Migrate user data from SLES10sp3 OES2sp3 to new hardware

Hi,
I am trying to migrate user data on a nss volume from a SLES10sp3 and
OES2sp3 server to new hardware already setup with SLES10sp3 and OES2sp3.
Authentication and configuration of the data selection is sorted. After
starting the data transfer I get a message saying the migration failed.
Below is the error from the log file:
FATAL -FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Fatal: Cannot migrate source path
/media/nss/DATA/Users/JohnG/: nbackup: Failed to open dataset
/media/nss/DATA/Users/JohnG/ for backup
WARNING - FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Warning: Going to next data set
ERROR - FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Error: nbackup: (libtsafs.so 6.50.0 291) An
invalid path was used.

John

Hi kjhurni,
I have not setup to get update from the Novell channel as I have an issue
with connecting to the update channel but I will deal with that later.
I tried to run a miggui to migrate my data to the new server with SLES10sp3
and OES2sp3. Below is the entire log file, I have highlighted the error at
the end of the log file. (Names and addresses have been changed to protect
the innocent)

John

  • Migrate user data from SLES10sp3 OES2sp3 to new hardware (again)

    Hi,
I am running SLES10sp3_64 with OES2sp3_64 and need to migrate the user data
to a new server running the same OS. I have also updated the SLES & OES to
the maintenance pack of November 2011.
The miggui authenticates and I can select the folders for migration. Below
is an extract of the log file error:
FATAL -FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Fatal: Cannot migrate source path

    Hi,
The log is from /var/opt/novell/migration of the miggui. The begining of the log is about the connection and the authentication to the servers. Which is 100%
I then also ran the "nbackup" command from a terminal with the same result. I don't think it matters, but I am migrating from-and-to NSS volumes.
I have looked at the tid and have checked all relevent points and again, no issues. Perhaps this is a "NCP" issue rather than a "miggui" issue.
    Thanks again.

I think there's a migration log and a debug log as well that may show some additional info.

  • Migrate user data from SLES10sp4 OES2sp3 to new hardware

    Hi,
Running SLES10sp4 with OES2sp3. I just updated all patches on both the
    source and destination servers.
The command "cat /etc/*release" returns the following info:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64)
    VERSION = 10
    PATCH LEVEL = 4
    LSB_VERSION="core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-noarch:core-2.0-x86_64:core-3.0-x86_64
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2.0.3 (x86_64)
    VERSION =2.0.3
    PATCHLEVEL = 3
    BUILD
I then ran "miggui" and connected to both servers and authenticated. I then
selected "consolidate" and selected the folders to migrate. After clicking
"start", the system runs for a few second and then fails with the following
    error:
FATAL - FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Fatal: Cannot migrate source path
/media/nss/DATA/Users/: nbackup: Failed to open dataset
    /media/nss/DATA/Users/ for backup
    Regards

...mmmh, so applying a million patches, updates and rebooting a zillion times, still no success.
SOLUTION: rsync the two data volumes,
edited each user and group rights
Using iManager or Console1 ispretty slow, so I used NwAdmin (old netware management tool, still the fastest)
(found some interesting rights allocations, fixed them)
    changed login script
and all is good .... erm, watch this space

  • Help with migrating user data from one account to another

I am on a G5 with 10.4.11. I installed FCP studio 6 and everything works fine except compressor. I have had only one user account on this mac (i will call it account 1). I was told to create another account (account 2), log on and see if compressor works. It does. Basically there are files missing on account 1 and compressor won't run. I have installed 3 times and no change.
Anyway I was told to migrate all my user data from account 1 to account 2. I have been looking at threads and want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I found a way to close. Please see if this works. IT may be from the tiger forum:
pick a short user name for your new account. then run the following terminal commands
    sudo mkdir /users/newshortname
    sudo ditto ~ /users/newshortname
You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) after the first command. that's normal. This will copy your current home directory to /users/newshortname. Then go to system preferences->accounts and create a new account with the short name newshortname. You'll get a popup saying that a home directory by that name already exists and asking if you want to use it. say yes.
Anyway, I would like to migrate everything from account 1 to 2 and have all preferences...everything. I would also like to be able to delete the old account...account 1 and rename account 2. Since this is a home MAC, I really don't need it PW protected. I would like this MAC to just use my new account 2 at start up.
Please ask me any questions. This is my editing MAC, and I can't get around inside the OS. I know FCP like the back of my hand, but don't want to screw up this computer.
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, you should be able to move most of it by changing permissions.
Network settings could be any/all of these though for instance...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist
As well as the old Keychain & cookies from your Browser.

