Migrating 9.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 on the same server/host:OS=Windows/VMWARE

I am migrating data and performing an upgrade from 9.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 on the same VMWARE virtual hosts. Each host is a production host. The customer does not have test, QA, or development environments or hardware either virtual or otherwise to support testing or QA. I have to migrate directly to an Oracle 10.2.0.3 database and product on their production Virtual hosts currently running a single 9.2.0.1 instance and database. They are running Windows 2000 SP4 on two of the production VMWARE hosts and Windows 2003 on the other production VMWARE host.
They desire for me to upgrade their production 9i database on the same virtual host. This is my plan and wanted to know if this makes sense or is feasible in Oracle 10g:
1. Inform all users of the PROD database that it will not available until upgrade/migration is complete. (one PROD database is 30GB large, another is 100GB large. I will do the 30GB upgrade/migration first on the PROD1 VMWARE host then perform the second 100GB upgrade/migration on the PROD2 VMWARE host). Sequentially not simultaneously.
2. Perform Backups: Create a full export of the 9i production databases. Create full backups using RMAN. Create cold backups of all 9i database files from the PROD databases. If possible, take a VMWARE image of the Oracle 9i homes and oradata files and then shutdown the Oracle 9i database when ready to start the install of Oracle 10g and finally import and migration of 9i data to 10g 10.2.0.3.
3. Shutdown all 9i services on the production VMWARE host, which I will call, PROD.
4. Install Oracle 10.2.0.1 in a separate Oracle 10g home on PROD.
5. Patch Oracle 10.2.0.1 home to 10.2.0.3 using OUI interactive mode of the patch.
6. Create a 10.2.0.3 database using the Database Configuration Assistant (10.2.0.3).
7. Create necessary tables spaces and user accounts that the 9i export will be expecting on the 10.2.0.3 database. (I will take counts and metrics of 9i DBA_OBJECTS, V$VIEWS and row counts of all tables, views, etc before shutting down the 9i databases to compare once the 10g 10.2.0.3 import has completed). I will also create DML scripts of all the 9i tables spaces, user accounts, roles and profiles. I need to confirm if the 9i database(s) are running OLAP and contain materialized views as well and prepare the new 10g databases for this as well.
8. Execute imp utility 10.2.0.3 using the dmp file from the 9.2.0.1 export.
9. Execute required migration scripts to the 10.2.0.3 database using the scripts contained in rdbms/admin as documented in the 10g Upgrade manual and the 10.2.0.3 patch notes. Compile INVALID objects, etc.
Questions I have are:
1. Will I still be able to run the Oracle 9.2.0.1 database on the same host as the newly installed/migrated Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3 database? They will have different database names. I will be using the new Oracle 10g LISTENER. I will shutdown or disable the Oracle 9i LISTENER. I can set the ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOMES to point to either the 9i database or the 10g 10.2.0.3 database depending on which one I want to run.
2. Is this possible or will the Oracle 10g install and patch install corrupt the 9i home or the Windows 2000 (SP 4) registry to where I can no longer run the 9i (9.2.0.1) database on the sam Virtual Host as the Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3 database?
3. Will Oracle 10g Grid 10.2.0.3 agent be able to monitor both the Oracle 9.2.0.1 database and the Oracle 10.2.0.3 database listening on the Oracle 10.2.0.3 LISTENER on the same PROD host?
Sorry for the large thread but this has been the migration/upgrade from hell and the first production upgrade/migration has not been going well. The Oracle Upgrade Assitant running in 10.2.0.1 failed and corrupted both the Oracle 9i home and the Oracle 9i data. I recovered by creating a new Oracle 10g database and using export/import to get the last good export of the corrupted 9i database over to the new Oracle 10g database. Luckily I have recovered the 9i data and most of the objects in a new Oracle 10.2.0.1 database and is now running in production and I am performing the final patch and upgrade to 10.2.0.3 on this database.

Are you saying the notes are incorrect?
No, I wasn't commenting on that at all. I was just saying that DBUA is the recommended way of upgrading databases... and that's in spades if you're talking about 100GB databases.
I'll lay odds that DBUA to 10.2.0.1 and then patching to 10.2.0.3 is quicker than exporting and importing 100GB of data.
(Applying a 10.2.0.3 patch is done with opatch and doesn't require a fresh installation of Oracle. A patch mostly just modifies the data dictionary: it's finished in minutes, not hours).
My real point: these sorts of questions are incredibly easy to ask, answer, discard, re-ask, modify, mull over and basically experiment with in a virtual environment.
And again: it's utterly bizarre why you wouldn't have physical access to this database (and keep in mind that I can't keep in mind little nuggets of information such as this one which you didn't see fit to share earlier!)
It's in a virtual server. Virtual servers can be zipped up and emailed! (OK, maybe not 100GB... but I've shipped a small hard disk in a zip-lok pack envelope half way round the world before now -though obviously it wasn't critical to have the contents of that envelope available for use all the time... Still, it sounds to me like here's a technology (virtualisation) that's not being properly exploited).

