Migrating from 9i on windows to 9i on unix

Hi all,
where can I find info on how to migrate an Oracle database from Windows to Unix platform?
I am currently running Oracle 9i on Windows 2000. I'd like to migrate to Oracle 9i on Aix5L. What is the best way to migrate the data across platforms? I was thinking of exporting to flat files and FTPing over to unix to do imports. But how can I recreate the control files, redo logs and init? Do I have to create the database on Aix before importing database from windows or import process create it automatically?
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes, create the "physical" part of the Oracle DB first.
An Oracle export dump contains only the "logical" stuff :) (definitions/metadata and data).

  • Migration from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 11 - What steps?? (MAC)

    I am planning to migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 11 (Mac). I will continue to use the PE catalog in PE 11 to organize my library of 16,000+ photos.  Although I had considered moving to Aperture for my Digital Asset Manager (in order to more seamlessly work in an Apple environment), I have instead decided to stay with PE since I am familiar with it and happy with its functionality.
    I am hoping that this forum can help me: I need to know what steps to follow to perform this migration.  (I am a non-technical user.  All I know thus far is  that I need buy a boxed version or PE11 -  NOT download it from the Apple app site - in order to get the cataloging function.)  I would like the process to enable me to port both my photos AND my hierarchical keyword tagging structure.
    (Some background on why I am asking this question proactively: I was severely burned in a previous upgrade from PE 5 to PE 8 (Windows XP to  Windows 7) where ALL of my tagging got lost in the move. This, despite hours of work with the Adobe support team who had me write the keywords into metadata and re-backup, re-port, etc, etc.  It was a nightmare of many hours spent.  All unsuccessful.  I ended up manually re-tagging each of my photos.  Needless to say, I do not want to go through that again,)
    Thanks in advance for your help.  Amy

    Elements Downloader doesn't auto run on a mac. It's set up so that you always have to launch it from organizer.
    If you know you won't use iphoto, then it's a good idea to go to the iphoto preferences>General>When a camera is connected, and choose No Application, in which case the card will mount like a drive on your desktop and you can drag the photos from it or launch PSE Downloader, or choose Image Capture, in which case apple's own OS X downloader/scanner utility launches and you can use that, then File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders to bring them into Organizer.
    For moving the catalog, the most important thing is to be sure the catalog is okay in windows first, so do go to manage catalogs>repair, and then optimize before backing up. The transfer is very easy when it works.

  • Migrating from AIX to Windows

    Hi all,
    We are considering in a SAP R/3 4.6c to ECC6 Upgrade, the option to migrate from AIX to Windows OS.
    We heard that this option is not so usual.
    - Could you tell us some feedback and recommendation about it?
    - What kind of issues will we face?
    Thanks for your help,
    Chris

    Usual? What is "usual"?
    > - Could you tell us some feedback and recommendation about it?
    > - What kind of issues will we face?
    This depends heavily (if not only) on your environment. Some thoughts:
    - Windows is little endian whereas AIX is big endian; this may affect connected software (non-SAP software, filesystem transfers etc.)
    - additional software plus licenses may become necessary (cluster, backup...)
    - do you have enough knowledge about Windows (+ its internals) as you have on AIX? Windows is not "easier" by default just because you have a mouse to click... (even if everyone thinks it is). Windows administration is totally different to any *nix (you may need to change scripts, consider updating regularly, think about problems you didn't have before (Virus, Worms) etc.)
    - Hardware for Windows is usually cheaper than Power based hardware for AIX
    - Windows licenses (+ CALs) must be bought
    Just as another thought: Did you consider running Linux instead? You will use the same (cheaper) hardware with a more common environment (if you come from AIX)?

  • SAP Printer migration from AIX to windows

    Dear Experts,
    We migrated our ECC from AIX to Windows.
    We want to migrate printers from AIX to windows.
    Do we have to create queues from scratch in SPAD?
    Can we use existing queues in SPAD?
    Please guide what all steps are required.
    Your help will be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi Hary,
    For windows environment you need to change the spool server hostname in SPAD and activate all the relevant printers.
    Please check whether you had any network printers configured on AIX host. You can use command
    smitty spooler  or
    lpstat -W -p<queuename>
    If there are any spoolers configured for SAP system, you need to recreate them on windows.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    1) Does oracle support this kind of migration?Yes.
    2) Is this achievable, without involving any functional consultants? You do not need any functional consultants for this migration.
    3) Can anyone help with some metalink notes or document on this migration?Please see these documents.

  • Migrating from PSE for Windows 6 to PSE for Mac 6 including metadata

    Can't find anything in the knowledge base on this.
    I am giving up on Windows. Its just too messy and ugly. One of the final changes will be migrating from MS Windows Vista and PSE 6 to a brand new Mac, using LEopard 10.5.2 and PSE for Mac 6.
    I want to migrate my images from the Windows machine, as well as the metadata organizing information. Surely I am not the only one with this need. I know I can save the mages in a mutually readable file format, export, and have them on the Mac, but I have a great deal of metatdata and image organization in the Windows version of PSE 6.
    Please tell me how to migrate the entirety of PSE for Windows to my new Mac.
    Thanks.....

    Some related questions-- can Bridge CS3 search sub-folders? Could I filter for a Keyword at the top of a tree, and locate all files with that keyword in sub-folders?
    While exporting files from PSA2 on a PC I am using Share / Email to attach my existing keywords. Can they be drag-and-drop added to a Hierarchy in the Keywords panel? (Either from the Filter panel where they are automatically listed and counted, or from the "Other" location in the Keywords panel where they appear italicized?)
    I had deluded myself into believing that PSE6 for the Mac included Organizer. Would Lightroom be a logical option for organizing? Particularly if I want to catalog many images on CD without storing them on disk? Can it be purchased separately? What other options would you recommend?

  • OS migration from XP to windows 7 using SCCM for 900 remote location.... Single pc every site.

    Hi,
    I am running into this issue. We have SCCM 2012 in place and i have to migrate 900 remote sites (extremely slow bandwidth) with no DP, from XP to windows 7. Each site only have 1 PC running XP and my task is to do migration plus migrate data over from xp
    to windows 7 too using sccm. Please advise how it can be done? The critical thing is 'extremely slow bandwidth' between locations and head office.
    I understand in other scenarios i could have created 'Task Sequence' and had advertised it over the WAN but here it seems i cannot because of extremely slow bandwidth.
    Any help will be deeply appreciated.

    You have a very tough challenge ahead. You have the option of creating stand alone media for the task sequence and distributing it to the remote sites to work around the slow bandwidth issue. You still have the challenge of data migration to work through.
    This is a very complex question that to answer requires specific knowledge of your environment. Can it be done? Yes. With the basic info in your question I would propose delivering media to each site that can be used to deploy the new os task sequence and
    backup and restore the data.

  • Upgrade + migration from nw04 on windows 2000 to nw04s on windows 2008

    Dear all,
    I need to upgrade and migrate my nw04 java system from windows 2000 to nw04s on windows 2008.
    From the PAM I can see that NW04 is not supported on windows 2008 and that nw04s (7.0) is not supported on windows 2000.
    So, which is the correct upgrade path? Do I need an intermediate win 2003 server which is supported from both the releases?
    Thanks and regards in advance
    Federico

    Hello my friend
    This will be a very interesting project for sure. As you know, kernel 640 is not supported on win2008 and 700 is not supported on win2000, so here there must be a win2003 as a transition platform for this upgrade+ migration, not to mention migration from 32bit to x64 is also involved. You didn't mention the DB versions in source and target systems, as well as the SAP product you're trying to go with. Here's a brief checklist right now for what I can think of, once you're back with more details then let's make it intact:
    I assume your source OS/DB is win2000SQL2000 32bit, target one is win2008SQL2008 x64.
    1. Install a win2003 x64 server and SQL2000 32bit;
    2. Install a new SAP instance same as your source system release in 32bit compatible mode;
    note: if the system being migrated is BW, then be aware of that you might want to bring new features in SQL2008 of row compression and table partitions.
    3. Detach the source DB from old SQL2000, and attach it to new SQL2000; some post configuration for DB copy will be required (STM tool). Now you've finish a migration from win2000 to win2003 32bit;
    4. Start upgrading NW04 to 7.0, 640 to 700, find details in upgrade guide; Now you have your 700 instance on win2003 x64+SQL2000 32bit;
    note: since release 701(700 EHP1) is available now, which you might want to upgrade instead of 700.
    5. Change the collation 850BIN2 for SQL2000 32bit, detach DB;
    6. Since migration from 32bit to x64 cannot be done smoothly, now you have to uninstall everything and reinstall win2003 and SQL2008 x64, followed by a new 700 or 701 instance;
    7. Attach the source DB, post configuration for DB copy will be required (STM tool); Now you have your 700 or 701 instance on win2003 x64+SQL2008 x64;
    8. Detach the SQL2008 DB;
    9. Now go to your target win2008 OS, install SQL 2008 x64 and new 700 or 701 instance;
    note: there might be some restrictions for NW 7.0 on win2008, go with the latest release (SR3 or newer).
    10. Attach DB to this final OS/DB version: win2008 x64+SQL2008 x64, post configuration for DB copy will be required (STM tool).
    Helpful?

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements Windows to MAC

    Hi,
    I don't know if this question is answered already somewhere in this forum. I started a search without results.
    Maybe I'm wrong. If so, please apologize.
    I used Elements for years on my Windows box. Recently I bought an iMac and would like to know if it's possible
    to migrate my albums and all the stuff from Windows to Mac using the Mac version of Elements.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    ssv

    The mac version of PSE has no organizer, so no, not directly. What you can do is to create tags for all your albums and categories, and then use File>Write Tags and Properties to File(s) or John Ellis's psedbtool to write the tags as metadata keywords that many mac programs, including Bridge (which you get with PSE/mac) and iphoto can recognize, but you will need to reestablish any hierarchies.

  • Migration from PC (using Windows XP) to Mac (Mountain Lion) with Bootcamp

    Part of my work is in a PC environment (architecture) and I want to use a new MacBook Pro with Bootcamp. Does the Migration Assistant work to bring software and files from the PC to Windows on the Mac?
    Any other advice on making the transition?

  • Migration from Eudora for Windows to Eudora for Mac

    Has anybody within the sound of my keystokes ever migrated Eudora from the PC to Mac?
    I have to use Eudora for my work, and while I know I can run it in my Parallels XP Window, I really want to run as little software in Windows as possible so I'm trying to get Eudora to run in OSX. I downloaded the software and it works fine but I have not been able to import my many e-mailboxes from the Windows installation to the Mac.
    The problem actually looks very much like the result I got when I tried to import Eudora folders and mailboxes into Apple Mail: the folders showed up, but none of the messages.
    With the Eudora/Win to the Eudora/Mac import, none of the mailboxes or individual messages showed up.
    Maybe somebody who's reading this has some idea what a simple fix might entail. I'm impressed with how quickly responses show up here, so I've got my fingers crossed.
    Thanks,
    --PS

