Migrate TCS licensing from appliance to VM?

Does anyone know if it's possible and if there's any documentation on migrating licensing from a hardware appliacne TCS to a VM?  I've got pretty much everything in my environment (other than TP Server 8710s) migrated over to VM, but I've neglected TCS as it's not widely used in our environment.  Any help moving this last thing to VMWare would be much appreciated :)

Hi Nick,
Yes, its certainly possible - we've just done it here.
You need to use the TCS Migration Assistant Tool which you get access to (as well as the OVA file to build the VM) when you order the R-VMTCS-MIG-K9= part number.
Note: the most recent available verison (S6.1) is only officially supported on UCS Hardware - you may be better off waiting for version S6.2 which is due to be released and reportedly officially supports running on your own non-Cisco Specs based hardware.
A couple of Cisco docwiki links that may be of assistance:
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Virtualization_for_Cisco_TelePresence_Content_Server
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_in_a_Virtualized_Environment
There's also some more brief discussion on this in another thread: tcs-gen-2-and-windows-server-2003-support about Win 2003 which runs on the content servers becoming end of support.
If you have any specific questions, both Patrick and I have done this migration before, so should be able to answer most questions.

OK.  You'll need to Contact Customer Care

  • Trying to migrate Project license from one machine to another

I am trying to setup Project Standard 2010 on a new machine. I still have the license numbers, et al from an old machine. I cannot seem to find a Project 2010 Standard download that does not want to charge me a fee. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't believe there are any trial versions of Project 2010 Standard.  If you have the key (but not the media) see:

  • Is possible to migrate licenses from 5508 to 5760

We have two 5508 that have been removed because we have deployed two new 5760.
Is it possible to migrate licenses from 5508 to 5760? I understand that the base licenses should not be migrated but the adder ones should
Just, not to loose all of the licenses, we want to migrate two L-LIC-CT5508-25A to obtain 50 L-LIC-CTIOS-1A

I think you are correct.  I recommend that you open a TAC case with the Cisco Licensing group.

  • User Migration Licenses from BE5000/CME to 9.X ?

    Hello All,
I would really appreciate if someone can help me understand how does Cisco send the migration user licenses after purchase?
here is a brief summary of what my customer is trying to migrate from :
    - Customer has a BE5000 site with some 7962 phones and another CME site with some 7962/7937 phones
    - from reading the ordering guide I see I can use the following part numbers to migrate from those sites to 9.X
    L-MIGB-UCM-UWL-PRO & L-MIGE-UCM-UWL-PRO
    - Both sites have had their equipment shut down more than 3 months ago so we have no access to those servers incase the process involves logging on those systems to migrate the user licenses.
The question I have is if I order migration licenses via those part numbers, do cisco send a PAK key or will I need to run something on the old BE5000 or CME to be able to retrieve those upgrade licenses?
    Thank you

    Hi,
what I understand that u are using BE5K with version 8.x on MCS 7828 or below and are upgrading to Call Manager version 9 on different platform[Virtualised] ?
the Part codes mentioned say that u are migrating Basic & Enhanced Users to Professional Users and placing the order since u do not have UCSS contract.
You will get the single PAK code for total number of users to be migrated and the same needs to be entered on www.cisco.com/go/license along with ELM file .This file u would get once u migrate successfully to version 9 [license MAnagement---Licenses --other fulfiment options--generate ,now copy from ELM and paste on license page]
other way is write mail to [email protected] along with Sales Order Number  and License Count Utility [LCU report] taken from existing call manager version .LCU is downloadable from Cisco.