  • Problem while Migrating user data from 10g to 11gR2

    Hi experts,
I am trying to Migrate users data(including password and security questions) from 10g to 11gR2 what approach i have followed is..
From 10g using API i retrieved users data including password and security questions and i stored all information into hashmap. This is one java program.
And then i am trying to create that user in 11gR2 using API which i retrieved from 10g . From this 11g program i am creating object of 10g and i am using that hash map to retrieve user information. But i am not getting connection to 10g , it is throwing exception like unknown application server. Both sides i used API only as it is recommended to use API instead of JDBC connection.
Help me in this regard ASAP and suggest if there is any other approach to Migrate users data.
    Thanks in Advance

By using Trusted Recon, you won't be able to Fetch Password as it is.
Since your goal is to fetch passwords too, please follow another approach.
You won't be able to get connection to both 10g and 11g simultaneously in the same program.
So, break this task in 2 phases. First connect with 10g, fetch user data in CSV format and then connect with 11G and read this CSV to create users.
Once users are created properly, use APIs for creating challenge questions and answers.
I think, you are getting exception like unknown application server because you are trying to connect to both 10g and 11g environments simultaneously.
    Follow the following steps:-
    (1) By using 10G APIsyou can't obtain password of user profile in decrypted form. So, Fetch password by using tcDataProvider. It will give you plain text password.
    (2) In a custom scheduler written in 10g, retrieve this data in CSV. After all you can't store this info in
String query = "SELECT USR_LOGIN, USR_PASSWORD, USR_FIRST_NAME, USR_LAST_NAME FROM USR";//Add all fields which you want to retrieve from your 10G
    (3) Use this query, tcDataProvider, tcDataSet and Java I/O (or any other CSV Third Party tool like the ones obtained in csv.jar in XL_HOME/ext folder) fetch this info in a CSV.
    (4) Once CSV is generated, 10g machine is no more needed. Connect with 11g using 11g APIs. Write your custom 11G scheduler in order to read this CSV and use 11g APIs and create users for each record.
    (5) Once user records are created in 11g, the difficult part is done. Transfer the Security questions too by using this CSV technique.
    Please share results with us.

  • Migrating Users & Data from a Powerbook G4 to a MBP

OK, I'm getting a refurb. MBP and I'm going to need to transfer over my stuff from the Powerbook G4 to the MBP. The thing is...both my 400 and 800 FW ports in the Powerbook have ceased to function, so Target Disk Mode will not work for me. I could use the Ethernet form of transfer to get everything over but that implies that the MBP will have to be up and running and have it's network settings all configured in order for it to be "seen" on the network. Is this the case? Or, upon startup of the MacBoook Pro, will I be prompted to migrate data & users via Ethernet?
In the past, I've been able to use Target Disk Mode and I'm familiar with that procedure, I just don't know what to expect via an Ethernet migration. Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:

    In your /Home/Library/ folder:

  • Can´t migrate user data from 4.3.3 to latest 6.1.x iOS...

    Hello folks,
I have a friend who was complaining that her iPhone 3GS wasn´t updating her apps anymore. I quickly realized her iOS under 4.3.3.
While connecting in iTunes, neither options to backup or upgrade appeared - only set as new iphone.
I searched several forums, but couldn´t find a solution (other than copy manually her pictures through USB, and type again all contacts)
Considering her iPhone is no longer recognized, how do I backup her stuff and restore under newer iOS version ?
    Cheers and thanks !

