Migrating Crystal Reports Server R2 / Server Migration

I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before, but a search didn't find me what I'm looking for.
Our current CRS box has become unstable and the decision has been made to move CRS to a new server. We are simply looking for the best migration method that would allow us to keep all of our current configurations and schedules.
All components, including the database, are on the same box and would remain that way on the new box.
If anyone can supply a step by step approach, I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you in advance,
Jason

Hi,
do the following:
1. install new Server with CRS
2. copy your CMS Database from old DB to new DB
3. copy your filestore from old Server to new Server
Check the Adminguide how to copy your CMS DB using the CCM

  • Migrating Crystal reports to Bi Ondemand reports

Can any one guide me in detail  in handling the below requirement
The idea is to convert reports from Crystal report
(using SQL Server as a data source) to SAP BI OnDemand report
(using Salesforce objects as a data source).
There is another project that is taking care of migrating the data from SQL Server to Salesforce
    (along with other functionalities).

    Hello,
bi.ondemand.com uses Crystal Reports - it does not have its own type of reports.
So if you already have rpt files that use sql server, it should just be a matter of changing the datasource to use salesforce.com using the database expert inside the crytal reports designer.
Changing from sql server to salesforce.com is likely quite a large change though so I am not sure the database expert will be able to help you.  You may need to re-write the reports.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  • Trouble migrating Crystal Reports Custom Functions from BOXI R2 to BOXI 3.1

I can't seem to migrate the custom functions from the custom function repository in my R2 environment to the 3.1 with FP 1.3 environment.
When I migrate Crystal Reports using the Import Wizard, they all come over and they retain their custom functions, however, they don't bring over or create a new custom function repository.
When I do run the import wizard I have selected the repository radio button, but it does not have any affect .
How can I migrate all of these custom functions without having to manually open up reports and placing them back into the repository on the new server?
    Thanks,
    Randy

    Hi,
so if they are published to Rel.2 this looks different.
Just to clarify it a bit more...these Files are no Datasources for Reports and Universes and your Users dont consume them via InfoView?!
Whats the purpose for these Files? If they have none, you can de- select them in the UMT and dont migrate them (or better said move them cause you wont actually migrate .csv files). But if nobody touches them, you can move them with the UMT during daily business...how long it will take i cant estimate it. But 65GB for .CSV files is a huge amount.
But you are correct, to move them from Rel.2 to BI4 you have to use the UMT.
If you have the ressources and time i would recommend the following (Thats what i usually do with my customers):
    1. Setup a Machine (could be a VM) with the same OS and BOE Version (included SPs and FPs) as your production Rel.2
    2. Schedule a half day or day Downtime to copy the content 1:1 from the production Rel.2 to the VM Rel.2 with the IW or CMS DB Copy. Or do this after Business Hours.
    - With this Size of your FileStore i would recommend the CMS DB copy way.
    - Now you have a 1:1 Testing Environment of your Production Environment
    3. Use the UMT to migrate from your VM Rel.2 to your BI4 installation
    - Here you can see how long it takes
    - You can check if the UMT is capable for this 65GB transfer
    - Can sort out other possible issues
    - Do some other Testing
After you did that you have a perfect estimation on how long the Migration will take and what for issues you are facing. With this information you can decide if you need a downtime or can do it after Business Hours f.e.

  • The migrated Crystal Report throws "The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect" error

    [ENVIRONMENT]
    Product version - BI4.1 SP03
    OS - Windows 2008 R2
    CMS Database - Oracle 11g
    Java Application Server - Tomcat7
    [ISSUE]
Using the Upgrade Management Tool to completely migrate a BOXI3.1 SP3+FP3.6 to BI4.1 SP03.  The reporting database from both BOXI3.1 and BI4.1 are the same and so is the database logon credential.
When viewing and refresh a migrated Crystal Report, it throws "The viewer could not process an event. The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect. [] ---- Error code:0 [CRWEB00000119]" error in both BI Launchpad and "The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect" in scheduled job.
    [STEPS TAKEN]
    - Update the Database Configuration with the SAME Oracle database password in CMC and "The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect" issue goes away.
I search the SAP SMP and SCN forum and found no reference on this UMT and Crystal Report database logon problem.  Hope any of you have seen this problem and share if there is an ADAPT for it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Jin-Chong

    Hi,
The BI4.1 SP03 server and client and Crystal Report 2013 SP03 developer and Crystal Report for Enterprise 4.1 SP03 are all installed onto this Windows 2008 R2 server.
I am able to open the migrated report from CMS repository in Crystal Report 2013 SP03 developer and am able to refresh it with database logon password provided.  After save it back to the Enterprise, the database logon password field for this report in CMC becomes empty so that I have to enter the database password and choose "Use same database logon as when report is run" when viewing and scheduling report.
What is interesting to me is that the UMT seems to migrate the report along the database logon password because I can see the encrypted password in the report database logon property in CMC.  The workaround is to reenter the database logon password in the report database logon property in CMC.
With this said, there are hundreds of the Crystal reports and the workaround would consume lots of manual work by update each report's database logon password in CMC.
For other customers who have more crystal reports, I wonder if there is an automated way to update the crystal report's database logon password on BI4.1 or if this is an isolated incident on my new BI4.1 SP03 environment.
I run UMT in command line to perform livetolive migration, and my steps are listed below
    cd "E:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\java\apps\upgradeManagementTool\jars\"
    "E:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\sapjvm\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx56g -Djava.library.path="..\..\..\..\win64_x64" -jar upgrademanagementtool.jar -internal_use_only_noversioncheck -responsefile LIVETOLIVEResponseFile.txt