    If you want to copy files/folders from one Volume to another volume within the same server, you could use the File Server Migration Tool (FSMT) or Robocopy to accomplish your goals. The tool can move all of the files from the shares on your original volume
    to the new volume.

  • Migrate Active Directory 2008 to 2012 but need to keep the same ip address and server name

    Hi,
    Current setup is 2 DCs in one site running 2008 R2 AD.
    We are planning to migrate from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 but need to keep the same ip address and server name. I have came up two plans to do this and hope someone can tell me which one would be the best approach. What is the pros
    and cons in Plan A and B or may be plan C if there is a better one?
    First, I was planning to do plan A but just had a second thought of Plan B.  My concern in Plan A is about changing the server name when the new 2012 R2 already running as DC.  Plan B would be changing all the old server
    name and ip before they become member sever and DC. 
    Any information and suggestion would be very appreciated.
    Plan A
    Run adprep /forestprep on 2008 R2 DC
    Build a new 2012 R2 server and promote it as 3rd DCs in current Domain
    Transfer FSMO from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2
    Run Repadmin /syncall to force replication
    Rename the demoted 2008 R2 DC to something else
    Change the demoted 2008 R2 ip address to something else
    Restart the demoted 2008 R2 server to take effect
    Now, run Netdom computername command to change the new 2012 R2 server name to the old 2008 R2 DC server name
    Change the new 2012 R2 DC's ip to old 2008 R2 DC's ip
    Run ipconfig /flushdns
    Run ipconfig /registerdns
    DCDIAG to see any error
    Plan B
    Build 2 new 2012 R2 standalone servers
    In 2008 R2 ServerA transfer FSMO to 2008 R2 ServerB
    Demote 2008 R2 ServerA to become member server
    Rename 2008 R2 ServerA to something else and change the ip address to something else and shut it down
    Now, rename one of the new 2012 R2 standalone server to the old demoted 2008 R2 ServerA name
    Change the new 2012 R2 standalone server ip to the old demoted 2008 R2 ServerA's ip address
    Add the new 2012 R2 standalone server (now with the old 2008 R2 ServerA name and ip) to become member server
    Run adprep /forestprep on the 2008 R2 ServerB

    Renaming a Domain Controller is a risky operation which may lead to issues, therefore, I would suggest you go with the Plan B, rename the server before it becomes DC.

  • HT4191 My Contacts Journal Professional CRM Journal crashes at the initial seconds of iCloud Migration. Has anybody with this application experience this situation. The developer has been contacted.

    Each time i have been trying what you put up for me,i always delete The Application Completely,then go to iTune Apps Store to re-download it. I know the apps store will not give me an old version,that is why i do not use my Mac or iMac to replace the application however this has also been updated on my Macs.
    I reiterated in my message yesterday that,it is not that what you asked me to do is not working or i did not follow your instructions into details. I did follow every steps you stated.
    The end result is that, WHEN IT REACHES DATA MIGRATION,THE SCREEN WILL BE BLACK OR LIGHT BLUE BLACK,WITH A WHITE SCROLLING LINE THREAD ON THE DEVICE SCREEN,MEANING MIGRATION IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. THIS WILL MOVE FOR ABOUT 2 or 3SECONDS,AND IT WILL CRASH.
    I have tried this several time,i do not mind starting all over again,i just want it to work with iCloud. We can give you feedback,and i praise your effort for not getting tired to respond. This is a good and real customer service assistance of which i really appreciate.
    My devices are up-to-date,and the application i download is the latest version.
    Please let's makes this application work,there is non like it on The Apps Store. So you should be proud of your work and your innovation which i see as very powerful as well as extremely useful. But when it becomes unworkable it render all my eulogies to your effort meaningless.

    This is very important. If you are running the previous version of the app (3.2.1), then this crash will definitely happen on iOS6.1. You need to upgrade the CJournal app to the latest.     I have been using this application since it has been introduced,i know all the ups and downs,but not like this.

    There is honestly nothing we can do at this point. There's no bug to fix. The problem is you did a Delete All of your iCloud data, without making a backup first. If you had a backup of your data, we could be able to help you, but that data is nowhere right now.

    And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
    Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
    No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
    and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
    But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

    Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
    As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
    If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.

    First, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop).  Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
    Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
    Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts.  Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
    You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
    Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
    Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards).  You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
    You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.

              After this, i go to admin console and migrate teh JTA and JMS. After this, i am
              expecting other running Managed Server should restart the incomplete transaction.
              But this is not happening. The Managed Serve2 doesn't process the requst.
              But when i restart teh MAnaged SErver 1 again, it takes up the same request and
              processes it.
              Is this a known problem with Weblogic that it doesn't support Ctlr+C case?
              Please note that the same thing is working fine when i stop the server using Admin
              console(Normal shutdown OR forced shutdown).
              Any comments in this regards are apprecciated.