You might also want to try a different USB sync cord if your phone isn't being recognized by Windows at all.

  • Migrate WSUS server from 2003x86 to 2008x64, new hardware, use same name and IP address?

Searching through the WSUS forums and reading the TechNET migration documentation, I have bits and pieces of information to make this a smooth transition...I think. I have a plan in mind but
would like the communities input on what I am thinking before moving forward and having it blowup in my face :). <o:p></o:p>
    I have the following currently:<o:p></o:p>
A single WSUS 3.0 SP2 server, running on Server Win2003x86, using the default WID (susdb.mdf) on the same server. I have SQL 2005 Express installed on this server as well for other services
but this has no bearing on the WID correct?<o:p></o:p>
What I would like to do:<o:p></o:p>
I have a new server (a much better one) that I would like to move WSUS on to, that will be running Server Win2008x64 (I have to setup first). <o:p></o:p>
Steps that I would like to follow:<o:p></o:p>
    1. I will go through and setup this new server with all M$ updates etc... under a new name (ex. wsusnew) and DHCP acquired IP address and then power it down. <o:p></o:p>
    2. Get on my current WSUS server and backup all current WSUS settings, groups, DB etc... to a network location for temporary storage. Then power it down.<o:p></o:p>
    3. Delete the current WSUS server computer object in AD, DNS entry I will leave because my intension is to give the same IP address to the new WSUS server.<o:p></o:p>
    4. Start the new server, static assign the IP address from the old WSUS server to this new server and then change the name of (wsusnew) to the old servers name, which should be ok sense I deleted
the AD object in step 3.<o:p></o:p>
    5. After the obvious restart, the new server will have the same name and IP address as the old server. <o:p></o:p>
    6. Now that the new server is up (with same settings name/IP as old server), I will then go through and install the WSUS role on the server and restore my WSUS information.<o:p></o:p>
    Questions:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Step 2 above, is it possible to do this, without making replica servers? I kept reading about this as I was researching doing this, I would rather just copy the DB and folders and simply
put them in-place on the new server.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Step 6 above, restoring of the data, what is the proper way to do this in the scenarioI described? <o:p></o:p>
Thank you to anyone who can provide me some information.
    Jeff

Thank you for the reply, I will follow and let you know. Proabably be next week sometime before I'm able to try though. So look for a reponse then. Thank you again.
    Jeff
    OR...
You can use the much more simple, much more reliable, and much more proven method of:
Install new server as a replica of the old.
    Replicate.
Configure new server as upstream server.
    Point clients to new server.
Turn off old server after all clients have redirected to the new server.
For everybody that has tried the backup/restore the database procedure described above, they have encounted complications of one form or another.
WSUS has a built-in and fully supported comprehensive replication capbility. use it! :-)

  • I can't migrate my data from my old pc to my new macbook pro

    Hi,
I have been trying to migrate my data from my PC to my new mac but it always seems to fail.
At first, I would begin the migration assistant and then after a while the PC would just crash.
But then I finally thought I managed to get it working. It said that process was complete (on both the PC and mac), but there was no data on my computer and no music in my iTunes.
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it!!
PS I also have an Ethernet cable if that's of any use but I don't know how to use it.

I suggest you stop using the Migrastion Assistant. Simple fact is, as you have found out, that it does not work most of the time and when it fdoes actuall transfer data it doesn't do it very well.
Just network the 2 computer together over your LAN and copy and past the files you want to move to the Mac.
Otr use an External drive, formatted either FAT32 or exFAT (doinig the formatting on the Windows PC) and then copy to the external from the Win PC and then copy from the external to the Mac.
    You'll be happier.

  • How to manually migrate user data under Mountain Lion?

