Migrating emails from Symantec Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online

Hi
I am in the process of planning a migration from on-premises Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online in Office 365. The on-premises Exchange environment is using Symantec Enterprise Vault v9 for archiving emails older than a certain number of months.
I am planning to use the cutover migration method to migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online. What is the best way to migrate email from Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online? Will the E-mail Migration Tool in Exchange Control Panel do the job or will a third
party tool need to be used?

You have a few options ...
a/ Export all the mail from each archive to a PST file, and then import that in to Exchange, or Office 365.
b/ Export all the mail from each archive back to the original mailbox.
c/ Use a third party tool, like Archive Shuttle from QUADROtech which can migrate directly to Office 365 from Enterprise Vault.
Hope that helps,
There are other migration solutions out there as well from TransVault and NUIX.

  • Issue with opening .PDF files after recalling from Symantec Enterprise Vault

    Good Morning,
I am having issues with opening PDF files that have been recalled from Symantec Enterprise Vault and some of the files are anywhere from 3-4 years old.  Some files open, while others return the error: Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is not a supported file type or might have been damaged.  It is inconsistent as to which files it occurs with.  I am not ready to believe that I have that many corrupt files out there.  I am opening them on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 desktop. Adobe 10.1.7. I have already configured the registry setting for bValidateBytesBeforeHeader that I found in another article to no avail.
The files are on a network share, but I also tried copying them to my local desktop and still received the error.
I have seen other posts regarding this error, but do not see a definitive solution and am hoping that in recent days someone has come up with a solution.
    Thank You
    Brian Dougherty

Not supported file type can (but not always) mean the PDF was created with an old enough version of Acrobat, that it isn't comaptible with reader X or XI.
Might have been damaged is pretty cut and dried in its meaning and interpretation.
There's a known issue with Mac OS and Safari Browser "breaking" PDFs as they download, but it's not so common for Windows. Since these are files you already had, it would be even less applicable.
You can try downloading an older version of Reader to check if it's a compatibility issue, but you'd have to uninstall the latest to do it and it'd be a lot of bother if they still don't open. It would also mean they are "broken" and cannot be repaired, that I know of.

I just finished migrating a client from Google Apps to Microsoft Exchange Online using the IMAP option in the Microsoft Online Services Migration Tool.
I added the mailboxes by creating a CSV file [i.e. GoogleApps(Gmail)_Mailboxes.csv] in the following format:
    SourceIdentity,SourceServer,SourceLoginID,SourcePassword,TargetIdentity
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword1,[email protected]
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword2,[email protected]
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword3,[email protected]
Then I created a custom folder map XML file [i.e. GoogleApps(Gmail)_FolderMap.xml] to map the Google Apps (Gmail) labels to the appropriate Exchange (Outlook) mailbox folders and create those that didn't exist (i.e. Important, Starred, Follow up,
Misc, Priority) as sub-folders under the Inbox:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Additionally, I had to tell the Internet E-mail Mailbox Migration Wizard to use the "Individual Account Credentials" option since I was able to specify each account password in the CSV file when adding the mailboxes to Microsoft Online Services Migration
    Tools console.
Just to note, the users had to manually export their contacts to a CSV file and calendars to iCal (ICS) files in order to import those items into Outlook.
I hope this will benefit others since Microsoft doesn't seem to have a custom, specifically defined migration strategy for this scenario.  With Google Apps being in direct competition with BPOS/Office365, I assumed that Microsoft would have a simple
strategy using something like ActiveSync to facilitate the migration of email, contacts, calendar entries, etc.  Hopefully we'll see something along those lines become available in a future release of the migration tools.

  • Migrate Data from Symantec Altiris Platform to SharePoint 2013

    Hi ,
I have a requirement, Migrate Data from Symantec Altiris to SharePoint 2013.
But I haven't idea about the Symantec Altiris.
Please suggest me appropriate way or Tool name to migrate data from Symantec Altiris to Sharepoint 2013.
    Thanks

Not particularly familiar with Symantec Altiris, but if you have a way to export your data from Symantec Altiris to csv file(s) or any other database storage (such as SQL server, etc.), you may consider using SSIS-based solution to pump data into SharePoint.
Our solution is free for such one-time migration, you can find out more details at our website using the following link.

  • Delete emails from a specific folder in Exchange 2010 SP1

    Hi all,
Since Exchange 2010 SP1 does not have “-DeleteContent” parameter in mailboxexportrequest any more, how do we delete emails from a specific folder of a user mailbox? (Personal folder, not default folders).
Please note that the ASQ for searchquery in Search-Mailbox does not support “folder”.
If going for retention policy, is there a way to tag a retention policy to a specific folder of a user mailbox without user attention?
    William Yang
    William Yang

    Hi William,
Yes, you may not run the Search-Mailbox to delete items in specific folder at the moment. Hope it will be back soon.
You can create a Personal tag, users can apply personal tags to folders they create. But users have to select related Retention Policy using Outlook or OWA manually.