    I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

    In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
    If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them. 
    (I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

    I am currently trying to migrate our SharePoint 2010 environment to SharePoint 2013. The first thing I'm doing is creating a 2013 development environment to verify that this migration goes smoothly. I'm also doing this so that we will have a testing environment
    after the upgrade to 2013 is complete. 
    So here is my question: I have a 3 tier farm including; 1 app server, 1 wfe, and 1 sql server. I have made a copy of our SharePoint 2010 database and installed that on our sql server 2012 sever (This new environment is on 3 completely separate servers from
    our 2010 environment). I have also installed the prereqs and configured SharePoint 2013 on the App server and wfe servers, as well as configuring the necessary service applications (I have created a completely new 2013 database where I will migrate my 2010
    database content when I'm ready).
    I am now at the point where I need to create a new web application on the 2013 app server, where I will be migrating the copied 2010 database.  (Also note that we have a 2010 development site called https://[email protected])
    When I go to create a new web application in our 2013 dev environment, can I use the same url (https://[email protected]) to create this web app, or will this screw up our current 2010 dev environment?
    I'm new to SharePoint migrations, so I apologize if this is a stupid question.

    So, what you are recommending is that before I create a web application in my new 2013 environment, I need go into my hosts file on my 2013 app server and alter it to point to my 2013 wfe.
    Then after I do that, then I can create my new web application on my 2013 app server with the same url as my 2010 testing environment
    (https://[email protected]). 
    Then after that I should be able to access my new sharepoint 2013 environment at the same URL (https://[email protected])?
    I must be missing something.
    In your first reply, you told me to alter the host file on my 2010 app server and point it to my 2010
    wfe (I guess I thought it probably already is). You also told me to alter the host file on my 2013 app server and point it to my 2013 wfe. 
    so I am confused on after I do this, what url would I access my 2010 test environment, and what url would
    I access my 2013 test environment?
    I am fine with having my test environment as a different URL until I am totally ready to roll everything over and kill the 2010 site. But I want to make sure that when I migrate my database, none of the site links are broken.
    I also want to make sure that if I proceed this way, I want to be sure that I will be able to modify the URL to what my 2010 environment is (without a lot of headaches) when I am ready to kill the 2010 site.

  • Migrating data from one account to another on the same Mac

    One of the accounts on my Mac has been plagued with problems ever since the upgrade to Snow Leopard. Safari crashes when attaching photos along with other apps crashing as well.
    I just purchased one of the new iMacs (which is really sweet BTW) and used the migration assistant to move all accounts. It would seem that the "currupted" account followed and still has issues with crashing apps (none of the other accounts have this problem so its not system wide).
    What I want to do is create a new admin account and manually move all of my data. What would be the best way to accomplish this? Hopefully whatever is causing the crashing issue won't follow.

    when you copy stuff do it via a location that both accounts have read access to, say, /Users/Shared. log into the old account and copy what you need to /Users/shared. then log out log into the new account and copy those things back to the new home directory. copying rather than moving files will ensure that you won't have permissions issues later.

    Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
    When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
    Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
    One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

  • How do I remove migrated PPC apps from Intel iMac that has the same apps?

    Before I begin, please know that I've read a lot of previous posts but all the posts only had some of what I needed so I'm posting this as a new topic. OK, here I go:
    My PPC running 10.5 just froze-up (that has since been solved) but in the process of solving that issue, I migrated everything as a different user (User B) INCLUDING my applications, to my Intel iMac - my iMac that also had the same applications on it - except they were intel versions and they were under User A.
    So I essentially did an archive and clean install on my PPC.
    Then, using Migration Assistant, I transferred User B onto my PPC. Now both of my computers have duplicates of most of my applications. In trying to fix this issue, I found out I should NOT have transferred my applications. So now I'm very confused as to which apps I should remove off my PPC and which I should remove off my intel iMac.
    If I just delete User B from my intel iMac, that's easy enough but will that remove the dupes? I have a funny feeling it doesn't.
    And then, which do I remove from my PPC?
    AND THEN, are there other things I will need to remove from different places on my computer?

    Normally application go in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive, not in any user folders. If you have applications in user folders that are the same as those in the Applications folder, you can delete them from the user folders. If you actually migrated PPC applications into the Applications folder on an Intel Mac, it would have replaced the Intel versions. To fix that,you would have to reinstall OSX on the Intel Mac.
    The same thing would apply on the PPC Mac.

    Does anyone know if CHaRM has the capabilities to migrate transports (within a maintenance cycle) to the same system multiple times?
    Let me explain.
    When we move a maintenance cycle (release) through our landscape we move from;
    Development system - Quality system - Volume system. Then to production
    UAT is being done in both the quality system and the volume system.
    Once all testing is complete, we refresh the volume system with a fresh copy of the production system and re-import all the transports. This is to allow our BASIS team to do regression (batch) and load testing.
    Is there a way to use CHaRM to migrate the transports or is this something that needs to be done manually (as it is today).

    Move small groups of files to the /Users/Shared/ folder or another location and see if the problems disappear. Moving everything to a new user account will in all probability transfer the problems.
