Migrate .usage files to new drive

Hi, i am a BI developer but have been asked to move usage log files for my clients Sharepoint 2010 installation to a new drive (the usage files are on the C drive at present). Please help....
Thanks
David

Fixed - use central administrator, open Monitoring, Configure usage and health data collection, Log file location.
I had to temporarily turn the Sharepoint timer service off while the .usage files were being copied to the new drive.

  • Moving files to new drives but keep same drive letter

I need to fix a few things with the drives on my SQL server and was wondering if the following is a valid solution. The two main things are putting the files on drives formatted with 64k blocks (was the default of 4k before and I will be changing to 64k)
    and adjust the SCSI ids.
I did a quick test and it seems to work but I’m not sure if there’s any hidden surprises waiting for me.
In a nutshell, this is the procedure I was planning:
    - Stop all SQL services
    - Add new drives with temporary drive letters
    - Use the following command to copy the data over for each drive (folders are the default names created when SQL was installed): robocopy “S:\Program Files” “X:\Program Files” /COPYALL /DCOPY:T /E
    - offline old drives
    - Rename new drives to the old drive letters
    - Reboot the server
Is there anything I’m missing or is that a valid option? Does SQL somehow mark drives in a special way or can my migration be that simple?
    Thanks

What you described will work fine.  I have done it that way many times.

  • Migrating PC files to new Mac after losing connection

I'm using Migration Assistant to move my files from my old PC to my new MacBook Air. I set everything up, connected the two computers with an Ethernet cable, and started the transfer. About two hours (out of a predicted 9) into the transfer, I lost my internet connection. I paused the migration. Then I quit to begin again.
Since restarting I've tried everything, but I cannot get the Mac to find the PC code. It's connected, but it will not pull up that code that is supposed to show on both computers before you hit continue. It pulled up the first time, I chose the files I wanted to move, and off we went. I've rebooted both. Uninstalled the Migration Assistant from the PC and rebooted. I've repeated all of this numerous times. Nothing works.
How do I migrate the files from my PC to my Mac when it's the second attempt after the first was interrupted? What is the secret trick?

Thanks, Tuttle, for the lead. I wrote to Andreas (author of Eudora Mailbox Cleaner) and he explained what happened. Eudora doesn't store an attachment with the e-mail message--it creates a link to the attachment. The link is hardware dependent, so if you move the Eudora folder, the links get broken. He said there was really no way to reconnect the links. Since I have all the messages, and all the attachments, I can still manually find an attachment to a message if I really need it. This is a major flaw with Eudora in my book (too bad, because I like the other features of the program).

I am using Elements 12...my external hard drive is almost full with photo files...a 1 TB WD....and I need to get my photo files to a new drive.....a G-Technologies 4 TB external.....What is the best way to do this?....  Restore from  a backup drive to the new drive ?...or move from the old drive to the new drive?.....or is there another way?........What are the pluses and minuses of the ways ?  Details would be Great.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.   Thank You in advance.

I would  like to move my entire catalogue from one external drive (that is almost full) to a new external drive with more room.  I have several drives with back ups of all photos.....so are you saying Move it.........using the Move from the drop down menus and move it from the old to the new drive.....and not restore it from a back up drive to the new drive?
The backup/restore process moves not only the picture files library, but also the catalog.
That's good especially if you want to share catalog and librarty with another computer.
If you prefer the default location for catalogs on your desktop, no problem. Simply use the catalog manager to move the catalog.
The drag and drop solution works:
Organizer: Moving folder trees or branches - Elements Village
(Sorry, I gave a wrong link in my previous post ...)
It's more flexible and reasonably safe. It looks faster, but if you want to be safe and do a backup first,  you'll gain nothing.
The problem with moving folders is the same than when you move folder trees from the explorer: be sure to move in an empty master folder to avoid folder names collisions.
If you want the catalog folder in the same external drive as the moved library, be sure to have the catalog folder outside of your library tree.

  • Can't rename files on new drive

I copied all of my data on a secondary drive to a new drive and installed it but it is requiring a password to do anything to the files?

Select the volume icon in the Finder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your administrator password when prompted. Check the box at the bottom marked
              Ignore ownership on this volume
    Close the Info window.

