Migrating from 32 bit Vista to Win7 64 Bit: Lr Catalog files compatible?

Like many Photographers, I was awaiting the arrival of Windowa 7 to make the upgrade move to a 64 bit OS and upgrade of all my applications to support the 64 bit architecture.  Obviously I am performing a clean installation of the OS and all the related apps- including Lr and Ps.  My concern is, will my current 32 Bit Lightroom Catalog (which, by the way contains 155,000 image files and is 2.5GB in size) files be read by the new 64 Bit version?  Is there a migration/conversion process or is this seamless?

Thank you: just to be extremely clear:  You are saying that a 32 bit LR catalog is seamlessly compatible with a 64 bit Lightroom application?  A real-world scenario for me would be if I  use a 32 bit version of  Lightroom on a laptop, I can also open that same catalog on my 64 bit Win 7 workstation... correct?

  • Tuxedo Migration from Tuxedo 9.1 32 bit to Tuxedo 9.1 64 bit

    Hi All,
Please tell me how to go for Tuxedo Migration from Tuxedo 9.1 32 bit to Tuxedo 9.1 64 bit. O.S. is IBM AIX 5.3 64 bit What are the prerequisite, and how to go for that. Please tell hoe to go for the same. Please mail at [email protected]

    Ravi,
You will need to download 64-bit AIX binaries for Tuxedo 9.1.
Since 64-bit object files and libraries cannot be combined with 32-bit object files and libraries in the same executable, you will also need to obtain 64-bit versions of any database or other third party software that is linked with your Tuxedo application. (If you are using Oracle database, 64-bit and 32-bit support is combined in a single download, and you will just need to change $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 to $ORACLE_HOME/lib in your makefiles.)
Once this is done, you will need to rebuild your Tuxedo servers, clients, and TMS processes.
If you use buildclient and buildserver to compile all files, then you may not need to change anything else. If you call the compiler directly to compile source files into object files, then you will need to add additional flags for 64-bit compilation. If your makefiles are well-coded, you might just need to change CFLAGS in one place. Look at the output of "buildclient -v" for a simple client on the 32-bit system and on the 64-bit system to see which additional flags might be needed.
When your application is compiled in 64-bit mode, you just need to test it out to ensure that the application does not have any implicit 32-bit dependencies such as assuming that a "long" is the same as an "int".

  • Migration from SUSE 32 to RHEL64 bit

    Hi all,
WE want to migrate our Oracle databse from oracle 9.2.0.6 database from SUSE 10 32 bit to RHEL4 64 bit platform.
I want ot know can i use RMAN Duplicate database command to migrate the same....
or i have to use the exp/imp method only.....

So sir don;t u think so if i will use IMP?EXP it is better.....
yeah there we have to create schema ,tablespace and then import.......
According to you first i have to install oracle 32 bit and in oracle 32 bit , in oracle 32 bit SGA can't excced 1.7 gb then i have to use transport tablespace to import and then i have to upgrade our oracle s/w from 32 bit to 64 bit then increased the memory ...don't u think so it will increase the overhead...pls suggest me...

  • How do i upgrade my tx2500ea from 32bit vista to 64 bit vista

i have a tx2500ea and wish to upgrade to vista 64 bit operating system to make use of the extra ram as i can only use 3 and a bit gb with the 32 bit vista.
could anyone let me know if this is possible, and if so how do i do it, also if it is possible can i run more than 4gb of ram with the 64bit system.
    thanks
    Roger
PS could you please keep the technical details very simple as im not to hot with the lingo

To combine the two posts above: You don't really need to switch unless you have more than 3-4 gigs of ram, and IF you switch, you do have to re-install. The benefits of a 64-bit system are hardly noticable, though; unless you do some really computing-intensive tasks, particularly with floats iirc.
EDIT: I, too, switched just out of curiosity, though.

  • Upgrading 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7?

