Migrating Crystal version 9.2 to Business Objects

Is there a target version of BO where I can simply make use of my existing Crystal reports.

Hey Alan,
You can migrate your Cr 9.2 version reports to Crystal XI R2 version.
But it is individual product /seperate installation as crystal designer not included in Business Objects installation.
You can run reports and upgrade to latest version CR 2008.

Difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2

Can anyone please help me know the difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2? Both the support guides says that it supports Office 2007. I have a problem in exporting the reports to Excel 2007 .I have downloaded the trial version of Crystal Reports Server 2008 but still unable to view my complete reports in Excel 2007 through infoview because few of my report's colums are truncated and it still exports in Excel 2003.I have LiveOfficeXIR2_SP4 and Office 2007 installed. Is it so that i have to switch over to Business Objects XI R2 or any other to solve my problem instead of using Crystal Reports Server 2008 or is it the problem with the version of my Live office.Pls help me regarding this..

Crystal Reports 2008 - saving to Business Objects Edge

Hi,
When trying to Open or Save a report in Crystal Reports 2008 to the Business Objects Edge server, the following message is received:
Access denied. You cannot log on to an older version of the CMS.
Does anyone know when or if these two versions will be updated to support each other?

Hi Jeffrey,
The problem when ever you see that error is due to the versions mismatch. The is due to a call into one the updated or older versions of the dll that doesn't exist where it is expected.
They MUST be the same version number.
Options are to bring BOE up to SP3 and FP 3.1 also or roll back CR to SP 2 and Fix Pack 2.7.

Comparison between Crystal Report Server XI R1, Crystal Report Server XI R1 , Business objects Enterpirse XI R1 and BOXI R2?

I am new to Business Objects Enterprise. I need to know what is differnce between Crystal Report Server XI R1and Crystal Report Server XI R1 ; Business objects Enterpirse XI R1 and BOXI R2?
As a beginner, it will be very much helpful for me to learn in a better way and to go in the right track.

I will start off with the basic difference beteen Crystal Report Server and Business Objects Enterprise. We can continue on after this initial bit of information.
Essentially, Crystal Report Server is a much like a subset of the full Enterprise Product line. Whereas CRS is used for storing and scheduling Crystal Reports, the Enterprise product extends this usability to also include Desktop Intelligence Reports as well as Web Intelligence reports. There are also added features available with the full Enterprise Suite (depending on the licensing and installation) that also provide Performance Management, Dashboards and other enhancements.
In the sence of XI vs XIR2, XIR2 is more up to date with fixes and service packs. You will find the original XI products to be closer to an end of lifecycle when it comes to support.
As well, the newest release not mentioned in your line of questioning is Business Objects XI3.0. Currently this is a java based deployment, but there will be a .NET version forthcoming. Many new features have been added and you can find more information directly at www.businessobjects.com pages. There is a full section on the website that outlines the various products.

Crystal reports being scheduled on Business Objects XI 3.1 failing

I am in the middle of a migration from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects XI 3.1. I am getting report failures for scheduled events. The error is "Object could not be scheduled within the specified time interval". Does anyone have any idea what this is? Some of the reports run fine for this instance and then others get this message. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

This error message appears when there are a large number of reports scheduled to run at the same time, but there is a short end time for the instance. As a result, BusinessObjects Enterprise may not be able to run all the report before the end time passes.
To resolve this error message, increase the end time on the scheduled instance. To increase the end time, use the following steps:
1. In the Infoview, browse to the desired report and click 'History'.
2. Find the desired scheduled instance and click 'Reschedule'.
3. Under the 'When' section, increase the end time for the scheduled instance.
Upon completing these steps, the error message no longer appears.

Migrate from Crystal Report XI R2 to Business Objects XI R2

Hello friends,
As per end of licence life cycle for Crystal report, we need to migrate our 30 crystal reports to BO xi r2.
First thing i need to ask is that ...is this possible to migrate from Crystal report XI R2 to BO xi R2 ?
If yes than where i can find migration guide..i tried import wizard but its not showing crystal reports in list.
please help..

Ok. We used the same Administrator user.
It seems first we need to move report to Report Samples than only it shows in list.
If we keep *.rpt under user folders its not being imported.
Import is possible this way only. Now we need to call the report from java.
Which API should we use to print this crystal report migrated to BO?

Business Objects Enterprise vs Crystal Reports Server for Central Reporting

A question for all the Architects and Administrators out thereu2026
I have a vision of centrally managing operational reporting (reporting directly against applications and/or ODS databases). The main reasons:
- Management of Security
- Management of Report Inventory
- More efficient use of server resources and capacity (clustering/sharable)
This will be Crystal Reports only.
Is Business Objects Enterprise a feasible solution for this or is a series of Crystal Reports Servers?
My understanding is that the server version does not cluster or scale and a series of them operates independently from each other. Is there a concern of the over-kill or magnitude of Business Objects Enterprise for just Crystal Reports?
What are everyoneu2019s thoughts?

