Migrating Essbase Objects

While migrating essbase objects from one essbase server to another, i copy the whole applciation folder in NT environment.this invariably copies the app.app and app.apb files.
I opened the .app file and saw the database setup details in there and realized that the target app essbase server is different.
Does this mean that copying of .app and .apb files are not needed while migration?
Also, in the target environment, there is not .apb file. i guess this is because it is a newly created blank application upon which the migration is done. In that case, when in the .apb file created as this is the app backup file.

Hi,
The Best thing you can do during migration is, Export Level 0 data first. If you want to use the wizard, it will copy all the Essbase objects. Copy the security file from Dev to QA (assume you are migrating from Dev to QA). If you do not want to use the wizard, just simply create the application in the new server, open the outline (Dev outline) and save it in QA. Now you can import the data and run the calc script. Hope this helps and i did this process many times

  • Migrating Essbase App from SUN to LINUX

    Dear Essbase Members,
Can you please help me in answering the below questions.
We are soon to migrate our essbase applications from Current : Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit OS   - Essbase 11.1.1.3 to Target : Oracle Linux 4 64 bit OS - Essbase 11.1.2.2 .
can i migrate my essbase applications by create all essbase applications on the target servers and just copying all essbase objects like ( .otl, .rul ), level 0 export from source and import in the target and aggregate the cube.
I know we have a migrating utility, but was thinking about the above approach. will i be able to copy files and make it work , as the OS and essbase version are different on both the servers.
or is there a better way to do this.
    Thanks
    MS

Yes you can use that approach or use the EAS migration wizard, personally I would choose the migration wizard as it will migrate more information like filters, substitution variables.
For a list of what is and not migrated using the wizard have a read of - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/eas_help/dbwzmigrpost-migration.html
Remember security will not be migrated if in Shared Services mode.

  • Migrating Essbase from 7.1.6 to 11.1.2.2 in Unix Environment

    Hi Experts,
we are going to migrate Essbase from 7.1.6 to 11.1.2.2 in unix environment. We have heard that we cant migrate directly from 7.X to 11.X Version. If so, then how can we proceed. Please suggest the steps to follow and documents to proceed in Unix Environment. I am new to unix environment.
Your suggestions will be more helpful...
    Thanks,
    Chinnu

    Thanks Celvin,
But my doubt is can we migrate 7.1.6 version Essbase to 11.2.2 version in a single shot? I have heard like If we want migrate 7.1.6 to 11.1.2.2
    1. we have to migrate 7.1.6 to 11.1.3 and then
    2. 11.1.3 to 11.1.2.2.
Will the migration utility work to migrate 7.1.6 to 11.2.2? Please suggest on this am not getting a clear clarification on this.
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade Path for migrating Essbase 7.1 to Essbase 11.1.2.1??

Can any one tell me the upgrade path (and related documents) for migrating Essbase 7.1 to Essbase 11.1.2.1??

    Thanks Nathan for your response.
Will the below Essbase Upgrade steps work (From version 7.1 to Version 11.1.2.1 directly)?
    1. Install Essbase 11.1.2.1 in one server (new) and Shared Services in another server (new). Both the new servers with Win 2008 OS.
2.Login to EAS console in the new server. Open the outline version 7.1 and then migrate to version 11.1.2.1.
    3. Copy the artifacts (such as Calc Scripts and Rule Files etc.) from the Old Essbase directory (Version 7.1) to the new Essbase directory (Version 11.1.2.1).
    4. Extract data from the old system and import into the new system.
    5. Export Essbase security from old system and import to the shared services of the new system. This might requires some manual interventions.
Or, do I have to upgarde from version 7.1 to 11.1.1.3 and then from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.1?