I bought a T500 laptop with 32 bit Vista business installed, now I am thinking to order a free upgrading  64 bit Windows 7 professional, dose anybody know it is possible? I know I need to do a fresh installation if I want a 64 bit windows 7 on a 32 bit OS PC, but I don't care. I am wondering if I can order a 64 bit Windows 7 from lenovo, it seems ok if I go through the Lenovo online ordering system, but I am not sure what will happen to my order in the end, has anyone tried this?

    Just order a 64bit Upgrade.
You will need to do a clean instal.

  • Oracle Application R12.1.1 Migration from Solaris to Linux 64-bit

    Hi,
    Our existing System:
    On Solaris 9:
    Database 10.2.0.2
    EBS 11.5.10.2
We are planning to Upgrade the system to
    Database 11.2.0.3
    EBS R12.1.3
We also want to migrate to RHEL 5 64-bit.
Please let me know if you have experience with respect to the following issues:
    1. Can I use *Application Tier Platform Migration with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 [ID 438086.1]* as reference for my scenario? The document mentions that only Windows is supported as the source platform.
    2. When they copy APPL_TOP from source to target - how the binaries from source operating system will work on target operating system? Else, are they platform independent?
    3. Will the following approach work?
    a. Migrate 10.2.0.2 database from source (Solaris) to target (RHEL 5 64-bit).
    b. Upgrade 10.2.0.2 database to 11.2.0.3 on target.
    c. Install R12.1.1 in upgrade mode on target.
    d. Retrofit customization.
    e. Upgrade R12.1.1 to R12.1.3
Also can you recommend best practise for Migrating database?
    Thanks in advance.

Note: Application Tier Platform Migration with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 438086.1) reads: "The instructions in this document are for migration to a target UNIX/Linux platform. At present, Windows is only supported as a source platform."
Note the word SOURCE. So the restriction is Windows cannot be used as a TARGET platform, but other platforms can.
The content of the APPL_TOP is re-used in the Target environment, except for the binaries; these are delivered by applying the "customer-specific update" as in Note : Application Tier Platform Migration with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 438086.1)
For information on the database migration check Note: 10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i (Doc ID 362205.1) and http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/migrating_ebusiness_suite_databases_between_platfo
The scenario seems OK, but needs to be tested of course.
For information related to upgrading the database for the EBS upgrade check Note: Database Preparation Guidelines for an E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Upgrade (Doc ID 761570.1)

  • Migrate from PC Vista Home Edition to new Mac Air Lion

I have tried following the support instructions but my pc running vista home edition will not be recognized by my Air running Lion using Migration Manager or vice versa

Thanks, Ralph. I used both articles to guide me, and followed them to the letter. Downloaded Migration Assistant to my Windows machine and connected correctly. However, the window that I get on my Air when I open Migration Manager has three options but none of them mention PC - the nearest I can figure is an option for connecting "From a Time Machine backup or other disk"; the other two options are from or to another Mac.
Any help would be appreciated. I have already wsted hours on what is described as a simple operation.
    Thanks

  • Migration from PC Vista to Macbook Air not working

When I try to migrate following the instructions I've read and using the Ethernet adapter I bought yesterday, I get into a vicious password request cycle on my Macbook. It doesn't seem to like either my account password or my MacBook password and asks me to reset my password. I did the reset, but it didn't like that either. Fortunately, my original pw still works. Are there some simple migrations for Dummies instructions somewhere that don't require me to know all the Apple vocabulary?

  • Bridge to CS4 64 bit Vista - Problem with bit depth

I'm using Camera Raw in Bridge and CS4 64 bit. When the Camera Raw window opens in Bridge, the image is shown in 8 bit mode even though shot in 16 bit. I could not find a setting in either the Bridge or CS4 Preferences that accounts for the down sampling. If I do the same raw conversion in Lightroom, this down sampling doesn't occur. Any ideas? Thanks

  • 64 bit Vista-should I return new computer since I can't use Z22 or E2?

