Migrated apps and files to mac from time capsule, but no content included.  can't find photos, music, documents, etc

Migrated old computer backup on time capsule to new macbook pro.
Applications appear to have moved but can't find any of the content:  photos, documents, music, etc.
Where is it?

I'm having problems with old MBP. When I try to transfer MBP to MBP, the old machine crashes.
The reason I know the time capsule transfer occurred is because the software showed up.  I just can't seem to find the documents, pictures, music, etc.  Any suggestions?
I tried looking for another user file, but nothing seems to be there.

  • My printer is connected to the Time Capsule but my IPad 2 can't find it

My HP C4100 printer is connected to our Time Capsule and both of our MacBooks can find it easily. I just purchased an IPad 2 and it will not find the printer.  What do I need to make this work?

    Philip-
Your MacBooks print using the printer's native printing language.  The iPad does not have the necessary printer drivers.
Instead, the iPad uses the AirPrint system that requires the printer to translate AirPrint jobs to its native language.  The HP C4100 does not have AirPrint capability.
There are third party Apps for the iPad such as Print n Share, that have their own browser, mail, photo and document programs.  Those programs can print to a several different printers that are not AirPrint capable.
You can also find a script on the web, that adds a small file to a Macintosh computer, so it will share its printers over WiFi as if they were AirPrint printers.  There are also programs such as Printopia, that will share your Macintosh printers.  This works well, but you must have the computer booted up anytime you want to print from the iPad.

How to find the file that delete from time capsule?

I mean I saved JPEG file in Time capsule and unfortunately delete the file. Can I get it back
IF.... .no other backups have occured since you deleted the file, you might be able to retrieve it using an application like Disk Warrior. It's about $100 as I recall, and there are no guarantees that it will work.
DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac  Disk Repair, Mac Directory ...
Any of the free or low priced utilities that you might see or try will not be able to retrieve a deleted file from a Time Capsule.
If any backups have occured since you deleted the file, the deleted file has almost certainly been overwritten. No way to retrieve it in that case.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Windows images, but you get the point. Depending on the age of your library the library file might not include the .itl extention. Make it match the file you are replacing.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

  • Import files to iphoto from time capsule

I have a brand new time capsule and I want to be sure I have all of my bases covered before I start to set it up.  At this point I plan to use it as a shared external hard drive between two macs, wirelessly.  I'm not going to use it as a router or backups.  I have a separate external HD connected to one of the macs for regular backups.  I promise I've tried to find the answer to this question but I can't nail it down exactly!
My questions are this...  I like to import my photos direct from my camera using canon software because I like the file naming system.  Then I import those files into iphoto, which of course takes up a lot of space since they are essentially on there twice.  I understand from my reading that trying to have the iphoto library on the time capsule wirelessly is a bad plan, but can I put the original files on there and import them to each mac's iphoto library without a high risk of corruption?  Then do all of my editing and album sorting on each mac directly? I can move the time capsule to be wired to one mac or the other for the initial import but I'd like to import each new batch of photos (roughly 300 at a time) wirelessly from here on out. Is there a better way to do this, to sync my iphoto libraries to match?  I'm dealing with 30,000+ photos right now split into two libraries.  I plan to migrate to 10.7 anytime now and possibly move to Aperture.  But I'm not sure whats the best order of operations here for smoothness...
TIA!  This place always solves my problems
oh fyi it's a macbook pro and older-ish imac, both running 10.6.8 and iphoto '09, brand new Time Capsule, brand new Lacie Quadra, 2TB each

Depends. If you are using the TC as a hard drive then pretty much ok. If you are using it as the TM backup disk then no. You can not have any dynamic files like the iPhoto library on the same volume
It is not recommended that you do any heavy work with your photos over a wireless connection. Importing them from a source wirelessly should be ok

  • Deleted files from Time Capsule by mistake. How can i recover them?

I was using DiskTracker to organize the contents of Time Capsule. I deleted some folders from within DiskTracker unaware that this would delete files from Time Capsule itself.
I have several recovery software but none of them is able to see Time Capsule, as it is connected through my Lan. I have a lot of valuable data and i would appreciate any suggestion or help on recovering these folders. Please note that i have not written or deleted any files since the accident.

