Migrated to new iMac - how to retrieve old non-Mac mail?

I have been using an old MacBook Pro, but recently bought a new iMac. I used the me.com iSync (I think that's what it is called) to sync my Mail accounts to me.com, and then to sync with the new iMac. The Mac mail came over just fine ([email protected]) but I had several other accounts set up in Mail on the MBP - Yahoo, a few Gmail accounts, my web site's accounts, etc. None of the email messages came over. I get new emails on my iMac to these non-Mac accounts, but I would like to transfer over the old ones as well. I have tried to click "Get Mail" but it looks like this just gets new mail.
Is there a way on my iMac in Mail to retrieve old emails (including Sent emails) from non-Mac accounts? I keep having to go back to my MBP to find/reference old emails.

Reference Kappy's advice in method 1. I think this would do it for you.

  • New iMac-how to use old and new

So, I'm in the middle of migrating my settings from my old iMac to my new iMac. I've already started transfering my settings and applications.
I was going to give my old iMac to my husband, who now has a MacMini. After I started transferring, he told me I should just keep both iMacs for working. It would actually be convenient - Keep one for having browser, planning, mail, business apps open at all times and the other for heavy-duty Photoshop, etc. work.
What should I do to be able to work on both? Do I need to re-do my set up on the new  one? The settings and apps really should be the same any way - do I need to create a different user?

Do I need to set up a different user on each computer?
    No
Right now, becuase I was in the process of migrating, the new iMac is a duplicate of what's on the old. Do I need to create a new user on one and delete it on the other? What happens if I have the users duplicated?
Not necessary, when you migrate it will make a clone of the other machine if you choose all options. If you want then to remain synced  you can do so with the same user account and AppleID assuming you use iCloud and both machines are on Lion. You can sync what I noted in my first post.
I want to use one more for light business apps and one for my image processing.
If your goal is to sync apps and data currenlty there isn't an automated method of doing that other than keeping the data on an account such as DropBox. If you don't have a DropBox account then that may be what you're looking for however you will have to pay for data in excess of 2GB. The first 2GB is free.

  • New iMac won't recognize old AIM account

Got my parents a new iMac and trashed their old e-Mac. Started from scratch, ported nothing from old machine and got everything installed and updated OK. In launching iChat, however, it pulled me through a new install and then forced me to register as a new account. I use the old ID and password but it says that it's already taken (Duh! Yes, by me.) Dead end. Did not want to create a new iChat or AIM account.
iChat opens but it's not showing the AIM account (it does show Bonjour, however) and all the pull down commands (Buddy List, etc.) are grayed out.
How can I get this new iChat app to see my old AIM iChat gateway?

    Great!!!; thanks.
(I was following the "Set up..." button and putting myself in an endless loop of creating a new account and not being able to use the old one. Should have ignored that and just entered the old account.)

  • Migration to new IMAC from old IMAC with a Backup Drive

I purchased an new IMAC and have an old IMAC and have migrated all of my stuff from old to new, except I have a external backup drive on the old IMAC and did not migrate it. I thought that I would migrate by attaching it to the new but do not have the right cables. Can I connect the backup drive to the old with the firewire that I have and connect the old IMAC to the new one with the cables that I used, or do I have to buy the right connector to connect the backup to the new IMAC.
    Thanks

  • Migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message.

Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

    Hi Mark,
If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -
OS X: About the incompatible software folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
    In particular -
If you see a message indicating that you can't use "this version" of an app, contact the software's vendor or visit their website to see if a later, compatible version of the app is available. If you purchased the software from the Mac App Store, use Software Update to see if an updated version is available there.
    and
During installation, OS X moves known-incompatible software to a folder named "Incompatible Software" at the top level of the startup drive. If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. To obtain a newer version of an Apple app, check the Mac App Store, or visit the Apple Store website.
Regarding installing an older operating system on your new iMac, Apple does not support doing this, as described in this article -
Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Trouble migrating to new iMac.

Trouble migrating to new iMac. Seems stuck in preparing information for over an hour. When I click the back button on new Mac it says authenticating  what should I do?

Whew, I think you'll have to start over, & use Disk Utility to Verify or Repair both Hard Drives before trying again.

  • I own a copy of Aperture. my hard drive crashed and i want to load aperture onto my new imac. how do i do it?

I own a copy of Aperture. my hard drive crashed and I want to reoad aperture onto my new imac. how do i do it?

Depends on how you bought Aperture to begin with..
If you bought it from the Mac App Store simply log in to the MAS using the same Apple ID you used to buy it and download it
If you bought Aperture on DVD you will need to install from the DVD using the serial number you received with the DVD package.
If you bought Aperture through a digital download prior to the MAS, say a trial version you upgraded, things get a bit more complicated. You will need to install from the original DMG package file you downloaded and use the serial number Apple set you went you purchased it.

A have new problem that has appeared in my Mac Mail.  When I type a frequently used email into the 'To: line' it populates the correct name but with 8 different email addresses not associated with that name.  I have gone to the window pop-down to 'previous recipients' and deleted that addressee as well as all the email addresses it is assigning to that name.  I have also deleted the account entirely from my address book.  I have have run repair permissions and also full defrag in iDefrag.  Still the problem persists.  Any suggestions?

    Hello CarolineLongEaton,
I noticed you posted this problem quite a while ago and wondered if you managed to have it fixed in an alternative way then posting here. It is too bad no one has posted a solution here. I have a similar problem and if you have had yours solved since this occurance how you accomplished it may help me with mine. I am interested to know what you have done about yours.
If you are interested in comparing the problems to see if your solution (if you have found one) might help me also then here is the link to the discussion.

  • How can i set up mac mail so each line starts with a capital letter?

how can i set up mac mail so each line starts with a capital letter?

I am pretty sure that this is not an option within Apple Mail.

  • How can i signout the mac mail?

i cant figure out how to sign out of mac mail ?

Mail menu, select Quit Mail.  If that fails, check the Window Menu, Activity Viewer to see if it needs to stop being busy.  If it is frozen, and you aren't reading or composing a meesage, click on
    command-option-escape to force quit it.
Otherwise wait for it to finish doing its tasks.

  • I had a data migration done from old iMac to new iMac, how do I use that file to find my old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

I recently had a data migration from old iMac to new iMac 11.2
How do I use that data file to get old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

FireWire cables are dirt cheap and that's how you should be doing the migration. You might have to start over, wiping the new machine's HD, and restoring the software as described in the Everything Mac manual that came with it. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac for more details.