  • Upgrading stock hard drive: how to copy lion and files to new drive

Per above, I'm planning to replace my stock 5400rpm drive with a new Western Digital Scorpio Black drive this evening.  I want to transfer all my files, folders, and applications from the old drive to the new one.
I have an external drive, which has my Time Machine backup.  Can I use that backup to just restore everything after physically installing the new WD? Mor is there a better way?

I would get an enclosure in which to place your old drive. Then boot from the external drive, partition and format the new drive then clone the old drive to the new one:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Clone Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue button.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new drive. Source means the external old drive.

  • Migrate from File Server Shared Drives to Document Libraries, while Keeping Modified and Created Date

I am doing some file migration for a client, using SharePoint 2013 on prem.
Whether copying files from a local or network drive, to a Document Library, or from Document Library to other Document Library, I want the option of
preserving file dates and created/modified by fields.
I am developing a pretty cool tool in Excel to analyze files and directory names for restricted characters, large file sizes, and long path names...and then
it generates copy commands or rename commands as desired. I will share this with you if you like. This little glitch is the last remaining barrier.
Can we copy and retain Modified/Created Data and time? Can I do this using xcopy or robocopy or do I need to use powershell, ShareGate, or some other tool?
I have tried Windows Explorer drag-n-drop, "robocopy /COPY:DAT" and "xcopy /k"
and these seem to work great in th CMD window until you display the resulting files in SharePoint...and the modified date shows as now and modified by
    shows as me.
Any suggestions you can provide are most welcome.

  • Migrating User files to new User ID on New Mac?

I bought a new iMac for my work to replace a PC.
I am planning to try Migration Assistant on initial Start Up of a new iMac, and would like to migrate mainly all Mailboxes & folders, Calendar, Contacts.  I had planned to do this from the office PC but that has never worked apparently due to all the endless safety restrictions in the Windows PC.
While I don't have everything on my home Mac, I do have the last year's work mail accounts, the calendar and contacts, which I set up manually.
I know that on initial start up, the new Mac will ask if I'd like to migrate files from another Mac.  I would like to name the new computer a totally different name than my home mac (like "OfficeMac")
My question is:  If I migrate on initial set up from my current user on my home mac (my name) to a new user name (office), will I still be able to move all the mail, folders, etc and access & use them or is the system going to think permissions for these are only for the old user (my name) from the mac it migrated from???
    Many thanks

Okay - in case this helps anyone else.  This totally worked.  On initial set-up it migrated everything, however it does not ask you to create a new User Name, but it migrated all my stuff including the accounts.
I did not want my account name used, just the same mail, calendar, etc.  So....
While there seems to be a lot of postings saying you cannot change the name of your User Account, I don't know why, because you can indeed.
    You have 2 choices:
You must be logged in as an Admin on another Login (I already had 2)
    Choice 1
    You go to System Preferences>Users
    Unlock the lock,
Highlight the User you want to change
In the area called "Full Name" just change the name!
This however will not change the name of the home folder which is also what I wanted.  That is a little more involved but this absolutely worked:
    Choice 2

I am running Mountain Lion on a new iMac (Oct 2013) - I have no idea if this works on anything older.
    Good luck and thanks!

  • Time Machine is not copying new files to new drive

I was just searching thru my TM to restore some old files and realise that my TM has not been backing up new files after a certain date. After much pondering, I  realise that was when I changed my old TM drive to a larger drive. I copied all my old backups from the old drive to the new larger drive using this method shown in https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5096. After which TM has been backuping up the files with no errors so I thought all was well.
What i didin't realise was that TM has been backing up the same 43 files over and over again and they are all dated 20 March 2013.
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/an_mew backup/Backups.backupdb
1.42 GB required (including padding), 874.70 GB available
Copied 20 files (93 bytes) from volume Macintosh SSD.
Copied 23 files (93 bytes) from volume Macintosh HD.
    Starting post-backup thinning
    Deleted /Volumes/an_mew backup/Backups.backupdb/Angela Wangsawidjaja's iMac/2013-04-24-021045 (24.0 KB)
Post-back up thinning complete: 1 expired backups removed
    Backup completed successfully.
Nothing after 20 March 2103 has been backed up.
I have tried repairing the TM drive thru Disk Utility, removing the TM drive from Time Machine Preferences and re-adding it back, turning Time Machine Preferences off then on again, and restarting from Safe Mode to force a deep traversal scan. Nothing works... my latest backup still shows my latest files as 20 March 2013 only.
Can someone tell me how I can make Time Machine to do a full backup of my SSD and HD without losing all old my backups (before 20 March 2013) that I copied from my old drive?
    Thank you.