I want to manually migrate my user data from a cloned back-up to my iMac after a clean install of Mountain Lion. I do not want to use Migration Assistant because of the probabily of re-importing some of the problems I'm trying to fix.  (This is at the tail end of a long trouble shooting process trying to fix a very very slow computer aftere a ML upgrade from Lion.  Clean install of ML is a last resort)
There used to be an excellent list by Kappy (I think) on this sort of migration under earlier systems and from PPC to Intel.  But that link seems to have been taken down.
We plan to reinstall all software from scratch after the clean install, so that is not an issue. And I know how to move the normal files in documents, music and the like.  I am most concerned about are:
    •  Making sure I move the right files/folders in the Library related to Apple apps like iTunes, iPhoto, Address Book, Calendar, iWork apps, iPhone backups, etc. plus system/network settings.
    •  Are there other specific files/folders necessary due to iCloud that are new to Mountain Lion that need moved?
    •  How to do this in a way that ensures that all permissions will be OK under the new user?
The goal is a new fresh user on a clean fresh ML install that is identical to the current user in name, function and above all, permissions.
Can anyone provide a list of the main files/folders necessary to transfer ideally along the lines of Kappy's earlier and excellent guide?
    Thanks for any help!!
    ~Roger

So long as you use iCloud for Mail, Contacts and Calendars, run software update(s) after installing each app, they will build new preference files for themselves.  iTunes will back up the phone too.  System settings are likely to change. I found the firewall off and energy saver preferences default.  Trackpad options for tap to click and drag lock may change.
Some of the updates are quite large so it takes a few hours and you need any purchase key codes handy for re-registration of software.

  • Mavericks Migration Assistant - Migrate user data to a separate user drive?

I have a question about upgrading to Mavericks with a separate user drive that I haven't been able to find an answer to, so I thought I'd ask for some guidance before actually trying to attempt it.
I have a late-model Macbook Pro (A1260) running 10.8.5 happily with 2 hard drives inside - a smaller SSD boot drive let's call BOOT 1 DRIVE, and a larger drive I use for my user folder which I'll call USER DRIVE. Now it's time to upgrade to a little larger SSD let's call BOOT 2 DRIVE. I have Mavericks already freshly installed on it (10.9.1) with a temporary blank user account. The MBP boots fine into the drive connected externally so I know it's all ready to go - all I have to do is swap out the drives and I'm good on the OS.
Now the tricky part: I want to transfer my user data from my old system 10.8.5 to the new 10.9.1 and ultimately have it reside in the same fashion - on the larger USER DRIVE. How do I do this?  A few scenarios I ponder:
    A)  I'm assuming because this is migrating from an older system to newer system, you can't just create a new user in 10.9.1 with the same user name and point it to the existing home folder in USER DRIVE, but instead have to use Migration Assistant to transfer and update 10.8 user data to 10.9 user data?
    B) Locially, you would boot into BOOT 2 DRIVE (10.9.1), and use Migration Assistant to transfer user data from the old 10.8 system (the system knows that the user data resides on USER DRIVE) to the new one but there's not enough space on the new BOOT 2 DRIVE to house all the data and even if it could, then what ? - transfer the user folder directly to a clean USER DRIVE and then point to it?
    C) I have both BOOT 1 DRIVE and USER DRIVE cloned on separate volumes, so I could boot into BOOT 2 DRIVE, wipe clean USER DRIVE, and then migrate from the cloned drives - except in Migration Assistant, it says to transfer from "another Mac or Time Machine, or a startup disk".  Would I be able to pull from the USER DRIVE CLONE and then have Migration Assistant write to the freshly wiped USER DRIVE?
Perhaps I'm overthinking this? Google pointed me to this post which seems to have some of this information covered even though it feels dated.  Reading through it makes me believe that Senario A is actually my closest bet with some user account name swapping or something? Is it that User data doesn't need to be "updated" for the newer OS and you can just create a new user account with the same name and point it to the older USER DRIVE?
Any advice from the mac smarts out there would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    SOLVED!
In case anyone stumbles upon this and is wondering what I did:
My hypothesis was correct - waaayyyy over thinking it.
I installed BOOT 2 DRIVE, swapping out the old BOOT 1 DRIVE. Then I renamed the new account to the same name as my previous account, users -> advanced options -> and pointed to the same home folder on USER DRIVE.
    DONE
Initially, I made a new account and screwed things up a bit - after reading the post of the above, understood that the new user account should have the same UID as the previous one....
Anyway, all good now - happy camper.

