How to use Golden Gate for ETL purpose
Hi Oracle Gurus, i have a situation where i am thinking to replace our oracle PL/SQL package with Golden Gate to process our ETL.
I mean we use PL/SQL package, which has several procedures and functions in it and we process our application data using this package to transform that data for our downstream clients.
I was just wondering how we can achieve this using golden gate? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot :)Hi Annamalai
We have a ETL login in our local database, and ETL processed data is pulled by our down stream clients, We are seeing that current ETL is not capable enough to execute such a huge load. So we wanted to port our raw data to secondary database and run ETL login on secondary database and to parallelize it accordingly.
I was just thinking, can we use ETL logic inside OGG parameters, so we can load transformed data to secondary database. So no need of running ETL in secondry database. May be i sound little foolish, but just a thought.
Thanks

Migration Strategy Using The Golden Gate
Hi All,
I am a DBA and new to the Golden Gate area. We are planning to migrate the one of our database (24/7 availability).
source
RDBMS Version: 9.2.0.5
Os: HP-UX
Size: 2TB
TARGET
RDBMS Vesrsion: 9.2.0.5
OS: Linux (x86)
What is the best approach to migrate the data using golden gate ? Which method of initial load will be preffered ?
I appreciate if some one shared their experiences (preffered method/time lines).
-ThanksYou would pay to license GoldenGate, but are using a desupported release of Oracle? If you are on support, simply upgrade to 10g and use transportable tablespaces. That's a no-brainer. Or, for whatever reason you cannot upgrade to 10g, use multiple streams of export/import. Or, use Streams. At face value, your combination of Oracle and wanting to use GoldenGate sounds like you aren't paying for either one.Yes, we are aware of 9i database support but we didn't get a chance to upgrade for all good reasons(old vendor app doen't support anything but 9i untill now. But we are going to
migrate the database to new platform(linux) and to 10g (as vendor certified th 10g but not 11g ). -

Golden gate in a RAC 10.2 environment
Hello,
The plan is to use Golden gate to migrate data from a RAC database 10.2.0.4 on HP-UX IA to a RAC database 10.2.0.4 on Linux 64-bit.
My question is if Golden gate needs to be installed on all nodes in the source database cluster (HP-UX IA) in order to access the redo files, or whether it is sufficient to install the GG software on one node only? The answer is relevant for the licensing; do all nodes in the cluster need to be licensed for GG, or only one.
Thank you in advance

Hi all,
I have created something similar to CDC using Golden Gate, with all the changes in the source table inserted into a target table with operation marker @GETENV("GGHEADER","OPTYPE")
It is all good up to this point.
Now, I need to know which particular column(s) has changed and store this information and I cannot find any way of achieving it.
I need some sort of change marker, something similar to TARGET_COLMAP$ in CDC.
Is it possible in Golden Gate to figure out what column has changed?
Cheers! Please, move this question into the Database general forum. CDC had nothing to do with Database Migration Assistant for Unicode.

Golden gate supports directory??
Hello ,
I am new to golden gate.
i have made 1 oracle directory in oracle 11 g. when i am replicating data using golden gate, then i am getting the error-->directory doesnot exists
-->Fatal Error executing ddl replication
Do golden gate supports directory or not.. ?
Thanks and regards
Attinder Pal SinghDirectory in what context? The are directories within the GG installation, and Oracle has directories - which are database objects that point to a directory on the file system and has nothing whatsoever to do with GG. You may happen to have the OS directory be used for GG and the same directory used by Oracle, but that means nothing in terms of them working together.
You have an error stack, so post what it is instead of leaving people to guess which directory is missing or does not exist. Was your DDL setup successful? What is the output of the check script? -

Hi,
We are planing to replciate the data using Golden Gate for that we need help in understanding the licensing model of Golden gate.
Licensing model required for below setup
1 Production server with 2*6 cpus and standby having 1*6 cpus. target server 1*6 CPU . Planing install GG in standby server
My questions are:
1) Should I buy License for production DB or it enough if i get the license for the standby ( Where we going to implement GG )
GG License =PROD DB +TARGET DB
OR
GG License = STANDBY DB + TARGET DB
2) Is there any model .Please let us know.
Regards
Murali.Murali,
As a general rule, you license both the source system (where the source database resides) and the target system (where the target database resides). But for all licensing questions, you need to work with your Oracle Sales rep for GoldenGate. Do you know who that is - do you need help determining who to contact to help you with your question?