I've read enough to realize there is no compatibility with the new 64 bit systems; I'm no geek (don't even know what 64 bit means) but I know I need my Palm info; I didn't want to go with Vista but didn't have a choice that I'm aware of; just purchased an HP Touchscreen and tried to hotsync and I guess you guys know the rest; is there another OS out there that I can transfer my Palm OS to and just buy a new device?  If not, what am I to do if I need a new computer?  Please help, as I'm scared and confused and tired.  Thanks in advance, as always!
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

64-bit Windows lets you use more memory in your computer (more than 4GB). Vista-64 also has some additional security features. Microsoft has laid out the differences here:
A description of the differences between 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946765
If you can easily exchange for a computer with 32-bit Vista, that probably will help with other compatiblity issues as well. If not, I think I have read here that you can sync using Bluetooth instead of a USB cable. Do you know whether your new HP has Bluetooth?

  • OS Migration from Windows 2003 cluster  to Windows 2008 R2 MSCS

We want to go for windows 2008 R2 server ( 64-Bit)  MSCS by migrating from windows 2003 Cluster ( 32- Bit) . We are running on ECC 6.0 and oracle 10.2.0.2 DB.
    Is it possible ?
Is it traditional System copy if so how to migrate the cluster ?
    Regards

    > 2. If the oracle version is 10.2.0.2 then does it will support Windows 2008 R2.
You need at least 10.2.0.4 (you need to install that version with a separate DVD, you can't install with the normal Oracle DVD (10.2.0.1). See
Note 1303262 - Oracle on Windows Server 2008
Be aware of the fact that the normal standard support for 10.2.x is ending at end of july (you'll have to pay an extra maintenance fee if you continue to run that version) - see
Note 1110995 - Extended maintenance for Oracle Version 10.2
So if you now do a system copy to new hardware with a new os anyway, I would upgrade to 11.2.

  • Upgrade and migration from Netware to Linux best practice

    Hi folks,
We've been running NSM 2.5 for a few years on Netware and have been very satisfied with the product and performance. We are planning to migrating to SLES11 with OES11 very soon to finally move away from Netware and I have some issues I can't seem to find answers to. Of course I want to use NSM to move my home directories from my Netware to my SLES so I want this working well when we migrate.
I've searched but not found a good resource to show how to move the NSM engine from a Netware server to a Linux server with best practices. Anyone have experience with this and any gottchas?
The other question is of course is to upgrade NSM to a new version before or after the move to Linux/OES11? We are at Ver 2.5.0.43 and want to move to the latest version. Upgrade procedure and best practices would be handy.
The last of course is NSM compatible with SLES/OES11? I presume it is and certainly hope so because we want to move all of our users to SLES11 NSS.

The NSM 3.0.x Engine setup process actually handles the migration from
NSM 2.5 fairly easily. Our 3.0 Installation Guide (available at
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/storagemanager3 ) includes all the
information you should need regarding migration, including the
    suggestions I'll list here.
You'll want to leave NSM 2.5 running during the migration so that the
NSM 3.0 setup wizard can connect to that Engine and import its policies
and pending events. You'll also want to have as few pending events as
possible in NSM 2.5 -- deferred deletes are fine, but all pending events
will slow down the migration process, since they'll have to be
    transferred over.

Again, this information is available in the 3.0 Installation Guide. To
migrate from 2.5 to 3.0.x, you'll have to have at least one OES11 server
in your tree to install it on; but you'll also have to leave the NSM 2.5
Engine running on its Netware host long enough to migrate from it.
    > The last of course is NSM compatible with SLES/OES11? I presume it is

We are about to release version 3.0.4 of NSM, which provides full
support for OES11 on SLES11. The NFMS Support Team can also provide you
with builds of NSM 3.0.3 which support OES11; if you need those for
early testing, please send an email to storagemanager[at]novell[dot]com.
    Hope this helps!

  • Drivers/Utilities CD..XP and VISTA..can I use vista for WIN7 64 bit install?