Alignment of SAP BW objects within your SAP BW system landscape     Check and, where required, re-align SAP BW Objects and developments in your SAP BW system landscape (Development, Quality Assurance and Production).
SAP BW Object differences can impact the quality of testing in the Development and Test environment and can lead to change management issues.
     This check is to minimize risk and ensure productive objects are being tested prior to the Production upgrade.
Where alignment issues exist and realignment is not possible, alternative testing plans should be devised.
         Basis/BW
Confirm all developments are deployed.     Ensure that all SAP BW developments are deployed or they are to be re-developed/tested after the upgrade.
     In the DEV system, all SAP BW development transports should be released (i.e. transport created and released) and imported to all downstream systems (i.e. QAS and PRD systems).
For SAP BW developments not already collected in the transport collector, a decision must be made:
Deploy the developments or wait until the upgrade has completed to deploy.
o     Development to be deployed should be collected, released, and imported into the QAS and PRD systems.
o     Developments that should be deployed after the upgrade should be re-tested/re-developed after the upgrade.
     In the QAS or PRD systems, ensure that all SAP BW development transports have been imported prior to the upgrade.

    Pre-upgrade Process:
Download required BI 7.0 support package Stack for inclusion in the upgrade     Determine the equivalent support package level of the source SAP BW release and the target SAP BW release.
     There is a minimum requirement that you upgrade to at least the equivalent support package level on the target SAP BW release so that you do not lose functionality, corrections, and data.
     It is recommended to upgrade to the latest version of all support packages during the upgrade via the upgradeu2019s support package binding functionality.
     BI 7.0 Support Packages are delivered via SAP NetWeaver u201904 Support Package stacks (SP-Stacks). It is not recommended to partially apply some of the SP-Stacksu2019 individual support packages. You should apply all of the SP-Stacks support packages at once.
For more information on the SP-Stacks and SAP NetWeaver SP-Stacks, please see the SAP service marketplace alias SP-Stacks (http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks)
     You should also review, download, and bind in support packages for all add-on components that are installed on SAP BW and will be upgraded during the SAP BW upgrade (e.g. SEM-BW, ST-PI, etc)

     Note: take care not to delete objects that are in use as this will cause queries, compressions, etc to terminate.
         BW
Validate your SAP BW Objects for correctness prior to your upgrade     Using the SAP BW Analysis Tool (transaction RSRV), perform extensive tests on all important SAP BW Objects to ensure their correctness prior to the upgrade.
Note: this test should be repeatable so you can re-validate after the upgrade!
     Ensure that any inconsistencies are identified and corrected
     RSRV has a number of extensive tests and if all checks are executed will consume a large amount of time. Multiple tests can be performed in parallel.
     Tip: Some corrections in development can be deployed to other systems via transport in advance of the next upgrade.

  • What are the essbase objects?

What are types of essbase objects available?

  • Migrate JOB objects from datastore to another

    Hi all,
Please, how can I migrate JOB objects from datastore to another ???
    Edited by: omar.elid on Dec 6, 2011 12:29 PM

If you are talking about changing the connection / source target database in multiple environments, you can have multiple data store configurations.
You can right click a data store, Edit , Advanaced , Edit. At the top, you have Duplicate configuration / Create New configuration.
Create multiple configurations as per multiple environments and set the Default to "Yes" as per your environment.
For migrating jobs from one repository to another.
    In Designer, go to Tools>Export
In to the "Objects to Export" window, drag and drop the objects that you want to export from the "Local Object Library".
Right click on the export window and choose Export. Give the database credentials of the Target Repository (repository into which you want to export the objects). Click Next, change the Target status of the dependent objects to "Exclude" if you do not want to migrate them.

  • Using the Hyperion (Essbase) Objects 6.5  Base Classes

Hi all,I am using Hyperion (Essbase) Objects 6.5 to report from an Essbase 6.5.3 database. Using the sample report.asp page as a guide, I want to use the "EssProperties" class to change the Essbase options for missing values and using aliases, however there no effect on the results returned when setting these properties.Has anyone out there had any success?

