Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -

If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

Migration to new IMAC from old IMAC with a Backup Drive

I purchased an new IMAC and have an old IMAC and have migrated all of my stuff from old to new, except I have a external backup drive on the old IMAC and did not migrate it. I thought that I would migrate by attaching it to the new but do not have the right cables. Can I connect the backup drive to the old with the firewire that I have and connect the old IMAC to the new one with the cables that I used, or do I have to buy the right connector to connect the backup to the new IMAC.

How to set up new imac from old imac

I've heard about migration assistant but I've also heard that it takes a long time. Can I speed this up using ethernet between the old imac and the new one?

The only time I would not use the Migration Asisstant is if one Mac is PowerPC and the other Intel.
Firewire is faster than all ethernet except gigabit ethernet.

I am attempting to restore from icloud on new 5c from old 5c and has taken 4 days locked, plugged in, and connected to secure good internet, but still not finished. What can I do?

I have already cleared the content and settings from the phone twice and tried to start completely from scratch.
I also already tried backing up the phone onto my computer then restoring then using the computer back up via USB connection.
In addition, my phone displays as almost full (its an 8G) yet I have 4 songs (8.2MB), no books, 48 apps (1.98GB) - which seems like a lot of space used for apps, 96 photos (84.6MB), Documents&Data (917MB) and that's it! It just has a huge section that displays as "other" (1.62 GB) then 780.2 free.
I'm OBVIOUSLY not a tech person, but it seems like having some apps and 4 songs and 90 photos shouldn't mean your phone is so full I had to erase all the content just to do the software update for it to allow me to back it up! What is the issue there? Those numbers don't seem like they add up to anything near 8GB, but again I'm sure I'm missing something.
Any help is appreciated. My other phone was exactly the same one and I had no such problems so perhaps this one is just faulty?

I updated to Yosemite and now Iphoto says it's incompatable. Downloaded the new version 3 times now and still get the same message. Restarted Macbook twice and still same problem

I updated my Macbook Pro to Yosemite this morning, (it took almost 2 hours!), and now iPhoto tells me it's incompatable with Yosemite and I need to download the latest version. The "latest" version is a bit ambiguous. The App Store may be only showing you the latest version you bought, not the most recent version.
Which version did you download?
You need to install iPhoto 9.6 and launch this version. If you previously have been running a version of iPhoto 8.x.x., you cannot update, but need to buy the upgrade to iPhoto 9.6 from the "Featured" tab of the App Store..
Then launch iPhoto from the Applications folder. The Dock icon may still be tied to the older version.
Also, depending on the version you upgraded from, you may need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader, if your iPhoto Library has been created by iPhoto 7.1.2 or earlier, see this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader

Getting iPhone to sync with new mac (from old PC) and add device to iTunes

I recently brought a macbook pro 8.1. I was able to transfer my itunes library using the imatch, however I have not been able to add my iphone into my itunes in able to sync. I still have to connect with my old PC in order to sync my music (that was imported by CD's). I have searched through the support options from apple support, but there's only information on how to add a NEW device to the itunes library. When I have tried sync'ing my phone with my new mac itunes, there's a message that pops up stating I cannot sync 1 device with 2 computer itunes libraries. What I'm getting at...is there anyway I can move my device from my old PC itunes to my new mac itunes before my PC dies?? HELP!

There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.

FireWire cables are dirt cheap and that's how you should be doing the migration. You might have to start over, wiping the new machine's HD, and restoring the software as described in the Everything Mac manual that came with it. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac for more details.

Try an SMC Reset. (System Management Controller)
Shutdown>unplug from power for ten minutes>press and hold in the power button for ten seconds>startup again.
Also try a PRAM Reset. (Parameter RAM)
Shutdown. At the bootup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, wait for two more chimes, total three, then let go of all keys to finish booting,

Wish to transfer all data EXCEPT iTunes from old iMac (500 GB) to new iMac (2 TB). Have read this is possible using Firewire connection, is this possible, if so what is the procedure, and how long does it take?
Is another method preferable in terms of speed ?
What to do about 1TB Timecapsule, which is also on our WLAN. Can it be used to back up a subset of data on the new iMac?

I don't believe Migration Assistant provides the option to exclude iTunes. If you have iTunes files you wish to preserve on the new iMac, and enough free disk space the new iMac, you could:
1) Rename the Music/iTunes folder on the new iMac to something like Music/iTunes_original
2) Run the migration.
2) Remove the iTunes folder on the new iMac
3) Rename the iTunes_original to iTunes on the new iMac
You will find Migration Assistant in Applications > Utilities. Duration depends on how much data you have and speed of hard drives, etc.