Hi,
One of customer is trying golden gate and is typically looking at this usecase :
"Is it possible to join two or more tables in source database and replicate the data to insert into one table in the destination database using Golden gate?"
I am new to golden gate and would be helpful if somebody could help me on how to achieve this.
It would be great if somebody could point me to some doc with an example piece of code on how to go about such usecases.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks and Regards,
AnoopYou can have, and with many tables, should have multiple process groups. GoldenGate supports up to 300 processes per instance. Each process takes around 30-50MB, the more complex the processing or operation, the more memory. Because of supplemental logging, you will see more archived redo logs, and there is slight overhead on both the database and server, but not significant.
This information is covered in the install guide for your platform and in the admin guide.

Sequence Error During Golden Gate Replication! Need Hints
Dear All,
I am replicating 2 databases one way, from production to standby using golden gate.
Both databases are 11gR2 and on Linux.
Replication runs smooth for couple of days and then ends up with this error:
ERROR OGG-01296 Error mapping from ETISLBILLING.PAR_TBLPARNODEIDENTI to ETISLBILLING.PAR_TBLPARNODEIDENTI.
Parent Ket Not Found ETISLBILLING.FK_PARTNERNODE_IDENT
Trigger : ETISLBILLING.TRG_PAR_TBLPARTNERNODE Sequence : SEQ_PAR_TblPartnerIdenti
ORA-20000: Sequence value cannot be changed.
Main error is that value of sequence that is executed during the after insert trigger, does not change and trigger raise error hence the replication process is stopped.
I am just worried that the same triggers and sequences are executed successfully on production database and standby database has is exactly the same as production.
Is there some special treatment for sequences?
Kindly share your experience and give tips to handle this situation
Regards, ImranHi,
Hope this helps

FROM MOS: OGG Replicat Encounters OGG-01396 OGG-00869 ORA-01400 on Primary Key Column [ID 1308824.1]
Cause
==================
from the replicat report, first this error occurs:
WARNING OGG-01396 A complete after image is not available
in <schema.table> at rba 123456 in file ./dirdat/yyy, while inserting
a row into <schema.table> due to missing target row for a key update operation.
NOCOMPRESSUPDATES or FETCHOPTIONS FETCHPKUPDATECOLS may be specified in the
EXTRACT parameter file to include a complete image for key update operations.
The offending record is a primary key update, ... probably the key
<to be found at the mentioned rba 123456 in file ./dirdat/yyy> is not available on target
if the PK is not available at target side, then this error is expected, because HANDLECOLLISIONS turns the PK update into an insert as result of no target record to update.
The problem is that the source PK update record doesn't contain all the after image columns. That is also expected because the update record is intended to only update the affected columns.
As a workaround use FETCHOPTIONS FETCHPKUPDATECOLS on the capture/extract side to get all the after images of the record so that when a HANDLECOLLISIONS logic kicks in, it will be
able to successfully convert the original PK update into insert with all the after image present.
Solution
==================
First check the affected trail file yyy at RBA 123456 with logdump to verify, if the PK update does not have the complete key information as described.
If that is the case and the target table does not have the corresponding PK entry, this issue is hit. Otherwise it is something different.
As a workaround use
==================
FETCHOPTIONS FETCHPKUPDATECOLS on the capture/extract side to get all the after images of
the record so that when a HANDLECOLLISIONS logic kicks in, it will be
able to successfully convert the original PK update into insert with all the after image present. -