You need to set the EssProperties class you created into the EssOperations class:set oEssOperations.EssProperties = <your property class instance>Alternatively, you can modify, in place, the instance of EssProperties that EssOperations already has:with oEssOperations.EssProperties .MissingTextString = "Boo!" .UseAliases = trueend withThink of the Essbase Objects Base Classes sort of as a molecule.. The 'basic atom' of the molecule is the EssOperations class (which contains the normal retrieve/zoom/pivot type of operations). Attached to the 'basic atom' are the things that are needed for a successful operation.. First, a connection (the EssConnection object) is 'plugged into' the molecule. Next, properties (an EssProperties object) is plugged in.. Finally, you need a grid to display it on so you plug in a grid object (or, more technically, one of the components that implement the IEssGrid interface).Once you have all of the 'atoms' of the grid plugged in, you have everything you need to do a successful operation.Tim TowApplied OLAP, Inc

  • Migrating Analyzer Objects to New Server

How are Analyzer objects migrated from a source server to a target server? I am anticpating the creation of various environments (DEV, TEST, PROD) and will need to port Analyzer objects among these environments in support of our releases. It is likely that all Analyzer environments will contain the same version (currently 6.5.1). Will relational repository tables also need to be ported separately, or do the Analyzer import/export utilities take care of everything? Thanks, in advance....

The best way migrating analyzer objects is ,install analyzer in where you want and copy the data from one production(repository )to the Test(other)That want you no need to migrate every report/group which is tedious process.Ram

  • Migrate PARTNER object without telefone number

    Hello,
I try to migrate the object Partner without telefone numbers but the log erros return the follow message:
    Message no. R1304
Field 'Telephone' with short description 'Telephone no.: dialling code+number' has been set within Customizing as a required field. There is, however, no entry in this field.
Can anyone tell me here i can disable this customizing for the telefone number field.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
There are two different types of telephone numbers which can be maintained:
    - Address Dependent
    - Address Independent
Please check if the Required Field flag is unchecked for both of these options and try again.
Also, just check if you are trying to create the Business Partner in the same role for which you have made the changes to customizing?

  • Migrate network object group members; risk

We upgraded to new 5555 hardware and jumped from 8.2 to 9.1 last year. Our objects listing is now a bit messy. I have never run the "Migrate Network Object Group Members" menu option in asdm. I see what it is going to do, I am not sure it really helps me clean old objects, it seems low risk, but when I walk up to execution, there are a lot of changes it wants to make. We always save backup configurations but, if there are "gotchas" I don't want to put the company in that position. What has been the communities, Cisco's experience? Thanks for any feedback. jc

    John,
if you feel that is risky, you can always go for plan B.
    - you can take closure look at the object groups and decide new object naming convention policy.
    - from ASDM or CSM, you can see overlapped or duplicate rules, so you can start with reducing them
    - you can see same services used in couple of rules with different service groups.
         - like object-group service WEB-PORTS tcp
                        port-object eq http
                        port-object eq https
                 object-group service APPLICATION-PORTS tcp
                        port-object eq http
                        port-object eq https
                   object-group service APPS-PORT tcp
                        port-object eq www
                        port-object eq https
    - you can replace all these different object-group with one object group. like WEB-PORTS.
    - same way you can do excercise for network group as well.
    hope this helps.

  • Migrating ODI objects from one environment to another

    Hi,
This is for the first time that i am trying to migrate odi objects from one environment to another. I am facing issue and requesting help.
The odi installation is the part of ASCP module of JDEdwards where some standard objects (interfaces/packages) are already created. I have developed some custom interfaces and want to migrate the same to QA environment.
I exported the specific folder (including children) to an xml file and then trying to import the same in the QA environment.
When i choose "Synonym Insert_Update" option to import is prompts error :
You are importing an object from another repository with same identifier. This is forbidden
This is completely new folder which do not exist on target. If I import using Duplication option, it successfully import and assigns new internal ID to object (which is as expected). But how will I update the newly created object in future ?
What should be followed to migrate objects ?

recreate your OA repository with repository id different from your DEV repository.
Then you should not get this problem.
