Migrating emails from G3 to iMac G5

Hi,
Does anyboby now if it's possible to import emails from outlook (from a mac running mac os 9.6) to a G5 iMac running mac os X v.10.4 ?
Would it work if I simply open Mail on the iMac and select import mailboxes? (after I have copied all the folders from outlook in my G3 to the iMac)
Thanks

That would probably work, or you can export your mailboxes to the desktop and either burn them to a disc or carry them over with Migration Assistant. You can ask Mail to import Entourage mail, I'm not sure if it will also import Outlook. Please let us know how you make out,

I was wondering if UN installing then RE installing CS 6 might solve the problem. If this is recommended, I would need complete instructions on doing this. using migration assistant is problematic.
at this point yes, you should uninstall everything migrated, clean and then reinstall properly using the installation files.

  • I can't migrate files from my old imac to a new one.

I can't migrate files from my old imac to a new one. I'm using a firewire 800 to a thunderboldlt adapter, my new imac doesn't find the source. Would a usb 2 to usb 2 work?

Did you put your old iMac in Target Disk mode? You need to do this to use Migration Assistant to transfer your files to the new iMac.
Hold the T key while your old iMac is starting up to start up in Target Disk mode. After doing this, your new iMac will detect it as an external drive, so now you can transfer your files through Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872?viewlocale=en_US

  • Migrating emails from Symantec Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online

    Hi
I am in the process of planning a migration from on-premises Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online in Office 365. The on-premises Exchange environment is using Symantec Enterprise Vault v9 for archiving emails older than a certain number of months.
I am planning to use the cutover migration method to migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online. What is the best way to migrate email from Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online? Will the E-mail Migration Tool in Exchange Control Panel do the job or will a third
party tool need to be used?

You have a few options ...
a/ Export all the mail from each archive to a PST file, and then import that in to Exchange, or Office 365.
b/ Export all the mail from each archive back to the original mailbox.
c/ Use a third party tool, like Archive Shuttle from QUADROtech which can migrate directly to Office 365 from Enterprise Vault.
    Hope that helps,
There are other migration solutions out there as well from TransVault and NUIX.

  • Migrate email from old to new mac (outlook to entourage)

    Hello.
Anyone have any ideas on how to migrate email messages from an old imac (OS 9.2) to a new one (OS X). The old machine is running Outlook and the new one is Entourage. There are ways to save individuals messages as text and then move them over, but that is a lot of saving (one at a time). I don't see an export option in Outlook.
    Thanks for any advice.

When you booted up the new machine the first time, did you use the migration assistant? If not, you might want to try using the Restore disk and restore the Mac Pro to its factory state. Also, take a look at:

  • How do I move Outlook email from Windows to iMac

I have decided to move from Windows (Vista) to iMac (Mavericks) and need to move all my email from my Windows PC (Outlook 2010) to iMail.
I've found several suggestions on the internet including various software applications for converting from one to the other although most seem to indicate problems with lost emails.  Is there a recommended method from Apple which works?
    Any help appreciated.

  • Migrating data from a dead iMac

My 2006 iMac has died. The display does not work anymore.  I have a new mini on order and I have a couple of questions about migrating the data from the HDD on my old iMac to my mini.
I do Have a time machine backup on a separate drive.   I could not find anything that spoke about migrating to a new Mac from a time machine backup.
    my questions are.
can I migrate from my old iMac to my new mini using a time machine backup?
can I select what data I wish to migrate?
how can I deauthorize the old iMa?
    thanks

One of the first screens that will appear when you start up the new Mac will say "do you want to restore from another Mac or Time Machine backup?". Select that and follow the prompts. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe you can select what data is migrated (only what date you restore it from). Older system files will not be migrated (ie, your new Mac will have whatever OS it shipped with, not that of your old iMac).
if the old iMac powers up, you may still be able to migrate from it. Hold down T on its keyboard as you boot it up, and connect a FireWire cable (with Thunderbolt adaptor for the new iMac) across the two computers. You should be able to choose it as a migration source when you start up the new iMac; if you skip the migration at setup, you can try again using Migration ASsistant from the Utilities folder. Doing a migration instead of Time Machine recovery should give you a little more control over what gets migrated. Or you can skip automatic migration altogether if you want to select specific documents and files and do manual copying from one to the other (this won't work with applications).
Your last option would be to physically remove the Mac's hard drive and put it in an external enclosure (probably USB3 is cheapest) if you want to do a migration but can't power up the old iMac.
Unless you can connect an external monitor to the old imac to get it working, you might have to skip iTunes deauthorization until you have 5 computers authorized, at which time you can deauthorize them all from your iTunes account screen (and then re authorize the ones you're using).