Looks like it didn't work for http://pondini.org/TM/A4.html
I checked a few days later and none of the newer files are being backup again!!
when i check the TM messages it give me the same thing for the past backups from 25 April 2013.
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/an_mew backup/Backups.backupdb
1.42 GB required (including padding), 873.27 GB available
Copied 20 files (93 bytes) from volume Macintosh SSD.
Copied 23 files (93 bytes) from volume Macintosh HD.
    Starting post-backup thinning
No post-back up thinning needed: no expired backups exist
    Backup completed successfully.

  • Migrate MP3 library to new drive/directory while keeping all iTunes data?

I currently keep my 80 GB MP3 library on a portable E: Drive.
I've always managed my own music folder ex: "E:\MP3\Rock and Alternative\Radiohead" etc. etc.
However, I recently upgraded my system (C:) hard drive and now have room to actually keep all of my MP3s there and would like to move them over to drive C: So the path will read like this: "C:\MP3\Rock and Alternative\Radiohead" while keeping all of my star-ratings, play counts, playlists, etc...
Is there a way to do this?

*How to open a different iTunes library*
Click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and _hold down_ the SHIFT key. After a short while you will be prompted to *Choose or create an iTunes library*. This feature can be used to switch between different library files.
The normal layout it that the main iTunes folder goes inside whatever the Windows default music folder is called, e.g. C:\Users\Michael\Music\iTunes for you on Windows 7. Inside the iTunes folder are a bunch of library files and a folder called iTunes Music or, post iTunes 9, iTunes Media. Provided all your content is inside this media folder you can relocate the enclosing iTunes folder at will. The steps I outlined above are an attempt to reconnect your library so that it becomes portable. I realise your music is already in the E:\MP3 folder, but I don't don't know what value you have under Edit > Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Media Folder Locataion. After copying your library files to E:\ and opening the library there you need to make sure that this setting reads E:\MP3 otherwise the next step of copying back to C:\Users\Michael\Music\iTunes may not work. This is also the reason for the cycle of opening and closing iTunes - to make sure that iTunes has a had a chance to switch from using absolute references to your files to relative references (or at least ones that it will update) which it should do if your media is inside the "media folder" before you move or copy the library. Backup the existing content of C:\Users\Michael\Music\iTunes before you copy the content from E:\ so that you can undo the steps you take if it breaks your library.
BTW like you, I manually manage my music, but I don't necessarily advocate this as the best way to do it. If you're prepared to yeild control to iTunes you could just consolidate your library onto the C: drive and allow iTunes to *Keep the iTunes Media* folder organised. If you want to keep manually managing then the best layout is one in which the library is portable. That is a library folder containing a media folder. You can pretty much orgainse stuff in the media folder any way you like but it's more effort than leaving it all to the application. You should also disable any automatic file organising options in Windows Media Player and ideally change it's rip folder to the main iTunes media folder location.

How do I move my mp3 files from my old Cosmos to my new Droid Mini?

        Hi shelliekg,
Let's make this a little easier for you. Do you have an SD card in the LG Cosmos? If so, all you have to do is move it from the LG Cosmos to the Droid Mini and the music will carry over.  If not, no worries! You can move the SD card from the Mini and put it in the Cosmos.  Open you music files and choose options and move to SD card.  Once you are done, put the SD card back in the Mini.  Keep us posted.

In trying to open a Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive  I keep on getting the message "lightroom cannot use the catalog named " " because it is  not writable and cannot be opened. I have fixed all the "permissions" and yet it will still not open. How do I fix this?

    Hello Forum Members,
I figured it out. You have to select  the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on  "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!