  • Distribute Crystal Report from BOE Server

    Hi,
    =========
    Installation on Client machine:
    Crystal Report 2008 V1 SP1 and SP2
SAP Integration Kits XI 3.1 SP2
    Installation on BOE Server:
    BOE XI 3.1 SP2
SAP Integration Kits XI 3.1 SP2
    Installation on BW:
    SAP BW 7
    ========
Created crystal report on top of SAP BW Query, and save/publish the Crystal Report into BOE Server directly via Crystal Report ->File ->Save as (I understand that we can also save the Crystal Report into BW role, then publish the Crystal Report into BOE Server via the BW Publish, but we're not using the BW Publish option here).
Now user can logon to BOE InfoView and execute/display the Crystal Report, no problem.
My question is in BOE Server, is there any functionality that allow us to execute the Crystal Report and send it to the user automatically via email? Just like the BEx Broadcaster functionality in SAP BW 7.
If yes, how can I do it?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Seb,
I have a look at the document: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_bip_admin_en.pdf
I can see where to schedule the Crystal Reprot to run in the background and send out via email option.
However, I dont see how the report can be sent out from BOE server. Is there any setting need to be done so that BOE Server can send out the crystal report?
    Please help, thank you.

  • Look and feel discrepency after migrating Crystal Reports from XIR2 to XIR3

    Hi,
We are migrating Crystal Reports from XIR2 to XIR3. If the report is designed in Crystal client by inserting a subreport it does not come well in web viewer(Infoview). If I do not use subreports then the view is same (both in web viewer & windows client preview).
Could you please let me know, what could be the problem and how to resolve this?
Your valuable time and solution is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
What happen if you use the web java viewer instead of web viewer? (you can change it in the preferences options)
Otherwise, when you say "it does not come well", what do you mean?
    Thanks

It's urgent. Your valuable time and solution is much appreciated.

I moved your thread to the " .NET - SAP Crystal Reports" forum, assuming this is in a .NET app(?)
    Unfortunately, the description:
" does not come well in web viewer"
is somewhat "loose". Perhaps inserting a link to a screenshot(s) that demo the issue will be a good idea?
Also, if my assumption is correct:
    1) What version of .NET?
    2) What is the exact version of CR? (In CR designer go to Help | About)
    3) What browser?
    4) Does this work on you dev system?

CR XI R2 Service Pack 6 and Fix Pack 6.4 should work on Windows 2008. CR 2008 SP 2 and above also. Older version, no support for it.
CR is 32 bit, make sure the 32 bit client is installed and being used.

  • Migrating Crystal Reports Server XI to a new Server

Hi,I am trying to migrate an existing Crystal Reports installation from an old server to a new server.  To prevent interruption of service, the new server must be able to be online at the same time as the old server (thus it must have a different name).  I installed Crystal Reports Server XI and told it to create its CMS database by copying the existing CMS database.  Unfortunately, I received an unspecified error ("failed to received first object from source database").  After that, I opted to create a new, default CMS database.  I tried using the import wizard to migrate the reports to the new server.  The import wizard managed to bring over all of the folders, users, and groups, but not any of the reports.  When I looked at the migration log, it gave me an error stating that it could not find the parent folder.  I have no real idea how to address this issue.  On a related note, I also do not know how to point crystal at the reports repository on the new server.  I tried using the Data Source Migration wizard to copy the reports from the old server to the new server.  Unfortunately, it didn't appear to register any of the new reports.  Given what I have already tried, I am not sure how to proceed.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,David

  • SAP Crystal report on Windows Server 2012

    Hi,
Let me explain my situation first.
I have Windows7 dev box with VS 2010, 2012 and 2013. My application backend is Oracle 10g.
I have an old application build in VS 2005 which I migrated to Framework 4.0 from 2.0.
I downloaded CR executable from "http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_13_0_9.exe" and it worked fine locally.
But when I deployed the same code on Windows Server 2012.. reports didn't appear.
    Please assist.

