Migrate outlook 365 POP Accounts to Exchange online

Hello... my client would like to migrate a number of Outlook 365 POP3 users (non microsoft ISP) to the
Office 365 small business environment and Exchange Online.  Can you provide me with
a migration overview/plan to accomplist this?
Additonal questions...
1). can I have Outlook 365 small business configured to support both POP and Exchange accounts?
2). how can I switch user1 at mycompanydomin dot com from the current ISP to the Exchange account?
3). can I use email forwarding (old POP ISP) to the Exchange account as a temporary migration measure?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Rich

Hi, first of all let me tell that the process from the ECP will create a single batch job for cutover migration, secondly, the process will consist of migrating Exchange mailboxes, contacts and Distribution Groups but the source content will remain as is
not a cut/paste operation.
If you want more info about the process I recommend you to read the following:

Wondering how to create new folders for my Outlook 365 mail account. I know with pc all I had to do was to left mouse click.
    Any suggestions?

New folder where? If you added the account in Mail app it should of created the folders to store that email automatically.
What email program are you using?

  • FYI: Confirmed flaw with Outlook Auto-Complete lists w/Exchange Online

Ever since our organization migrated to Exchange Online we noticed a flaw with how Outlook's Auto Complete list (nickname cache) operates.  We've finally gotten a confirmation from Microsoft that the following is indeed a problem:
Each entry in a user's local Outlook auto-complete cache is represented by an LDAP distinguished name.
When Exchange is hosted on-premises these entries pretty much never change.
When your organization is hosted on Exchange Online, the distinguished names for your mailboxes can change without notice due to maintenance processes (Microsoft's engineers have confirmed this to be true).
There are other ways that a mailbox's distinguished name can change (re-creating a mailbox, etc.)
Outlook's local auto-complete cache has no way (currently) to reconcile changes should any of its entries' distinguished names change in the cloud.
When the entries in the local auto-complete cache become "stale" the following may happen:
Emails to affected recipients can bounce back.
Emails to distribution groups containing members which have stale auto-complete entries can bounce back.
On occasion no NDR is even generated (BIG PROBLEM).
As noted above, we've gotten Microsoft to admit that this is indeed a problem with Outlook when combined with Exchange Online. I was told that the Outlook product team has been notified of this problem.  However, in order to escalate this issue I was
asked to spread the word to other customers so they can also chime in if they've been affected.
Please supply your feedback to Microsoft and ask that Outlook be enhanced to either reconcile the local auto-complete list with the online GAL, or provide some sort of notification to the user that an auto-complete entry has become "stale" or invalid.
    Thanks for everyone's time!

    Hi,
There is nothing called as Outlook's local nick-name cache. This resides on the mailbox and not outlook and supports only 1000 entries only. If the entries exceeds 1000 it will not function correctly.
After the .nk2 file has been imported into your mailbox, Outlook writes a value into a hidden message in your mailbox.
To locate this property in MFCMAPI, open the
Associated Contents table of the Contacts folder. Then, select the message with
    Subject = IPM.Configuration.ContactPrefs.
Then, double-click the PR_ROAMING_DICTIONARY property to see the configuration setting nickname cache import. The value to examine is
pImportedContactNickNames (True = the import has already occurred).
Since you are facing issues at this point of time, it needs to be corrected. I would appreciate if you can open phone support case with O 365 team and ask them to escalate to Exchange Level , we should be able to work with
    you and correct the issue
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Fetching of attached files delayed, minutes-hours in Outlook 2011 for Mac from Exchange online

    Hi,
I have an annoying problem I would be grateful if someone could solve.
I run Outlook 2011 for Mac which is synced towards Microsoft Exchange online. Everything works well except when there are attached files in incoming emails.  Sometimes it can take up to hours before an attached file is available (the email as such is
available immediately), however luckily it is mostly done within 5-10 minutes. Meanwhile the notification bar switch between "Awaiting synchronisation for this folder" and "Fetching attached files...". There is no actual difference between
larger and smaller files and there is also no problem sending emails with attached files, they are sent immediately.
I have tested in different locations with good connections to rule out unstable internet connection without success.
Thanks for any help with this issue!