  • How have you migrated user data? (Permissions issues).

So far our upgrade from Tiger server to SL server has been fairly painless. I chose to do a completely clean install and then migrate users at a later date (after exporting them from the original configuration). I do have a complete bootable clone of the Tiger server install, so I can go back to that install at any time to check on things, so that's been a real help.
But here is one snag I should have anticipated: permissions issues! I've tried several times now to migrate a single user account from Tiger server to SL server. But I'm getting massive permissions issues on the account. I've tried migrating the user data using Carbon Copy Cloner, or copying the file via. the Finder (what a pain), and in both cases when I login as that user on a client machine I have only read access (or even no access) to critical files.
What methods have you used to successfully migrate user's directories? Alternately, what did you do to fix permissions issues for migrated users?
    Thanks.

i use rsync for all transfers and then make sure ownership and perms align.
are you talking about moving homedir data from old server to new, homedirs on client machines, or something else entirely? regardless, you'll need to ensure all of the pieces work together. stay away from finder copies or most gui tools. you'll have more control and more reliable results from the command line. passenger offers some folder migration functionality if you need a gui, though i've never used it for that. http://macinmind.com/?pid=2&progid=1&subpid=1

    Hi,
    Remote Client Copy (SCC9)
Remote client copy is performed in rare situation. When the client copy is done
between two different SAP systems, the copy is called remote client copy.
Before remote client copy is performed, a RFC connection must be set between those
    systems using SM59.
    1. Check RFC connection is working fine between two systems you want to perform
    remote client copy using SM59
    2. create client in the target system you want to copy the client
    3. login to target client using user SAP* and password PASS
    4. execute tcode SCC9 and select the RFC for the source system
    5. select the profile you want to copy like SAP_ALL
    6. select source client number you want to copy
    7. Select source client master data , mostly it is the same client number
    8. Now click on schedule as background job.
    9. Leave the background server field blank.
    10. Click schedule.
    11. Select Immediate from next screen.
    12. Save the screen.
    13. Client copy is scheduled now as a background job and client copy process started.
    14. The progress can be monitored using tcode SCC3
    Client Export/Import
A client transport consists of two steps:
First a client export extracts client data from the source client
to files at the operating system level. Then the data is imported
from the operating system files into the target client.
To perform a client export, follow these steps:
    1. Log on to the source client. From the SAP initial screen,
choose transaction SCC8 (Client Export). Select the data to
    be copied using a profile.
    2. Indicate the target system to which the client will be copied.
The target system must be defined in TMS as part of the
    transport domain.
    3. Begin the client export. Because copying is a lengthy
    process, use scheduled background processing.
Do not run any other client copy tool before the
    data export is finished.
This export process will generate up to three data files at the
    operating system level:
    • RO< number >: this file contains cross-client data
    • RT< number >: this file contains client-specific data
    • RX< number >: this file contains SAPscript texts
Depending on the type of data selected through the client
transport profile, the client copy command files added to the
buffer of the target system are as follows:
    • <S-SID>KO<number>: this file is for cross-client data
    • <S-SID>KT<number>: this file is for client-specific data
    • <S-SID>KX<number>: this file is SAPscript texts
The client export change requests are not imported when an
Import all takes place. Therefore, you must import these requests into the target client
using TMS. Choose one of the transport requests of the client transport in the Transport
Management System (TMS). The other transport requests belonging to this client
transport are then automatically added in the correct order.
After the import process has completed, post-import activities are required for object
generation steps. After completing the import, log on to the target client. From the SAP
systems initial screen, choose transaction SCC7
