Migrating all preferences/settings to another system.

I'm about to switch to a new system. I've read some posts about transferring the actual library over and getting LR to "see" all the photos on the new drive, but I'm still unclear how to migrate the LR settings over to the new system. I want to transfer the LR preferences, as well as things like the Jeffrey Friedl's Metadata presets and Configuration customizations, over to the new system as smoothly as possible. Unfortunately, it's been so long since I set things up that I can no longer remember how I did it or what changes I made.
Do I need to start from scratch and re-learn all this stuff again, or are there tricks to getting the new system set up like the current one with minimal effort? I was hoping that I could copy some files/folders over to the new system such that a new LR install would automatically be set up like the current one.
Thanks,
Larry

Take a look at the FAQ for location of preferences. Move that file.
In addition, your presets and so on are located in basically the same location. You might as well copy the entire folder over to the new system.
Jeffrey's configuration tool creates a translatedstrings.txt file in your Program Files\Resources\En folder, IIRC. You can copy that one over too.
Those along with your catalog ought to do it.

  • ID CS3 Exporting/moving all preferences/settings/workspaces to new PC

    ID CS3: Any way to move all InDesign preferences & settings & workspaces to a new PC in one or more files, saving much setup time and getting it right in only a minute? The only thing I'm aware of is that I can move library files.

    Workspaces are portable, as are keyboard shortcut sets and any custom presets you've created.  You'll find most of this stuff under your user profile at \Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0 (this is for XP -- it will be similar in Vista).<br /><br />Presets need to be saved from the define dialogs for each type (document, print, or PDF) and saved as external files that can be reloaded. PDF joboptions must be saved individually, but print and document presets can be saved in sets.<br /><br />Your actual preferences are saved in two files. InDesign Defaults is in the director listed above. InDesign SavedData is in :\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0\caches. I copy these two files all the time for backup and for installation at school where the machines are identical, but Adobe does not support or recommend copying preferences from one machine to another.<br /><br />Peter

  • How can I migrate my iCal settings to another Mac?

    I have two Macs. On one, I am trying to set it up to connect to the enterprise calendar system here at work, but it's not working, even though I'm trying every instruction sheet I have found online or here at work. Now, on the second Mac, iCal is properly set up to connect to all of the calendars I'm trying to access... but I don't remember what I did to set that one up.
    Is there a way to just grab all of the settings (in plists, I imagine) from the working Mac and bring them over to the non-working one?

    Howdy Joe,
    Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
    If you need to migrate the information from one computer to another, then you can use the Migration Assistant utility.  To learn more about using it, please see the information in the article below.

    We're giving my wife's old laptop to our children. We have already set up her E-mail accounts on the new laptop which is now 2-3 months old. • How to remove applications/preferences in "others" of "system preference"

    Hi.
    i have "application enhancer" as a result of installing some game, "authoxy" a proxy bypass, "divx" for mac, etc.
    i would like to know how to uninstall these applications/preferences settings frmo the "SYSTEM PREFERENCES" part of mac os.
    points rewards

    The program itself would likely remain intact. But you'd need to access its preferences from within the program itself -- if that's possible. Depends on the program I would imagine. I'm not familiar with any of the game programs you mentioned.
    It's been my experience that those programs which provide their own preference panes in System Preferences also tend to use their own installer and uninstaller programs (Flip4Mac and Microsoft Intellimouse software come to mind here, on my machine). For example, my Microsoft IntelliMouse works fine whether the pref pane is in System Prefs or not -- I'd just need to go into the Applications folder and open the Microsoft Mouse application on those occasions when I would want to make changes. That said, when one of these programs does install a preference pane, I ususally leave it alone ...so it's your call.
    I suppose if you would ever need to reinstate the preference pane in System Preferences, you could run the program's installer again. Good luck!

  • How can I migrate all users preferences from 1 user to another on same MAC

    To get CS3 to work Adobe tech support had me create a new user account and install from there. Now the NEW account is the only account CS3 works in but all my settings, files, addresses, EVERYTHING are under the old account. Since it works on one account it's not their problem anymore. Is there ANYWAY to get all my old stuff from old account to new. I don't know where to begin, it's like I'm at a new computer. I can get to some of my files but can't save them back where they belong, grayed out.

    Hi and a warm welcome to the forums!
    I think we'd be better off figuring out how to install it for the other User, but...
    Do a Get info on the Adobe Apps/Folders in Applications on the working User, report the 3 Rights/Privileges.

  • My safari does not keep my history despite all the settings and adjustment i made to the safari preferences so as to be able to keep my browsing history. the browsing history is wiped out whenever i close safari.

    i use macbook pro mid 2012, OS X mavericks. my safari does not keep my history desp[ite all the adjustments made to the settings at safari preferences. my browsing history are cleared whenever i exit safari. i dont know why. i want to try and re - in stall it . the safari is version 7.0.1. but i dont know how.

    If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How to Check System Preference Settings with Time Machine

    I just found and fixed a problem caused by a bad System Preference/Universal Access
    setting and would like to go back in my Time Machine backup to see where the
    error was made. I may have been too quick to blame the 10.5.3 update on the
    problem so wanted to look back in time.
    The problem is i don't know how to check System Preferences using the Time Machine.
    Any suggestion?