    Hi,
Since this is the forum supporting Office for Windows, if you want to receive more information about Office 2011, I recommend you post this problem in Office for Mac forum:

  • Migrate Office 365 To On-Premise Exchange 2013

    hello
My client attempts to migrate the mailboxes hosted from Office 365 to Exchange 2013 on-premise hosted in the client's company.
However, despite all attempts , it appears that no procedure works correctly. All's time , something wrong appears Inside the process.
Indeed, on Office 365 we don't see the servers in our on-premise exchange 2013.
the Exchange Hybrid are set correctly and to exchange 2013 migration attempts to run Office 365. (MRS proxy select)
All servers are in the same Update. My client can't update with the last CU6 all server and want to stay with the CU3
Thanks for your read and for your help
    Best regard
    Alexis

    Bonjour,
" My client can't update with the last CU6 all server and want to stay with the CU3"
C'est par contre un point plus que géneant, le CU3 n'est plus supporté par MS, la compatibilité avec O365 n'est donc pas garantie.

  • Moving to Exchange Online from SBS 2003/Exchange 2003 using PST files instead of cut over migration?

I have a friend who runs a small company with approximately 10 users.  They are currently using Small Business Server 2003 and are using Exchange 2003 to a limited degree.  They are using POP accounts with a hosting company for external email and
are using Exchange for internal email and calendar sharing.  They have several different versions of Outlook including 2003, 2007, and 2010. Most of the users have two mail accounts configured in Outlook - one Exchange account and one account with a hosting
company which provides POP mail boxes.  Their MX record currently points to the hosting company not their exchange server.  As far as I know, they do not have any static IP addresses or if they do, they are not using them.
I do not believe Outlook versions about 2010 will work with Exchange 2003 and their server is getting older and probably needs an upgrade.
I think they should probably move to Exchange Online since they do not have an IT person on staff.
I've done some research and it looks like the recommended solution is a cut-over migration from Exchange 2003 but it looks like that would require some changes to the existing SBS 2003 / Exchange 2003 server and I'm not sure that we would be comfortable
    making those changes.
Would it be possible to sign-up and create the user accounts using Exchange Online and just import the data from the user's PST files?
I tried doing some research it looks like it is possible but one post mentioned needing to modify the mailbox’s legencyDN or they may not be able to reply to old messages.  How difficult is that?  Can it be done after the messages have been migrated
    to Exchange Online.
They only have about 10 users so we are looking for the simplest way to move to Exchange Online, not necessarily the fastest or most efficient.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to migrate Exchange 2003 Public Folders to Exchange Online. We can get following messages from this article:
    Public Folders in Exchange Online
You can’t migrate public folders directly from Exchange 2003. If you’re running Exchange 2003 in your organization,
you must move all public folder databases and replicas to Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. No public folder replicas can remain on Exchange 2003.
It seems that can’t migrate on-premise Exchange 2003 public folders to an Office 365.
    àOn the client
side we are using Exchange 2007
Did you mean Outlook 2007? Please refer to the following thread and check if can help you.

  • Migrating emails from Symantec Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online

    Hi
I am in the process of planning a migration from on-premises Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online in Office 365. The on-premises Exchange environment is using Symantec Enterprise Vault v9 for archiving emails older than a certain number of months.
I am planning to use the cutover migration method to migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online. What is the best way to migrate email from Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online? Will the E-mail Migration Tool in Exchange Control Panel do the job or will a third
party tool need to be used?

You have a few options ...
a/ Export all the mail from each archive to a PST file, and then import that in to Exchange, or Office 365.
b/ Export all the mail from each archive back to the original mailbox.
c/ Use a third party tool, like Archive Shuttle from QUADROtech which can migrate directly to Office 365 from Enterprise Vault.
    Hope that helps,
There are other migration solutions out there as well from TransVault and NUIX.

