Migrating Data From G5 iMac running 10.4.11 to Leopard problems

When I try to migrate the information on my G5 iMac (which is running 10.4.11) to my brand new MacBook Pro using a new firewire cord it tells me that "There is no OS X operating system on your old Mac".
I tried to migrate using ethernet but the migration assistant on my iMac does not have the "Migrate To" option nor does it have the ethernet option.
I have used synch to synch up to my .Mac account and somethings transfered over but is there another way to move the rest of the data (address book, keychains, music, photos, etc.)?

Put them in your .Mac storage and than transfer them over, this is the best way.

I have had an iMac G5 PPC for about 6 years. The logic board just died about 2 weeks ago.
I am about to purchase a new 27" iMac Quad-core i7 machine, and I am wondering what is the best way to migrate data from the old machine to the new one.
I have a few different questions...
I use SuperDuper! to backup, so I do have a full copy of my hard drive on an external drive. But the data is about 2 weeks older than the hard drive on my G5 (meaning, I backed up about 2 weeks before the machine died, so there is data on there that I'd love to retrieve). I understand that I can pull the hard drive out of the iMac G5 and buy a cable to attach it to the new machine. I also understand that I can attach my external drive (with the SuperDuper! copy of my hard drive) to the new iMac, too, and run Migration Assistant (or Set Up Assistant) to transfer data.
However, I have heard that it is not good to do a straight migration from a Power PC to an Intel machine.
Is that true?
I would ideally like to transfer all my email (tens of thousands of them), my iPhoto library, my iTunes library, iCal, many many documents, and some other random stuff.
What do you recommend?
Should I do an automatic migration using Set Up Assistant and my external hard drive with the SuperDuper copy?
Should I (and can I?) do an automatic migration with the hard drive that I pull from the old machine?
Or should I (can I?) do a manual migration whereby I only copy the folders/files/libraries that I really want, and avoid clogging up the new machine with PowerPC apps, etc., that the new (Intel) iMac might not like?
This last one seems like the ideal choice, but I am not sure...and I don't know exactly how to go about that process.
Apologies for the long post, and many thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

automatic migration works well for most people but problems are possible both because of architecture and system differences.

you can try automatic migration first. if you are worried about possible problems you can choose to migrate user data only but no applications. this should reduce the likelihood of conflicts. but if you run into problems you can always erase and install and do manual migration. since you have a superduper backup this option is not going away and is always available.

Migrating date from old iMac to G5 iMac

I need to migrate a friend's WordPerfect files and Netscape email files from an older blue iMac on OS 9 to a G5 iMac on OS 10.3. I have read the relevant Knowledge Base items. I plan to connect the two computers with a ethernet cable to form a simple network. Having done so, should I use file-sharing to transfer the data, or is there a preferred alternative?
Having transferred the files, I plan to download the WP application, and import the Netscape emails into Mail. Does this make sense?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Boot up to the Leopard install Disk and instead of going through the install sequence at the top click the Utilities drop down menu and select Disk Utility. Click on the drive in the left hand column and under the First Aide tab click Repair Disk. Let us know how that works and we will go from there.
Most likely because your old computer has Leopard it would not Migrate to an older 10.4 OS. If you get it fixed you could go through the setup assistant without migrating anything, upgrade the new computer to Leopard then run the Migration assistant from your Utilities folder.

Trackpad do not work properly after migration data from old imac to new macbook pro

After migration all my Data from my old imac to my new macbook pro (both running on OS Maverick) with migration assistant, the trackpad of the new macbook pro doesn´t work properly any more.
But the trackpad had worked properly before the data migration!
But now the trackpad feature of scrolling up and down with two fingers doesn´t work. (Other features are ok.)
I have tried to change the trackpad settings, but still doesn´t work.
Can anyone help me???

You are still under warranty. Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.

I need to migrate data from Lion to OSX do you know of any problems with content between the two systems?

I'm using a MacBook AIR and OSX 10.9.1. When I upgraded that I made a mistake with the user name and so created another user. Now I understand I need to migrate the data between the two systems but that there might be trouble with some of the content files transferring across? Has anyone done this before? Very long search times from an IMac running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard when searching for files on a windows 2003 server

The issue is as follows:
The Imac is connected to the windows 2003 server via SMB type connection.
There are four sub folders in the main directory. We go to one of the sub folders in this case Server.
We go to search window and type the file name that we want to search such as test .
The choices selected for search parameters are Server for location and contains (same results if picked by file name)
Search takes roughly 6 minutes before it returns the result.
If we do the same search on the old Mac Server it will take 15 seconds to complete using same search parameters.
Any ideas on how to speed up search times to the Windows 2003 Server? I have tried going to finder preferences and removing the sharing section. That did not help.

Okay, I've....
1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
3) Shutdown the database
4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
6) Shutdown the database again
7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....