    If you're looking for specific settings, the short answer is you cannot. You can open the .plist files and try to find the specific option you're looking for, though it might not be too easy to decipher some of the contents of the .plist file. For the most part they're just lists of attributes and settings. For instance, here's a very small chunk of my Finder .plist file:
    <key>All Images.cannedSearch</key>
    <dict>
         <key>SidebarWidth</key>
         <integer>162</integer>
         <key>ToolbarVisible</key>
         <true/>
         <key>ViewHeight</key>
         <integer>1116</integer>
         <key>ViewStyle</key>
         <string>icnv</string>
         <key>WindowBounds</key>
         <dict>
              <key>bottom</key>
              <integer>1200</integer>
              <key>left</key>
              <integer>56</integer>
              <key>right</key>
              <integer>1920</integer>
              <key>top</key>
              <integer>84</integer>
         </dict>
    </dict>
    <key>AnimateInfoPanes</key>
    <true/>
    <key>AnimateSnapToGrid</key>
    <string>true</string>
    <key>AnimateWindowZoom</key>
    <true/>
    Each "key" is followed by an attribute, so for instance the "SideBar Width" key is given the "Width" integer attribute of 162. However, some keys have multiple entries, such as the "WindowBounds" key having sub-keys of "bottom", "left", "right", and "top".
    These values are finder preferences, though are not accessible via the finder's preference settings. However, buried deep in the Finder's .plist file are some of the user-editable settings:
    <key>ShowHardDrivesOnDesktop</key>
    <true/>
    <key>ShowMountedServersOnDesktop</key>
    <true/>
    <key>SidebarSearchesSectionDisclosedState</key>
    <false/>
    If you can find the attribute you're looking for, then that may help you narrow down which version of a .plist file to restore, though not all of them are straightforward legible text. Some have bizarre strings of seemingly random characters that only the application can interpret.

    Any inputs?

    I had 3 accounts, 2 ms exchange accounts and 1 yahoo. After removal of yahoo, everything is back to normal.

  • How migrate all settings from CC to CC2014

    In InDesign sync works, in Illustrator and Photoshop sync don't works.

    "CC 2014 is a new version of Photoshop, and when you first launch it, you are offered the opportunity to migrate your old settings if you wish."
    That pretty much says it's automated. Were talking about Adobe settings & presets (this includes personal presets made with your software).
    And syncing settings is not the same thing as migrating them from one version to another.
    Where was this explained to your customers? (Without them having to search for it)
    This isn't just an issue with PS it's pretty much all your CC Apps. Check your message boards.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/how-to/creative-cloud-sync-settings.html
    Nothing happened when I first opened PS or Illustrator. I was not given the option to sync. Are you trying to tell me that my presets & settings (including Workspaces) from
    the previous version will not work with this new version? Nonsense. So why didn't they sync?

  • UEV settings captured not roaming to another system

    Hi,
    We are testing UEV ver.2 onto 50 users on Win 7 system with offline enabled for laptops. I understand we have sync provider so not required to enable offlne file but the customer wants offline files enabled, so i have sync and offline both enabled. Offline
    is enabled on laptops only not on desktops. From GP we have disabled "do not use sync provider".
    The issue we are experiencing with some tester is that settings are not getting carried over to another system i.e. If i change IE favorite on PC1 the settings gets captured on both within users profile and home drive (setting storage path). On PC2 with
    the same user account the favorite does not migrate, although the home drive has the latest package setting template.
    Has anyone experienced such an issue and advise how to investigate and try fixing this ..
    appreciate any assistance in this regards.

    If the setting are updating when you hit the sync now button in the Company settings then it sounds like the files are being updated in the home directory but are not being applied to the local system.
    I would look at the schedule task are they disabled? Does the event viewer show any errors?
    check here:
    Event Viewer > Applications and Services > Microsoft >User Experience
    Virtualization > App Agent > Operational
    The main Schedule task you want to verify is working is "Sync Controller Application".  This one will sync the settings from the other system.

    If you are checking for CREATE option then Sales Doc Type
    For more Info goto SWO1 transaction -> BUS2032 --> DIsplay --> Execute --> There SELECT the method which you want to perform... There you can fine the MANDATORY parameters also....
    Or in DISPLAY mode PLACE Cursor on the Required Method and CLick the PARAMETERS button on toolbar...

  • HT4889 I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. How do I now 'migrate' all the files from both accounts into one to save myself having two accounts, both of which are me? Help?

    I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. I have read that I probably should not have skipped migration in the initial set up and the problem would have been avoided but, alas, here I am. Does anyone know how I can 'migrate' all the files from one of the accounts that has been created to the other, so then I can delete it and have a single user on the computer seeing as I am the only person using it? I have read starting again, if this is the way to go, where is the best place to start 'starting again'?

    Yes definitely should see it but its not coming up (I don't think) when I log out of 2nd user and into the main account. Opening finder in the 2nd account, I can obviously find the public folder because thats where I dropped all the files, but when in the main account, it can't be found. The only public folder that comes up is the folder for that account (main account) and it does not display files I'm looking for. Frustrating....
    EDIT: Have found it through a round-about way but all music and photo and movie etc files have a red stop sign disallowing them from being transferred. Can you guess what the next question will be?