  • Stuck PublicFolderMigrationRequest from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online

I am following this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj983799(v=exchg.150).aspx

    Hi,
The migration request reached a status of Queued, it meant that the command started successfully.
What's the size of your public folders? If it's large, it may need to take some time to parse the folders.
When using the new-publicfoldermigrationrequest cmdlet to migrate public folders, I recommend you use the LargeItemLimit parameter to specify the number of large items to skip if the request encounters such items.
Have you tried to restart the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication Service? If not, please restart the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication Service to check the result.
Please check the application log to see if there is any related events.

  • Connect Outlook 365 to Mail

I tried adding my Outlook 365 email account to the Mail account on my computer when I input the email address and password it says that the Exchange server "null" is not responding. I am connected to the network connection and waited for awhile, but am still unsuccessful, any help?

    Hi,
According to your description, it seems like 3rd app process startup with Windows caused this problem.
In my opinion, it would be better to use Autoruns to check Window Startup items if there is any IE activX start with IE.
    Download Autoruns:

Pleasse use Autoruns to check system startup items carefully, and try to remove 3rd items for test.

  • Outlook 2013 with exchange online account disconnected, tryin to connect for hours or indefinitely

I posted this in another forum (office 365) and was told to copy it here as it wasn't an office 365 issue so here is what I posted there:
    ===================================
Let me see if I can clarify better. This issue has been ongoing as long as I have worked for this client (I started in January but have been told the issue has been going on since before November of last year). The client has multiple construction sites
and its headquarters. There is a remote desktop server setup with a public IP address for the users "in the field" for accessing network resources at headquarters. At major construction sites (currently 3) they have high speed internet service installed
since the projects typically are 1+ years to complete. So at current times we have the following:
    Main office:
Remote Desktop Server with logins for all employees
    Main 2012R2 server
50MB/s internet connection via CenturyLink ISP
    Site 1:
3 main users of computers. 1 constant user, 2 minimal use users. All 3 have experience the issue 3+ times a week
    Comcast 50MB/S ISP
    Site 2:
3 Main users of computers. 1 constant, 2 medium use users. All 3 experience the issue 3+ times a week
    Comcast 50MB/s ISP
    Site 3:
4+ computer users. 1 constant, 2 medium use users and the rest check email couple times a day. They also experience the disconnect issue 3+ times a week
15 MB/S DSL from CenturyLink ISP
There have been instances where (as examples) user 1a called me to tell me it was happening. Users 1b and 1c were not experiencing the issue. I was able to use a remote tool called Teamviewer to connect to her computer. Once connected I tried to open OWA
but it would not connect. I tried to ping the site and could not get a response. To verify I remoted into user 1b computer and his outlook was still connected and pinged fine. Both users being at the same site are on the same network. Had user 1a remote desktop
into the RDserver at the main office. Remoted into the server at the office her outlook on that machine connected no issues (in my mind rules out account issue?).
I don't believe it is network related due to the other computers working fine and being able to connect to her computer indicated to me that her NIC was fine. I don't think it was her account because it worked fine from the RD Server plus email service to
iPads/iPhones continue to work without issue. Once the computer is rebooted everything works fine for a while (could be hours, could be days).
Now to answer the questions for you:
    1. it happens to all computers not at the main office but happens at random times to them. It also does not affect every computer at a remote location. It could be 1 or it could be multiple computers at the same time.
    2. Affected users iPhones, iPads and outlook 2013 pro session on the RD Server at the main office continue to work no issues.
    3. They cannot get to OWA on their machines when in that state, however can log into OWA on another machine plus the answer to #2 above.
    4. It is all users at those locations, however I have experienced it myself at my house 1 time since January (I have a different exchange online plan/company than the one I am discussing in this post). The issue is random and it is uncertain if it will correct
itself if left sitting long enough (longest time it has been left is about 20 minutes or so) however even 20 minutes is a long time to wait for the service to return so users just reboot.
Please let me know If you have any solutions/ideas.
    Thanks,
    Brandon Smith