I have the same issue and am about to make another post ... Have you head anything or gotten any tips?

  • How can i format my MacBook Pro hard disk and recover my data from time capsule?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro is running slow, more and more. Everything started with the "upgrade" to Lion.
Can I re-format my hard disk and recover from Time Capsule only the data and applications I really need (including Snow Leopard as OS, maybe)?
    Thanks

The problem is that it is a Western Digital 3.5 inch internal hard drive housed inside a hard drive caddy. So the only way to connect it to my computer is through a dock.

  • Restored system from Time Capsule but now lost access to the backup files

Last week, my drive flaked out and I had to restore my system from my Time Capsule. Now everything is back to normal except that I've noticed that upon trying to auto backup my Mac Pro, it says the disk is full. When I use Time Machine to access my old files, it appears I no longer have access to anything I had previous to restoring my system from my Time Capsule. I believe the link to the old backup file is broken and it's trying to create a new full backup file, in addition to keeping the old file.
Is this normal behaviour after a full restore from a Time Capsule or can I still somehow relink my computer to the file from which it was restored, and still have access to my backup files?

Yes; everything you restored is treated as changed and will be backed-up again: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338 Time Machine most likely deleted all but the last backup, trying to make room for the new one.

Exactly how did you restore? Did you restore your entire system, starting with your Snow Leopard Install disc?
If you didn't, it's possible the account you're using is not recognized as the same one on your backups.
Can you see the last backup? If not, see #E2 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

  • New hard drive and need to restore from time capsule

I replaced my hard drive with a new 1TB drive. Now I need to retore everything from my Apple time capsule. I'm having some trouble doing so. I first booted up with the new drive and selected restore from back up under disk utility and everything seemed to be going fine until I had to restart the computer when it was finished. When I did, I got the "panic" error and the computer wouldn't boot up in any mode (ie safe mode). I then started holding C button to start with the operating disk in and at set it up that way. My back up stuff is on there somewhere because 150GB is being used but my computer looks like it just came out tf the box. I also did a upgrade to Lion last year, How do I get that back?
    Thanks for any help

  • Reinstalling data from Time Capsule, but for only one user

    Hello!
I just got a new-used MacBook Pro and need to use Time Capsule to retrieve my old hard drive's data, but I do not want to overwrite the existing data on the laptop's drive, since it is different, including the OS, I believe. I would like to split the disc, as it were, without partitioning it, for multiple users using Time Capsule. Can I safely use Time Capsule to put all the files only into one user account, or do I need to wipe the drive and partition...?

You can use the +Migration Assistant+ app to transfer one or more user accounts from the old Mac, without overwriting anything on the new one. Those will be a separate accounts, with the same logins as on the old Mac. Each user account will have it's own preferences, data, etc. See the pink box in #19 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for details.
That won't "merge" two or more user accounts, since each user's data is private. You can do that manually, if you want, by copying data from one user account to another, but it's rather tedious.
You may also need to be careful if there's a big difference in the versions of OSX and/or 3rd-party apps on the two Macs; you may have apps and/or data on one that aren't compatible with the other. In many cases, a newer version of an app will work with the data from an older version, but not vice-versa. You may want to check that out rather carefully first.
If that's a "deal breaker," there may be a (rather clumsy) workaround; partition the internal disk, so you have, say, Leopard on one partition and Snow Leopard on the other. Then boot from whichever you want. In that case, you'd do a full system restore to the new partition, per #14 in the FAQ. That will only work, though, if the Pro will even run the other version -- generally, a Mac won't run a version of OSX that's older than the Mac's hardware.

  • Changed my laptop-transferred old data from time capsule but cannot access

So I was backing up onto TC with my old laptop as normal. I then changed laptops and restored from the TC to get all data onto the néw laptop. No problem there.
I then started backing up my new laptop onto the TC however the old backups and new one are not linked. Whe I go into Time Machine I can see that there are old backups there (from the old laptop) but they are greyed out and I can't get back to pull any data out.
How can I get the old and new linked?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
You've posted your message in the Time Capsule message section, but where it really should have gone is in the Time Machine section of the OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard area:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1342
A Time Capsule is an Apple AirPort Wi-Fi base station with an integrated disk drive. Time Machine is backup software that has been included with OS X since version 10.5.
That's the way Time Machine works. It identifies a backup with a particular computer. Since you have a different computer, Time Machine created a new backup. This message thread discusses your situation:

I don't believe you can combine the two sets of backups. Your options now are (a) abandon the new backup and reconfigure your Mac to continue with the old backup or (b) continue with the new backup and use Time Machine's option to "Browser Other Time Machine Disks" (available with a click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, among other techniques) to access the contents of the old backup.