    OK, here's a variation on the same idea.
    Inside the My Email folder on the PC, are there individual mailbox files, and are they where the actual content of your past email is stored? To check on the latter question, duplicate one of those files on the PC (so you won't have to work with the original file) and open the copy in a text editor such as WordPad. Does the content of the messages in the mailbox appear?
    If not, then Eudora for Windoze apparently keeps its mailbox files quite differently from Eudora for Mac, and I don't know what to suggest or where on your PC you might look for the message content. If this proves to be the case, I guess I'd have to suggest that using Eudora for Windoze in Parallels may be the best way to go.
    If the content is there in the mailbox file, Quit WordPad without changing the file at all. Try copying that mailbox file (not the whole enclosing folder) over to the Mac and putting it into Eudora's Mail Folder. (Make sure first that it doesn't have the same filename as any of your existing Eudora Mac mailboxes.) Then open Eudora and see whether that mailbox appears in the mailbox list, and whether the messages in it can be displayed.
    If that doesn't work either, you may want to compare the structure of the Windoze-based mailbox file with the structure of Eudora for Mac's mailbox files, and see whether there's some relatively simple modification(s) you could make to your Windoze files so they'd conform to Eudora Mac's expectations of a proper mailbox file. I would open both files in separate windows, side by side, in a text processor such as TextWrangler (free, fast and enormously powerful, with terrific Find/Replace capabilities), and see what it would take to put the Windoze file into the same form as the Mac file. The comparison with be greatly simplified if you create a new mailbox on your PC, send yourself two or three short test messages, and save them in that mailbox. Then do exactly the same thing on the Mac. Copy the Windoze file to the Mac, and use those two files — which should be as similar as they possibly can be, given the two different platforms — for the comparison. I'll be interested to hear the results.
    BTW, it has taken me something over an hour, what with waiting through nine-minute Discussions page loads this morning, to reach the point of clicking the Post button for this reply. I may not be able to help you in the end, but it isn't for lack of persistence.

  • Help to migrate from XP to Windows 7

    The PC that my family uses to synch our iphones and ipods has crapped out and will not boot and runs Windows XP..  The weird thing is the whole issues started when my son said that all of his music libraries were gone.  So after researching the issue, I was able to restore everything back to an archived itunes library from back in November.  A few days later, the PC wont even boot, is seems something is corrupt in the boot sector.  If I add the hard drive to a PC, I can actually read the data.  So on to my question.
    I am building a new PC which will have windows 7 64 bit.  So my question is, what would the best method be to migrate everything from my XP hard drive to my new Windows 7 PC?  I don't even know what version of Itunes the XP machine was running.  Is there a way to look at some xml file on the XP machine to find out?  I have read other posts on this topic and they seem to get somewhat complicated based on what the old machine(XP)'s folder structure was set to.  I don't recall ever switching to the new folder structure so I am sure it will not match the new iTunes version on my Windows 7 Machine.
    Thanks in advance for an advice, it is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    When you backed up the data, did you use the default setting? Or did you choose the files you needed to backup?
    Files under a profile should all be backed up, except when you created an independent .pst file and imported the data into it.
    You can try Don's suggestion, and we can also post this question to Windows Client forum:

  • Issues with old calendar items after migration from SBS2008R1 to Windows 2012R2+Exchange 2013

    Hello,
    After migrating a customer from Windows Small Business Server 2008 R1 to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (DC) and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 & Exchange 2013 there are a few issue regarding
    the GAL and old migrated calender items that we are unable to resolve:
    Old calender items which were Exported to PST when the Server 2008 R1 environment was still live were imported to the new mailbox of the user, located on the Exchange 2013 mail database. This
    seemed to be working just fine.
    The problems arise when a user tries to edit or re-send an old calender item. There actually are 2 problems:
    1. When resending an old calender item, OLD GAL entries are used (even when re-entering the contact details) and the emails are send to nobody and you get the mail back from postmaster
    2. When updating an old calender item you get an error that you do not have permissions, probably because you are NOT the 'old' Exchange user.
    Thanks in advance!

    Did you use Exmerge or similar to export?
    You may have an issue like that explained here.

  • Encrypted Profile Migration from XP to Windows 7 (Windows & Program Files Folder not Available)

    I'm trying to migrate a few encrypted profiles from Windows XP to Windows 7
    I have a disk without "Windows" and "Program Files" Folder with the userprofiles without a backup of recovery agent and related certificates.
    By USMT or in another way it is possible a deployment and recovery (also partial) of these userprofiles folders? These data can be accessible in some way or there are lost forevar?
    During USMT deployment by scanstate/loadstate cmdline tools: I used to be specify a KeyString
    after the switch command "/encrypt /efs:". I can blank "/efs:" argument during USMT Deployment?
    Thank you.

    Sadly, without a backup of encrypted userprofiles, related data are unusable after scanstate phase.
    Anyway, what
