Migrating from HTML DB 1.6 to Application Express 3.1.2

Good morning,
After recently discovering APEX and spending some time with the Oracle provided instance, the shop I work with have decided to proceed and give it a shot with our Oracle instance.
We're running 10g and our DBA setup HTMLDB from the companion CD for me. It's up and running just fine but after playing with APEX 3.1.2, going back to HTMLDB 1.6 has me noticing a lot of things that I miss just from the short time I spent with APEX.
How much is involved in the process of upgrading from HTMLDB to APEX and are there any documents aside from the APEX Install Guides that provide the steps or is it pretty straight forward? Our DBA is extremely busy and I don't want to add too much of a burden but before me and a few other developers start migrating some old Forms 6i applications, I would prefer to be up to date with the latest and greatest.
Thanks!

Hello,
>> Good morning,
Well, that’s depend on your location in the world. For some of us it’s the end of the day :)
>> How much is involved in the process of upgrading from HTMLDB to APEX
All you need to do is to download the APEX 3.1.2 full version distribution file, and run the installation script. The upgrade process will done automatically, by the installation script.
>> are there any documents aside from the APEX Install Guides that provide the steps or is it pretty straight forward
It’s very straightforward, especially in your case, where as I understand the history is very small. I find the APEX installation documentation to be very good and very clear. All you have to do is carefully follow the pre-installations and post-installation tasks (there are some important configuration changes you’ll need to make between 1.6 and 3.1.2), and you (and your DBA) will be just fine.

Arie.

  • Migration from PC to Mac without losing application data (savegames etc.)

    Hello everyone,
I am migrating from from my old Windows PC onto a MacBook Pro, and I'm having difficulties with iTunes and my iOS devices (iPhone 4, iPad 1). Maybe someone here can help me out, I'd be ever so grateful.
I set up iTunes on my MBP yesterday and logged in to my account. I replaced the empty iTunes Media folder with my old one (which contains all my music, videos and applications) via an external hard drive.
First problem: it wouldn't import these files into my new library automatically. Just showed me an empty library I think I imported the entire iTunes Media folder manually yesterday via "Add to folder". The status right now (after some experimentation) is old iTunes Media folder copied, but nothing imported (that is, I have an empty library).
When I connected my iPhone and tried to synch, I first had to authorize the MacBook for the iPhone. So far, so good. However when I tried to synch iTunes warned me that if I synch, all data on the iPhone will be removed and replaced by the data from my new local library (which is, of couse a copy of my old library, but doesn't store application data like savegames).
I tried to do it via "transfer purchased items from iPhone", which took forever, but yielded the same result: a warning that all data on the iPhone would be erased.
So the question is: How do I connect my iPhone and iPad to iTunes on my new Mac without losing application data like settings and savegames? And why is this so complicated and intransparent? I should be able to just copy my media, say "authorize this Computer, then add iPhone to the registered devices" and then proceed like nothing ever changed.
I searched the net until three in the morning yesterday, but couldn't find anything that sounded safe enough to give it a try.
Thanks in advance and best Regards,
    Nate
PS: I do have the backup-folders from my old PC on a USB stick - are those going to help?

I was fighting this battle the past few days myself; but actually it is REALLY easy now. See here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/146958/2010/03/moveitunes_windowsmac.html
Then, once iTunes was on the Mac, I did this:
    1. On the Mac rename ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl as ...\iTunes\iTunes Library
    2. On the Mac delete ...\iTunes\iTunes Library Genius.itdb (Apparently the PC & Mac versions are not compatible - iTunes will just rebuild it later)
    3. Launch iTunes and immediately press & hold down the Option key until a dialog opens asking you to Choose a library. Navigate to the folder/drive you've copied from the PC and open ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.
(thanks to turingtest2 for the above steps)
That was it. Did it yesterday evening. All playlists, libraries, everything copied fine. No problems; no broken links. Perfect.

  • How to migrate from exchange 2007 to 2013 step by step tutorials please

    Hi
I am running Windows Server 2008 standard, with exchange 2007 SP2 on it.
We have 800 mailbox in total
    Our domain controllers are
Win2012 R2 and I would like to upgrade to Exchange 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2.
I am running a VM, on VMware environment, so my Windows 2012 R2 is a VM.
Is there a website or document that explains in detail, step by step how to upgrade from 2007 to 2013.
I currently only have 1 exchange server 2007, with all the roles on the one server.  I would like to keep that same as
    well with exchange 2013.
    Thanks

Exchange server deployment assistant is always a good service provider to achieve this task as it simply ask few questions about your current environment and proceed further accordingly.
You can refer to this blog explained by technet team that will assist you further to gather more information in depth : http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx
Moreover, to avoid the interruptions and proceed a hassle-free migration from exchange 2007 to 2013, this application (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) could also be a good approach to accomplish
migration task in more secure way.

  • Migration from 3.5.1 to 9.3.0

    Hi,
I am also trying to migrate from 3.5.1 to 9.30 and getting an error unsuceesful log on.
I have instralled 3.5.1 on a different machine Windows server 2003 and Oracle 9i.
I ahve installed 9.3.0 on other machine and Oracle 10G.
While creating the application on 3.5.1 it has taken the user ge_adm ( which is also my windows NT login).
Now when i am trying to create user on 3.5.1, it comes with error invalid user name. Its not taking admin as user id also.
Now I am trying these steps for migration:
    1. Copy the HspJSHome.properties file that you backed up before installing Planning 9.3.0.1
to the same folder that contains the new PlanningSystemDB.properties file. The location is
based on the application server being used.
    2.Run the PropFileMig utility (PropFileMig.cmd) located in <drive letter>:
    \Hyperion\Planning\Utils
Launch the Hyperion Configuration Utility. Under Planning, perform the Edit Datasource
task for each application you want to upgrade.
    4. Restart the Planning application server and log on to Planning using this URL: http://
    <hostname>:8300/HyperionPlanning/LogOn.jsp.
these 4 steps ran succesfully. However I have started facing problem from 5th step onwards.
Select the application you want to migrate from the drop-down list of applications. A
message is displayed that the application version needs to be migrated.
    6. Enter your username and password again and select the application. Then click Migrate
(note that the LogOn button changed to Migrate). The application is migrated to the 9.3.0.1
release and you are logged on.
No migration button is there and I am not able to login in to the migrated application.
Please let me know what should I do?
    Need urgent help.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Pankaj Mehta.