Hi Ryan,
It really depends what meets your business needs. If you require to scale and expand your BOE XI environment then BOE is what you'll need. BOE will allow you to have clustered CMS' and have multiple processing servers that reside on remote servers.
If your deployment does not require a lot resource and one server can handle the amount of reporting requests and logons, then CR Server would be the better choice. You are correct, CR Server is not scalable and is a single server install only. You cannot expand or add additional BOE servers on remote servers if you use CR Server.

If you want to centralize this, a series of CR Servers will not work as each installation will be its entity.

Versioning of business objects

When using the Action Box from the CRM Customer Interaction Center to execute transactions in R3 we have found ourselves in a risky situation. When modifications are made to the business objects to for data transfer between systems via transaction SWO1, there is no apparent version management. This poses two questions:
1. Is there some form of version management for these business objects somewhere in the sysem?
2. If no versioning exists for the business objects, is the another method of communication data between the systems via CIC action box calls that leverages version management.

Is Business Object Enterprise needed ?

I am in a process of preparing a demo about crystal report , I just want to make some Crystal Reports from on top of R/3 sources and BW queries, I do not want to share reports
I have installed trail Crystal Report 208 V1 and Business Object XI Integration Kit 3.1. now do I need the Enterprise to be installed in order for me to create these reports ?
if yes, where can I find the trail version of enterprise ?

The latest version of Business Objects Enterprise is XI Release 3.1 Service Pack 2. There have been several fixpacks delivered on top of this as well.
Crystal Reports and XCelsius are tools to build Reports and Dashboards respectively. While XCelsius is suited for creating sleek dashboards with very aggregated data - usually less than 2000 rows per report, Crystal Reports can be used for reporting off data warehouses requiring reporting off large data sets.
Informatica Powercenter is a tool proivded by an independant vendor and is not a Business Objects Product. Business Objects Provides Data Integrator, which is pretty much as rugged as Informatica and provides all the functionalities of ETL(Extraction Transformation and Loading).

Defining Business Objects in ES-Builder

Hi,
I tried to create a business object definition with the Enterprise Service Builder (CE 7.1 with local SLD; Selected ES-Builder Profile: "unrestricted").
I selected "create object" -> "Interface Objects" -> "Business Object". But the "Business Object"-Option is deactivated and I get the followoing warning:
Software component version does not support this object type
"Agent" and "Process-Component" are not selectable too.
I configured the Software Component in SLD and imported it to the ES-Builder. How do I have to configure my software component (version) to create a business object-definition?

At the moment I am evaluating the usage of the ESR. There are 3 Steps I want to perform:
First I want to model my environment. That step I have done by modelling my process-components with service-interfaces, operations, and a business-object for each process-component.
Secondly I created specifications in ESR for my service-interfaces and operations and connected them to the corresponding model objects.
Thirdly I imported the specifications from ESR into my NWDS to implement them.
Since I can connect my service-interface-specification in ESR to the corresponding service-interface in my model, I question myself why can't I do the same thing with business-objects (specify them and connect them to the model object)? Doesn't it make any sense? You wrote that specifying business-objects is not available for external use. Is there a specific reason? Also, it would be nice to import a business object-specification from ESR into NWDS. Unlike "service-interface model"->"service-interface specification"->"service-interface implementation" are connected together from model to implementation, there is a gap between "business-object model" and "business object implementation".

Publishing Business Objects Reports in Portal

1. In BO we have different reports like, web intelligence, crystal, deski reports. By default sap provided two iviews
        A) Business Objects Enterprise Integration Kit - IView Template
        B) Crystal Enterprise Report
By using Business Objects Enterprise Integration Kit - IView Template I am able to call all the reports (by using report id).but for this i need to create iviews manually.what is the best practise to publish BO reports in portal.

For all discussions arround SAP Business One and the new Add-On Crystal Reports we have at the moment one [Thread|SAP Business One and Crystal Reports; with very high contribution.
So we would like to ask you, if a new Forum is needed and if yes where to put it (beneath the SAP Business One Forums or the Business Objects Forums)?

Having experience both SAP Business One and Business Objects, I would suggest that all reporting aspects of Crystal Reports should stay in Business Objects Forum.
I would still agree to create a sub-forum for Crystal Reports in SAP Business One, as long as the topics are more of the integration of Crystal Reports with SAP B1.

CRS is limited to single server installs, it has less functionality such as no auditing. Enterprise can be clustered across many servers, has auditing and webi/deski from E6. So which one is best would depend on the size of your planned implementation and the features that you want.