  • Migrating Time Capsule from 1TB to 2TB

Hi, I'm currently having an issue with my *Time Machine* ( TM ), these are the facts...
    Yesterday...
I had a MacBook, an external *350GB HD* almost full and a 1TB *Time Capsule* ( TC ) only used by TM with backups _since april 2009_...
    Today...
I have the same MacBook, my external *350GB HD* has just filled up, a new *2TB TC*, and the old *1TB TC* with my backups mentioned above.
    So I want to...
Redirect my TM backups from the *1TB TC* to the new *2TB TC* in order to dismiss my old fashioned *350GB HD* after and replace it with the old *1TB TC* used as an external HD (kind of a replacing waterfall made in the correct order, dismissing the little and oldie one by a newer and more powerful, and so on).
I do fine when redirecting (change disk option at TM preferences) the TC from the 1TB to the 2TB but backups (_since april 2009_) get lost when entering *TM _unless using back_* the *1TB TC*...
I find no way to migrate all my backups to the newer and bigger TC (That's what makes my TM worthy)...
I've tried twice each of the following...
    1) To backup the *1TB TC* but the disk image is what gets backed up.
    2) Copy the Disk Image (550GB) from TC to TC but access privileges interfere when copying the disk image file (at 250GB progress = 50%)... I get a not enough privileges message but I'm "super user" in both TCs.
I've tried the process either wirelessly (both on the same wireless network) and via ethernet, both through an *Airport Extreme* as main router.
Essential issues like being connected to both TCs, passwords (if any) and having no problems on network issues (all green light markers on hardware) are held.
What do I do...? I just want to migrate my backups from one TC to another (bigger) one.
Now I'm in the mood of mounting both backup volumes (after creating an empty one on 2TB TC) and copy manually every backup folder created there from TC2TC... however, I'd like to know if there is another way... I mean... there should be!

  • Moving FCP6 license from G5 to MP tower

I have FCP6 installed on my G5 and MBP. i recently purchased a Mac Pro tower and would like to move the license from the G5 to the MP. I didn't see any posts relative to this subject.Ccan anyone advise?
    Thanks

Yes, go to help and the section on migration tool. Apple supplies software for transferring the entire contents of one drive to another. You can do the same using a program called Carbon Copy Cloner.
I've used both, they work well but I've never done it by firewire, only by plugging a fresh hard drive into my older machine and transferring hard drive to hard drive..then pulling the drive out and installing it in the new machine. Everything gets moved including settings and you can immediately boot from the cloned drive.

  • Migrating KMS Services from Server 2003 Servers to Server 2012 R2

We have two Windows Server 2003 boxes that a previous administrator had setup as our KMS Servers.
These servers appear to be activating Office 2010, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008R2 and 2003
I can see these activations taking place in the KMS logs on each server.
The question is what are the steps that we need to take to get the KMS Services migrated to Server 2012 without causing any activation issues in the current environment?  I've be unable to come up with the proper order of operations from researching
blogs and I'm just not sure how to get where I need to go, what keys to use etc.
Since this was setup by a previous administrator, there is no documentation on what was done, what keys were used etc.
    KMS Server 1:
    slmgr /dlv
Name:  Office(TM) 14, ProPlusKMSHost edition   (Partial Product Key C6PWX)
    Description:  Office(TM) 14 KMS, VOLUME_KMS channel
    Name:   Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, W7R2-Kms3 edition
Description:   Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, VOLUME_KMS_R2_B channel (Partial Product Key VX348)
    KMS Server 2:
    slmgr /dlv
Name:  Office(TM) 14, ProPlusKMSHost edition   (Partial Product Key 3T9QW)
    Description:  Office(TM) 14 KMS, VOLUME_KMS channel
    Name:   Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, W7R2-Kms3 edition
Description:   Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, VOLUME_KMS_R2_B channel (Partial Product Key TT78P)
Of Note, we are a Microsoft Software Assurance customer and have Volume Licensing
In Summary, I would like to understand how to move my KMS Services to a new 2012 Server(s) and decommission the old 2003 boxes running KMS without disruption.  As a final step I'd also like to be able to activate Windows 8, Server 2012, and Office 2013.