  • Time capsule green light - airport utility can't find time capsule

Hi guys, well here is my story. I struggled to get the TC to connect to my wireless network which is already being provided by a motorola wireless modem. I read somewhere that although 7.3.1 lists support for WEP it doesn't actually support it, so I changed all my security to WPA. Then I got the TC online and all was good, except for the slow transfer times, even from a USB HD that was plugged direct into the TC. So I then plugged in the TC via ethernet and moved the huge amounts of files in much faster succession. Now it's come time to make the TC connect wirelessly again. It just won't do it if I do auto setup, so I do a manual set up. I enter my WPA passwords, I set the TC to bridge mode and low and behold after restart the light on the TC goes green. Hooray!!! Then I go into finder but I can't see the time capsule, so I go to airport utility, it can no longer find the TC it just changed the settings on, that made it connect to the network. Airport utility claims there are no app;e wireless devices to be found...
Please help, how do I discover my TC?
Should I have changed the IPv6 to tunnel or node?
Also, when I click advanced in wireless the only option I see is for interference robustness, nothing about 2.4 or 5ghz. Where can I change this?
Any help would be great, cheers.

I'm having a similar issue, but only sporadically. My TC is plugged directly into my cable modem...it is the only wireless router in the system. The latest firmware updates are installed, and my MacBook Pro has 10.5.2 (installed via the combo update). Another Macbook and a mac mini, both with 10.4, also accesses the wireless network.
Here's an example of TIme Capsule drop-out: this morning when I woke my Macbook Pro, it couldn't find the network. TC had a green light, so I opened Airport Utility. It couldn't find the TC. I unplugged the TC and waited for it to reboot. After it restarted, the wireless network connected just fine, but the TC itself didn't appear in the finder window. I opened Airport Utility again, and the TC appeared, but with a yellow dot next to it. The light on the TC itself was green. I tried to rescan the port, and the TC disappeared again. Wireless network was still working, though. A few minuted later, I rescanned again and the TC appeared. I clicked on Manual setup, and Airport scanned again and couldn't find the TC. I left it in frustration, and came back two hours later. Voila, the TC appears in the finder window and Airport has no problem accessing it.
So what the heck? I'm willing to wipe it and start over, but I just installed the thing. All I've done is set up time machine, run the firmware update, plugged in a usb hub with a couple of shared drives and a printer (which doesn't print more than a couple of pages at a time before it freezes, but that's an issue for another post).
Any thoughts and suggestion greatly appreciated!

  • Time capsule name change, now I can't find my old backups

    Hi to all,
I changed the name of my wifi network on my time capsule and while I was at it, I also changed the name of the Time Capsule itself.
Then, after upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion I noticed that Time machine could not find the back up disk.
When I go to Time Machine I can select the new disk, but it shows oldest backup: none. Uh-oh!
How do I properly reconnect to my Time Capsule without:
         1. doing a full new backup?
         2. losing all my old backups?
One more question, is it possible to see my old Snow Leopard backups after my ML upgrade, or are they no longer accesible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You,
    Dean

Scary looking, but most likely, not a problem.  Time Machine just hasn't bothered to look at the backups so it can display that.  See #B3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

         1. doing a full new backup?

You probably aren't really disconnected.  Try Entering Time Machine -- if you see your backups in the timeline on the right, everything's cool.
One more question, is it possible to see my old Snow Leopard backups after my ML upgrade
Yes.   If you just did the simple upgrade, the backups will all be visible, just as before.  If you erased your HD and installed ML, until the next backup, the old backups will appear to be from a different disk, that's no longer attached.  You can see them via the procedure in #E3 of the same link.
If you erased, depending on how you put your data back, Time Machine may automatically "associate" the erased disk with the old backups.  If it doesn't, you can tell it to, per #B6 in the same link (the pink box).