    ====================================
    Hi Branon,
    Thanks for your detailed information.
After going your post carefully, I am impressed by your strong technical skills. Regarding “I don't believe it is network related due to the other computers working fine and being able to connect to her computer indicated to me that her NIC was
fine. I don't think it was her account because it worked fine from the RD Server plus email service to iPads/iPhones continue to work without issue. Once the computer is rebooted everything works fine for a while (could be hours, could be days)” ,
I go along with you. Since the affected account could connect to other clients without issue , it indicates Office 365 account is no problem. And other computer were working fine and can connect to her computer, it shows the network environment does not cause
the issue. In this situation, the issue should relate to the specific Outlook Client. However this forum mainly focuses on Office 365 online services, to get more accurate responses, it’s suggested that you raise the problem in the Outlook forum. If they got
any result and you need further assistance from Office 365 side, please feel free to let us know.
In addition, about “I have had the users try to use OWA when it gets disconnected but they cannot get to that URL either. IE comes up with page not found”, I’d like to collect some information:
    1. Does the issue only happen to IE? Have you tried logging in other browsers using the OWA address (like Chrome or Firefox)? Does it work?
    2. Does only this user have the issue? Does it happen to other users?
    3. Which version of Internet Explorer browser does the user use?
    4. Could you provide us with the whole screenshot of the error message? You can post screenshots in our forum by clicking Use rich formatting and selecting the Insert Image icon.
Also, please try the following steps for troubleshooting:
    a. Clear the IE caches and cookies when you log into Office 365 again.
    b. Use the InPrivate Browsing of Internet Explorer to login.
    c. Reset Internet Explorer’s settings, and try again.
    d. Try to login in another network environment.
If there is any update, please let us know. I ’ll keep on monitoring this thread.
    Best regards,
    Jamie
    ===============================
As of today we still randomly experience this disconnect issue. Just today I had my test user call me to say she was disconnected. She is in location 2 where I have a test laptop also setup with her logged in. When she called I had her check the test laptop
and the outlook profile on that machine (same network) was still connected while her computer was not connected. I had her run the online analyzer tool on her machine (the one that would not connect) which ran for almost 2 hours. The tool finished right at
the same time that her outlook finally connected back to the server.
If anyone has any ideas/solutions please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brandon Smith

Oddly enough my computer is right at this moment in this same disconnected state. Outlook shows an exclamation point in a yellow triangle. Its state is disconnected. If I go to portal.office.com I get to the login page but get page can't be displayed after

  • Windows 8.1, Surface Pro, 2 Outlook 2013 32bit - when attempting to set up new mail account with exchange 365 - "An encrypted connection to your mail server is unavailable"

It then tells me to "Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection".
I then follow the prompts but to no avail.
Please help me!? Everything works fine on my personal windows 7 laptop - but not on my new work owned Surface Pro 2!

    Hi,
According to your description, your office 365 account cannot be configured on your Surface Pro while it can work on your Windows 7 client.
Maybe we can try to manually configure it. and you can also use network monitor to find the root cause.
However, since the issue is related to Exchange online(Office 365), I recommend you ask for more professional help on our Exchange online forum:

  • I cannot configure the clients with POP account after migrating the Exchange from 2007 to 2013

    Hi,
When i configure the POP account on Outlook 2010 is giving the error message
"Send test e-mail message: Cannot send the message. Verify the e-mail address in your account properties.  The server responded: 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to submit to this server"
please help me out on this,

The OP says users can't send mail.  POP is not used to send mail.
I strongly recommend you have users reconfigure their clients to send using port 587.  This has been the default configuration since the introduction of Exchange 2007.  You can modify the default receive connector, or add another receive connector
to allow clients to connect and authenticate if you want, but when you do so, you will risk causing message mail flow to fail.
I am not going to try to tell you how to do it precisely because I don't want to be a party to you messing up your mail flow.  Here's more documentation on receive connectors from TechNet.