Drivers/Utilities CD's, that came with the p-35 Motherboard..XP and VISTA..can I use Vista for WIN7 64 bit install, or download the chip set drivers for Awin7 BEFORE the OS install??
    MSI P-35 Platinum
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad
    Presently XP 32Bit
    NVidia geforce 8600GT
    8GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400-800MHz
    Windows 7..waiting to be installed.
    Hello,
I WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.I have Windows 32 Home XP, I have the Win7 OEM I want to install.
When i bought my MSI mobo, it came with both the drivers and utilities for XP and Vista.   Can I use the chip set drivers and utilities for Vista, until i can go to MSI and download the latest chip set drivers?  When do i install these drivers....before the OS install, or after?
Can I format these drives first, go in the BIOS change to boot sequence from Raptor Boot Drive to the DVD/Rom to boot the WIN7 from, or should I format while installing Win7?
Someone on another forum suggested that 1) disconnect the two droves, then install the OS on the boot drive, and2) before win7 install, make the proposed boot drive (NOT THE DVD/CD ROM the first choice priority for the boot sequence....is this right?
Is it absolutely necessary to unplug the other two drives, while formatting and installing the WIN7 O.S.?  People tell me that there is a chance of the OS installing sometimes on the other drives.
Also, if I want to change the now present boot drive Local disk letter (C) to my storage drive (G) and the other two drive letters, can I do this in manage disks, anytime, or only during windows setup install?
    Thx

I've never had this much trouble hooking up a HDD.
I have two IDE DVD/CD ROMS.  (My RAID MODE was IDE in XP OS, and still is with WIN7.)
           I have three SATA HDD's.
After unplugging the SATA 2TB HDD while I installed the WIN7 OS on the 500 GB HDD (it was on the 74 RAPTOR, but I moved location, and made absolutly sure nothing went on my raptor)
So today I decided to re-hook up the 2TB Storage HDD, and when I did, I went into bios, and to the cell menu, and LOAD ALL DEFAULT SETTINGS, so it could see my newly installed HDD,which I had all my backup Data from the previous HDD. I also checked and the RAID MODE was IDE, and the boot sequence was the WDC 500GB Boot/OS drive, rebooted, then I got that annoying blanked out screen with that blinking cursor, so I got back into the bios, and changed the 1st boot to the IDE Pioneer DVD/CD ROM, 2nd boot to the 500GB HDD, and rebooted again..still got that blinking cursor.
I opened up the Mobo, checked and replugged all SATA, and power cables to the three HDDS, tried it again, then still got the blinking cursor.  Seems no matter what I change in the boot sequence,it never wants to boot properly
    ....AND THEN,
I started with TAB > POST> started WINDOWS, then once it opened up, I went to manage Disks, saw all three HDDs were online and healthy.  Win. Explorer also listed them in that folder, in device manager, it listed all three too.
     The managed window showed this:
    74GB    (system,active,Primary partition)                       Storage
    2TB     (Primary partition)                                           Excessive Storage
500GB  (Boot, page files,crash-Dump, Primary partition)   Operating system
Both the PCI IDE BusMaster and ON-Chip SATA Controller were both ENABLED.
Before I just got online, I tried RESTART, and it opened Windows the usual way,  so I hope I don't have any more problems. It worked fine BEFORE I just plugged in the 2TB HDD back in.
I pretty much did what everyone suggested, except for leaving in the 74GB Raptor when I installed WIN7, which prompted me to format the drive prior to installing the OS.  Also, when I changed the IDE, RAID,and AHC1, to the AHC1 Mode, just before I installed Window7, like a few suggested, I also had problems, so after the install, I went back and changed it back to IDE.  My Floppy was an IDE, but I removed it from my system, and disabled in BIOS, but even a few times I went into Bios and saw that thje floppy was 1st Boot, even though I changed to either the DVD/CD Rom, or the 500GB boot drive.
So what is the preferred boot sequence?
