Migrated MacBook Pro to 2011 Air duplicated the Appications folder twice
Migrated 2009 MacBook Pro to 2011 Macbook Air 13" i7, the migration asistance was updated. What migration resulted in a Applications folder being created inside the normal Applications folder with all application in both.
Problem occured when you migrated, start all over again with a fresh 10.6 install, update, install your programs from fresh sources, create a same name user and then return the contents of user file folders (music, docs, pics, movies, but not Library) right into the same folders again.
Dont' use migration, setup or TM, use a plain storage drive to store your files and return them.
Then erase TM and start it all over again from the new pristine boot drive.

I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro 13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?

Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.

Does the new Macbook Pro 13 2011 work with the Intel SSD?
I've been trying to upgrade my macbook pro to an ssd (using stock original 5400 rpm 320 gb HDD) but so far I've been reading for like 2-3 hrs and came to a conclusion. Intel is the most reliable and most highly recommended. However, Intel SSD doesn't work with the new Macbook Pro 13" & 17" because of some cabling SATA III issues. Does the issue still remain or has it been fixed? If it hasn't been fixed, what is the current most highly recommended and reliable and best in terms of speed, reliability, and just...best SSD available that works best with the 2011 MBP? Can anyone help me out? Ive been reading that OCZ and others are faster than Intel but less reliable (higher failure rates) and MBP can't take advantage of faster 6/Gbps RAID III or something. help me!!! Should I just wait?
If you search the web, you will predominately read about problems, not good experiences.
I don't believe Intel is any less subject to issues, than the Sandforce SSD drives.
Buy from a reliable source with a good return policy and warranty.

this could be due to a problem on your disk. You can try this to see if it makes a difference: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. -

How do I install the recover portion of OS X 10.10.1 on my MacBook Pro late 2011? It is missing!
When I boot up my MacBook Pro late 2011 while pressing the option key it should show the recovery icon which it doesn't.
How do I install this portion of Yosemite?This was changed with Yosemite. The recovery is hidden when booting with option. Hold command and R when booting to get into recovery (without option). If you see the globe, then it is actually going to Internet recovery, which means you do not have a local recovery.

Restoring dual boot os - windows 7 on MacBook Pro year 2011
Hi, I have a question to ask, I bought MacBook Pro in 2011, and extended the warranty till year 2015. I wish to send my MacBook back to apple service center to restore my windows os. Forgot to mention, dual boot os is window 7 and default Mac OS. So is it possible to do so? Thanks. Any charges? The MacBook still under warranty.
Where did you extend the warranty on a 2011 MBP to 2015?
It is my understanding that Apple will only extend the warranty for a total of three years which would make it 2014 rather then 2015.
As far as the Apple Service Center fixing BootCamp goes, you will need to discuss that with them. We have no connection to them what so ever and can't speak for them.

This is my first post here. As mentioned I have a fall 2011 15"Macbook Pro fall 2011 with Core i7 2.0 GHZ, 8GB RAM and i was thinking of buying a 2013 Macbook Air 13". Is it a good upgrade? I do light video editing and day to day tasks like word processing, email etc.
How would the performance of the Macbook Air with the Core i5 with 4 gb Ram be compared to the old Macbook Pro 15 with Core i7 Quad 2.0 ghz with 8 GB Ram.

SunnyThe main advantage would be a solid state drive. This will improve performance and speed moreso than RAM considerations. The disadvantage will be a loss of storage space. Moreover, one of the disadvantages of a SSD is that the more storage space used on it, the slower it becomes and the quicker it will deteroriate.
If you do video editing, I would take the GPU into consideration. Does your 15'' come with a discrete GPU? The integrated GPU on the MBA (intel HD 5000) is better than the 2011 MBP integrated GPU (3000), but it includes no discrete GPU.
Depending on how much storage space you use on your HDD currently + how many graphics intensive programs you run, you may want to consider upgrading your current machine with a SSD, upgrading your RAM on current machine to 16 gb (~160$ through macmemory or newegg), or purchasing a new Macbook Pro rather than Macbook Air.
Last thing I would add:
You will never be able to upgrade MBA RAM. It is soldered to the logicboard on the new models, non-retina included. You may wan to opt with the 8 GB RAM configuration. -
What is the problem with 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 after connecting to TV with HDMI chord?
Today we connected a 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 with HDMI chord to an Insigna Television. We plugged and unplugged couple of times. But recently the macbook pro is having technical issues. The following symptoms are:
1. Macbook pro turns on and off
2. The screen stays blue and keeps loading but does not load to the desktop so you can't access to anywhere
3. The screen sometimes becomes fuzzy and the apple logo that shows before it loads to the desktop is fuzzy
4. Sometimes fuzzy lines appear on the screen like you see on television when there's a bad signal
5. The screen stays blue
6. Sometimes little specks appear on the screen
Only thing we did was turn it off and restart but it still leads to the same symptoms above.
Does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I am guessing it is due to the connection to the HDMI chord, since we didn't turn the macbook on and off when we plugged it, rather we just unplugged and plugged the chord while the macbook is running.
Another theory might be watching movies from an online source but the first theory seems to make more sense.
We scheduled a meeting with the genius bar tomorrow but does anyone might have any clue? And also any ideas how to fix this? This is an emergency because there are important files on the macbook we didn't back up and we hope the files are safe and we need to use the macbook ASAP. I am attempting to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) via the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI. I have successfully connected the two devices and can select "SONY TV XV" in the sound preference pane. I can see and hear what I'd like, however, I can only monitor the sound in 2 channel stereo. I have my TV connected to a Sony 7.1 audio receiver via an optical cable and can monitor 7.1 sound via other sources (Blu-ray, broadcast, etc). When I go into the Audio Midi Setup utility, I am unable to configure my speakers to be anything but 2 channel stereo. I am given the options for "2ch-16bit", "2ch-20bit", "2ch-24bit" and "Encoded Digital Audio". When I select "Encoded Digital Audio", my output automatically changes to Built-in Output. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue? Thanks for all your help!
GreggI have tested it with the Moshi (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support) and Belkin (http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA342ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter) adapters, both purchased from the Apple Store with no such luck. Have you or anyone else had success with any other third-party adapters?

On my Macbook pro 15, 2011, System Profiler is suggesting that it uses SATA III for the hard drive and SATA II for the Optical Drive. Is that true?
That is correct. The tech specs indicate:

I am using windows 8.1 pro on my Japanese macbook pro (Late 2011) and enabled japanese language but the problem is that when i press caps lock (lower left corner) it changes the input method from english to japanese. I checked my on screen keyboard (OSK) in windows and its different from my physical keyboard i.e. keys are different on my physical keyboard compared to OSK. Can anyone help me?

How do I remove old applications from my new Macbook Pro that were part of the data that was migrated over from my older iMac?
ThanksIf the applications were originally drag and drop installations you can simply drag them to the trash and empty. If they were installed by an installer there should be an uninstaller included. If you're not sure you should check with the software developer for instructions. In this case Google can be your friend.

I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. It is now running Mavericks. I connect it to a 27" Cinema Display that I bought in China after we moved to China. Before I installed Mavericks, I could run all of the Adobe CS6 and Adobe CS5.5 applications on my Macbook Pro while connected to the cinema display. Now that I have Mavericks installed, whenever I am connected to my 27" CInema display my Adobe applications crash upon opening. I know this is a rare scenario, but does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a new driver that needs installed? I'd appreciate any help.
I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.