    Hi,
The steps I usually take are (I am basing this on version 9.3.1 though but I dont think it differs that much) :-
Create a fresh planning application on version 9.3.0 make sure the admin is the same name as your old 3.5.1 planning app
Go into the oracle tables for the planning app and look at table HSP_USERS, store the SID value against user 50001
Go into the oracle planning system tables and HSPSYS_APPLICATION, clear out the version field for the application in question.
    Stop Planning
Drop your 9.3.0 Planning App schema and Copy your old 3.5.1 planning oracle schema into the same locatiion
Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
    Start planning
Go to planning web and you should see your application when you try and log in it should take you to a migrate screen.
    Hope this is a start.
    Cheers

  • Application Express node missing

    Hello experts,
I have installed SQL Developer v. 1.5.5 Build MAIN-5969, connected to my application owner, but I can't find the Application Express node.
    Any tip?

    Hi Tks,
Sorry for the late reply, this may not be of use anymore but someone else may get something from it.
Is your install of Application Express 3.0.1 or higher?
Oracle XE ships with Application Express 2.1.0.00.39. (You can upgrade Application Express to the latest version if you want).
    Here are some details
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/sql_dev_integration.html
If you do have Application Express 3.0.1 or higher, then please post back and we can dig further.
    Thanks,

  • Application Express 2.0 vs 3.0

    Dear All,
Last year I bought Oracle HTML DB Handbook which cover Application Express upto 2.0. However I never got round to looking at it with work commitments etc. I've now got a bit of free time, but Apex is on v3 now.
My question is are the differenrences between 2.0 and 3.0 so great that working my way through this book would cause more confusion than its worth? Can I still use this book as a reference atleast?
    Any comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks

The book is very applicable to 3.0. You may want to read the "What's New" section of 3.0 User's Guide (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32472_01/doc/appdev.300/b32471.pdf) to give you and idea what is different/new.
The Developer's Guide (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32472_01/doc/appdev.300/b32470.pdf) is a good step-by-step sample that you can work through.
I don't use the book as a reference. I usually go to this forum first, the ApEx User's Guide second, and good old Google (hits the ApEx blogs) third.

  • Application Express 2.2.0.00.32

I currently have Application Express 2.2.0.00.32 and plan to upgrade it to version 3.0. In the installation guide it does not list this version under the "Upgrading from a Previous Version of Oracle Application Express" section. Can I upgrade Application Express 2.2.0.00.32 directly to version 3.0?
    Thanks.

Andy - looks like a doc bug, that version should be listed.

  • Deploying ear application - migrating from OC4j to Weblogic

I am trying to migrate application from OC4J to weblogic server. Apart from usual differences in descriptors, structure of EAR etc. I came across unusual error:
"both the remote home and remote component interface must be specified. Currently, only one of them is specified"
It is about deploying session bean. Usual EJB3 stateless session bean with local and remote interface, deployed without any problem on OC4J and JBoss. Of course, I know home interfaces are something to do with EJB 2.1, but this is EJB3 application and, I guess, Weblogic has full support for it. Does it? :)
Anyway, is there workaround? Or am I missing something? I don't have to tell you what problems we will be facing if I have to restructure whole application with dozens and hundreds of session beans.
    Thanks a lot!

OK. I just want to make sure that there are no problems with the deployment descriptors.
To pin point the problem do the following in JDeveloper:
    1. Create a simple EJB 3.0 session bean
    2. On that session bean create a Sample Java Client.
    3. Run the Session Bean
    4. Run the Client
    5. If both are running fine, compare the deployment descriptors from the sample and your real application.

If you want to use Time Machine to recover the contents of one of its a backups to a new drive, follow the instructions in Mac OS X 10.6: Recovering your entire system. Note that you must select the "Restore System From Backup" option from the Utilities menu of the Installer disc to do this.
Also note that if you are transferring files to a hard drive to be used with a different computer, you should use Migration Assistant instead. This intentionally will not copy everything because some settings, applications, etc. are not compatible computer-to-computer. Migration Assistant will copy everything that is.

  • Migrating from Seagate Info 7.5 to CR Server XI release 2 - HTML problem

We are currently trying to migrate from using Seagate Info 7.5 to using Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2, for our reports generation / scheduling.
We currently have a number of reports which are generated as HTML and saved to a network shared folder. These reports are viewed by internal users and are updated every 15 minutes. This works well at the moment as the users have a browser shortcut to the report page and hit refresh every now and then to see updated content.
However, in CR Server XI R2, there is no option to export HTML. So what would be the recommended workaround in this situation?
    Thanks in advance.

I wasn't aware that CR Server doesn't include OpenDocument, are you certain?
I think CR Server should have Crystal Reports URL Reporting though, called viewrpt.cwr. You can achieve pretty much the same with this, documentation is in our developer library:
    http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm
Developer Library home > BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK > .NET developer guide and API reference > Viewing Reports and Documents using URLs > URL Reporting for Crystal Reports.