    Hi,
If you wanted to slowly transition and verify... you could stand up new KMS host and make the priority of the SRV record lower so that clients will always connect to new server first and fall back to original box second.
    Steps to migrating the KMS:
    1. Uninstall the KMS host key first by running the following command:
    slmgr -upk
    2. Then, install the default kms key by running the following command:
slmgr /ipk [KMS Client Setup Key]
The default KMS client setup keys can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303280.aspx
    3. Delete the record from the DNS:
    Open DNS console:
Expand _tcp node under the domain.com. There will be a record _VLMCS. Delete this record.
    4. The KMS server is uninstalled.
    5. To install KMS on a new server, enter:
    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <KmsKey>
then to activate the KMS host, enter:
    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato
    6. After activation is complete, restart the Software Licensing Service.
    7. Verify that the record is created for the new server in the DNS.
To verify that the KMS host is configured correctly, you can check the KMS count to see if it is increasing. Run slmgr.vbs /dli on the KMS host to obtain the current KMS count. You can also check the Key Management Service log in the Applications and Services
Logs folder for 12290 events, which records activation requests from KMS clients. Each event displays the name of the computer and the time-stamp of an individual activation request.

I migrated the cs3 from (3) to (4). How do I deactivate the license (2) to activate it on (4)?

Contact support to reset activations. And forget about 3) and 4). You need to install your software properly, not migrate it.

To verify that the KMS host is configured correctly, you can check the KMS count to see if it is increasing. Run slmgr.vbs /dli on the KMS host to obtain the current KMS count. You can also check the Key Management Service log in the Applications and Services Logs folder for 12290 events, which records activation requests from KMS clients. Each event displays the name of the computer and the time-stamp of an individual activation request.

  • Cannot remove RD licensing from 2012 R2

I am trying to move my Rd licensing server to another server. so i tried to uninstall the RD licensing service but its grayed out
    any idea?

    Hi,
If you want to move RD Licensing from an existing Remote Desktop license server to another computer, follow these general steps:
    1. Document the configuration of your existing license server and your RD Licensing environment, including such information as:
    - The number and type of Remote Desktop Services client access licenses (RDS CALs) that are installed on the license server.
    - Which Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) servers are configured to use the license server?
    - RDS CAL purchase agreement documentation.
    2. Determine the new computer on which you want to install the RD Licensing role service.
    3. Install the RD Licensing role service on the new computer.
    4. Activate the new license server.
    5. Migrate the RDS CALs from the existing license server to the new license server by using the Manage RDS CALs Wizard in Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
    6. Configure the RD Session Host servers to use the new license server.
    Note
A client that received an RDS CAL from the previous license server continues to operate as normal until its RDS CAL expires. When the previously issued RDS CAL expires, the RD Session Host server requests a new RDS CAL from the new license server on behalf
    of the client.
    7. After you have confirmed that the RD Session Host servers in your environment are configured to use the new license server, deactivate the previous license server.
    8. Uninstall (remove) the RD Licensing role service from the previous license server.

  • I need help migrating my applications from my old G5 power mac to my new macbook pro

Im struggling migrating my applications from my G5 power mac to my new macbook pro. My G5 runs on OS X 10.5.8 and when using the traditional tool of Migration assistant my new macbook urges me to update my G5 which it obviously it can't due to its original licensing agreements. I have no codes for my software as it came on the pc: I need , Logic pro 9, the complete adobe CS4 package and final cut pro . How can i put this on my new mac ??

So you never really owned the software to begin with then. Software is licensed and has to be transferred and when you bought your Mac (PC) they really did not.

As for a temporary solution, you can run 10.6.8 as a VM under later versions of Mac OS X like Mavericks so you can have use of Rosetta and it runs the PowerPC code.
Your new Intel Mac can run Windows natively also, can dual boot both Mac and Windows, if that is of any use, for some it is.
Right now you are not in the MacBook Pro forum! :-) This is Mac Pro sans "Book" and is not a laptop at all, but a 'trash can' or tower.
    Lappy would be here:
