Migrating from 7.x to 8.1 with parallel server options.

I have been working on one of the world's largest ORACLE installations. The applications for the users are built on Cool:Gen, ORACLE 7.x database running on HP-UNIX 10.
Brief of the erstwhile architecture.
The business called for the management of 19M gas meter points in all aspects, from siteworks/address admin to invoicing. The volume of the database was so large that the entire application systems was distributed into 8 partitions of sites and meters, 1 parttion for invoicing, 1 for core jobs and 1 for common. Each parttion being a separate instance of 7.x database running on HP-UNIX 10. Every instance of the databse communicated with each other via one or more database links. The requirement from the business is that the daily jobs alongwith special + adhoc jobs fit within a single day. The jobs are monitored through ECS (Scheduler). Also, in a 24 hour cycle, the database had a backup cycle (essentially down time for applications) time of 3 hours. Also, external updates from sites are done for 3 hours in the morning during which no user job could be run.
Problem :
Of late, the client decided to migrate to Cool:Gen ver 5.0, ORACLE 8.1, and HP-UNIX ver 11, all running on 3 V-class servers, with load balancing between the three servers.One server will be dedicated for handling the 8 partitions of sites and meters, one for Invoicing and the third for other anciliary systems.
Upgradation of the earlier system to the new one called for removing all databse links, and other parttion dependent code from the SQLs and make some necessary changes in the Cool:Gen code. However, not all of the code required changes.
The problem is, that the code which performed 100% within the Gas Flow Day when put into the new consolidated environment (all partitions put together)running on V-Class servers, completely fails to perform. So much so, that the code that ran for about 3-4 hours on production earlier now takes no less than 38-40 hours. Had it been the case with few of the code, it could be believed that the problem was with the individual codes. But in this case, it has been found that majority of the jobs are hitting the acceptable performance barrier. This clearly puts that there is a global solution to this and something where things have gone fundamentally wrong.
Can some one please help.
P.S. : Tips on ORACLE 8 parallel server installation and tuning will be highly appreciated.

HI,
If any of the Route Point is in Disabled state (done from the UCCX side) you will see this CM Telephony going to Partial service. For a test purpose try enabling all the Route points from UCCX and restart the CTI Manager service from CUCM, you will witness the CM Telephony service coming to normal In_Service state.

  • Migrated from old Mac to new Mac with Lion, iPhoto 6 still here, can't update

    Hi, I just migrated from an old MacBook to a brand new MacBook Pro. The Apple Store did the migration for me. For some strange reason, iPhoto 6 is present on this Mac, even though it should have come with iPhoto '11. I understand that I should be able to install iPhoto '11 from the App Store, since this Mac is entitled to it, but it only shows up as a $15 purcahse instead.
    Does anyone know how to get the App Store to recognise that this Mac shipped with, and is entitled to, iPhoto '1?

    First, get rid of any old copy of iPhoto you have on the new computer. Log into the App Store using your Apple ID. Click on Purchases icon. At the top you should find the three iLife apps with an Accept button to click on. Then you can download iPhoto without having to pay for it.

  • Can't migrate from 10.8 to 10.9 with Time Machine

    My old 2009 MacBookPro stopped working and I replaced it with the new one and hoped to be able to use the Migration Assistant to recover my backed up data I had in Time Machine. So far it jsut keeps "Looking for other sources" when I choose to migrate from Time Machine. I was told I should be able to do this going to the new system and I've done it with out any issues in the past. Is there anything I can do to get this working?

    I'm having the same issue with trying to restore a Time Machine backup of a Mavericks machine saved to my Airport Time Capsule to a newly re-installed Macbook Pro running Mavericks. Anyone have any other suggestions?
    The Migration Assistant keeps getting stuck on Step 5 of the section "Time Machine And other disk migration" in these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872.
    The computer names have been set to the same names. My Airport Time Capsule firmware version is 7.7.2.
    Solution: I had to click on the Time Capsule icon to enable the "Continue" button. The icon doesn't look like a selectable button, unfortunately.

     We are migrating from Google Apps to Office 365. I know the normal procedure of migrating, but I want to know how to migrate from gmail to office 365 with administrator credentials. Normally for migration, we use user's mail ID and password in CSV file.
    But I don't want to use users credentials, instead I want to use only Administrator credentials.

    I have created 2 connections.
    1. Access connection with the source database
    2. Oracle connection.
    I have associated the oracle connection to the repository.
    When I go through 'MIGRATION WIZARD' process. I am not able to view the source database file while capturing. Tried it several times.

    you cannot do an online migration with MS Access as you can do with other foreign datasources. You can only do an offline migration.
    The first step that you need to do is to call the Microsoft Access Exporter. Click on Tools - Migration - Microsoft Access Exporter and chose the exporter of the MS Access version that you are using.
    The exporter creates an xml file for you. After the exporter has finished you can do the migration, click on Tools - Migration - Migrate, but in Step 4 please select "Offline", and then you can select the xml file that the exporter has created. The following steps in the Migration assistant are then doing the migration for you.
    You might also want to read the chapter "Before Migrating From Microsoft Access" in the online help of SQL Developer.

  • Migration from Serial polling to Serial queue with event handler

    Hi, I am trying to migrate from classical serial polling communications to serial queue with "event handler" for the buttons pressed by the user. I have placed four while loops, one for the event handler, a second one for serial reading, a third one for serial writing (depending on what button was pressed) and the last one for processing what was read from the serial reading while loop, via a queue.
    My attached device reads the signals from 8 sensor ( 4 temperature and another 4 temperature plus humidity in the same sensor ) and send them via serial to Lavbiew.
    First of all, only once just after running the LV program, I must turn on my attached device with an ON command plus a carriage return after that the device will respond with the number of sensors plugged to it, disabling the corresponding buttons in the front panel. Then labview must wait until I pressed Acquire Button (event handler) and send a CF command plus what sensors to acquire plus a carriage return, then the device will respond continuously to labview with the sensor readings until I press the stop button (event handler), there is also another button to exit the program, also with event handler.
    I am having problems using the event handler and the queues because I am new using these structures, I have looked at  the LV examples but there is nothing concrete on using serial with event handler and queue.
    Take a look at my VI and you will soon notice what kind of problems I am having, any suggestions will welcome.

    Hi Luisete,
    Maybe the problem arise because you are En- and DeQueue in parallel. You do a lot of things in parallel, that is nice if you are sure that one loop doesn't have to wait for another loop. Make sure you don't dequeue before enqueue.

  • Migrating from 10gR2 to 11gR2 using impdp with network_link fails

    Hi,
    I'm trying to migrate a database from 10gR2 (Novell SLES 10) to a new server (Novell SLES 11) with 11gR2. I created a database on the new system with all required users and tablespaces. Then I used impdp in 11g with a database link to the source database:
    impdp system/pw@db NETWORK_LINK=X_SourceServer FULL=Y
    This command fails immediately with ORA-39113: unable to determine database version. Even using the parameter VERSION=10.2.0 doesn't change the result.
    The Oracle Upgrade Guide tells me that upgrading is possible from 10* to 11* and recommeds impdp and network link. Is the failure perhaps a bug in the NETWORK_LINK procedure? Should I better try expdp on the source and impdp on the target with a dumpfile as intermediate (the database ist rather big, so dealing with files across the network will take a lot of storage capacity)?
    Has anyone tried this method with success?

  • Data Migration from External HD to my computer with newly installed HD

    Help, my saga continues. I had to have a new hard drive intalled on my year old IMac 24 inch. Just brought it back from the Apple Store and prior to this, they told me to back up my info onto my external and when the new HD was installed I could simply drag and drop my old into my new. Well, tried to do that today when I got home and no go. I have basically an equivlant of a new computer and can't figure out how to get my old data onto my new HD. I have my email prefs, my Itunes library, all of that on the external. Help!

    Hi Heather - how did you create your backup on your external drive? Did you make a bootable clone (using software such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper) of your old internal drive? If so, then all you need to do is boot from the external drive (hold down option key on startup and chose the external drive as startup disk). Then you can run CCC or SuperDuper again to clone the external back onto the new internal drive.
    If you just drag and dropped your data files to the external drive as backup, then you'll have to first install the operating system on the new internal drive. For that, you need the original installation disks that came with your Mac. Once the system is installed, you can then move your data files back to the internal drive.

  • Migrate from Raid 1 to Raid 5 with IX4-300D

    I am considering to buy a IX4-300D.
    But what I would like to know: I might consider starting up with 2 drives in RAID-1, and later down the road buy a 3rd drive to upgrade my to RAID-5.
    Can this be done on the fly, meaning I can just put in the 3rd drive, and I can upgrade to RAID-5 without data loss?
    (Yes, I should certainly have a backup before doing that, but I would like to get around to create a new RAID-5 and having to copy back the data from the backup)
    And will I be able to upgrade my 3 drive RAID-5 later to 4 drives?

    Have not tried / seen this yet. All lenovo pieces with raid 5 had 4 disks in, although theoretically it would work with 3, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID
    If you think that deeply into it you should also spend the 90 Euro for another e.g. 2 TB WD RED
    Various PCs / Laptops ( sorry I still really love Dell and Fujitsu ;-))

    I don't think you can do this without using the Consolidate function (which requires you to have "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked).
    However, if you were willing to accept a slight modification to your present set-up I think something could still be done. First you need to look at this article :

    Assuming you've followed that route, you now have all your WAV files in iTunes. Here you can adapt the Genre tag to sort / create playlists from not only what iTunes puts in there, but your own additional Genre information also (for example I've combined all my Soul R&B and Disco genres by adding the SRBD suffix to each separate genre then using that suffix to pull them all up if I want). I also use the Comment tag to store release date (or in my case, Chart Entry date, but it's the same principle).
    Bottom line, I don't think you can exactly replicate your current setup, but I think you can modify it.

  • Migration from 10.5.8 in PPC to new server on 10.6.x

    Currently running 10.5.8 server on a ppc Mac. Looking, at moving to 10.6.x which will thus require new hardware.
    Problem is the existing server has a valid externally signed SSL cert. for Web and email and is the domain master for the OD.
    If this was a desktop I'd boot the existing box up in target mode and then migrate then upgrade, but I get the feeling the cert. and the Open Directory suff is going to really object to that.
    Anyone go any thoughts on how easy this is going to be? I'm guessing new cert. will be required, then moving the clients to new mail server......

    To start programming, you can use Mac OS X 10.5.8 and an old Xcode version if you don't want to upgrade now. With this, you will get a first look into the OS X and iPhone OS environment.
    However, respecting to iOS programming, I recommend you to upgrade to, at least, Mountain Lion if you can. OS X Mountain Lion needs a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook or an Early 2009 MacBook, so if you haven't got one of them, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard# Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install 10.6.8.
    Now, if you want, you can upgrade to Lion, if your computer isn't compatible with Mountain Lion. Lion will allow you to use the most recent Xcode version, so you can have a look at programming for the most recent iOS version, which is really useful because you can learn how to create apps for the new iOS 6 features, and if you are a registered developer, you can get access to iOS 7 beta and prepare your apps

    We are planning to migrate to a new server and on that new server, we will install BO XI R3. We have the following issues:
    1. All our users have bookmarked the XI R2 address in their browser. How can we transparently forward them to the new server. Can we do it with DNS forwarding?
    2. Even we can forward to the XI R3 login page, but how can we keep running our existing Xcelsius Dashboards. The Xcelsius dashboards get refreshed using live office and the live office model points to XI R2 reports. Do we need to update the model for each of the dashboards to point to the new server?
    Please let us know if anyone has any suggestion/experience.

    My suggestion/experience is you will want to have access to both XIR2 and 3.0 during the migration.
    A migration is one of the more complicated tasks and there could be unforseen obstacles.
    In theory you should be able to migrate most or all of your XIR2 to 3.0 and then give out a new link to allow others to test. At the same time you leave XIR2 and the old links available in case issues arise you will have a backup.
    Live office should be able to be redirected to 3.0 there is a legacy support built in for this (dswsbobje).
    The final goal of course is to migrate everything to 3.0 and stop using the XIR2
    There are many consultants both within BO/and 3rd party that can help plan a migration.
    You should also have the support of the BO deployment team if migration issues should arrise.

    I did have the Remote Server Administration Tools installed previously when I was running windows 8 pro and everything was fine. I've tried to remove the older version but according to the below it isn't even installed and Remote Server Administration

    I’ve seen this issue in the past and it occurred because the file was corrupted. 
    It’s possible that something went wrong when downloading it originally on your newly upgraded machine. 
    Try downloading
    KB2693643 again from another machine and install it.
