J2EEDeploymentManager class.
Ideally, JSR88StartServer should start the server by invoking deploymentManager.restart(). But then, looks like there is a problem here too, since both these methods simply call shutdown only.
And also, whenever I tried restarting the App Server from EnterpriseManager Console, it never restarts. It simply stops and does not do anything apart from that.
Iam in a project where our applications have to be up and running on OAS 10g through automation of deployment ie either thru Ant Tasks or the J2EE Deployment API provided by Oracle. But, both the ways, it looks like there are one-too-many hurdles.
Any inputs to the same would be of great help.
I would just like to know, if any one has done the above. Please let me know.
    Rgds,
    Prashanth Babu.