  • Migrating emails from Thunderbird: small IMAP mailbox size

I recently got a MacBook Pro and now I want to move my emails from my former email client on a Windows XP PC, Thunderbird, to Mac Mail on the MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.2).
I created the appropriate email account in Mac Mail, this part works fine.
But the size of my IMAP is fairly small, and I used to move my old emails to the Thunderbird local message folders. How do I move everything to my Mac? This is straightforward for the emails that are still on the server, but how do I get both, the ones on the server, and the ones downloaded to Thunderbird to Mac Mail? Do I have to gradually move mails from the local Thunderbird folder to my account, and over to my Mac, and do the whole thing again and again, or is it safe to import the Thunderbird folder to Mac Mail? I would like to avoid double or lost messages.

you can set up thunderbird on the mac first and migrate there. then in Mail go to File menu->import mailboxes. it has an option to import from thunderbird. it might actually be possible to import directly from the copy of your windows thunderbird profile without setting up thunderbird on the mac first.

  • Migrate email from Entourage to Outlook

    Hi,
I sold my Macbook so I am getting a Dell but I need to tranfer my email from Entourage to Outllok.
I really need help. Thank you
    IBM   Windows XP Pro

BIS doesnt actually download email from your POP3 account, it will still exist on the server so just setup the POP3 account in outlook and download the email directly. If you still wish to keep the email on your blackberry ensure you tick the option "leave mail on server" in the account options in Outlook.

  • How do I migrate everything from one recent Imac to another, temporarily.

I have an Imac running Yosemite, with all sorts of programs (Microsoft for MAC, dropbox, filemaker) photoshop, anti virus etc etc) but it needs to go off for repairs (the stand is broken). Fortunately, as its in a business theres an un-used very recent IMac (it doesnt have an Apple ID that I know of so it doesnt look like the Yosemite upgrade is going to work, but it has all the latest software).
This computer was being used by someone else & has various programs on it (including someone elses emails I need to keep) but not photoshop & the same Microsoft suite. Id like to move all of my programs, emails (I use Exchange/Outlook) & everything else to it while mine gets fixed but dont want to over write whats on there & have to buy new licenses etc.
When mine gets returned Id like to move it all back again. Is this possible? If so how do I do it? We are on a network but Im not sure I can access that computer from mine on the network. It doesnt matter how long it takes as I will simply keep using mine until the migration is complete. Ive got ipads, iphone & a home mac with my music is on those I dont really have that kind of stuff on my work computer but I do have my apple ID associated with it.
I can buy cables or whatever, I just want whats easiest, & works best! I dont use icloud etc.

You would use Migration Assistant and use the Time Machine backup from the original machine. If you are not familiar with MA, please read Move your data to a new Mac - Apple Support

  • Migration Assistant - from non functioning imac to new imac?

My daughter's G5 imac has a bad graphics card (per apple store genius). Logic board is apparently OK but computer can't be used. She has decided to buy new a imac. Her concern is all of the data on her old imac's hard drive which she wants to transfer to the new imac. Normally, migration assitant would do this. However, as stated above, her old imac is not functioning in a normal way. My question: can she use migration assistant even though she can't do anything with her old imac except look at the garbled screen?
She also has an external hard drive that is supposedly up to date with backed up info.
    What are her options?

I read and printed "How to use and troubleshoot Firewire target disk mode". Thanks for that link.
The procedure in that article was for someone who wanted to transfer files between two computers. In my daughter's case the procedure is a little unclear. That is because, if I remember correctly, when you start up a new computer for the first time I'm not sure you see the desktop before the setup assistant starts. I guess one could connect the two computers and start up the new computer and a few seconds later start up the old computer and hold down the T key. That should put the hard drive of the target computer on the desktop of the host (new) computer. But when during the setup process would the setup assistant access the hard drive that would be appearing on the new computer's desktop?
When the setup process was finished, if the old computer's hard drive was not accessed you could then manually select what you wanted to copy. But for some info this can be a tedious process.
It has been a few years but I remember the process as being pretty much automatic starting with the setup assistant and having everything (personnel info, email, bookmarks, etc as well as files) transfered from my old to my new computer. I don't recall putting my old computer into Target Disk Mode to have everything transfered to my new computer. When you are going through the initial setup of a new computer, do you actually have to put the old computer into Target Disk Mode for the setup process to access your old info?