Well, let's get the easy one out of the way 1st
Licensing of the runtime. The runtime is free for win apps. For web apps it is also free - as long as the app is used within your organization. If the web app is used external to your org, you do need to obtain additional licensing. And for that you will have to contact sales: 866-681-3435
    Now, the actual issue:
Normally, the runtime is deployed using the MSI, MSM or CLickOnce, Nothing wrong with you installing VS on the server and then CR, but I suspect you're using up a VS license for that (expensive(?)), but that is a decision for you to make. E.g.; uninstalling VS and running the CR SP 9 MSI should suffice. To actually get the viewer working, I'd like you configure the viewer as per the direction in this blog:

  • Migrate Crystal Reports version 9 to Crystal Reports version 12

I have gone through some of the threads in this forum related to migration of Crystal reports from a previous version to CR 12.
Though it has helped me to a certain extent, the problem still isnt solved.
First, I have not worked with Crystal Reports earlier; this is my first attempt.
Second, I have an application which uses CR version 9 to convert to pdf.
The application is written in VS 2003. The application is hosted under Windows Server 2008 R2; Crystal Reports 12 runtime installed on the Server.
I have downloaded the VSIM for VS 2003. The reference dlls seem to have been upgraded to CR 12. However, when I run the application in the Server, I get the famous
"Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.
Please install the appropriate Crystal Reports redistributable (CRRedist*.msi) containing the correct version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium) required.  Please go to http://www.businessobjects.com/support for more information."
    error.
Oh, Just for the Info - this application works perfectly fine in my development environment under the Windows XP OS.
Would somebody out there please help me in resolving this issue?
I have spent a lot of time on this issue, doing research on my own and failing miserably.

Download [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip] and compare what dlls are loading on the server as opposed to your dev computer. Then adjust as needed.

  • Migrating crystal reports XI to crystal reports 2008

    Hi,
Currently we are using crystal Reports XI for our reporting.
Planning to migrate to Crystal Reports 2008.
Do we need to change all reports ,which are developed in Cr Rep XI.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Ravi

The source of the problem is the "re-import when opening" option on the sub-report - if I remove the tick, the report is saved to the repository and the program does not crash. Is this a known issue, or is there some restriction in 2008 which did not exist in XI that I am not aware of. I did download Crystal reports 2008 SP2 but I have not installed as the notes say it is not compatable with Server 2008 SP1.
I have the follow versions installed...
    Crystal Reports 2008: 12.1.0.892
    Crystal Server 2008: 12.1.0
CMS database is on SQL Server 10.0.2531

  • Crystal Reports 10 Enterprise Server Issue - Exporting Large Reports to PDF

Weu2019re implementing a Crystal Reports 10 Server for a customer but weu2019re having an issue with exporting large reports to PDF.  The report size that starts to show this issue is roughly 300 pages with 20 records per page.  We use the default Crystal ActiveX viewer.
Basically what happens is that the user will launch the report in the ActiveX viewer and the large report will take a while to load, as much as 3 to 4 minutes.  The user may then wish to export to PDF.  Once they attempt it with these large reports the viewer will basically hang and possibly be processing but will then time-out after roughly 5 minutes with this error:
    u201CProxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /thinqreports/THINQCrystalInterface.asp.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
    IBM_HTTP_Server/6.1.0.9 Apache/2.0.47 (Unix) Server at lmsproxy.aurora.org Port 443u201D
We believe this error is coming from a server on our network.  We have a proxy server between users and the Crystal Server that has a 5 minute time-out for connections.  What we want to know is:
    - Is there a way to speed up this export to PDF process?
    - Should the Crystal Viewer be keeping an http connection alive to the Crystal Report Server while its doing this export process?
    - If not, what port does Crystal Viewer use to communicate with the Crystal Report Server?
    - Is there something we can set in Crystal to keep an http connection open?
    - What is actually occurring during this export process?
Occasionally, we may get the above error when simply launching a report, not just attempting to export to PDF.  We presume that is because loading the report into the Crystal Viewer from the Crystal Report Server is taking longer than 5 min.
    Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.
    Scott

    Scott,
As this is happening within Enteprise (and I am assuming the report does not time out in the Crystal Reports Designer) I would suggest posting this to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration
    forum.
My limited Enterprise knowledge would be to suggest scheduling the report as PDF but I don't know if that is a viable option for you.

When in a runtime, there's no dialog box as above. My report display the data as expected. really cool
Look's like, when report using SQL Server Authentication there's some problem. but, when report using Windows Authentication, it's fine.
I'm looking for comment. Please help me

    Hello,
MS SQL Server 2008 requires you to install the MS Client Tools for 2008.
Once install then update all of your reports to use the SQL Native 10 as the OLE DB driver.
The try again, if it still fails search, lots of sample log on code in this forum.

The Platforms file was on the CR CD or it may be in the Documents folder on install. I don't have it installed any more so I can't say exactly where it is. Search your PC for platforms.
The problem is SQL 2008 uses a new Client engine and MS renamed the DLL do CR isn't aware of it. Using the MDAC version of SQL Server OLE DB Provider may work but it won't be supported if you find errors.
If you do upgrade to CR 2008 then install the MS SQL Server 2008 Client Tools from the CD or download the MSI from Microsoft and then use the MS SQL Server Native 10 client and it should all work for you.
    Thank you