I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:

Migrate data from imac to macbook pro

I want to migrate data from an imac over to a macbook pro. The macbook pro already has data on it which i want to keep on it. I want to make a new user on the macbook pro called "imac" and this user will have all the imacs data stored on it. How can I transfer all this data across and how can i put it into a new user?
Both computers are running OSX Mavericks.

Thunderbolt is even better than Firewire.
Migration Assistant will not overwrite any existing data or existing user account. It will only create a new account and transfer into the new account.
If you wish to move data from your other computer into an existing user account on the target computer, then you don't want to use Migration Assistant. You would use another type of tool such as a standard backup utility or file/folder synchronization tool. I would suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner. Bear in mind that for this to work correctly the usernames of both the source and target accounts should be the same lest you run into permissions problems after the transfers.
CCC will let you specify only what you want to transfer or let you clone an entire volume.

Migrating data from imac to macbook pro

Hi, need help! Just bought a Macbook Pro. Started it up along with my iMac (running Snow Leopard, upgraded to 10.6.8 including the additional download to assist in migration). Followed the directions on the Macbook for migration of data from my imac and whilst the Macbook can find the iMac the iMac still cannot find the Macbook . . . . . . .. Arrrggghh! I thought migration was supposed to be easy!!!!
Please help if you can . . . . . laymans terms for a ludite would be appreciated. Cheers

I understand that, but presumably to migrate data, both computers have to be able to 'see' each other . . . . the MBP gets to a point in Migration Assistant where it asks me to check that a number that it gives me can be seen on the iMac before it can continue (as the iMac can't find the Macbook I can't go any further). If I click 'continue' anyway on the MBP it just tells me that the other Mac is not responding and to make sure they are connected to the same network etc. . . .
I have tried using just the wireless connection and when that didn't work I read on the knowledge board that I should try connecting both machines via an Ethernet cable still no joy. .

Just reinstalled software and migrated data from Time Machine, now iMac does not recognize printer or camera

Under the direction of Apple Support, I recently erased my iMac (Intel) hard drive, reinstalled and updated software and migrated data from an external hard drive via Time Machine.
Now, after clicking on "PRINT", the print dialog box says "printing" then says "no pages found", and finally says "stopped"; and when I plug in my camera to download photos, the camera is not recognized. Both printer and camera are connected via USB.
I checked connections, verified printing and iPhoto preferences, turned printer off then on again, unplugged and replugged USB connections, and checked and followed directions in the Help menu.

Firewire to migrate data from MacBook Pro to imac?

Would someone guide me as to what kind of firewire I need to buy to migrate data from my MacBook Pro (which is two years old, OS X 10.6.8) to an iMac (which is brand new, but also two years old, it's the older model with a 20" screen). I've never even heard of firewire until I turned on the iMac for the first time, so would be very appreciative of guidance. Thanks!

I'm trying to migrate data from an old Powerbook G4 to a Macbook running 10.8 - new laptop can't find the target disk

Can anyone help me get a new(er) Macbook that's running Mountain Lion migrate data from an old PowerBook G4 running 10.4.x?
I've restarted the G4 holding down "T" and have the Firewire icon floating around its screen, started Migration Assistant on the Macbook, telling it to get data from a Time Machine back up or other disk, have Firewire cable connected to both laptops, continue and the Macbook is just endlessly "Looking for Other Computers"....
Any ideas?

Additionally, When I have the two laptops connected via Firewire, I do see the disk from which I'm trying to migrate data and can copy files, etc.

How to only migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11?

According to our requirement, We need to only migrate data from a SQL Server database to an existed
Oracle database user.
1) I tried to do it with SQL Developer 3.0.04 Migration Wizard, But find an issue.
My SQL Server database name is SCDS41P2, and my Oracle database user name is CDS41P2;
When I used SQL Developer to do offline move data by Migration Wizard, I found all oracle user
name in movedata files which gotten by run Migration Wizard
is dbo_SCDS41P2. If the Oracle user name is not the same as my existed Oracle user name,
the data can't be moved to my existed Oracle user when I run oracle_ctl.bat in command line window.
So I had to modify the Oracle user name in all movedata files, but it's difficult to modify them because there are many tables in
databases. So could you please tell me how to get the movedata files which the oracle user name in them is my
expected Oracle user name?
2) I also tried to use the 'copy to Oracle' function to copy the SQL Server database tables data
to the existed Oracle database user. When clicked 'copy to Oracle', I selected 'Include Data' and 'Replace' option
But I found some tables can't be copied, the error info is as below:
Table SPSSCMOR_CONTROLTABLE Failed. Message: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
Could you please tell me how to deal with this kind of error?

Put the G4 into Target Disk Mode and open Migration Assistant on the new MBP. Your G4 needs to be running 10.5.8.