  • Migrating emails from G3 to iMac G5

    Hi,
Does anyboby now if it's possible to import emails from outlook (from a mac running mac os 9.6) to a G5 iMac running mac os X v.10.4 ?
Would it work if I simply open Mail on the iMac and select import mailboxes? (after I have copied all the folders from outlook in my G3 to the iMac)
    Thanks

That would probably work, or you can export your mailboxes to the desktop and either burn them to a disc or carry them over with Migration Assistant. You can ask Mail to import Entourage mail, I'm not sure if it will also import Outlook. Please let us know how you make out,

I just bought the latest Macbook pro running The Maeverick. The Migration assistant could not recognise my old mac book as the OS are incompatible.

  • Migrating emails from Thunderbird: small IMAP mailbox size

I recently got a MacBook Pro and now I want to move my emails from my former email client on a Windows XP PC, Thunderbird, to Mac Mail on the MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.2).
I created the appropriate email account in Mac Mail, this part works fine.
But the size of my IMAP is fairly small, and I used to move my old emails to the Thunderbird local message folders. How do I move everything to my Mac? This is straightforward for the emails that are still on the server, but how do I get both, the ones on the server, and the ones downloaded to Thunderbird to Mac Mail? Do I have to gradually move mails from the local Thunderbird folder to my account, and over to my Mac, and do the whole thing again and again, or is it safe to import the Thunderbird folder to Mac Mail? I would like to avoid double or lost messages.

you can set up thunderbird on the mac first and migrate there. then in Mail go to File menu->import mailboxes. it has an option to import from thunderbird. it might actually be possible to import directly from the copy of your windows thunderbird profile without setting up thunderbird on the mac first.

  • Migrate email from old to new mac (outlook to entourage)

    Hello.
Anyone have any ideas on how to migrate email messages from an old imac (OS 9.2) to a new one (OS X). The old machine is running Outlook and the new one is Entourage. There are ways to save individuals messages as text and then move them over, but that is a lot of saving (one at a time). I don't see an export option in Outlook.
    Thanks for any advice.
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

When you booted up the new machine the first time, did you use the migration assistant? If not, you might want to try using the Restore disk and restore the Mac Pro to its factory state. Also, take a look at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773 and A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs. Those should get you started in the right direction.

BIS doesnt actually download email from your POP3 account, it will still exist on the server so just setup the POP3 account in outlook and download the email directly. If you still wish to keep the email on your blackberry ensure you tick the option "leave mail on server" in the account options in Outlook.

  • Migrating email from old BB to Exchange/Outlook?

    Hello,
How should i go about retrieving some message that are only stored on an old Blackberry (with no wireless service.)
I presume that would involve using the Desktop Manager software, but I am unsure of the correct settings.  The first couple of attempts did not yield any results....  It just shows "processing record 0 of 5000" and then it finishes.
    Thanks

delete the foldertree.json and panacea.dat file and then start Thunderbird. They cache interface components to make startup faster. Removing them might prompt an interface update.

  • Support for Symantec Enterprise Vault?

    Hello,
I have EV2007 running against an Exchange 2003 server. EV is configured to archive messages after two  months. I also have the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).
Problem is that when EV archives a message, it changes the state of the message so that BIS thinks it's a new message - and pushes it to my Blackberry again
I guess that EV is changing the "last modified" field on the message in Exchange and that is causing IMAP to report it as being new plus the original senders get a second delivery report back from the Blackberry!
Has anyone seen this before and found a workaround?  I'm also told that the issue remains whether or not you are running the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
I've contacted Symantec regarding this and was told that they have been trying to work with RIM on this but RIM has been less than cooperative.
    Thanks.

well if symantec is changing the state of the message; symantec is the culprit here not BIS. I dont think RIM will change BIS setup just for syamntec ( there wont be many users is symantec/bis setup out there). Regardless this is Symantec issue.
The statement about BlackBerry enterprise server might not be true though, i dont expect it to re-push message to BB if you were running BES. You can test this by installing BBProfessional software, which is a free download for one user.

  • Can't send email from Apple mail using hosted exchange since upgrade to 10.5.8

I've got a client who just upgraded to 10.8. Since doing so he can recieve email but not send it for a hosted exchange account. He can send and recieve from his personal pop account. It is a wireless connection.  I have tried the following without any success:
    1. Verified all the config info was correct (server password etc) - no change
    2. Deleted and re-added the account - same result
    3. Deleted keychain data and readed the account - no change.
    4. Ran disk utility (why not?) - no change
    5. Removed an internet sharing app called open garden - no change
    6. Installed 10.8.1 - no change
After trying all of this when we start mail everything looks good and then the outbound server abruptly goes "offline". The exchange host says there are no issues on their end. Internet works too. Email delivers/sends to his iPhone, iPad, and a home iMac that was also upgraded to 10.8.
Anyone with other ideas? This one has me stumped.
    -Jonathan

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP.  My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all.  The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck.  (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.
