Migrating From IMAP to Exchange 2013

Hi
I'm looking to migrate from a hosted imap email provider to racked exchange server 2013
we have about users, but also some of the services we provide generate and send mail
We are looking to just migrate the users for now, but at the risk of sounding stupid, I don't think this is possible due to the domain and the mx records, as in we don't want to change the email address' and we would be able to have both hosted and in house,
using the same domain
Any help and advice is very much appreciated

Do you have access to hosted environment to move the mailboxes?
What is the number of users you are talking about?
To move the mailbox you would require some third party tool.
Cheers,

  • Migration from IMAP to Exchange online

    Got a little pickle going on here:We've purchased Exchange online as we were rather dissatisfied with our email provider. In migrating over, I've updated our MX records, but when Exchange tries to "find" them, the address is incorrect (mydomain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com.mydomain.com).Exchange is telling me it should be mydomain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com and that I should change that before it will work. The same issue is coming up for all my records as Exchange sees them (with the extra .mydomain.com added at the end.Our domain is registered through network solutions, but our hosting is done through this other company, and they are also hosting our website. I wanted to stick with them for the web hosting because there have been few to no issues on that side.Has anyone seen this before?

  • Migrating from 2010 (single) to 2013 HA

    Hello All;
    I'm doing my long research into my new project and found a lot of helpful links but thought i'd reach out to the forum and see if anyone has any inside links, steps, details I can review.
    We currently are running
    Exchange 2010 SP3 (All roles on single server)
    Windows Server 2008R2 Enterprise
    Virtual Machine (VMware 5.5 ESXi)
    I'm planning on migrating to
    Exchange 2013 (two instances)
    High Availability
    Windows Server 2012 R2 Enterprise
    So migrating from 1 single exchange 2010 server to multiple Exchange 2013 mailbox servers.  The goal is if 1 physical goes down for maintenance of anything else that can happen in this crazy world, the other separate server would still pass mail through
    the environment which I believe is separating the DAGs.
    I'm sure I've missed a lot here. Please Help because afterwards I have to upgrade from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013.

    thank you all for the helpful info & awesome links for reading.
    but i'm still a little lost in the HA capability of exchange 2013. We have two physical servers (built Raid 5 in the array for each - both having 2 arrays.)  How do we implement HA in this configuration if 1 server goes down ? Would that be separate
    DAGs with a 3rd front end ?
    example:
    Current
    Server 1
    Exchange 2010
    4 Databases
    --- Migrate/Upgrade to
    Future
    Server 2                              Server3
    Exchange 2013                     Exchange 2013
    4 Databases  <------------>   4 Databases
    so if Server 2 disappeared, Server 3 could keep running transporting all mail. I'm assuming i'm missing the front end part of exchange 2013 that would pass the mail along to server 2 and server 3.
    I apoligize if this is noobish question; I've never implemented anything HA for exchange. We've always run all roles on a single instance.

  • Migrating public folders to exchange 2013 hebrew issue

    I am migrating public folders to exchange 2013. half of them a named in hebrew.
    The migration fails, the error is character  related.
    Is it possible at all to migrate hebrew named public folders?

    Hi,
    Did you got the error message mentioned in the following thread?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/8b383a46-b710-4fc0-aa0b-e52f288cf93d/e2010-to-e2013-public-folders-migration-failed?forum=exchangesvrdeploy
    If so, please check if they are mail-enabled public folders. If they are mail-enabled public folders, please make sure there are no invalid characters in alias.
    Based on the description, you couldn't migrate public folders named in Hebrew, other public folders could be moved successfully. If I misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
    If the issue persists, I'm afraid you need to rename these public folders in English.
    Best regards,

  • Migrating from Shared/Hosted Exchange 2010 to Onsite Exchange 2013

    Hi All,
    Hoping for some advice regarding a migration project I'm due to run with. A client has their current email data with a 3rd party hosted Exchange platform, this is a completely separate platform from their onsite AD infrastructure.
    Platform wise it is built on Exchange 2010 that only really allows OWA/Outlook Anywhere/ActiveSync access. We'd like to migrate this platform to a more dedicated onsite Exchange 2013 platform.
    Any software tools or advice appreciated, we're hoping to avoid exporting all the content to PST and manually importing but if this is the only way then fair enough. If there are utilities that may allow mailbox backfilling to suck the data out and in to
    the new mailboxes in 2013 that would be awesome.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to migrate mailboxes from the other forest to your forest.
    I recommend you refer to the following article to achieve migration:

    Hope this helps!

  • GSSAPI with IMAP on Exchange 2013 SP1

    We are setting up Exchange 2013 SP1 in our Exchange 2010 test environment to verify our upcoming migration. I have found out that for some reason I can't get the IMAP service in Exchange 2013 to work with Kerberos (GSSAPI) authentication with Thunderbird
    as a client. It does work fine in Exchange 2010 SP3 though.
    Exchange 2010 SP3 response in Thunderbird:
    * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 AUTH=NTLM AUTH=GSSAPI AUTH=PLAIN UIDPLUS CHILDREN IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+
    Exchange 2013 SP1 response in Thunderbird:
     * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 AUTH=PLAIN UIDPLUS CHILDREN IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+
    AUTH=GSSAPI is missing and therefore I can't blame Thunderbird from complaining about this. If I compare the output from Get-ImapSettings I can't find anything that would indicate why I shouldn't work. EnableGSSAPIAndNTLMAuth is $true on both server
    and LoginType is SecureLogin.
    On
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj619283(v=exchg.150).aspx I found out that NTLM is not supported on Exchange 2013 for POP3 and IMAP4 but Kerberos (GSSAPI) and Plain Text Authentication with SSL still is.
    Has anyone got IMAP to work with Kerberos authentication on Exchange 2013 SP1?

    Hello,
    According to your description, we are unable to see the AUTH=GSSAPI in Exchange 2013.
    My environment is Exchange 2013 CU1. I get the same result as yours. Looks Like Exchange 2013 IMAP does not support GSSAPI as authentication mechanism.

  • Migration from OL 2010 to 2013

    Does anyone have an instruction on how to migrate email accounts (several POP, & IMAP accounts) from one computer running Window 7 and Outlook 2010 to a new computer with Windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013?
    /PS. Please note that it's not just the .pst files that needs to be moved...

    In order to migrate the PST files you’ll need to use a custom XML override. Here is a sample that will gather all PST files from all fixed drives:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <migration urlid="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/pst">
    <component type="Documents" context="UserAndSystem">
    <displayName>All PST migrated from all fixed drives, regardless of location</displayName>
    <role role="Data">
    <rules>
    <include>
    <objectSet>
    <script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDrivePatterns ("* [*.pst]", "Fixed")</script>
    </objectSet>
    </include>
    </rules>
    </role>
    </component>
    </migration>
    Paste that into Notepad and save as PST.XML into your USMT folder. When you add that to your scanstate and loadstate command-lines with /i:pst.xml then
    all fixed drive PST files will be migrated.
    For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet blog:
    USMT, OST, and PST
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2010/02/11/usmt-ost-and-pst.aspx
    You may also move the .pst files without USMT by following the steps the following Microsoft KB article provided:

  • POP/IMAP issue Exchange 2013

    Hi,
    I have started the migration of Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. Exchange 2010 is single server with all roles and Exchange 2013 with 1 CAS and 1 Mailbox. Initially plan was to verify the Windows XP users can connect with Exchange 2013 but there was a lot
    of issues and stop XP machines migration. Windows 7 machines are working perfectly without any issue.
    Now decided to configure POP/IMAP on XP machines. The test of incoming POP/IMAP is fine and receiving emails from internal to external domains but the SMTP is giving error
    Send test e-mail: Your server does not support the connection encryption type specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact the administrator of the mail server or Internet service provider for further assistance.
    Can some guide what I am missing during the configuration.

  • How do you delete specific message from users in Exchange 2013 DAG database?

    Our network has been inundated with spam from INTUIT.COM with the SUBJECT: PAYMENT OVERDUE and contains a link to download a form from a Dropbox. Obviously, very suspicious and clearly spam. We're using Postini as our Edge Transport/ Spam filter but messages
    are still getting in. I've enable anti-spam on all my mailbox servers, set the SCL values but that hasn't worked.
    I understand that Exchange Edge Transport role has the more aggressive spam fighting features but Microsoft also recommends an online spam filter.
    Needless to say, we've taken steps to quarantine those messages based on subject and sender in Postini but now would like to delete those messages from the users in went to. My users are two different DAG mailbox databases. I found this article http://www.techieshelp.com/delete-mail-from-multiple-mailboxes/ but
    the command didn't work. I'm thinking its because I have DAG and a couple of databases. I even tried "get-mailbox -database "databasename" | search-mailbox -searchquery subject: "Payment Overdue"" and that didn't work.
    I'm running Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG across two sites comprised of four 2013 SP1 mailbox servers.

    Check this out

    Alternatively if you are open the 3rd party solutions check out Lucid8's DigiScope
    http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp
    which would allow you to see the search results and then delete OR if desired you can set the On FIND action to Export to PST and then Delete so that you can preserve and then remove messages on the fly as the search system finds

    This message is for the very few out there who will be migrating from FirstClass server to Exchange.
    I created a VB Script that will convert exported messages from FirstClass into a comma delimited file (CSV) that can be imported into Exchange.
    FirstClass is not a full featured IMAP server, and thus you cannot migrate Sent emails or emails in folders using the Transporter Suite.

  • Do we need to resolve all issues with intermediate 2010 migration before going to Exchange 2013?

    We just migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 as an intermediate step to going to Exchange 2013.  Everything is working through OWA, so all the data has been transferred.  We have users that can access Outlook 2010 through a Citrix server,
    and through their local workstations.  Outlook 2010 is working fine through Citrix as well, but on all users if they access Outlook 2010 on their laptop they get an error when trying to do Out of Office messages, and they can't see free/busy time for
    other users when adding them to meeting invites.
    I already have a post about the issues, but since we are moving to 2013, could the migration fix these issues, or do we need to resolve them first?  The data is clearly there, so I don't think that's the problem.
    Thanks!
